Great price for for a tv with a good picture. The user interface could be arranged for easier access to commonly used settings. For example, closed captions which I turn on or off depending what is being viewed. Better still, add a button to the remote. Overall pleased with the tv’s performance so far.

...Be sure to get a sound bar with this. The speakers and sound are not very good.
It has a decent quality picture for the price however I had issues getting the picture adjusted to the way that it looked good to me. It felt like no matter what I adjusted the whites were always overwhelming (I was using this in a dark room). While it is sharp, it didn't as sharp as some other TV brands I've used. The QLED makes the colors pop which I liked.
The Apple TV app does not work properly on the Google OS. It logs out after a few hours so every time I wanted to use it I had to log into it again.I know this is not a specific TCL issue but a Google App related issue. Otherwise, the Google OS is clean, looks good and is easy to use.
So If you are buying a TV to rely on the built in apps without getting an external streamer, be aware of this, at least with the Google OS.
Overall this is a decent TV for the price.

Was quicker than most other smart tv's at first but very quickly bogged down. Good side is you can use ABD to help block things and clean it up but honestly its still better to just use an external device like a separate pc or Nvidia Shield. The thing that made me the angriest is I looked for a tv with an ethernet jack specifically. And you would assume the minimum standard for ethernet jack nowadays is 1Gigabit like pretty much everything else is, but this is a 100MBPS RJ45 jack and I am sure they do not specify that on purpose. With all the extra junk running and then trying to stream a video, 4k and even just a higher bitrate 1080p it is slow a good amount of the time.

I am so happy with this purchase! The remote is so easy to use and the voice assist is amazing. The sound quality is also very good. I sold my sound bar because the built in audio was so good that i didnt need it anymore. If i truly want i can connect to any speaker via Bluetooth if i want a big sound. Im considering purchasing a smaller one for my kitchen

Did a bit of research before buying and a lot of recommendations were for the series 5 over newer models. Spent a little bit more as newer ones were discounted for labor day, but after a few weeks I don't mind at all that I had to downsize to a 50inch vs my previous (older, lower res) 55inch. Black colors in particular are rich. Love the color brightness and saturation controls which give me control for setting my preferences.

The color settings I just cannot seem to get right. I’ve watched things in various ways to test for issues. Like watching a movie on the same app thru TCL native Ui or thru Apple TV. Or a movie I own not streamed. And for whatever reason I just cannot get a good balance of colors hues contrast and all that. I’ve reset multiple times to factory settings & try to recalibrate. I’ve never had this issue before. Last TV was a 70” Samsung didn’t touch visual settings except to modify brightness up or down. This tv I have had to poke around in ever single setting and still just don’t know what it is. The quality isn’t bad actually. It’s just the actual visual is just off for me. But for like $300 I’m not too pressed and based on price I’d recommend.

Hi Squid,
Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that you are not having the same great experience that the majority of our customers report having. There are options available to adjust the settings to better fit your personal preference. You can access the Options menu on the TV by pressing the asterisk (*) button on your remote while watching content. Additionally, you can access expert picture settings by downloading the free Roku mobile app on a smartphone or tablet. The Roku mobile app works as a remote and allows you to access additional features like voice search, private listening, expert picture settings, and more. If you need any further assistance, please reach out to us at [email protected] with your contact information and a description of what you need help with. Enjoy!

Not a good experience, exchanged for roku version

I was looking forward to the release of the google tv version of the TCL 5 series for a while and finally pulled the trigger and got it. Unfortunately looks like i got a bad unit but hopefully my experience helps someone else who mightve got a bad unit as well. When people say the setup process is slow, they really meant it. This thing took a long time to set up. Solid 20 30 minutes process as compared to the 10 minutes a roku takes to setup. After the initial set up, all seemed fine. Unplugged the tv to wall mount, plugged it back in... suddenly the tv was not connecting to wifi. I thought okay, maybe its a small bug. So i tried connecting again, turned wifi on and off multiple times, nothing. I had to do a factory reset to try and get the wifi to work again. So i went through the entire set up process again which took another 20 minutes. Everything was working then the same thing happened. Wifi stopped working. Had to do another factory reset and set up process again which sucked. Finally wifi was working and stable. Was watching some content to see how the tv was handling colors and DSE. My unit was producing inaccurate reds and greens and whites. I think an average consumer maybe wouldnt notice, but it was super noticeable to me. I tried tinkering with the settings and the calibrations but nothing helped. I also did a DSE test and noticed it was pretty bad. It also had some blotches on the screen. The OS didnt help during this situation as it was super slow and super buggy. I came to the conclusion that i got a bad unit so i exchanged it and talked to the employee and ended up going with the roku variant. Night and day difference. The roku variant hasnt had wifi issues, picture looks perfect and no DSE at all and setup took less than 10 minutes. I know many reviewers online say the google tv variant is a lot brighter than the roku variant, and to be honest i cant tell a difference. They both seem on par with each other in terms of brightness and PQ. Another note, Get a soundbar!!!!This tv has probably the worst audio ive ever heard come out of a tv. Roku variant as well has bad audio quality. So invest in a sound bar! I was really looking forward to this unit but didnt want to risk another fluke so just went with the roku version instead. Im sure i simply got a bad unit but i hope i can help someone else if theyre questioning their unit.

This is a pretty good tv, but not until you adjust the picture settings. The way it came programmed looked terrible and I was ready to take it back. The colors were off and it made people look weird and unnaturally colored.
What worked for us: movie mode, reduce contrast to 50, change sharpness to 30, and move the color temperature slider more toward cool.
After that, it looks much better, but the sound quality is not very good. We'll probably try to get a soundbar. It just doesnt have the best clarity.
The apps can be a little buggy sometimes but i like that the home screen has a "continue watching" section where it has the shows/movies you have in progress from whatever apps.
Overall a good tv, just be prepared to change the picture settings and maybe get a soundbar.

Great Display, Buggy OS

Need a cheap 4K TV for a guest bedroom, office, or somewhere you need a large display? This could be it.
Pros:
- The display looks nice. Colors look great + no issues with motion after adjusting
- Lots of settings to adjust and tweak picture for a budget TV
Cons:
- OS is laggy and buggy. Onboarding setup is cumbersome. I would not get this TV for an elderly person due to the bugs and initial setup. Lag can be fixed by buying a streaming stick and never using Google TV.
- Picture out of the box was awful. Super warm-toned and colors looked displeasing. This was fixed easily, but may not be as easy for less technically inclined folks
- Speakers sound terrible, which is to be expected for the cost of the TV.

It's great for what it is. Replacing a TCL from the previous generation that started to have a permanent line across the top.
You can see the panels on this tv but only when it's a black screen, so not noticable during normal use.
The speakers on this tv are pretty good but I hooked up a speaker and subwoofer. It was super easy to do, it's just plug and play on this tv
Overall, I would go with this brand again next time
