I love my new TCL 5 series! Great picture good sound for a small room! They don't tell you tho how the bottom of the TV is thicker then the top of it. So if you want to walk mount it a regular wall mount won't do cause you can't tilt it. But over all the TV is worth the buy! Pretty easy to figure out how to use it!

    Great picture, laggy interface

I'll start with the good; this TV has a fantastic picture for the price, punching up there with the likes of the Sony X90J for half the price. There is a huge step up in brightness from last year's S535, which was one of the main complaints. This TV is now an easy buy over the Hisense U6G. SDR and HDR content look great. The bad: Google TV is laggy and unstable. My old S405 TCL with Roku runs circles around this interface. I've had multiple apps freeze up or crash back to the home screen, and the interface is just slow in general. I am on the latest software, so hopefully some updates are coming soon. I'll probably end up hooking up a Roku Ultra to this soon if it does improve. Not the end of the world (as I prefer Roku anyways), but kind of disappointing. Also, you can not fully disable motion smoothing so you'll always get some very minor Soap Opera Effect, even with all settings "disabled". I'm not sure if this applies when an external blu-ray player is hooked up. I wish I could rate this a 3.5, as 3.0 feels too low. I'll give it a 4 if TCL fixes the buggy interface.

Advice: Turn off 'fast bootup'. With this turned on, you suffer from Androids fabulous degradation over time. But with it turned off, the unit fully shuts down when you turn it off. Downside? It takes almost a minute to turn on/load everything/ready to go. Upside, you don't have to deal with catastrophic lag after a day or two of uptime. Not sure if I can link external sites, but the RTings review on this has some good info on color settings, as the out of the box settings are not ideal. https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/tcl/5-series-s546-2021-qled Pros: * Bright, like REALLY bright (500+ nits), great for our living room that has a lot of natural light/glare * Google TV interface has way more going on than Roku, we like it as it shows actual show options from various services * VRR for gaming * Lightweight for somewhat easy mounting * Sound is serviceable in a small to medium room Cons: * Software suffers hardcore after a day or two of uptime * Not quite enough lumens for HDR to work 'well' * The auto-enabled settings don't do it justice in some cases. We turned off all the noise reduction stuff and had to adjust the frame smoothing. You essentially need to be tech savvy to make this thing look good. Honestly this might have been 3 stars because of the absolutely terrible interface lag after a few days of being on, and the fact that the stock color/noise/smoothing settings are not great and a lot of people won't know how to adjust them....but for the PRICE you can't beat this, and those issues can be fixed (mostly) with some googling so 4 stars seems fair.

Picture quality is great, but the Google TV software is terrible. It is mind-boggling that there is no way to disable the TV's speakers when using a Sonos sound bar. I am stuck with an echo if I use my soundbar with the TV. The workaround I have for this is to plug in a cable into the headphone jack so that the audio only comes out of the soundbar. Called TCL support to help with this and they weren't helpful and couldn't rectify the issue. The only support articles on their website for this issue are for Roku TVs. I've been able to do this on every other TV I've owned since 2011, so it's not like this is some fancy feature - it's simply a terrible oversight in the software. Also, I am unable to get the TV remote to work with the Sonos sound bar, even though I've confirmed it's an IR remote. Not sure what's up with that and if that's a Sonos problem or an issue with the TV remote. So, we have to have the TV remote plus our phones out to control the Sonos volume. Less than ideal! The picture quality itself is great for a cheap TV - it's not the best but that's not what you're paying for. The above issues are pretty frustrating as an end user, since they are the bare minimum when setting up a TV.

The screen itself is excellent. Vivid, crisp picture quality -QLED for a reasonable price. The bundled software, on the other hand, might as well be a cancerous tumor. Google tv is just another excuse for google to serve you up ads - and there is no way to avoid it. They purposely put extra hurdles in the way of your desired input so that you have to view ads before reaching it. I payed good buck for this TV, why do I have to put up with any of this? Compound this with continuous software updates, and there's nothing stopping google from making the software gradually even more invasive over the next 10 years!

If quirks are features this thing is jam packed! Joking aside I like this TV. It has a good image quality and brightness. I much prefer Google TV over other choices, which is the main reason I purchased this for my room. The good: - cheaper than Sony - great color and brightness - affordable 4K tv - nice form factor, simple install The bad: - doesn't always work with Google assistant - colors funky out of the box - sound + sound features could be better - restarts if black screen on too long While it's a nice TV and I'm giving it 4-stars, I really hope the software gets massively improved. It shuts off when I idle the firestick, restarts, then goes to the home screen. Undesirable as I have this on 2 TVs (quality splitter) and my intention is to leave it black when I wish. I have an LG OLED that doesn't suffer from this.. The picture out of the box is very saturated - greens seem unreal and almost neon. It took quite a bit of tweaking but it's finally decent. The 27 lighting zones on the 50" give it a bit more depth; not OLED level but a nice midground and better than full panel backlighting. Colors really pop thanks to quantum dots. Only complaint picture-wise is motion blur, but it can be minimized in settings by turning the related features OFF (or to low). Headache inducing + experience breaking if you don't. The quirks really bother me, but I think it has more to do with the software than anything hardwared on the TV. Aside from what's mentioned, it has this issue where it WILL NOT TURN ON by Google Assistant unless it's been on the the last 12 or so hours (otherwise I have to use the remote - very annoying). On this same topic the Google Assistant built in was a bit distracting.. I already have my phone + a mini sitting right beside me. I disabled the one on TV as it hurt more than help. I WISH I could do more in settings regarding audio: I messaged about setting a delay for optical out - which is there now - but isn't enough. I run mine thru my sound card on my PC since it's a hub to my sound system. My other TV lets me choose how I want audio out, even combining outputs like the 3.5mm with the built in speakers; the TCL does not. If you plug in a 3.5mm, YOU CANNOT USE BUILT IN SPEAKERS without unplugging it. No software option to disable, unplugging it from the other end doesn't help. My original plan was to use this (3.5mm) on a splitter to share with my LG TV. Unfortunately I now have a cable and splitter just chilling until TCL does something with this. To use my sound system I either have to run content to both TVs and use the LGs controls, or control the volume via PC. Isn't a *big* deal, but annoying. I tried 2 different routes hooking this thing to sound and both somewhat disappointed. The built-in apps are nothing special but it does run Android so you get the full sweep of apps. For $500 it's not a bad TV. If this is an extra and not your primary, definitely worth hooking up (unless you can swing for a better like OLED TV - it's nice enough but if you can afford better get a Sony OLED (uses LG panel) or upcoming QD-OLED (uses Samsung panel) to have the features of Google TV and quality of Sony. I couldn't justify the price tag so I got this and LG - not disappointed with either but for $1.2K+ you can get much better).

Replaced a Samsung QLED. The picture is really good for the price point(might be a better picture than the Samsung it replaced) as I got it for $100 off. That being said, the software is horrible. It’s slow and laggy. A personal issue I have is having to dig through the settings to get to the sleep timer. Annoying. If you are someone who watches various platforms such as Netflix, Hulu, etc, the laggy software might steer you away from this TV. But the picture at this price point makes it a good deal and I’m happy with the purchase.

Picture quality is good. Sound quality is terrible. Android TV is being replaced with Google TV so this TV made more sense. I originally got the Android TV TCL 50S434 and thought it was defective because the speaker sounded hollow. Swapped that for a HISENSE 50A6G which was a bit better but still sounded hollow. Swapped another time for this TCL 50S546 mainly cause of Google TV. Decided to use a sound bar so the TCL speakers no longer bothers me. Lag wasn’t really noticeable prior to update. After update it was noticeable here and there flipping through screens. HBO Max was a struggle for me.

Picture quality is excelent. Operating system is very good also. Can find a lot of chanels to watch. It has a Roku built into the TV. The only down side is when we purchased we asked about watching our cable network on it and we were told it would work. It does not work on this system. We did not install it right away. When we did I did not even watch it for about 2 months as it went into out master bedroom. Our grandchildren watched youtube on it and it worked fine for them. Then I got ill and I wanted to watch the shows on cable that we normorally watched. That really frusterated me a lot. I could not find them on the network channels either. I don't have an antenna maybe I could have found something on that I not an option at this time.

I have had this TV for a few weeks now and I would say it is overall a very good tv. I do like Google Tv and I think it has more potential than roku tv, but I feel it is incomplete. It is a liitle slow sometimes. The tv itself has a nice picture. If you want a very simple tv, I would suggest going with the roku model.

I love this tv. It gets to about 600nits at max, it has great contrast and color, so it's a really good budget tv for HDR gaming, and the fiddling you can do with the small features is nuts. It has VRR for Xbox series x (which I'm playing on) and I assume PS5 has this as well, and an auto low latency mode for gaming. Cyberpunk 2077 looks really good on it with all the neon lights in the city, especially with ray tracing on. My problems with the tv are why it's a four star, you get what you pay for, and this is a budget tv. first, the dimming zones are really aggressive and way too big: I have the 50inch tv and it has like 25 zones, which is laughable in comparison to the tcl6 series which has over 100. But if you put it to low then it's not so bad on aggression, although you wonk get the inky blacks like on high. Second, it's only a 60hrz panel, so no 120 Series x gaming, however I knew this going in, and couldn't pass up the sale, which was like 300$ or somthing like that. all in all the tv is really good, the best I've had so far, and I even got the same model for my grandparents.
