(Main TV is a 65" LG OLED in the family room, so didn't expect much in comparison with the Roku. Bought this for the bedroom so size, sound and angle viewing requirements were greatly decreased. Very happy to say the picture is much more than satisfactory at this price point including Dolby Vision and 4K selections. Sound for the bedroom is fine, no need for a soundbar. Only complaint is I wish the remote was illuminated - but seriously-for the price... nothing to complain about. 2nd night had a problem with a Netflix hard freeze requiring a reboot that took several minutes. Has not happened since. Nice interface, easy to navigate and change inputs, outstanding picture detail and color right out of the box, which was a surprise (bear in mind we are right in front of it so angle viewing is a non issue). Fast remote response. Only question now is longevity and reliability but up to this point, exceptionally happy.

A steal for a TV that supports Dolby Vision

This TCL 5-series television is an absolute steal for a medium-large-ish sized TV that has built in Dolby Vision support. It has good picture quality out of the box, but can be fine tuned to be better if you download the Roku app for the phone or tablet. It is important to note that calibration can only be done on the app and not on the TV itself, which is somewhat odd.
The build quality of the TV, which is mostly plastic, is ok and is expected of what you would get at this price point. There are no fancy metal accents, and the supplied stand for the TV are these 2 leg things that you have to screw on. They are slightly cheap looking, but do the job of keeping the TV upright and steady just fine. The TV mount in the back is of a standardized size if you wanted to mount it to a TV bracket.
The Roku interface is the main interface of this TV, and is simple and fairly easy to get around. However, it takes some tinkering with the settings to get it to do things like remember what input you want the TV to start up with or do away with the led status light if you don't like it to be always on.
For me, this TV works wonderfully with an Apple TV, a Chromecast Ultra, a PS4, and a XBOX One X. The game consoles can take advantage of the HDR support this TCL TV offers to make the games look really, really nice.
Overall, I am pleased with this TV considering the price point. Too bad TCL didn't continue the 43" size in the updated 5-series. It is really an ideal size for bedrooms.

Very nice TV. Good picture, good price, easy set up. Really like having the built in Roku, very easy to use and convenient.
My one complaint is the remote. It is a small Roku remote that has the mute button on the right side just above the volume. Every time I pick it up and use any function I hit the mute button. It's in a very bad location. Annoying!

Perfect Bedroom or Man Cave TV

I purchased the 55 inch version of this TV, liking it enough to come back and purchase the 43 inch version for my man cave.
Now about the TV. Okay, it's not a high-end Samsung but this TCL 43 inch TV shines from unpacking it to getting it setup and watching it. I was able to unpack it alone, put the feet on it alone, then move it to its final home, again alone. All along the way I exercised reasonable care and had no trouble whatsoever.
Logging in to my Roku account, ( which is free so never pay for it ), began software updates which was done quickly. Then my services, (YouTubeTV, Prime Video, Netflix, Apple TV and some free apps) were added to the home screen from my account. Start to finish after delivery was about 30 minutes.
The picture on the TV using default settings is amazing to my old, tired eyes. Upscaled content also looks amazing on this TV. I do watch lots of college football & basketball. Going thru settings and using the Picture Mode "Sport", I've had no lag and an excellent viewing experience.
For comparison to the older model TCL this TV replaced I chose to watch a very familiar movie, "Jersey Boys", on Netflix to start. I was delighted with the difference. And the sound of all the music in the movie was decent as well as the outstanding picture. The picture of this TV actually compares nicely to some higher end Samsungs I've seen in friends' homes, at about half the price.
One recurring complaint I see is the remote. The remote is designed for the Roku TV platform and functions well with it. The volume and mute buttons being on the side isn't as much an inconvenience to me as it seems to be to other reviewers I've seen considering it keeps the size of the remote smaller. There is also an app available for both Android and iOS that functions as a remote and can be voice controlled.
Last but not least, if you're on the fence, take the plunge. Don't over expect and this TV will very likely satisfy you as well.

I own last years model and it comes with the better RF remote. Bought this years version for another room and it only comes with A IR remote (requires line of sight to function). Luckily you can buy the voice remote for $20 that works way better. Too bad it’s not included. TV is fantastic, has all the apps you could ask for and supports the three 4K standards (HDR, Dolby Vision, and HLG). Think it is the most feature packed 43” tv on the market and Black Friday price was excellent. Only 4 stars due to remote .

I own two TLC Roku TVs and like both. I use an antenna and Sling TV as my main video sources and both look great. The remote is the only frustration, you need to point directly to the bottom center of tv within a small area to get it to work. Plus there is no last channel button available, I guess they think everyone has cable. Great budget friendly TV.

I bought this TV because my 32 inch Samsung was too small for my bedroom. I wanted a TV that was 4K, HDR, and Roku-enabled. This TCL model fit the bill nicely. It looks high quality and is incredibly intuitive to use. I love Dolby Vision for movies, and my Switch games look amazing upscaled. I’m excited to see what the PS5 can do on this set once I eventually buy one. I would highly recommend really any TCL TV.

I love everything about this tv except for the Bluetooth connection. When I try the private listening with my headset it cuts out frequently to a point where it makes it impossible to follow the audio, no matter what I try to connect to the tv and what device I use (phone, tablet or straight to the tv). That being said, the regular audio, visuals and longevity are incredible!

This TV does provide a good picture and for the price is a good buy. There are a few negatives though. Movement does have a bit of motion blur, i.e., freckles on faces do not stay constant when the face moves, if using with cable or any other major provider, you will not be able to program the remote properly, and the TV starts on a screen that provides multiple selections of apps and your cable provider.
This is strange as I would like to start by having the service provider on and if I choose, then open an app if desired. The remote issue means I need to multiple remote to access the guide for my service provider.
All that being said, due to the price, I would still recommend this if one can put up with these smaller issues.

Awesome tv. Bought it to replace my 4 series tcl. Works perfect. Picture is good, tv is fast and easy to use, roku system is very good, and has both hdr20 and dolby vision. Only complaint is the remote kinda sucks but that is easily fixable with the roku voice remote for 20 bucks.

Great TV with a BUT on input signals

This is a great 43" TV with a BUT! If you are a cord cutter, great. If you have a cable box that outputs a signal in 1080i, this is not a TV for you. This TV has issues that causes severe ghosting when processing a 1080i signal. Any p signal is fine. Because I still have a cable box, I returned this TV. Before that, I really enjoyed it. I think the TV punched above its class. Colors were nice, it doesn't get bright enough though so HDR wasn't the best and bright rooms aren't the move. There is no motion processing but images weren't too juddery. Roku is fine. If you are using apps and need a smaller TV (below 50") this is the one to get. If not, you might need to spring for the more expensive samsung as it is the only other good 43" TV.

This brand was hardly my first choice for a new Smart 4K TV. I was dead set on the LG 43UM7300PUA at first, and gave in to this TCL alternative only after some hard work by a persistent (and annoying) friend. The picture quality is actually quite good straight out of the box, though. My only remaining nitpick at this point is with the peculiar, almost toy-like, remote control. Access to streaming channels is great. But for local TV stations you have to scroll through every channel if using an OTA antenna. You cannot go directly to a specific one, or delete the unwanted ones that stand in the way. Over all, this is a decent choice for a budget 4K Smart TV, and it's price point alone is putting tremendous pressure on the more upscale brands like LG, Samsung and Sony.

This screen is incredible! Excellent picture quality out of the box, super fast app interface which works well with WebOS to make a really slick, fast, and appealing user interface. Massive support for all the latest and greatest tech standards for audio and video formats. Really in depth menus and options to tweak nearly every aspect of operation. Excellent colors, no ghosting, banding, perfectly black blacks. My expectations were high when I ordered this and after setting it up and experiencing my first HDR content I was completely blown away! As for gaming I actually enable some of the 'naughty' post processing features and it makes PS3/WiiU/Wii gaming feel practically modern in some regards. It's a real treat!

GREAT affordable TV for Xbox One X 4K gaming!

I went in on Black Friday to purchase this TV for 249.99 along with an Xbox One X. I was debating whether or not to purchase this one or the Samsung 43" UHD 4K which was going for 299.99. When I asked the sales rep what he recommended he said "Samsung, you will hate the TCL its very low quality".
I compared the two and found that both are extremely similar in specs. The reason that I purchased the TCL over the Samsung is that this TV offers Dolby Digital which enhances the audio and picture quality for more vibrant and accurate colors.
Differences I noticed:
-TCL 5 Series offers Dolby Digital / Samsung UHD does not.
-TCL 5 Series HDR10 / Samsung UHD HDR10+
-TCL 5 Series 8W speakers / Samsung UHD 10W speakers.
-TCL 5 Series Dual-core processor / Samsung 4K UHD processing chip.
For a $50 dollar difference I didn't mind a slightly lower sound as I have this TV in my bedroom. I am not sure if the Samsung processing chip is better that the dual-core processor in the TCL, but I haven't noticed any lag or blur when playing games or watching video content.
My 4K games from my Xbox look absolutely amazing on this TV. While I'm sure that there are far more superior TVs on the market, I am truly impressed by the detail and picture quality that this has been providing for the price I paid.
**Just note that if you do purchase this TV for use on your Xbox One X, you will need to set the HDMI mode to 2.0 in the Settings on the TV. I was wondering why my Xbox was saying my TV wasn't compatible with several features, but once I changed the HDMI mode I had full compatibility.

I own a q7p QLED Samsung but lacks Dolby vision(of course) so for what the price was one this TCL I figured I buy a smaller one and if I hated it I would give it to the kids. I take bitrate, 4k HDR, 4K blu-ray very serious. I'm not joking when I tell you the Dolby vision blows hdr10 and hdr10+ out of the water....super bright super dark and the icing on the cake is for those streaming guys which TCLs Netflix software registers Dolby vision , Dolby Atmos. If I knew this I would have bought the 75" YOU CANNOT GO WRONG ON THE TV DONT LET THE PRICE FOOL YOU!

Love this TV. Beautiful HD pic and that goes for the antenna over-the-air input, the cable input and the Roku. I set it up in just a few minutes connecting the amp and the optical audio, no hassles whatsoever. The only thing I'm a little less satisfied with is the remote and maybe the menu. It's a Roku remote, which means no numbers, which means I either have to use my phone Roku app or a different remote for the cable and on air channels unless I want to scroll forever. I'm also accustomed to a little more control via more extensive menus. My old 160 lb 720 dpi TV (free via Craig's list 15 years ago) didn't have near the definition, but there were a lot more settings you could tweak with the remote. Granted, I rarely needed to use it that much, but it always felt good to have those options. This is a smart TV with dummy proof settings you really can't, and shouldn't need to, mess with. That said, I'm still thrilled with the set and with the price. I haven't bought a TV in 25 years, but I know I paid about double what I paid for this, and it does have a gorgeous picture.

I bought this one in January 2020. I've read reviews on rtings and this has the 2nd best contrast, but has the best HDR movies, and the best HDR gaming scores. It also has a very high score for gaming and natural television watching. The Dolby Vision HDR12 is the best part, OMG, a picture so good I've never seen before. Other than best picture ever, it's also a Roku TV! It has Hulu, Netflix, PlutoTV, and many others where you can rent or own several movies and pay per month services!

TV is easy to set up. Have had no issues other than the screen going to "sleep" and when i turn it on the screen is so dark that you can see no picture. I hit the reset button and it was back to normal. Have had no problem since. I hooked the HDMI cable into the camera system on house then into HDMI port on TV. Picture is awesome for the camera view via the TV!
