TCL - Unwatchable after 3 weeks

I liked the TV for 3 weeks, then after 22 days it went bad. Color, detail, and lighting all faded away as green and red vertical lines appeared across the entire screen. Bestbuy would not exchange or allow for return after 15 days. Told me to call TCL, after a few hours of horrible CS, language differences, and factory restarts they determined the TV was defective and told me to return it to where I purchased it from. When I told them bestbuy would not take it back they said I could ship it to them for repairs. Yeah right, Im really excited about that plan. Even if I could pack it up perfectly, what are the changes they dont say it was broke in shipping? Or it’s now my fault somehow? No Im not paying to ship a 3 week old TV back, and wait for repairs. Now what do I do with this TV? No I do not recommend this TV!! And if you do buy one, better buy some type of extended warranty.

Huge Disappointment – I Regret This Purchase

This is honestly the worst product I’ve ever bought—and I’m 40, so I’ve owned quite a few TVs over the years. I couldn’t get it to reliably stream 4K from either a Roku Ultra or an Apple TV. I tried six different HDMI cables and two Rokus, and nothing fixed the issue. The screen would cut out or go black randomly. It just never worked right. The most frustrating part? It throws off so much electromagnetic interference that my WiFi barely works in the same room. That’s not normal—and from what I’ve read, TCL knows this is an issue and didn’t properly shield the hardware. When I reached out for help, customer service wasn’t helpful at all, and Best Buy only gave me a two-week return window. So now I’m stuck with a product that doesn’t work and no real support. Really disappointed in both TCL and Best Buy on this one. I won’t be buying another TCL product again.

I’ve had this tv for about 6 months now and it is absolutely amazing. I’m pretty well versed with tech and wanted a nice tv without spending ridiculous amounts of money for a name. This checks every box. Amazing image quality and vibrant colors, super bright, great sound (for tv speakers), high refresh rate, very responsive…. the list goes on. I am so pleased with this tv. HDR looks great, super bright whites and super dark blacks, no complaints there. I was very impressed with google tv, hadn’t used it before as I’ve used basically all the other mainstream smart tv platforms. Doesn’t really ever slow down, every once in a while I’ll just clear cache and shut down all the open apps and then it’s back to new. I wasn’t expecting to game on this really at all but I tested it out in game mode and I have to say, WOW. Practically no input delay so playing FPS games is totally doable coming from someone who plays on a 240hz gaming monitor. I genuinely have zero complaints. I did my research, saw the previous generation of this tv was highly recommended and saw the upgraded tech on this new gen and tried it out. If you’re looking for a 4k tv with amazing image output, vibrant colors, hdr, gaming performance, and a responsive UI just stop looking, seriously. This is the one for you. I’ll just say you’re welcome in advance.

I bought this tv as a second monitor for my PC setup and also as a second tv to my main tv in the living room in case someone is using the living room tv. It’s not a Sony or Samsung, (i have a sony bravia 65” mini led in the living room), however i think for the price it definitely beats anything in this price range. I game on it as well for car games and it reaches a smooth 144hz in game mode, despite the advertising of up to 120hz. Not only do i use this for my PC setup and games, i watch youtube videos and movies on it handles it’s own weight compared to my Sony. Looks great, menu navigation is smooth, google software built in like my Sony tv, great low price!

The item was delivered in its box to the first floor of my building. When i opened it up, there was a large crack and the screen’s backlight would light up when i turned it on, but there was nothing displayed. Going to be a huge pain to return. I’m sure the TV is great though, just do not order it to be delivered.

First of all let me just say thanks to Best Buy for getting me this tv a day earlier than expected as I am on vacation and get to now enjoy this new tv a little more lol. The unpackaging of this tv and setup was easy. Thank you TCL for making this painless and not including a heavy metal plate for the stand, some may say thats cheap but to me it makes it easier for anyone to easily setup which is the point. The tv with the stand looks great and appears to have room for a soundbar in front. But the audio on this tv is good! I have a $800 samsumg soundbar that I dont even miss because this tv sounds good enough. It has a subwoofer in the back and the speakers on this tv is supported by onkyo. Not only did TCL upgrade the audio from last years Q7 but it added Mini-LED hence the name QM7. With what the Q7 already did in terms of contrast and brightness with still controlling blooming, this TV just surpasses it. Black levels are really good. Of course it is not OLED but OLED can not get that bright and if so you risk burn in. Maybe not now but long term. Check out Rtings website who do test on Tv’s for longevity and OLED’s do get burn in. Anyway I passed on last years QM8 and this seems like that TV from the reviews I have seen for it. As the new QM8 for 2024 seems to be taking a step up. Kudos to TCL for really upgrading their TV’s. As for the picture quality it has great setting adjustments as well as being able to set it to to an auto adjustment picture for HDR content. Game mode is still great like last year with the same game bar. The remote is the same as last years but that was already good (remote is backlit). The google operating system is quick and snappy. No lag and no issues loading apps. I have the 55 inch model and this is my personal Tv for gaming and watching my favorite movies at night. Anyone interested should definitely give this Tv a try, I am not bias to any tv brand as I have a Sony X90L in my living room, an LG OLED in another room and a Samsung Q90. Thanks again to Best Buy and TCL.

Great Brightness and Detail, Terrible Motion

I wanted a tv to watch movies, mainly streaming on apps via google tv. Ive used most of the streaming apps and have tried all the different picture, motion, clarity settings etc... and am disappointed to conclude that the main reason this tv was on sale for such a good price is because the motion is terrible.. Im not new to android TV, and the picture quality and brightness is really good on this tv but that is made useless by the horrendous stutter and judder on ALL apps watching anything. It feels like the camera is shakey and moving from side to side when watching movies causing dizziness and its very distracting. When something moves across the screen or has motion, there is very bad ghosting and lag effect. Turning on the Motion settings for Blur and Judder Reduction turns movies into the soap opera effect which i hate BTW. It makes the scenes cut and transition too fast and makes movies move like its 120+ fps. If i put these settings to 1,1 its manageable but i hate to settle for this. I might as well spend $300 more for a Sony or Samsung that wont have these motion issues. I get that TCL is not your top tier brand and yes they are evolving, but this model tv is in the too early stages to be adequate for ppl that actually care about good picture and motion quality and not settle for less. Perhaps TCL may fix this with better processors in the future and better quality. Sorry TCL, but the great brightness from this Mini LED wont distract me from the real motion problems here. I wonder why this is not being talked about too much from content creators, comments, and online in general. There are a few posts that highlight the issues but, I wish i would've seen these warnings before buying the tv and searching online only after experiencing the problem. Now i have to deal with the hassle of returning this which is not where I want to be. This is why i have always gone with top tier brands. Lesson learned.

I’m a big fan of the MiniLED TVs TCL has released in the past few years. Other brands just simply can’t compete with the value of these panels and after getting one home and playing with it further, i can see that the gap is even wider than I thought… I had to play with the settings of the TV while watching a few youtube videos to get the tv looking just how i wanted, but that tike was well spent as I now get to experience amazing color and fidelity on everything I throw at it! The colors are awesome, the brightness is VERY BRIGHT, and the 144/120hz is great for the one or two games my PS5 can actually hit those refresh rates in lol. There are technological downsides to MiniLED panels, like backlight sones creating ‘bloom’ and the area around brighter elements on a darker background tend to have a dark shadow around them when using the local contrast options, but after some quality time with the TV, those trade offs are well worth it for the image quality this panel can produce at less than half the cost of a C4 or S90D. I’m very happy with this TV and I hope TCL continues the good work!

For the price, this TV has very good specs and a beautiful picture (once you turn off some of the Automatic picture adjustments). But there are a few things that could be better: 1. There's no real manual (items #2, #4 below belong in a manual) 2. The remote does not have Pause/Start, Fast Forward, Rewind buttons for controlling streaming media. I found out (by googling) that the OK button can be used for Pause/Start and the two arrow buttons on either side of the OK button will do Fast Forward and Rewind. 3. The USB ports currently support USB drives up to 32GB or smaller in size, which is ridiculous! If you insert a USB drive larger than 32GB it says there's a problem with the USB device! You can hardly find USB drives that small anymore. My 10 year old Samsung TV supported USB drives over 32GB in size. 4. I want the TV to default to HDMI port 1 by default when it is turned on, however that is not possible as it always defaults to Google TV. Later I found out that you can set the power on default to be the Last Used input, which helps but is not the best solution because I want it to ALWAYS power on to the HDMI port 1. 5. The TCL app on iOS cannot discover my TV, no matter what I tried. I tried both the WiFi and Bluetooth options and the app always said no devices were discovered. Do they ever test compatibility of their devices and their app? 6. The Input ports on the back of the TV have very little space. As a result some of my HDMI cable connectors were too large, forcing me to try and insert them at an angle which might damage the port on the TV. I bought new HDMI cables that had smaller, thinner connectors in order to safely connect my HDMI devices. 7. The volume level indicator only tells you whether you're turning the volume up or down. I would prefer if it showed you a number for the volume level. That way you could set the volume to a consistent level. If TCL could fix these things this would have been a 5 star review.

This TV has remarkable picture quality with a TON of options for those that like to really fine-tune their experience, but out of the box the preset options all hold up great. The blacks are deep and the tv can get eye-searingly bright, allowing it to combat glare with relative ease. The included ports are great for any number of consoles or devices, and even has a dedicated earc port for soundbars so you dont waste a good 4k port on that. Google TV UX is a breeze to use- snappy, responsive, and intuitive. The remote is backlit and comfortable to hold.

I purchased this TV while it was on sale, and the combination of HDR and mini-LED technology provides an exceptional viewing experience. Additionally, the rear subwoofer enhances the bass sound from the TV speakers. Furthermore, I can fully utilize all the features of my PS5 with this TV, including VRR, 120Hz refresh rate, 4K resolution, and HDR support. Great bang for your buck! After lots of research, this seemed to be a great price-to-quality ratio and it does not disappoint. The picture quality is fantastic, it has great brightness and colors, and deep blacks that rival OLED TVs. There are a few software quirks with the Google TV software, but the interface is nicer than the Roku TV I had previously.

I watch a lot of fast sports, like hockey and football, so I wanted something with a fast refresh rate. While this tv supports up to 144hz, it's important to know that only one of the three HDMI ports supports that speed. The second HDMI supports only up to 120mz, and the third HDMI only supports 60hz. So you will need to be strategic in what you plug into each HDMI port. Equally important to knowing what to plug into each HDMI port: make sure you have both ethernet and HDMI cables that are rated high enough to handle the faster speeds. It made an obvious difference in the refresh rate ability. For example, before upgraded my cables, when a hockey puck traveled at speed, it would blur; same with a thrown football. Another thing to remember is to choose the correct type of display speed. I have mine set to "sports" mode for everything. Anything other than that isn't as bright and crisp for my liking. I have horrible eyesight, so brighter is better for me. I do like the brightness overall, and with the upgraded cables, streaming sports much clearer than my old setup. The only problem I have is that the ESPN app likes to freeze up, which it rarely did on my previous Samsung TV. You definitely notice a lack of clarity on some cable channels, but I'm assuming that's the fault of the broadcasting company, not the TV, because my sports stuff has excellent clarity.

TV is great at this price point! Bright enough to look good in a sunny living room. Picture is super clear. Local dimming looks good and doesn't have a lot of blooming. The remote it comes with is extremely comfortable in the hand and easy to use. Would definitely recommend this TV to anyone looking for a mid range setup that still performs really well. The speakers on the rear sound good. Was using a Vizio soundbar previously, but now just using the built in sound.
