So far I am satisfied with this purchase. The picture is clear, the colors are vibrant and the sound quality is decent. There is a good selection of free programming to stream with the Roku app, it's easy to add and navigate the various streaming apps so cable is necessary as long as you have internet. I'm not crazy about the remote control, it's kind of annoying having to shuffle through the channels instead of just going directly to the one you want. I'm considering upgrading to either a universal remote control or the Roku voice remote. Other than that this TV is a good value for the price.

I bought this for my 12 year old son and he has no complaints with it. He mainly games with it and there is no lag and the picture quality for Netflix is pretty darn good. I’ll check it out from time to time and yes, viewing from the side is not that good but for the price...you can’t complain. Also, the sound is not that good but you should know this when buying a tv for that price point. This might not be the best for your main television but for a secondary tv...it’s perfect.

Picked up this tv for my bedroom. For the price this TV is impressive. 4K HDR and Dolby Vision at this price you can’t beat. Picture quality is great and HDR/Dolby Vison content looks awesome as well. Is it perfect no, but for the price it’s perfect for what I needed.

So far so good. I wall mounted the TV a few days ago and everything is good so far. This 5 series was great deal at $250 before using a bunch of reward certificates. It has a true HDR processor in dolby vision and not just a compatible TV. The HDR/4K programming I've watched so far on netflix looks real good. This is my first Roku tv and I'm not a fan of the very basic remote at all. There's a lot of free programming; tv shows and movies with some of the roku apps and you don't need a login. I still need to get an indoor HD antenna and the 30 day trial of sling still needs to be activated. I'm also not a huge fan of the menus; especially the settings. Maybe I'm used to the settings on my high end Samsung KS8000 from a few years ago. They seem a little less usable. The movie picture mode is not great at all. It makes the picture more yellowish along with dimming it. The other picture modes are fine. You can also manually adjust the picture settings. There are separate contract (dynamic and micro) settings outside the normal one. Not sure what the micro is for in comparison to my KS8000. The specs say it has a 178 deg viewing angle. It does but you can see the picture degrade when you view it off to the side. I would say its still decent to about 120 deg. The sound modes are almost the same; very hard to tell the difference. Probably need a receiver or sound bar to get a better experience. In comparison to my 2017 samsung 6 series in my bedroom (TCL is in second family room) which is only HDR compatible, this TV might be better and was about the same price before the sale. Its definitely worthwhile; especially if on a budget.

I bought this TV to replace a 7 year old Vizio tv which I loved. Only owned the TV and feel compelled to review it. First thing I noticed, the TCL in the box with all the packaging was way lighter then my Vizio alone. 2nd was that it is almost bezel less, and extremely thin. Went through the whole setup of the TV and Roku and Roku is a great compliment to such a nice tv. 3rd You can control your tv through the Roku app on your apple or android phone. And even have private listening of what your watching through your headphones on your phone (NOT HDMI though, only for the apps, our other inputs). 4th XBOX One X compatible! Note make sure you plug your Xbox into hdmi 1, go to settings, name it your Xbox, and select hdmi 2.0. If you can’t figure it out, ask google does TCL 5series 4K tv work with Xbox one x, and you’ll find a post like I did that will walk you through it. I suggest after your done go to settings on your tv, and fully restart the tv (through settings). I didn’t and the picture looked washed out at first. After everything was vibrant! Overall if your on a budget and want a great tv, especially for the Xbox One X this TV should be a consideration!

I was looking for a TV that had good HDR and response time on a TV that was as good as it gets for gaming. On a budget, I found this after doing some research and definitely Better then I expected. The picture is great and gaming is awesome! Recommended... For sure. Especially for that price and a built in Roku that works great as well. No problems so far.

This TV does a lot for the cable cutter. First, the picture quality is fantastic. We bought this size for our office and my one regret is that I didn’t go bigger to use as a home theater TV. The Roku features are great and easy peazy to use when subscribing to a streaming service. We use the 2 top services and OTA broadcasts together in that room. You can set the TV to start on any input or OTA Tv. Nice feature. The remotes CEC allows me to use it for the attached Firestick as well without switching back and forth. How it knows I switched to the Firestick is technical marvel. My main reason for the purchase was that we needed a Roku because the Firestick does not have the Spectrum app. A service, and bill, we are soon to rid our selves of. And when you figure in the cost of a stand alone Roku this TV with its 4K, HDR is a no brainer decision. I came to find out that this TV can record live over the air broadcast for up to 90 minutes of rewinding and playback capabilities. All you need is a 16GB thumb drive. How awesome! Haven’t used the 4K yet to watch a full show, but I have tested it. Nice!

My first HDR TV with ROKU built in. It works as advertised and has a great picture. The private streaming channel that it was bought to view was a great improvement over the older monitor that was being used. Not the same specs and features of the more expensive models, but I can't tell the difference on intended content.

You know, if you're sitting on the fence on whether to buy this TV or not, just buy it. I was waiting to buy a Sony, which would have cost over twice as much, and I decided I could wait no more. The picture quality on this TV is awesome. True, it's not a Sony or LG OLED display, but who cares? I'm glad I purchased this TV, and you will like it just as much as I have. The only thing negative is, like others, I'm not a big fan of the remote control. But, you get used to it. Games on the Xbox One X and Playstation 4 Pro look awesome, as does my PC, as this is my main computer display. Graphics and text are nice and crisp. Highly recommended.

The TCL 43" with built-in Roku is a perfect smart tv for the bedroom. We have streaming tv (PS Vue) and being able to stream through the internal system makes everything easier. The picture quality is amazing and TCL does a great job at a much lower price than comparable tvs. Definitely worth the purchase!

This tv was really easy to set up. I bought it for my bedroom. Size just right for dresser. Love that it’s a smart tv with Roku. So many free movies and shows to watch but also Netflix, Hulu, and the like are available by subscription. I recommend this tv. It’s inexpensive but good picture.

    Great TV under 50"

Our bedroom TV simply wouldn't die. It was a 10+ year old LCD from Westinghouse. We have limited space above our dresser in our bedroom and I did not want to 1) move the wall mount or 2) replace the wall mount with one that required 2 wall studs. This TV fit the bill nicely and replaced a 32" TV. We wanted a TV with smart TV functions along with a decent picture. The problem we ran into is that most TVs under 50" do not offer the greatest picture. We chose this based on several reviews and a bit of research for what we wanted. Similar to our living room scenario we wanted a TV that would handle dim and well lit rooms. We do not game on this TV and watch primarily TV shows and movies, rarely do we watch sports on this TV. The only complaints that I do have are with regards to the TV needing to be soft reset every 4-6 weeks and the audio has goofed up on us once which was corrected by power cycling the TV. The integrated control with Alexa is convenient. Overall we're satisfied with the purchase and would recommend. We do not have much experience with multiple inputs. We have a HTPC connected via HDMI and a basic broadcast antenna connected.

Great monitor for multitasking and great gaming TV

I initially was going to go with the 4 series TV as a monitor. Not a gaming monitor, but to use basically to get 4 22" or so 1080p screens in one unit for my PC. A 4k TV is the cheapest way to do it. Monitors are insanely priced. Also you really have to have a crazy high end gaming rig to drive 4k gaming. I would suggest a 1440p 32" monitor with 144hz for a gaming monitor. For console gaming or a PC monitor for multitasking or for streaming, this TV is a beast! Keep in mind I bought this for $200 on a really good sale. If you can find a cheap 4 series and you want multitasking monitor, I'd suggest that. I planned on buying at $200 before the 5 series sale. Both are great bang for the buck. On a side note, if you are looking for an amazing bang for the buck 55" or 65" HDR/Dolby Vision TV, spring for the 6 series TCL. They have been coming down and I don't regret buying the 65" almost a year ago for $300 more than sale price is now.

Wirecutter had recommended this TV so I had no qualms about ordering it. Easy to set up (even for someone who's never owned a "smart" TV before). Just two minor quibbles. One is that the little legs are spaced too far apart for it to sit on the narrow pedestal our older TV had used. This was easily remedied by placing a black plastic-veneered shelf from IKEA atop the pedestal and underneath the TV. The other quibble is that I'm always hitting the volume control or mute buttons on the side of the remote when I pick it up. I'll just have to get out of that habit. It has plenty of inputs, even an old-school composite input for older video playback equipment if needed. Overall, excellent picture quality and value for money if you ask me.

This is my third Samsung tv (purchased this one for bedroom) and I am pleased for the money. HDR could have a wider range of color. That being said the darks and uniformity are much better than the TCL I just returned. The tcl’s roku and Dolby vision were great and a huge selling point, but sports were hard to watch and there was noticable vertical banding while watching cable. At the end of the day the Samsung has little to no dirty screen effect, especially when comparing sports to the tcl. If you like a truer darker image, better uniformity, have cable, and love to watch sports, choose the Samsung. If you stream all your content through apps, the TCL may be the better option as the hdr/Dolby vision was more vibrant and the roku was more user friendly. Then again tcl is all Chinese parts (how long will it last?) and doesn’t have the reputation that Samsung has.

I have other more expensive 4K TVs that are better but this one is really, really good for the price and I really the ROKU user interface. I originally bought this 43 in tv to replace an older 43" HDTV. After I got it home I realized, that due to the narrow bezel I could use a 50 inch model. I took this 43 in back and got the 50 in size of the same TV. The screen is a bit darker than my high end Samsungs but the picture is still more than adequate and I like it. Its very simple to adjust the picture also.

For a entry level 4K set it is bright colorful, with great features and a simple setup. I bought it primarily for gaming and I was very impressed by just how bright the colors popped compared to my older lg 4K set. My old set was extremely dull in contrast and the hdr was not even noticeable (also I found out later lg created some trick software to emulate a 4K picture when it was closer to 3k realistically so the jump was noticeable.) if I can complain about anything it would be two points, a. The saturation is bit strong although easily adjusted. B. The Dolby vision is of a older version and is not compatible with Xbox one x.

      Hi Maximus,

We're so thrilled that you are enjoying your TCL Roku TV. In regards to Dolby Vision and the Xbox, in October, Microsoft released an update enabling Dolby Vision support on Xbox One X and Xbox One S. Microsoft and Dolby developed a new implementation of Dolby Vision tailored to game consoles. At this time, a number of TVs with Dolby Vision, including TCL Roku TVs with Dolby Vision, are not compatible with this new Dolby Vision implementation. As of this date, there are no games or other content available in Dolby Vision through this game console. TCL continues to work closely with our partners to study this new implementation and will share more information as it becomes available. Since Netflix is already available in Dolby Vision directly from TCL Roku TVs, at this time, TCL recommends enjoying Netflix Dolby Vision content directly through the TCL Roku TV smart interface. Happy viewing!

      Thank you,

I bought the TCL - 43" Class - LED - 5 Series - 2160p - Smart - 4K UHD TV with HDR Roku TV and I am very happy with it so far!! It is very easy to get set up right out of the box, I was on our home network and streaming shows within minuets. Really like the user interface, simple and easy to navigate. You can rename the inputs so that when you are on the home screen you know which is the cable, dvd player, satellite, or any other device that you may set up, no more guessing cuz you named them!! Picture is great and the downloadable app is a must for your phone. ROKU is setting the bar high with all of their products. A great buy!
