Best tv for streaming

We chose this TV after learning it was the best value for its price bracket. We cut the cord on cable and love Roku for streaming, so we were already familiar with the software. The only feature I do not love is on the remote. The volume controls are on the side and with how small the remote is, very easily hit accidentally. Other than that, it has beautiful picture and easy set up. Very happy with this TV.

TLC for TCL

I needed an inexpensive 4k set for a bedroom. My research using consumer reviews pointed me toward TLC Series 6 specifically. It has Roku built in which made it even more useful and affordable. At BBY the set sells for $500. I have 3 Sony 4k sets which cost thousands of dollars more than this set. I can attest the TCL Series 6 meets the challenge. For those on a budget, this is the Best Buy.

I was very hesitant on buying this TV vs the Samsung 7000 due to the negative reviews regarding the dirty screen effect and bad panels. But going to the store and viewing this one and the Samsung side by side I noticed an obvious difference. The tcl had way more details and contrast even showing lighting details the Samsung did not show at all. It was so obvious that I rethought my concerns. I also asked a rep at the store and noticed they viewed this TV as the "house" brand and discouraged me from getting it saying the Samsung was superior. The funny part was he didn't know that the price of the TV was the same as the Samsung and didn't even know where it was in the store. But going with my eyes I saw the difference. All the reviews of the tv stated this TV was superior as well just beware of the bad panels. Once this TV went on sale for the holidays I decided to go with the this one and play the lottery. I definitely lucked out.
I believe that the bad panels really affected the tvs at launch since there's not too many negative reviews about it as of late. The doby vision looks great, and it looks great in a bright room and at night. Games play great on here and I see so many details I didn't see with my last 4k tv. Great buy! Guest come over and even comment on how great the picture looks without me even telling them.
The roku TV is a plus too and if you have apple TV it automatically goes into doby vision mode and enhances all normal content to have darker blacks and balanced whites.
Go for it!

Before purchasing the TV, I did a lot of research and driving around to different stores to see all the OLED and more expensive LED models. Ended up choosing this one, because it was by far the best bang for my buck, as I couldn't justify paying triple the price (or even higher) for something whose picture quality was 1-2% better on paper, so pretty much indistinguishable to the naked eye. The picture quality is in line with the more expensive $1000-$2000 LED TVs. The sound is... not great. Volume maxes out around 60, going any higher doesn't produce any noticeable increase in volume, and there is virtually zero bass. I'm not gonna dock a star for that, I use a 5.1 along with it and mute the tv speakers, but I will highly recommend you use a separate audio system, as the TV's speakers (like most other tv speakers) will get drowned out pretty easily by most loud things (vacuum, air conditioner, etc). It was obviously one of the areas where a compromise had to be made in order to keep the price down, and it does not bother me one bit, but again, i have a surround setup connected to it. I imagine a 2.1 setup would also work just fine, ie: klipsch promedia 2.1 or bookshelf speakers or etc.

Glad I purchased a 6 series 55 inch tv. Picture quality is fantastic. Can’t say anything bad about it. Like the interface. Easy to switch from satellite tv to a streaming box.

I give this TV at 5 start of you because of the great quality and the great price. I've done multiple tests on the vertical Imaging that people are complaining about and I have not seen anything. For the price I do not think you can get this high quality of TV on the market today

Phenomal value. Genuinely top notch visuals, with great black levels, high brightness, great contrast. Connectivity is great. Roku TV is a big plus.
My only gripe is that the remote isn't the most reliable, and I often spend time pointing it in all different directions trying to get it to work.
Honestly next to 0 drawbacks other than that!

Bought this TV to replace a 2 year old 55" Samsung 4k HDTV that developed a black spot on the bottom of the screen. So disappointing, but it led me to the TCL! The TCL picture is superior to the Samsung in many ways! If you can get past that it is not a "name brand," you will not be disappointed. Spend the extra few bucks for the 6 series! Now I know why they compare the TCL 6 series to TV's over $1000!

I’ve been wanting this tv for over 7 months since Linus Tech Tips recommended/reviewed it as one of the best TVs under $1000. It blows any tv out of the water in the same price range. You can see some slight banding issues but that is very minor and not worth 400-500 premium over the competitors. This tv is near equivalent of the 1000+ TVs, not the cheap Black Friday crap TVs under 500.

I have owned the TCL 6 series tv for about 3 weeks now. My 3 week review would be, its a great TV for the price but only because of the price. There is plenty of faults with the TV, for example, only a IR blaster remote. At times time the remote will not respond unless directly pointing at the small dot below the screen. It's as if I am on the Buzz Lightyear roller coaster in Disneyland attempting to score as many points to beat my nephew. But in this case, I am only trying to turn down the volume.
Also, all the rumors of the screen are true. The white lines that appear when there is a grey screen. But when I watch sports or any show or movie the picture is great. Unfortunately, you can't un-see the white lines when there is a grey picture or transition in whatever it is that you are watching.

Hi TCLowner,
The voice remote has both WiFi and IR functionality depending on the function you are using. An alternative to the remote that came with the TV, you can download the free Roku mobile app on your smartphone or tablet. The Roku mobile can be used as a remote, so you can toggle power and volume without having to aim the remote at the TV. The Roku app also provides additional features such as private listening, voice search, voice control, etc. Happy viewing!

Great picture quality, good color space after calibrating the screen. Poor motion handling, not recommended for sports fans. The Roku OS, even though it is a bit laggy, is my favorite out of the TVs we own, pretty easy to use. This TV'd be perfect for gamers looking for a budget screen to play and stream media on.

This is a great Smart TV and very easy to use. Set-up was quick and it seamlessly connected to my DIRECTV and other devices. There is a little bit of image distortion when you stand right in front of it but it looks amazingly clear when you back up a few feet. Overall, I am very happy with this TV!

Although it cannot compare to my OLED, it does a good job as my bedroom TV.
The color and brightness are great, and the contrast is good for a lower-end TV thanks to the full-array backlighting.
My only complaint is the crappy remote. It gets very frustrating to use when you have to press a button 2-3 times to get it to respond.

I cannot say enough about the image I see on the screen. The perfectly dark darks, the bright clear colors.
Unfortunately EVERY SINGLE TIME you use any smart features like Netflix or Hulu, I have to restart networking, recheck everything, and sometimes even reboot the whole thing.
Rebooting a TV. Yea. I would recommend another brand.

Great picture, Roku integration flawless. Unfortunately this is my second set. The first tv had a brightness problem with Dolby Vision. No matter what setting you could barely see anything because of darkness. Also had a slight uniformity, and DSE problem. The second tv has a great picture, but more pronounced uniformity, DSE problem. I haven't decided whether to try a 3rd. Afraid of the panel lottery. This might be as good as it gets.

Upgraded to this from a Sony x800d and I couldn't be happier. Build quality, image quality, screen brightness, HDR performance, all good to great. Low input lag for gaming and solid motion handling. My only real complaint is that cable TV looks trash on this, but thats only about 15% of my view. Oh the speakers suck too, but so do most TVs.

The display on my TCL has gone permanently black after 14 months. Audio still comes through so it appears to be an issue with the panel (though the back lighting still works). TCL support walked me through unplugging and plugging it back in, and then said too bad its outside of warranty. I will be more wary of brands like this in the future (new to the US market). I suspect, especially since they are only selling this specific SKU through Best Buy, that these particular panels may be a different quality than those sold at other retailers and in other parts of the world.
That said, the TV worked well while I was able to use it. The picture was nice, but not mind blowing, even when viewing 4K and HDR content. I upgraded from a good but not great 1080p TV that was close to 10 years old and the picture on the TCL was better, but not as much as I'd hoped. The built in Roku was nice, but we mostly used an Apple TV that had more responsive navigation and was easier for visitors to navigate.
One thing to be aware of - my router detected the TV attempting to contact a Roku server every 30 seconds, even when the TV was off. I believe this is part of their advertising and data collection. It's my understanding based on Roku's privacy policy that they collect personal information including viewing history (even when you are watching TV on a different input) and log that info. There are guides available online to block this behavior which is what I ended up doing.

I would give this five stars, but I had to return the first one because it was defective - after working ok for two days, the screen suddenly went to green and white bars. Cable provider had to come out; verified everything ok; definitely a TV problem. The second set has been flawless; easy setup, great picture - just what I was looking for.

The tv has been pretty good for the last year. The remote is pretty sub par and the speaker volume is average, but the image quality is good for the price. Unfortunately about a year out the screen now stays black at startup. It acts like it's turning on, but the screen stays black and you can hear sounds when you click the remote, but you can't see anything. Apparently it's a pretty normal thing with these TV's. I did some digging and a lot of people are seeing this issue, and all around the same time (just after the 1 year warranty is up). It's pretty disappointing to spend $600 on something that barely lasts a year, but my insignia from 2012 is still going strong. Don't know that I'd buy this brand again.
