Too unstable to recommend

Still suffers from software instability despite claims that firmware updates would fix it, it crashes at random requiring a reboot at least once every 3 or 4 days. Slow to start and respond. Sling TV is just awful on this, it almost always requires three or four attempts before it will successfully start. I'd recommend the roku version any day. Picture though is great!

My dad needed a tv so figured I’d give him my old one and grab this for the hdmi 2.1 support. While again the panel itself is outstanding for the money, the OS is hot garbage. I had zero issues with my previous Roku version. And don’t think you can just plug in an external dongle if you don’t like it like I did, the software causes sound bar to go out requiring a tv restart, settings don’t save sometimes etc etc. I will give it a month or so to see if they update it and if not, I may return the set. Google TV would be fine, im not too picky if it just wasn’t so buggy.

Poor HDR brightness and performance.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Dolby vision looks terrible with all sources I tried. Dim and not a good picture at all. HDR10 is fine with some sources but extremely dim and actually unwatchable with others. Amazon prime video HDR10+ is so dim through the internal app that it is literally unwatchable. It is slightly better using the Prime video app on my 4k blu-ray player but still very dim. HDR10 from a 4k blu-ray disc is the only HDR source that looks decent on this TV and even then there is a lack of headroom and punch with the brightness for a mini LED TV. With gaming I would say this TV performs well but there is always a strange effect like the TV is dimming the peak brightness down. It's sort of like the ABL on an OLED TV but the brightness keeps wavering slightly on a scene to scene basis. Even within the same scene happens. Like the TV will show you a bright highlight then dim down after a second or two. Very weird. It seems like the way the TV works and not a defect with my unit. I have spent a lot of time looking through the settings and there is no workaround that I can find. Will probably be exchanging this. It's a shame because the black Friday price was great.

Forget TCL if you will need technical support!

TCL used me as their extended workbench to fix the WIFI issue on the TV for more than 10 days!. Except fixing the problem, they did everything else. They did not make any attempt to fix the issue. However, BestBuy treated my complaint with a real sense of urgency and replaced the TV. My recommendation : Buying from BestBuy - a resounding "yes". Staying away from TCL technical support - "absolutely". The second TV is working well so far. Keeping my fingers crossed. Another warning; Take all the reviews on this TV with a pinch of salt!
