Excellent picture and good sound
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a major step up from my Visio E series. Due to COVID-19, I wasn't able to do side by side comparison with other TVs, so I bought sight unseen. I purchased based on the CNET recommendation as this ws the best picture quality you can get in a non-OLED TV. www.cnet.com/news/best-tv-for-2020-lg-tcl-more-compared/ . If you read the review carefully, they gave the award to Vizio, but only because they felt the Visio was a better value. This TV seems to go on sale for $999 every few weeks. The TV is massive in scale, and very heavy. I needed to fold down the 2nd and 3rd row seats in my minivan to get it home. The TV is very bright. I have it set to darker mode for all inputs, and it is super bright in dark rooms. The Roku interface is easy to use. I was able to pair it to a different Roku remote that allows private listening from wired headphones into the remote. The remote is RF, so no need to point the remote right at the TV. The built in speakers are really pretty darn good. Super clear, and seem to to provide a reasonably full sound and sound imaging. I have found two little issues. The first is with the ARC capability. It seems to have problems detecting when my AV system is powered on. When my AV receiver is on, then it cuts the built in speakers and just uses the AV, which is perfect. The problem is that if you then turn everything off when you turn the TV back on it still tries to use the AV and not the internal speakers. We have found that if you power on the AV and then power it back off (with the TV running), then the TV detects that the ARC port is off and it goes back to the internal speakers. I think I will raise this as a bug with TCL. My other complaint is that it doesn't have a Bluetooth transmitter. Finally, the power cord is pretty close to the left side. If you have the TV just on a wall, it might be visible from the side. Similar issue with the input/output ports on the other side.

Awesome TV. Only one small nitpick.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's only been a week. But I love this TV. I got it during a "deal of the day" promotion for $1k. It has been a dream watching content on here. Roku is awesome and easy to use. Has plenty of support for alot of apps. The only thing is when I'm watching Dolby vision content on Netflix it stutters about every 5 minutes and has to buffer. Research online points to problems with the most recent (Jan 2020) update to Netflix app, specifically on TCL's Roku platform. Maybe it will be fixed with the next update. But everything else about this TV is awesome. Deep blacks and bright colors. It feels like it is quality built. And I love the center stand since my entertainment center is not very wide. It is heavy! 80 lbs. Definitely need 2 people to set it up. If you can find this on a deal it's worth it! Maybe not at $2k but for $1,000-1,500, for a 65", this TV is the bomb! And when Netflix is fixed, I will change to 5 stars. But in the meantime, a TV stick will stream Netflix fine.

This is the TV you want! Amazing picture and sound
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I rarely write reviews but this TV is amazing!!! I bought a Vizio P series at the associates recommendation and after 3 weeks it died, and honestly I'm glad it did, the TCL 8 series picture quality is so much better, this TV has sound quality that is amazing, (better then some college parties I have attended), I thought my soundbar was on it is so good! The Roku interface is so easy to use, my 6 year old can use the voice command remote. The display is so bright and colors so crisp I actually decreased the brightness and I have it in a rather bright room. This TV is the best TV I have ever purchased and for the price, picture and sound quality. I would definitely purchase another TCL 8 series if I needed another TV. Even if it takes time for delivery this TV is worth it! Downloaded the YouTube app and spent a lazy night just watching music and concert videos, amazing! Sports look like you are actually there, the TV receiver for over the air programming works awesome and is very easy to program. If you can't decide on a TV, this is the one you want!

As good as any OLED!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this Roku TV. The interface is easy to use. The quality of the picture is spectacular! This is the 8 series, and I feel it is as good as any of the OLED TVs, even though this is QLED. The colors are bright and natural, and the black is as though the TV was turned off. I am so happy with this purchase.

Good colors, contrast, and dark fields on TV
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Initially thought price was high for TCL brand, but so far I am happy with its performance. Needed 65 inch TV for a bright room (OLEDs not optimal in bright areas) and the addition of ROKU to the TV makes it very convenient. No complaints with picture quality so far, colors are bright, even in bright room with skylight. Best Buy installation at site of previous wall mount was flawless and the techs were knowledgeable.

Not your Dad's TCL TV
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These TVs likely will not be around much longer until the 2020 model is out but these are AWESOME TVs. Oled like blacks and contrasts with amazing HDR and Dolby Vision support. Native 120Hz refresh and do not be confused with the TCL TVs in the past you walked by at your big box store. This is high end look, feel and feature platforms that are nothing like budget TVs. Best of all is you get Roku built in and you don't need to fear being abandoned 2 years later. Support for next gen consoles and eARC receivers. Look for these on sale if you are lucky as their MSRP is a little high. I have 3 (a 75" and two 65") Series 8 TVs and say you will not be disappointed.

Great Open-Box Experience
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great overall picture after a few months of testing movies, sports, and gaming. This TV gets super bright and requires the best of the best HDMI 2.0 cables. I had to use 8k 48Gbps cables to enable 4K 60 + HDR without glitching. Overall tweaking the presets gets the colors very natural yet vivid. The Roku interface is passable but the apps on a dedicated device still work quicker and with better remotes. The motion could be a little better, but I will ultimately be using this for my PS5 and Nvidia Shield. I got an open box deal and this was an amazing value I would recommend. Mine was basically brand new with a good panel and flawless frame. It did not have a remote or a stand but I'm using a logitech harmony and wall mount anyway.

Best TCL TV so far now enhanced with HDMI eARC
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Before I purchased the 8 Series, I had already owned the 6 series (55R617) for our master bedroom and was really impressed with the picture quality for the money. The 8 series kicks it up another notch with seemingly better contrast, brightness, and richer colors. The black levels are probably as close as you get without using OLED technology. If you’ve owned a Roku TV before, the 8 series will be very familiar with simple and intuitive controls and menus - I’m a huge fan of Roku and think it’s the best operating system for a smart TV. Lastly, TCL recently updated the 8 series with Air Play and HDMI eARC - for those of you who also own a Sonos Arc, this is a fantastic feature since you will now have the ability to fully optimize Dolby Atmos.

Best TV for the Money!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We purchased this 65" TCL 8 Series a week ago. Was a little hesitant purchasing an "off brand" to what we've had in the past, but i can say this TV is all it's hyped to be. Wasn't able to see in the store due to Covid, but did a lot of research online and read reviews and decided it was worth the risk. Couldn't be happier! Most our TV experience is from streaming, and there was very little tweaking to the picture settings to get the most out of it. Had a nice LG 55" that we liked in the past, but the edge lit flashlight experience was getting annoying on dark movies. This completely fixed that issue for us! Really deep blacks and awesome color! We'll get a soundbar this week to complete the theater experience, but tv speakers are fairly decent. We were also used to the Roku experience so made for an easy transition to the operation of the TV. As long as it keeps working and lasts a long time, I see no reason to upgrade any more. Got $750 off on sale, which I thought was great, and then a week later got another $250 off due to a special One Day sale that they had this featured on! Price was fantastic!!

Solid 4K TV
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’m not Audio/Visual fanatic but from what I can tell this is a solid 4K TV. Moved up from a HD Vizio E series model that was 7 years old. Sure there are a few areas were it doesn’t get a 5 star rating but then again this isn’t a top level TV. Pictures is super clear, colors are very vibrant and the blacks are overall really good. Required a little tweaking to get things to this level but it wasn’t hard. Ingest issue I have come across was getting things setup correctly between my AVR and the TV so that the setting took and didn’t get reset when I switched inputs on my AVR (AVR connects to my Tv on input 1 and all devices connect to my AVR).

Great for the right price.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Picked this up when it was on sale for 1000 as my first really nice tv and I have to say it works great. With the roku built in it can stream just about anything and the interface is smooth and responsive. I’ll also really appreciate I can turn it on with my google home. I’m not a cinephile, but even I noticed a big difference from my last TV. Picture wise I love it and every time I throw on HDR content I’m pleased with how the picture looks even for dark scenes. Up until this TV I never understood what the hype about 4K was but now I’m sold. All in all if you can get this tv for 1000 or less it’s well worth it and I think is about as close as QLED can get to OLED.

Just fantastic!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had a 2019 TCL 6 and a LG B9 OLED to compare and this TV holds its own very well. 4K HDR or Dolby Vision look great. Unlike the 6 it needs very little tweaking. Normal settings everywhere are just fine. Good enough speakers that I have delayed a couple weeks setting up my surround after moving. As usual the Roku response to the remote is pretty terrible and doesn't travel far. Works great with both Alexa and Google Home. Alexa found it right away and controls on, off, volume and mute. I don't have live channels so can't change channels. I got it at half price so what a bargain too. OLED like perfomance and brightness with no burn-in worries!

Decent Flagship TV...
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Fantastic Television from TCL. I really like OLED technology, but did want to pay that high price to join that elite group. With this Mini Led backlight technology and a great sales price. I was sold. For a flagship, TCL could have offered more like HDMI 2.1, VRR and THX Gaming which they added to the 6 Series, and maybe a more premium Roku remote control. But it does have all the many features I wanted like HDR, Dolby Vision, and Atmos, Overall, this 4K QLED television is simply awesome and the audio is really good too. Screen uniformity is excellent also, and it's amazingly bright. TCL has another satisfied customer.

Closest thing to OLED I've seen
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I waited and waited and did my research before taking the plunge on a new TV. After owning this for over a year I still find myself being wowed with how good this picture is. The blacks are very deep and inky and all the colors just pop. Any of the backlight issues that others had seemed to have been taken care of with the software patches that TCL has pushed to the TV. I just wish there was a way to upgrade the HDMI ports to 2.1. I will definitely waiting for next 8 Series from TCL.

Wasn't impressed enough for 5 stars
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It has a really nice picture under most circumstances and I really like the tv with Roku built in. On my cable system at times during a dark scene there looks to be some issue where the dark looks like a mass of dark small squares. I figure this is something to do with the cable system as I do not see the issue on any of the streaming channels. There is also one logo that is like a sunrise around the logo that always looks odd like it is trying to move but has pixelation and with the lighting makes it look out of focus. Also have noticed under some instances the corners of the screen appear dark. This happen playing on xbox or tv or streaming. It's not a real big issue but noticeable when it happens. Other than these couple minor issues the picture is really, really good. It even improves the cable tv looks and even an SD streaming movie looks fantastic. I received this a month ago and set up was easy, but you do need two able bodied people to hang it on a stand as it is heavy. I got this on sale for $999.99 and am please with the purchase and would make the same decision again. This is the first time I have purchased a television based only on numerous expert reviews sight unseen. I normally like to at least see the display models in multiple locations before making a decision. I still feel good about the purchase, but would have reservations about any of the pricing over what I paid. At $999.99 it was a very good value. The worst part of the setup was having to input user names and passwords on all the Roku apps again.

Great Picture/Sound/Quality Roku TV
||Posted . Owned for 10 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I first encountered a TCL Roku tv while on vacation. I was amazed how great the picture quality was and how well the performance of the Roku system worked. I bought this model TCL Roku tv when my tv at home died. Before I get into details on the tv I do want to give a little plug to Best Buy. When we bought this tv at the store, we went home and unboxed it. We were super careful with it the entire time. When we unboxed it, we had it laying screen down carefully on a mat to protect it while we began working on the wall mount and it wasn't until we lifted it up to mount it that we realized the screen was horrifically damaged. We did not cause the damage and it had clearly been damaged either on its way to the store or while at the store. Either way, we immediately contacted our Best Buy and explained and they allowed us to take the tv back to them and get another one in return. They even opened the box on the new tv in the store so we could confirm the screen was fine. We were very thankful for Best Buy working with us on that. However I think after that experience, the next time I ever need to buy a tv I'm going to ask to have the box opened up in the store before I leave so I can see for certain the screen is ok and I would encourage others to do the same. We've had this TV for nearly a year now. The Roku system performs exceptionally well. It is very easy to navigate and if you ever previously had one of those Roku sticks or set top boxes it looks/feels exactly the same. It also plays nice with other devices. I own a tivo and it works just fine through this tv. You could also use other set top boxes if you wanted to. I have not used any gaming consoles with this but I'm sure it works just fine. The remote works great and is responsive with no issues. The sound quality is also fantastic. Our old TV that was about the same size but different brand; the sound was not that good. We frequently had to turn the volume up really high to hear it. This TCL tv the sound quality is great. We don't own a sound bar. It probably would add to the immersion but the sound is so good as is, I'm not racing to get a bar just yet. I have another tv in my home that is quite old, but it still works just fine. But when the time comes to replace it I fully intend to do so with a TCL Roku TV and will look to Best Buy for it!

Very satisfied
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I fretted weeks over whether to get this or Hisense H9G. Did hours of research on all customer reviews and professional reviews. Both are good, but now that I have TCL 8, here's a summary of my logic and experience: Rtings review of Hisense H9G is higher than TCL 8 series, but customer reviews are better for TCL. I chose TCL because it has a powerful processor and people said it has a great picture. In fact, the picture is great, the motion is smooth, the colors are bright. Blacks are black. Great for new 4K movies and old movies (e.g., Top Gun). Hisense customer reviews show quality issues. Several tvs went bad after a few days/weeks/months. I didn't want that to happen to me. The color skews towards blue, so the picture is cooler. I also worried about the motion smoothness since some people said that was an issue, and I assume Hisense processor is closer to that of the TCL 6, which also has motion problems. TCL 8 series is heavy. This isn't trivial if you're alone. It takes two people to set up. I'm guessing the reason is that it has an integrated sound system. The sound is better than my home system. I'm not joking, it's good. I'm not going to buy a new sound bar. This was unexpected. I might be equally satisfied with Hisense H9G, but TCL 8 was definitely not a wrong choice. Very satisfied.

Best TV for 1000$ period! 2000$?
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought it for 1000$ bucks and it’s by far the best TV ever, I own a 6 series TcL and vizio v series. It kills them! It’s not worth 2000$. ! But it’s the Best Buy period for a 1000$ . Picture quality is hands down spectacular! Deep blacks, OLED black! Bright!! Bright! Oh it’s wonderful. I love it! Best purchase ever. I have noticed stuff in movies that I have never noticed before until watching it on this tv. Buy it for 1200$ and under

I want to like this TV
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had an OLED before this, and the picture was hands down the best I’ve ever seen. Unfortunately it got image retention (burn-in) badly, and a surge knocked out the power board, so I ended up with the TCL 8 Series as the replacement. First, the colors are really good, and it’s much brighter than the OLED. The blacks are good too, but not as good as the OLED. This is where the fun ended for me. I loaded up Little Big Planet on PS4. The game has pure white loading screens, and low and behold, a major vertical banding issue. I know TCL has had notorious issues with vertical banding in many of their TVs, but for the first entry into the high-end market, I didn’t think I would be in the panel lottery for a $2,000 TV. Once you notice vertical banding and DSE (Dirty Screen Effect) you can’t unsee it. So basically I was unhappy from the very start. Also, the Dolby Vision is atrocious on this set. It’s so washed out, it’s barely watchable. HDR has the same issue on movies as well as games on the PS4. It basically looks like you are looking through a slight foggy window. TCL was also notorious for an HDR bug in their older TV lines. This is unacceptable. Best Buy is going to send me another one, but it’s still a pain to go through everything. Hopefully, everything is caused by a bad panel, and the new one will perform as other reviewers have suggested. If so, I’ll come back and edit the review.
