TCL TVs have some great reviews online and, although they are still in the budget category, the 525 is definitely not the cheapest out there. How disappointing that after driving to the store and back 20 min each way, installing it, and hooking up my various streaming accounts, my first TCL 55” 525 started showing signs of vertical blue rectangles on the screen within minutes of beginning to watch a show. I drove back to the store to exchange it - another hour and half down. My second tv was slightly better but had similar blue bars that are not acceptable. So I’ll be bringing it back to Best Buy AGAIN. I’m so disappointed with TCL. Save your money and buy a name brand that doesn’t have these quality issues. I would rate it as 0 stars if possible.

Best Buy does not back up the products they sell. I was really excited about this TV. It worked great for about 27 days. Suddenly, a pop up that never went away. It says “This USB device requires more power. Use power adapter if available. For more help, visit go.roku.com/USB” Mind you, there is NOTHING plugged into the USB port. The TV is basically junk now. Best Buy will not except it back. Not a happy customer.

The colors are very good. The blacks are there and the brightness is strong. Roku takes a little getting used to. It doesn’t turn on to your previous station. Must always select app. Not easy. The REMOTE, standard infrared is useless. The location of the sensors on the tv itself are unknown. Almost returned the the unit because of this. Had the other Roku WiFi unit Remote purchased for another tv, took it out, paired it, and wham, the thing works perfectly. I’m keeping it and maybe I’ll soon forget the infrared remote.....

First of all kudos to Best Buy for excellent followup as delivery time approached for my TV. Delivery was on time and quickly completed. The delivery people even put on protective covers for their shoes coming in, a nice added touch. Now about the TV. Okay, it's not a high-end Samsung but this TCL 55 inch TV shines from unpacking it to getting it setup and watching it. I was able to unpack it alone, put the feet on it alone, then move it to its final home, again alone. All along the way I exercised reasonable care and had no trouble whatsoever. Connecting it to the cable box was a breeze. Logging in to my Roku account, ( which is free so never pay for it ), began software updates which was done quickly. Then my services, (YouTubeTV, Prime Video, Netflix, Apple TV and some free apps) were added to the home screen from my account. Start to finish after delivery was about 30 minutes. The picture on the TV using default settings is amazing to my old, tired eyes. Upscaled content also looks amazing on this TV. My roommate enjoys watching older shows, which also look good. For comparison to the older model TCL this TV replaced I chose to watch a very familiar movie, "Jersey Boys", on Netflix to start. I was delighted with the difference. And the sound of all the music in the movie was decent as well as the outstanding picture. The picture of this TV actually compares nicely to some higher end Samsungs I've seen in friends' homes, at about half the price. One recurring complaint I see is the remote. The remote is designed for the Roku TV platform and functions well with it. The volume and mute buttons being on the side isn't as much an inconvenience to me as it seems to be to other reviewers I've seen considering it keeps the size of the remote smaller. There is also an app available for both Android and iOS that functions as a remote and can be voice controlled. The $329 price tag Best Buy had on this TV was as good a price as I could find anywhere else, plus free delivery made this purchase a no-brainer for me. In fact, I'm now ready to upgrade the smaller TCL TV in my man cave to this model, and think I'll finish then submit this review and order it. Last but not least, if you're on the fence, take the plunge. Don't over expect and this TV will very likely satisfy you as well.

We looked for a TV that suported 4K, could be wall mounted and be between 5- and 6- inch on a budget to replace are 10 year old straightforward TCL TV. This smart TV checked all these boxes and while it;s only been in use for a month, we love it. sufficient HDMI connections, optical out to the AV receiver and HDR works great in combination with fire TV, Cable box is only 1080P but quality is so much better than our old 1080 TV. We will have to see if the quality is the same as the old unit (which is now used in one of the guest rooms) but so far we are very happy as far as price/performance is concerned.

I use this as a secondary tv in one of my bedrooms. It’s a great tv for the price. Picture quality is solid. I like the Roku interface due to it’s ease of use and the apps that are supported. I find that the volume buttons on the remote are a bit quirky but found that if I use the remote left-handed, they actually fall in line with my index finger. Either way, the Roku app for mobile devices is a great substitute that offers a keyboard for easier search typing. Overall, I am happy with my purchase and would happily buy again if needed.

Easy setup. TV updated the firmware after the WiFi settings were entered. Setup of Netflix, Prime video, and other streaming services was fast and easy. Great color depth. Built-in Speakers are a lot better then the TV it replaced. The ability to rename inputs was a plus. Instead of HDMI 1, HDMI 2 etc it's now Blueray Player, Xbox, Wii, etc. Easier for the kids to pick the input of their game of choice. The viewing angle is not a wide as other TVs but over all it is a great TV.

Me and my husband are very pleased with this TV purchase and enjoying it very much. We bought it for ourselves for Christmas, and its been great. The picture is very clear and sharp, with a great sound. My husband especially likes the features that a Roku TV provides. There is a countless section of movies and television to choose from. We have such a nice selection to pick from we are thinking about dropping our current TV package we have with Cox Cable. The selection is that great. I cant think there is anything we don't like about this TV or wishes it had. We just love it.

I bought this TV after researching the latest and greatest forever. I have an LG and a Samsung, both of which are of the same size and caliber. I was so surprised. This tv is absolutely amazing. Better than the other 2 and then some especially with the price point. Color is spot on and darn perfect. Gaming on this TV is best ever. I will be getting the class 8 in a 65” for the den. You won’t go wrong getting a TCL product.

    Pros mentioned:
    Picture, Price, Roku
    Cons mentioned:
    Connections, Remote

TV looks and works great with many good and latest features. Its menu performance (speed at bringing them up and navigating them) and video performance is very good. I think the built in speakers are ok when I checked it out briefly the first day but I have been using a soundbar the whole time otherwise. I really like that it let me download the xfinity app so I can watch my cable TV without a box and maybe more importantly, without the cable itself. Really nice if you have cable service. I've had Roku devices for quite a few years now and do like the Roku service, menu interface, apps selection and general performance and setup options. So the TV itself is 5 stars for me. The remote is a disappointment though. It needs to be pointed directly at the lower middle of the TV to work. In fact, during setup I thought for a while that the TV was freezing up and not responding and was thinking I would have to return it as defective but it was just that I was not pointing the remote at the correct area of the TV and so it was not taking input. Once I figured that out all went ok. The remote has 3 or 4 large buttons dedicated to specific subscription services of which I don't pay for 3 of them and I accidentally hit them once in a while and it kicks me out of my video and its app and tries to start the service listed on the button. Really bad in my opinion and a sign of advertising dollar greed over customer best interests IMO. The buttons should be programmable to whatever apps the TV owner chooses. I didn't see any place in the menus to do that. Another area where the remote is deficient - it can't navigate the menus of my xbox one the way my other TV remotes can. This is a pain if you like to check out friends or apps on your xbox but not actually getting its controller to play games. Now I have to switch to the xbox controller just to go through the menus. If you have one you know what I mean. You do have the option of using a Roku phone app or a universal remote (I have not tried either yet) if you want but I believe the remote of a very well engineered and customer pleasing device should not have any of the issues I mention above. FYI: I guess you would have to spend more and get a Samsung or LG or something if these issues are important to you. I wanted an inexpensive TV so price was a major factor and I really like the TV and its software and performance so I will only knock one star for the remote deficiencies. Even with the remote not being all that it should be, I am happy with the TV and I think anyone looking in this price range would be also.

I bought this one sale, and for the price it's a great TV, IF you can get one that works right. Mine went to a black screen 2-3 times in the 3 or so weeks I had it before I returned it. I had to unplug the TV and plug it back in in order for the TV to turn back on and display an image from either the built in Roku or any of the other devices plugged into it. It also had some weird audio glitches/pops that were loud and scared our pets whenever you would switch inputs on the TV or even if you were watching antenna TV and the signal stopped and started for a minute. Based on my experiences I have to say to try and spring for the slightly more expensive LG 7300 series TVs, or move up to a TCL 6 series or the Vizio M series (what I bought as a replacement).

I love the TV but not fond of the remote. Volume on the side leads you to mute the volume when holding it for other functions.

This kid series television meets all my clarity needs, having a strong refresh rate for the regular amount of gaming that I do, at a low price when compared to bigger name companies.

    Pros mentioned:
    Picture, Price, Roku

Bought this as a replacement for our bedroom tv that was showing its age . I was somewhat hesitant to go with a budget set but for the price and what little use it will go through it was well worth it. The picture quality is pretty decent, not anywhere near my living room set ( LG OLED) but I knew there would be no comparison. Roku is built in but I do not use it . I use a Apple TV 4K as my main streaming device. Setup is pretty straightforward, hook it up , scan for OTA channels, set up the WiFi for updates. The remote is streamlined, basic Roku remote but the App is available and I strongly recommend you download it , makes the experience much better. The 4K quality seems good ,again this is no OLED so don’t expect to be blown completely away. The Apple TV acknowledged the Dolby Vision setting it will stream in Dolby 4K . The picture is good and enjoyable. Sound quality is good . For what I paid I’m not gonna complain, I’ve definitely seen worse. We will see what kind of longevity this set gives .

This is a great all in one TV. The picture is very good. We have Roku wireless speakers paired with the TV. It is just a great overall TV for the price.
