Customers are impressed with the picture quality, calling it "awesome." They also appreciate the TV's affordability, ease of use, and the Roku interface. The remote control, however, received some criticism for being difficult to use.

My first TCL tv and I’m very pleased with the purchase. Went with this 65” 5 series TCL, after My 4 yr old 9 series Curved Samsung bit the dust. Never again will I spend $2300 on a tv. I expected that TV to last more than 4 yrs. The TCL at only $599 what a bargain. This tv has 4 hdmi, usb, Ethernet, it even has a special plug for composite audio video input, if you still have older gaming consoles or vcr. HDR and Dolby Vision look amazing through this tv. Netflix, Disney+, Hulu all look fantastic. Xbox one X looks stunning, PS4 pro and slim look great. This tv automatically turns on game mode when playing games on xbx as long as you have low latency mode checked in the settings of the xbx. My favorite feature of this tv is that it has ROKU. Remote is simple to use and tv also has very good sound. Added some ROKU shelf speakers and sound quality is amazing, no matter what you play through them. Very simple hookup. Pandora app on Roku works perfectly and sound is phenomenal. If you’re looking for a new tv do not hesitate to look at the TCL lineup. By far the best tv I’ve ever owned and I’ve had several.

The way to go when ready to cut the cable cord

I have Roku devices on TVs in another house and love the system. That house is cable free, all WiFi. I finally decided to cut the cord in the primary residence. So bought this TV instead of another and an additional Roku. This TV came out of the box 100% ready to go. Simplest set up I’ve ever dealt with on a TV. I can’t over exaggerate enough the quality of the picture. It’s in a 13’x13’ room and is a perfect fit. Thank you TCL for such a quality product.

Turning this thing on for the first time squashed all hesitation about buying from this brand. It looks great. I got a stand off Amazon and mounted this thing to it and all good. Games look great, Netflix, Hulu, and Sling works fantastically. And controls my entertainment system through the ARC HDMI connection. Want a cheap 65inch, get it. My only gripe is that it's not HDR10 compatible.

While I like most everything about this TV, the WiFi failed after a software update from TCL downloaded and automatically installed. After the update, the MAC address for the WiFi card showed 00:00:00:00:00 meaning either the main board or the NIC aren't compatible with the new software. I purchased a GeekSquad service contract with this TV so Agents have been out three times to replace the main board twice and the WiFi card two times. Every time the TV has to be completely reset to out of box state. On initial power on The TV has WiFi access. As soon as it gets to the internet it automatically updates the TV software and kills the WiFi. Three different GeekSquad Agents have watched this happen. While I am a fan of the Roku interface, and the overall TV components (display & features) are great, this problem created by TCL's automatic download and installation of incompatible software will likely require me to switch to another brand for replacement.

I have been a big fan of TCL 4K TVs and this one really let us down. Issues started after only eight months with videos on streaming services (Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, and Disney+) failing to play. Our internet and router are very good and we have no problems with internet connection. I did a factory reset on the TV, hoping it would fix the issue and it made it worse! Now we’re suddenly having display issues. If you change the volume the volume logo pops up all over the screen and is distorted. The same thing happens for some of the streaming service logos when they’re loading. This is the last time I buy a TCL that is before the 6-series. The only good thing this TV is for now is PS4 gaming. Except when it has the graphic glitch..

Some people may pick this TV apart as there are certainly shortcomings compared to top of the line TVs, but at this price point this TV is great and I have no regrets. We replaced a 50" 1080 Sharp TV, and this was a dramatic improvement in all aspects. It is clearer, brighter, and more detailed. If this is your first 4k TV and/or tend to buy budget TVs like me, you will be impressed with how great this TV looks.
We use streaming services for all of our watching and the Roku feature has been great. Because of Roku and the ARC connection (sends and returns signal to our receiver), we have gone from 3 remotes to one most of the time. Video games also look spectacular and have no noticeable lag.
A couple of notes which may sound like criticism but they're really not at this price. First, this TV is not the brightest in the world, although it's still above average in this price range and dramatically better than older TVs or the TCL 4 series. It is NOT noticeable in 95% of situations and should not deter most people from buying this TV, but can potentially lead to two problems: First, if you have a very bright room, this TV may be a bit washed out compared to brighter (i.e., more expensive) TVs. Also, it doesn't really get bright enough for HDR content. When HDR kicks on (like with some content on Disney+), there doesn't seem to be much difference, and it should look noticeably better. That being said, it still looks fantastic, but if you really want HDR content to look it's best, you'll need a brighter TV. FWIW, the next line of TVs up (TCL 6 series) are considerably brighter and should display HDR perfectly.
Second, we did not keep this TV in the out-of-the-box settings. There is a certain TV rtings website (oops, did I spell that wrong?) that has settings suggestions to improve picture quality. We watch TV in "Movie" mode most of the time unless we're watching sports and keep the Playstation in "Game" mode. I did have to download the Roku app to deep dive into the TV settings to improve the brightness when watching HDR content.
The last thing I have to say is my only actual criticism. This TV periodically freezes for a few seconds then reboots, which takes a couple minutes. It happens maybe once every week or two. It's not a big deal, but does give me some trepidation about this TV potentially bricking itself in the future.

I bought this TV after reading a Cnet review recommending it as best overall, and of course going through the customer reviews here. I normally adjust color and brightness on new TVs but that was unnecessary for this one. I was wowed by the outstanding picture right out of the box. Crisp, clear, great color. Sound is surprising. Good stereo separation, clean without distortion. If I didn't already have a sound bar I might not have bought one. Of course the sound bar has better sound, but only incrementally. The Roku part was simple to set up, but then I've set up a number of standalone Roku devices. The first thing (before Roku setup) was the TV scanning its HDMI ports for other devices and asking me to identify them. It's great that -- since the Roku screen appears at TV startup -- I could put my cable box and Blu-Ray player as the first two choices on the screen. Also of note is that the TV setup options are integrated into the Roku options menu. So the Roku remote really is the only remote you'll need unless you choose your cable box, disk player, game console etc., when of course you will need the remotes for them. And since you'll want to turn off the TV speakers for a sound bar, you'll need the sound bar's remote to change the volume or mute a program.
In a word: awesome!

I have several TCL series 4 TVs which are excellent for the value but I decided to replace my living room TV with a TCL series 5 and I can tell you I did not go wrong. I have a high dollar 4K TV for a theater room that is also 240hz and this TCL series 5 is actually comparable which is all the more amazing at the price point which I paid for the TCL which was about a 1/4th. With the price of the TCL and the numerous customization features for picture and audio and this being a Roku TV which is so easy to use I decided that it deserved a five star review especially considering the lower price. One other thing that prompted a five star rating is that a PlayStation 4 or a Xbox One X all look amazing on it with zero to little lag that I can tell, and the colors really pop out.

Hey it's been a while since we bought a new TV, the last "new" TV was in 2005 and it was the Dell 32" Plasma TV --- well that one died a few years ago and we got a yard sale insignia 48" - it was "ok", but it was time for an upgrade. I read a bunch of reviews and picked this 65" TCL - very pleased with everything about it. Go ahead and get one you won't be sorry - for the price, features and quality ! A+++

Look, when you're buying a Honda you don't compare it to a Mercedes.
This TV is 4k, it's got ROKU built in, dolby vision is a nice bonus for the money.
I ended up replacing with a QLED Samsung, but I have the nicest bedroom tv money can buy.

I had mixed feelings about this TV at first, because the HDR upscaling makes most content look like you're looking through a window, not watching recorded media.
That may sound strange, but seeing that much detail took a little getting used to. I like it now, but at the beginning, it was a little disconcerting.
The other thing I like is the built in Roku, and I have the Roku app on my phone so I can use it as a remote. Surprisingly, my phone works better as a remote than the one that came with the TV. I don't even have to point it at the TV for ir to work.
Colors are excellent, blacks are consistent, and detail is easy to make out even in the darkest scenes.
I paid $549 for the 65", and it was a good buy. I already have a 32" TCL Roku TV that's been on non stop for 2 years. I hope I get the same or better life from this big ol' screen.

My first 4K tv and my first 65”. Best Buy matched the price. I feel it is a great tv. Great picture, great sound, easy set up. I love the Roku setup which was very easy since we had the Roku stock on the previous tv. Other people comment on the sound quality, but the sound is much better than the Toshiba that this set replaced.
Comes on quickly and is very easy to navigate. I found that I actually got even more antenna channels with this tv.
The only thing I do not like is the 4K view. It has the soap opera effect. I think the same would be true for all the lower priced sets. It is very easy to turn off the effect and the picture goes right back to a normal picture.
This is by far the best tv I have ever owned.

This is my first time buying this brand but it was worth it. I was afraid since it is a Roku TV that I would only be able to get Roku options but that's not the case. It can run as a normal TV (Cable TV) but has the options of other platforms too i.e. Roku, Apple TV, Netflix, Prime. I'm impressed with the picture quality, easiness with set up, inputs, and sleek look. The picture quality is excellent and it's super fast in turning on, etc. I love it!

I had previously purchased a small TCL Roku TV and was pleased with how it functioned. So I decided to get the 65" model when I moved and needed a big screen television. It has not disappointed! The price point is excellent and I was told by the installers that they seldom have repair calls for TCL televisions. I definitely recommend this television as well as other TCL Roku televisions.

I bought this for my bedroom since the layout makes the tv pretty far from my bed I wanted a bigger tv. I didn't want to spend too much so I decided on this one. The picture way exceeded my expectations for the price. I have 2 other TCL tvs and it's pretty close to the 8series. If you don't want to spend a thousand on a tv then this is probably the best option.
