TCL 635 Breaks the Value Equation
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The 2020 TCL 65R635 not only offers a stunning picture and an intuitive streaming app interface (Roku), it is an amazing value as well. It’s really hard to believe that you can this kind of performance for under $900. You can read the reviews by professionals who have just gone gaga over this unit, so I won’t repeat here. However, many buyers may not be aware of the iPQ calibration app. Once loaded on your phone, it syncs with the TV and you simply take two sets of 6 pictures of the screen to calibrate the unit. The change is obvious and results in a much improved picture. If TCL made a version that was close to 90” or larger, and was able to keep the same value equation (under $8000) I would be tempted to toss my 1080p front projector in my home theater. Yes, it’s that good!

Great TV/Poor remote
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.this TLC 65" was easy to install and setup. It provides an excellent picture that is bright and easy to read. The remote control batteries were bad and the control was intermittent, but a single call to TLC tech support resulted in the shipment ( via FedEx) of a replacement remote(without batteries) that arrived in a couple of days. The indication that the sound is muted is only momentary so you must activate the Mute button if there is no sound.

Living room TV
||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a good TV we put in our living room. It has one strange thing that "knocks" it to a 4*. Something inside seems to expand as it warms up and will make a suprisingly loud pop occasionally. However, this has not impacted the function. It does all it should, my wife gets to watch Gilmore Girls (over and over), my daughter gets to watch 14 shows on Netflix (over and over), and my son gets to watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse (over and over). And when there is a big game on, I get to watch it...on the TV in the office.

Tips: Responsive Remote; Soap Opera Effect
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just bought this TV. Never heard of this brand but I'm highly impressed with it. Initially I was disappointed because the remote was very unresponsive. It almost became an immediate deal breaker and I was tempted to return the TV. But I accidentally discovered a fix that makes the remote highly responsive and snappy. You MUST turn off "Device connect." Device connect being enabled allows you to pair your remote with Roku Voice Remote and Roku speaker. It allows you to screen mirror from other devices. This being enabled make the TV and/or both the TV and remote sluggish and unresponsive. Disabling this feature will instantly cause your remote to be responsive as it should be, especially at this price point. My guess is that the remote is not longer having interference or connectivity issues caused by constant signal of some sort. At any rate, to disable this feature go to System > Advanced system settings > Device Connect > Disable "Device connect". I also recommend disabling the following, if enabled (all found in System settings or a sub-category in System settings): - Control by mobile apps - Control other devices (CEC) - disable all things listed - Fast TV start - Auto power savings One thing about TV's with such great picture quality as these is that they come with what is known as a "Soap Opera Effect" out of the box. This is great for sports, news and other similar content, but it can make watching movies, commercials a terrible viewing experience. This is because it affects the way pixels are interpreted and displayed on the TV. It removes blur, and other effects that were intended for the content. And instead of a cinematic look, it'll look like behind the scene footage or soap opera'ish. To fix this, while watching TV press * on your remote to open the TV Settings. Then, go to Picture Settings > Picture Mode and choose "Movie." This will make your movies, TV shows, commercials and more look like the creators intended (and as you expected). As well, you may or may not want to adjust the Color temperature (mine is set to Normal) and other settings. Color temperature is the only setting I've found to be worth changing (for me). When watching Sports you may want to change the Picture Mode as well, as this makes action visible, removes blur, increases contrast, and allows you to see all of the action in great quality. Sports (and even concerts) are mostly live, and this can provide an immersive experience. Again, a great TV. Hope these tips help! Enjoy!

Great picture, no web browsing, remote horrible.
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Beautiful and crisp color, good sound, we don't use it for gaming so no thoughts on that. Easy setup, the iphone and android Roku up work fine to control it. I added an antenna and it scanned and found about 30+ stations that way, easy. Downside, I was amazed to find out it does not support web browsing, I would have NEVER bought it knowing that. And the remote dies within 1-2 days of installing new batteries every time, it just sucks them dry, so I'm trying to get through to Geek squad that we spent about $200 on for 5 year plan. Horrible BestBuy website for support, total waste of time.

Despite original tv issues ended up Great.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The specific model I received had remote control issues and it was kind of possessed as after I turned it off it would randomly turn back on by itself. I know that sounds crazy but it is the truth. Best Buy Manager greatly assisted me in a exchange for the same television and installation this time and they saw the same issues I had on my original tv but the second tv was GREAT. No issues. Great quality and with the sound bar from TCL I purchased it made some streaming concerts I ordered sound and look amazing, If I did not have the one tv with so many issues I would have given it 5 stars.

GREAT TV and incredible warranty service
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This TV was purchased after considerable research. The picture is exceptional and maybe the Mini-LED make the difference. I can see no blooming and dark contrast is incredible. This was purchased at the outlet as an "Open Box - Excellent condition" item. The pick-up was easy, efficient and quick. However, after about 3 weeks, the TV developed and problem. The bottom 2/3 of the screen had many vertical lines which made the display nearly unwatchable. I contacted Geek since I purchased the extended coverage. They sent me to the manufacturer. (BE AWARE THAT GEEK COVERAGE DOES NOT BECOME EFFECTIVE UNTIL AFTER THE MANUFACTURER WARRANTY LAPSES.) The TCL customer service was very helpful and the process was very easy to complete. I had to send pictures of the problem and the serial number label. (The serial number showed as not being valid but they honored the purchase anyway.) The replacement order was very quick. I received a NEW replacement and they took away the old TV. I was and am a very happy camper.

A little bit of blooming
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It is a very nice and bright tv. The Roku is really nice and the Dolby Vision and Atmos work great. It does have some blooming but it’s not bad.

Crazy value proposition
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've become something of a TCL fanboy over the past few years. This is my second set of theirs. I upgraded from an earlier-model 6-series in order to get the benefits of QLED, the improved dimming array, the peak brightness improvements, and the eARC port. This is not the best TV money can buy, but it's gotta be among the best TVs that can be bought for this little money. I mean the value proposition this set represents is outrageous. The most obvious improvement over my older set is, no surprise, the black level performance. The dimming array helps enormously to control blooming and halos, uniformity on my panel is great, and solid peak brightness makes for a terrific HDR experience. I have some nitpicks about the TV's software. Not the Roku TV interface - that's great. But managing settings for content type is a pain. As far as I can tell, you have to be actively playing the SPECIFIC type of content you want to control settings for in order to access the relevant menus. It also forces you to change every setting for each independent type of content: you can't tell the TV that you want every type of content to be processed using the same picture settings. This made for a very annoying setup process: fire up standard HD content, set picture how you want; fire up HDR content, set picture how you want; fire up SD content, set picture how you want... It would be so much better if there was one centralized menu that let you manage those profiles without having to have that kind of content on screen (or, even better, impose a universal standard). I sorta understand that they want you to be able to see the effect of changes in real time, but still. That said, this is a process you only need to experience once, maybe twice in the life of the set. So as annoying as it was, it was also a few annoying minutes out of what will be hundreds of hours of usage of the set. Not exactly the end of the world. Apart from that, the software is great. The Roku interface is, you know, Roku - it's a streamlined, very usable streaming service, and having that built into the set means that the TV itself is handling 90% of my content. No worries about whether the streaming device I'm using will pass an Atmos signal through...I know that the TV can and will give me HDR, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos as I play it. This new model also runs much more quickly than my older one, which again is no surprise given several years of processing advancements. It boots faster, menus are smoother, and the whole thing feels much snappier than my older one. So, great TV...and again, look at that price. I mean LOOK at that price! If you've got OLED money to burn, sure, go get one of those - but otherwise, it's impossible to ignore the bang for buck here.

Hard to beat for the price
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Amazing how far TV's have come in such a short time. Paid double the price for a Vizio a little over 4 years ago and this TV is better. The Vizio is still working fine and has a great picture, but the TCL gets brighter, has better blacks, and has more pop.

So far I love it.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far so good. Picture is great and the TV gets very bright. Upscaling has been great and 4k content is great. I don't use my sound bar because the TV sounds very good without one. Looks great with the PS5. There is some blooming but not to bad. I did have a problem with the speaker once just did a system restart.

Great TV for normal viewing
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted a really good 65" tv. All the reviews rated the LG CXPUA as best but I just didn't want to spend that kind of cash- $2000. I didn't need the very best as I'm not a videophile but I wanted a bright clear picture for streaming movies and watching TV. That's what I think I got for half the price of the LG. Is the difference worth $1000? I don't know, I didn't buy the LG but I think for normal viewing probably not for me. I've read some reviews saying that QC has been hit and miss on these. I've had mine almost a month now and haven't had any problems. I did have a minor glitch during setup that didn't pair remote properly so my remote was only working about 50% of key presses until I figured it out. I re paired the remote and it works perfectly. Also sometime I notice some motion artifacts during fast action scenes but that may be the source or possibly my settings. My son is the gamer and said it's a little laggy with his PS5 but again, we may not have the settings correct yet. Hope this helps you decide. I'm pretty happy with it so far. Ymmv

Good tv.
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This TV has been amazing for the time I’ve had it. As of recently though I’m starting to notice what appears to be maybe dead pixels on the right side of the display. Tv also seems to get hot now and powers off randomly. Not much I can do for support on a discontinued model. Would really enjoy the new QM8 models.

Great tv, QLED mini as good as OLED. Remote sucks!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Tv has an amazing picture. Roku interface is flawless after update. Downsides, brighter than the sun, needed to turn brightness down to 25%. Also the remote sucks. Swapped the remote & paired with my other roku premier RF remote & it works like a dream. Blinking indicator with every click under the TV needs an option to disable, so annoying. Still glad I returned my LG Nano & got this one instead. Way better! TCL mini LED looks better than OLED.

WoW TCL! Great Tv
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was my first 4k tv purchase and i wanted to find the best bang for the buck. All the reviews and searches pointed to this tv. All i can say is WoW! The picture quality, build quality, and Roku are easily worth that price and then some. Yes, you can spend more and get a little better picture but how much are you willing to pay for a "little better"? (Sony 900h was $1300 at the time i got this) Pro: Very Bright Amazing picture Easy OS(Roku) Quality build materials Simple remote Price Con: There is some "blooming" on text on dark screens and the blacks get crushed a little. The average person wont notice or care about this. I was able to use a discount code when i bought. So i got this tv for around 810$ and added the ext geek squad warranty. So for under 1k i got this TV and 5yr warranty. I feel like i won.

TCL 6 series- couldn't be happier
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Couldn't be happier! After taking back 2 televisions from other brands, due to defects and underwhelming performance, I am blown away! The picture quality is amazing. If the screen got nay brighter I think my retinas would burn out. A previous TV was brought back due to the fact of all settings being adjusted to as bright as possible, we were still squinting to see in bright daylight. This TCL is kept on medium 90% of the time. Only going up to bright (which isn't even the highest setting) in the brightest of daylight, and usually down to dark at night. Once in a while it is a little slow to switch between live tv, netflix, youtube, etc... Such a minor complaint, but the only thing that I can find as a slight negative. So glad this is the TV we ended up with!

Great value
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this TV to upsize the 55 i TCL I already had in my living room. It has a great picture and has all the high end audio features of TVs with a much higher price point. I now own 3 TCL TVs and think they are the best smart TVs for the money. One big difference between the 55 in and 65 in is the weight. I could easily hang the 55 in myself, but not the 65in, It easily weighs 20 lb more.

Great for gaming and inexpensive
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love my TCL 635. It has the picture quality of a more expensive TV and gaming features to boot. Low input lag, VRR, and 120hz native panel. I feel ready for PS5 without having to break the bank.
