Better than the Sony I was looking at!!!

After a month of research it came down between the TCL 5-series and the Sony X80K both in 65". The store demo of the Sony was absolutely gorgeous and I must say for a direct lit panel I was very impressed. However, I wanted full array LED dimming which the TCL 5-series has. Unfortunately the TCL 5-series was not on display for demo purposes. For $250 less the TCL offered more in terms of picture quality...on paper that is. I knew based on all the reviews I've read and all of the YouTube videos I've watched that it was a gamble whether or not one would get a great looking panel or one that was bust hence the term the "panel lottery" After pacing around the store for 20 minutes, I ended up purchasing the TCL knowing that BB had a 15 day return policy if I was not happy with this it. When I got home I nervously set it up hoping I had made the right choice. Overall setup, from unboxing, installing feet, updating software, and tweaking the picture took about 30 minutes. I then went to NETFLIX and started watching one of the latest nature shows narrated by the British fellow and boy I knew right away I had won the "panel lottery"! The picture was beautiful! The colors were so vibrant and the blacks were inky and dark. It blew away that Sony X80K that was on display at BB!!! My previous TV was a Samsung 50" plasma from 2013. This 65" TCL is huge for my medium sized living room. But after a week of watching it I got used to the size. The QLED technology is getting so good it's giving OLED a run for their money. TCL in my opinion is the best value for your money. I paid $499.99 for this TV as opposed to an OLED that's 3 times as much. I am very happy with this purchase and I highly suggest this TV to anyone who wants an awesome picture quality on a budget! The sound on the TV is not very good. I am running an optical cable out from the TV into my Denon receiver. And lastly I will say if you don't want the "soap opera" effect you'll have to go into the settings and turn it off in the "motion" portion of it. I hope this review helps you in making a decision in getting this TV! Happy shopping!

I think I made a great biy with this LG QLED 65" set. I read a lot of reviews with most complaining of the slow, aggravating, internet interface to access tons of programming. I sensed that to be the case when going through the initial setup but didn't care since I bought this for the picture. I use a 4k Max Firestick for streaming content and this LG delivers a great picture with deep blacks, fast refresh, vibrant color, and 4k clarity (all with just a little tweaking with tv settings, of course). I recommend this set heartily if you bring your own streaming service. I also used an optical cable to my Denon receiver for outstanding sound.

Picture quality is fantastic for the price. Sometimes the apps, especially VUDU, will sign you out requiring signing in to watch your stuff, but in my opinion, that's a minor inconvenience in the 2020s with smart phones. Speaker sound is as expected for modern TVs. Get a sound bar too.

Been a solid TV. Occasionally (very rarely) will lose sound on my HDMI input. Hard resetting it off and back on fixes the problem immediately. Good, bright picture. Survived a move. Sound is adequate but always would recommend a sound bar if you’re a big fan of audio as I am.

This TV is an awesome upgrade from my 65” 4k ONN tv. Watching movies and playing ps5 looks great. The colors are vibrant and crisp. The TV can get really bright/dark with the local dimming arrays making HDR movies/games really stand out. I was used to the Roku user interface but I have no problem using this TV. I don’t think I could get anything nicer than this unless I spend $1000+.

After doing a bunch of research, this was supposed to be far and away the best value for your money. So far I don’t disagree. I have an older (by about a year or so), lower-grade TCL in my bedroom. I’ve always felt like the UX was slow but thought it was my internet connection. I’ve since moved and realized it’s actually the TV. So far the experience has been the same, even with this new TV with the updated Google TV os. It can take up to 30 seconds for a show/movie to start streaming from clicking on the Home Screen. The other thing I find annoying is the buttons on the remote that open apps directly. They’re not really necessary, and so far 100% of the time I’ve pushed them it’s been by accident in the middle of a show/movie, and then it takes me at least 30 seconds to get back to what I was watching. Overall, though, I can’t complain. The picture quality seems solid (I’m not super picky about that), and I dig saying “Hey, Google, turn off the TV” when I’m leaving the room and don’t feel like searching for the remote.

Goggle TV OS needs to be fixed

Had this TV for a little over 9 months. I really like the picture quality of this 4K TV. But the Google OS on this TV is full of bugs. Turn on the TV and it takes about 8-10 secs before you can do anything. Once on the Google home screen. You start moving down through the menus and it bounces you right back to the top of the screen. And this happens more than one time. You can click on a APP and it jumps to the top menu. I would of thought TCL would of fixed this problem by now. Isn't that why TCL had BB pull these from the shelves for a short period of time. The Android OS on my 65" U8G is so far and I have no problems with it. I waited all this time to post a review hoping the OS would improve with a firmware update. But I guess that is not going to help since this TV is about 2 years old.

I bought this tv and it came pre opened, which it wasn't open box priced, and it also had an imaging error with a single vertical line. The image quality sans that line was quite good however but it was enough issues to return it so I did. The best buy service was fantastic. They came out, took the old one from my car but unfortunately didnt have the same model so I opted to upgrade to the series 6. I paid the difference in price which I'm extremely glad i did because its picture quality was noticeably better. They opened the box and made sure the tv was fully operational before they loaded it in the car for me. I recommend spending the extra money for the 6 series over this one.
