Coming off 2 Samsung 8 Series 4K tv’s. Had high expectations based off of media and person reviews. This TV has exceeded the expectations. Inky blacks, excellent brightness and contrast. Great motion handling. The big surprise is the sound. I could typically care less about sound on a tv, I gave a listen despite having a soundbar and the sound on this tv out performs my Yamaha soundbar even in the bass category. Didn’t expect that. That being said, buy this set for the excellent picture. It’s absolutely beautiful.

I briefly hesitated to give a 5 star review, based on one sole issue (more on that below), but I love this TV so much it deserves the 5. I researched smart tv's for about 3 months before I finally opted for this model (which was on sale for $700 off the then base price of $2000). What sold me were the reviews of the TV and especially of the ROKU platform - ease of use, number of accessible apps and how to easily install and use them. I love the ROKU platform! I have had friends over that have marveled at the picture quality as well. It is an awesome easy to use smart TV and we love it. Set up literally took minutes once I got it out of the box. Only issue was 7 days in the picture began to freeze and apps wouldn't load. I contacted TCL support which was very easy. They quickly diagnosed the problem as a power issue. It could have been the surge protector or the power board in the TV itself which made me nervous about the quality. They had me plug the TV into the wall outlet instead of the surge protector and reboot. I haven't had the problem since (about two weeks later). I bought a new surge protector and still haven't had the repeat issue. So I believe the 'power' problem was the surge protector and not the TV itself. As I said, I absolutely love my purchase and think I made the right decision. Picture quality, sound quality and ease of use is amazing, which is exactly what the expert reviewers who made this their number 1 pick said.

I picked up the 65" 8 series TCL just over a month ago, have been nothing but happy with it so far. With so many mini LED's making up this unit's backlight, it is more than capable of getting REALLY bright. Which can come in handy in certain spaces. Personally, I keep it on the second to lowest setting. Which is plenty bright for us. Picture quality is outstanding, with black levels that may not quite be on par with an OLED, but definitely approaching that kind of quality. I'd highly recommend this tv.

Overall a great TV! Picture clarity is great, color accuracy is spot on once you make some minor adjustments, and it handles most content fine without any judder or stutter. It also gets super bright, so it's awesome for bright rooms, but it's almost too bright for night watching, I find my myself having to turn down the backlight even on the darker setting. The Roku interface is super simple and gives you access to almost everything. Even the TV speakers are pretty good, and if you're in a smaller room they'll be just fine, I do have a sound bar connected to mine and the CEC works great. The only issue and what takes it from 5 to 4 stars is that it freezes, and resets itself every so often. When we first got it, it was fine then after a couple weeks it started doing it almost every day at random times. It was annoying but tolerable. There have been a couple software updates which seemed to reduce the problem, but it still does happen. I've found that turning off, and unplugging the TV for a few mins makes the problem go away for a couple weeks, then it will start happening again slowly and eventually happening with more frequency. According to the forums it seems to be an issue with TCL 6 & 8 series from this generation (doesn't happen on our other Roku TV's). Still a great TV with minor quirks. Disclaimer: I did not pay full price for the TV, got it as an open box for about 50% off so I'm a little more forgiving.

TCL has been dominating the TV market lately with its releases. The 8 Series 65" is no exception. Superb picture quality and color for a great price. Personally I got it on sale which drove the value way up but even at MSRP no other TV in the price range compares. It's one of the few that supports both HDR10 and Dolby Vision meaning only adding to that value. Minor issues with performance in terms of fluidity and motion don't detract from just how well it performs.

This is the biggest and prettiest tv, I've owned. Its very bright and Dolby vision looks great. You have to calibrate it to get the best picture. Wish it came better calibrated out the box. Dark scenes look like trash though have to turn down the brightness for them to be distinguishable. Also, wish it had a variable refresh rate for new consoles. Besides that, this is a great tv for the price.

The tv quality is excellent. The blacks look like the screen is off, and the color is great. My only issues were I was not informed that this was a demo model, and found out after driving 150 miles for it. It had not stand, remote, or even box. And I found out it's a 120hz panel but that is misleading as it can't use it. But overall, I am pleased

Got a deal of this TV for 1000$, 50% off after the regular price. Brightness and contrast of TV is spot on,blacks are deep, colors pops when you set rightly. Roku is easy and simple to use.Could have enabled air play out of box. TV speakers Sounds great and at times for regular use I dont need home theater. When compared to TV leaders products, and for the price and quality,This is my best TV I have ever owned.

The TCL 8 series exceeded exceptions. I wasn't sure how it was going to compare to my TCL 6 series and LG C9 OLED but it does an amazing job. The black levels are definitely black and best I've seen besides OLEDs. This includes the Samsung Q90 QLED. The OLED still has the advantage in shadow detail and viewing angles but the 8 series still has amazing blacks and more pop. I do think the 8 series requires more tweaks out of box but once dailed in it looks fantastic. I thought CNET had the best picture recommendation to my eye. I did Movie mode/Brighter and set backlight to 4 and contrast to 100. Depending on your room you could go darker. HDR I used the Movie mode/Brighter but kept everything else on the presets besides the motion smoothing. Overall I'm very pleased with this TV and highly recommended it. Especially at its current price.

The TV was delivered on time and in good condition. TCL is not known for high end tv's but the reviews on this were excellent and with a low price a very good deal. So far have been very pleased with the picture. off angle is not too bad. sound for a tv not too bad. Roku interface is very intuitive. For the price and great buy. Can't wait to watch live sports someday.

This TV IS AMAZING. It’s super bright and the picture is beautiful. I purchased a clearance version and for the price I couldn’t be happier. I spent months evaluating TVs and finally decided on the tcl 8-series and I am glad I did. The mini-led feature is a game changer. Blacks look great and the colors are so vibrant.

Purchased this tv due to the sale and promise of OLED type picture quality. I must say the picture quality is excellent. It's bright and the colors are vivid, once you use the app to tune it in. The sound quality is quite good for a screen this flat. For those who may not be aware, not matter the manufacturer, flat panel TV's tend to struggle when it comes to sound quality. Nature of the beast, small bezels and flat screens = no room for great speakers. Sony is actually making the screen part of the speaker, which is cool, but expensive. Blacks are not as good as OLED, not in the same ballpark really. It is better than about 90% of the LCD screens out there currently, so still a win in my book. Couple of negatives. The first being the remote being slow to respond. We have Roku devices in all of the bedrooms and we love them, however this remote is incredibly slow to respond for some reason. Tried a new set of batteries just to be on the safe side and no difference. Weird. The second is that it didn't play well with my much loved (and expensive) home theater system. If you stream using the TV's built in apps, no problem. If you use Apple TV routed through a 4k AV reciever, it begins to develop a Lip Synch issue over time. Same happened with our 4k Blu-ray player routed through the reciever. When I went straight to the tv from the devices, worked ok. Seems like the problem would be the receiver right? Nope. When I hooked everything up to a new LG CX, worked like a charm. So, it came down to the TCL vs the surround sound system, and unfortunately for TCL, the sound system cost more than the TV, so my choice was clear. Returned the TV and jumped into the deep end with the LG CX and I'm much happier...and more deeply in debt. If you're looking for a very good TV for 1k or so, you can't go wrong with the TCL series 8. Beautiful picture, good sound and the excellent Roku software. If you're hooking it up to a AV system, just be aware there maybe some issues.

Overall, this TV earns 5 stars as a great balance of picture quality, desirable features, price and design. It does have some subjective downsides, but they don't collectively add up to enough frustration to knock it down. So far, I love it! The downsides for me are: the remote control and audio. Don't get me wrong, both are good. One is familiar to folks who use Roku products. I like it, but think TCL miss an opportunity to give a unique "Series 8" feature to the remote that can set it apart from the mid-tier streaming box/stick they sell. Provide a premium version of the Roku remote (or any remote for that matter) for the top level Series 8. The audio is unremarkable, the lower volumes (4 - 1) nearly mute it. Higher volumes are clear-ish, but not great as it suffers from some, interference I guess. A plasticity vibration like sound noticable during sounds, but not distracting or overpowering. Might be worth looking into a sound bar if audio is a big selling point. I don't think it detracts from the overall experience enough to hurt my perception of this great TV.

I have had this TCL for a few weeks and I am watching more TV than I ever have in my life. The image is just, beautiful. The first thing I did was to pull up demo clips from the Dolby App and the 4K showcase app. The spatial detail just blew me away. The range of colors in the DolbyVision and HDR10 clips just blew me away. I made a point of looking at the TV from off angles and the image hardly changed. You don't have to be sitting directly in front of this TV to see it clearly. The sound is good for a (very) flat TV. I added a pair of Roku wireless speakers and now the sound is VERY good. Loud, too. I have not encountered any bugs or annoyances while using this TV. The remote is super easy to use, much more so than Apple TV and that is saying something (Apple fan boi here). Voice search from the remote works great. I can find any app I want in the channel store. If it's not there it doesn't exist anywhere. If you can tolerate advertisements, the Roku Channel app is very good for free movies.

Frequently goes on sale for $1000. Can't speak to it's value at full retail, but I don't think a better value exists at this price. The picture quality is outstanding, handles glare pretty well. Surprised at how well it displays blacks. As for the set itself, the bezels are small and doesn't look cheap. Also I could be wrong but I think a software update has optimized the default picture settings much better than how it was configured at launch so there isn't much tweaking to do. Sound quality if you aren't using a sound bar or speaker system is above average. The Roku software is nice, simple. I only use streaming services and everything was easy enough to set up. Did make a Roku account, not sure if that can be skipped but it wasn't troublesome. Overall this is a fantastic set and I haven't regretted the purchase for one second. The only thing I do miss from my old set was built in screen casting from my mobile device, but chromecast is a cheap enough accessory...no worries.

This TCL 8 series TV is an excellent bargain at the $999 price, not so much at the normal non sale price. The colors and black levels are terrific and the HDR and Dolby Vision looks magnificent. This is a great option if you want decent blacks but don't want to pay OLED prices.

TCL has been sold in Europe for years but have come to America now. I have owned Sony and Samsung and the Technology in TCL is the same quality. But this is the best I have ever owned. TV brands are made in Series levels where you get more adjustments and quality of the picture at the next level. 8 Series is the top of the line for TCL. The picture image is as close to real life as possible better than any 8k that I have seen even tho this is 4k. I have seen even the lower series of TCL and they are the same quality as Sony or Samsung too. The Roku platform is built in to each of TCL TVs which makes the ease of use better than you can imagine. You can add DVD or gaming devices right on your main screen

Its all relative one of the best pictures I have seen great color right out of the box, Roku seems to run cleaner and faster than my other Roku TV's TCL and Sharp. So compared to other high models this is a bargin, however is it that much better than the lower end 65 inch TCL's at are less than half the price, no not really. I have a 65 inch 4 series as well. Either way you can go wrong with TCL what ever series.

This is a great tv. It gets very bright, handles motion well, has inky blacks, and vivid colors. I'm not sure how bad the black crush was on this television pre update but it's not too bad. The stars do appear dim on scenes with them and maybe some are even absent. However you won't notice it if you don't have another television to compare it to. I did however have issues with DSE and a blotch on the lower right side of my panel. I decided to massage the panel and that did work to reduce the blotch by maybe 30-40%. The fact that I knew it was there still bothered me though and I returned this tv. I wanted to do an exhange but ran into several issues afterwards. Eventually I went with another television but you will be happy with this tv. Just wait on it to hit $1k.
