Google vs. Roku?

Just moved into a new house and needed a large tv. I wanted another TCL and in doing my research found they now offer a Google Tv and Roku interface. I was worried after being a solid Roku guy I may be disappointed with the Google product but felt that is going to be their interface in the future going forward. I found I am very pleased with Google TV as my choice. Very good tv!!

You should not have to worry about “burn-in” that is possibly found in other TVs. Great picture but has some irritating shortcomings

There was no middle ground laggy and stuttering or smoothed but prone to flickering. Fast moving content like sports and action movies were almost unwatchable for me. For some this won’t be a big issue but for me it drove me crazy. Google TV operating system is good. Sound was better than expected. The design is a bit bulky and heavy.

I thought I was buying a new TV!

When I open the box the feet fall on the floor. The remote, power cord and screws for the feet were in a plastic grocery bag! The previous owner didn’t even bother to reset the tv, still signed into the streaming apps. I’d give the tv a 4/5 stars and Best Buy 0/5 if I could.

The picture is decent and the price is good. Now for the problems. It's not a 120hz refresh. They say it is, but whenever you place it into 120 mode hooked to a PC, it constantly flickers. I tried non-cert 2.1 cable, cert 2.1 cable and optical on both TVs in both 2.1 ports, nothing solved the flicker problem. I actually installed a clean version of windows on my pc, updated all firmware. No dice. Another annoying feature, the TV will lose signal if you turn it off and back on again while hooked to a PC. You have restart everything every time. VRR does not work correctly, don't even try. Now, if you think you're not hooking it up to a PC or console and you are just going to use the Google TV, forget about it. That software Implementation on these TVs feels like a school project that was rushed to meet a summer break. TLDR: 120hz is no go, you have to play musical reboots to get an image, it's better to buy a telescope and watch your neighbor's TV than use the software on this thing.
