This TV is BRIGHT...or maybe my living room is just dark. I had to put the Backlight from "Brighter" to "Normal" to not feel like Kramer getting blasted by the Kenny Rogers Roasters sign.
Adjusting the Backlight also helped deepen the blacks.
I do see a little motion blur, but I'm still playing with the motion smoothing settings. Also, this is my first QLED TV after replacing a Panasonic plasma HDTV, so I'm still acclimating to the differences.
One thing lacking is audio out, other than a cheesy 3.5mm port.
Without audio out, there's no way to use the onboard Roku and run just the audio into an external receiver (not a sound bar, but an actual A/V receiver)...other than using a 3.5mm-to-RCA converter cable.
Overall, the picture quality is really nice.

Picture is amazing—especially for what you’re paying. There’s a game mode, the contrast is excellent, the brightness is intense if you want it to be. The smart tv software from Roku is excellent.
Drawbacks:
-there’s some input issues on HDR content where it will anticipate going from a dark “scene” to a bright “scene” by prematurely brightening the backlights before the image actually shifts...quite distracting. This only occurs with content through HDMI (more specifically, my Apple TV). I didn’t not experience this on any other TV with my Apple TV. Thankfully, there’s an Apple TV app built in so I don’t have to worry about it. Haven’t tested this with other HDR content such as an HDR blu ray player.
Overall, I’d still recommend.

The picture quality is amazing. It's insanely bright. HDR is pretty spectacular. Good looking TV also, with very small metal bezel. Very good TV for the money (watch for a deal). Best Buy delivery was on time and altogether perfect.

Never is a million years did I expect to buy a TCL. Oh well, I did and I do not regret it. When you shop at places like Best Buy, the images you see on all the TV's are dictated buy the manufacturers and are the best format to show off their displays. Many never expect to replicate those images once they get home. However, minutes after the quick setup of this TV, those same high quality images were replicated in my living room. Upgrading Netflix to their premium package is well worth the extra few dollars every month. Pair this bad boy up with a 5.1.2 sound bar with Dolby Atmos and you have a premium home theater. Add the 4K HDR Blu-ray to complete your package. I highly recommend this TV to everyone... I cannot wait to show this off to our family and friends... Take the leap! You wont regret it.

This is a great general use screen. My sample has minimal DSE and at the price it was on sale for is hard to beat. It's extremely solid and heavy... you'll need two people to set it up. Came from the 2017 5 series and it's night and day for sure but doesn't hold up compared to OLED. It also doesn't currently have any next gen HDMI features like VRR but it's supposedly still coming with software, but it doesn't have HDMI 2.1 hardware. Of note, if you happen to pair a Vizio Soundbar with it and have lip sync issues with older TCL TVs I find it no longer happens on this TV over ARC.
Also, the iOS app for whitepoint calibration is super useful. It claims my screen went from a de of 3.2 to de 1.1 and my X-rite says it's pretty close. So it's quite accurate and super bright.

Paid $999.99 before tax in June 2020. This TV had everything I was looking for: 65”, 4K, LED, 120 HZ Native.
PROS: The main features I emphasized and the styling. Audio quality was actually surprisingly decent and rivals entry level sound bars. (Although I have it hooked up to an Onkyo A/V Receiver and Sony Surround Sound and that of course blows the TV speakers away.)
CONS: Minor artifacting in high motion scenes, ROKU being ROKU, and the TV being fairly heavy because of the ‘designer base’.
Still, overall very pleased and would highly recommend over any other TV on the market at the time of purchase!

I was on the fence for years on getting a new tv. I was still on my original LCD Samsung purchased in 2006. I have waited and watched technology grow year by year. I purchased this tv and I have never regretted it. It is beautiful! Great contrast, color and gaming response. Not to mention the Roku platform. Don’t let too many reviews make you over think getting a tv like I did. I am beyond please let with the picture quality and brightness/black levels this tv gives. You have to make a few tweets out of the box but I say this is the best non OLED tv on the market.

Out of all the LCD TVs I've tried over the years this TV has come closest to being a perfect LCD TV than any other I've owned and closest to duplicating the Color Palet of my OLED B7A. However there are a couple of issues that hold the TV Back.
Negatives/Positives
1. When I first turned the TV on the black crush and HDR was horrendous. I'm not one who generally cares about, nor notices black crush. Whenever it occurs, I generally chalk it up to the content itself, not the TV. For example if I watch say Game of Thrones S8 Ep3, that episode isn't going to magically look "better" and brighter on a high "nit" count TV than it does on my Oled.
However in this case the default settings darkened the almost a 3rd of the screen. I was ready to return it right away as it did this on a LOT of content. However once I figured out the picture settings this all went away. However I never could get movies like Joker to display properly. Just wasn't sharp nor the blacks nuanced enough. But playing around with the gamma settings fixed 90% of this.
2. I'm not a picture snob, I just hate blooming. I'm someone who uses subtitles and watches movies with black bars a lot. So any bloom is distracting. This TV has no bloom at all. However, I think it has the opposite of bloom. Meaning there are times when I watch something that has star fields like Star Wars or Expanse or something and it's like you can literally see the dimming in action where there would blotches of black for a few seconds before the dimming catches it up. Once it does it's perfectly fine.
3. The settings are very obtuse and as an LG Owner annoying as you can't set your PQ unless you are already watching a program and then I could never really tell if those settings transferred from input to input and there are so many different combinations of those settings you have to keep track of. So every time I found one I liked, it seemed to get lost. I also hated the fact that all the real obtuse detail and advanced settings can only be accessed via the Roku Phone App instead of on your TV.
4. Motion is great on this TV until it isn't. There were a few instances when I watched something and the motion was noticeably bad for example the last Terminator movie was unwatchable in a lot of scenes. It was also bad on my B7A, but still more tolerable. So like black crush I generally blame content for things like bad motion, but the TV can add to it.
5. Upscaling - I do not know what people expect out of upscaling. My basic rule of thumb is garbage in, garbage out. No TV is going to take a fuzzy 480p Picture or 720p Cable stream and magically make it 4K Crisp. The best you can hope for really is that it's not going to make it worse. This TV does mostly a great job with upscaling. There were some instances when I watched streams and there was a LOT of microblocking and poor image quality. But that happened 1 out of every 7 times I watched. When it happened it was very noticeable.
6. Roku TV Platform - Just not a huge fan of the navigation or service. Everytime I try a new TV, I have to compare it to the TV I have which is the LG B7A and while WebOS is limited it's easier and faster to use.
7. The Auto Calibration App is interesting, I'm not a PQ snob so I don't know if it actually worked or not, but I absolutely love the idea of it and hope TCL continues to improve it and more TV manufacturers include something similar. Don't know why LG doesn't do it when they do have auto calibration built into their newer TVs - that can only be accessed via professional calibrators. Why lock that behind a "firewall"?
8. I never did get the TV's built in sound to work, even when I turned off my soundbar - guess it had to be completely disconnected, so never tested the supposed built in Dolby Atmos Functionality.
If I didn't have my B7A I absolutely would have kept this TV and I can't say that about any other LCD TV I've tried. It's bright, colorful, has the best HDR Implementation of any LCD TV I've seen yet and looks better than the Sony 950G that tried before and I really liked that TV. I think it's probably 1 or 2 firmware updates away from being a near perfect LCD TV. It just needs to tighten up the the dimming algorithm and some of the motion handling. If you can get this for $1,500 or better still the 75 inch for $2k (which I'm waiting for) I would recommend jumping on it.
I really hope TCL Can get the new 6 series with the 2nd generation Mini LCDs out by June.

I've had this bad boy since June 2020. I'm very happy with purchase. Having a smart TV with fast wifi and processor is a must. Apps open quickly. Im able to navigate through Roku with zero issues. 4k movies look great, Xbox one s games look amazeballz. I got this TV for $1000 online at BestBuy. One thing I will say is this TV is super bright. In a dark room it will hurt your eyes on bright setting. Next to my large living room window I have it on normal and it's plenty bright. Some reviews state the remote is plastic and cheap.. Yes, agree.... But i could care less as I use a universal remote.

Bought this TV for my mom over memorial day weekend sale... 50% off couldn't be passed up. She gave me one thing I had to ensure it had - Roku; however it was the measurements of her 1990s entertainer center where things got tricky. It's beautifully crafted, but TVs greater than 40-ish inches were few and far between in those days. As you know, all the newer TVs come with stands/feet toward the very edges of the unit itself, so when I found this one with the center mounted stand for her 46" wide entertainer center stand, we lucked out! She went from an old 40" vizio to this one and now every time I ask her how she's liking it, she can't get passed how big a difference it makes. "I can watch TV without my glasses now," she says. I've never been one for TCLs or Roku, but I have to say, the little bit I've seen on this one, it's absolutely a contender to the pricier Samsungs and LGs out there, at a more pocket-friendly price. So long as it keeps running well, I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for a large QLED TV!

I purchased this TV for $999 on sale and picked it up at my local best buy. The staff were kind enough to wrap it in plastic due to an incoming storm, which I greatly appreciated!
The box/packaging looked good and was easy to open. The stand is very easy to put together and requires only a Phillips head screwdriver.
The build of the tv is solid, the stand is heavy metal, and it looks great even before you turn it on!
The setup process was the easiest I've ever performed. The tv automatically updated to the latest version which took about 5 min or less. One interesting "feature" was that, while the tv updated, it displayed funny messages such as, “aligning solar panels” and “engaging warp drive”, which I thought was a fun touch to a normally boring process.
I immediately “calibrated” the tv by adjusting the settings for each of my inputs (Xbox, flex box) based on the recommendations on rtings.com. I plan on tweaking them later but this is a good start point.
The tv is extremely crisp. I could see every pore and hair strand on the characters of Knives Out. The colors in that movie were STRIKING. The contrast is great. It also handles quick motion such as police cars in a chase scene very well. The only thing I thought it lacked was deep blacks. However, when I watched Our Planet: High Seas, the undersea shots were so dark I actually couldn’t tell where the screen edge was in my dark living room. It actually looked like the sea creatures were floating in my living room!
For $1000, I don’t think this tv can be beat. It’s certainly not on the level of an OLED tv, but it’s easily on par or better than the Samsung Q series for a more palatable price.
If this tv is on sale, buy it!!

I spent some time researching 4k HDR tv's. I was hesitant at first in buying the TCL 8 series 65" model but went ahead an made the purchase.
This tv has exceeded all my expectations. The colors are dynamic, the Dolby vision is so natural and even the tv's dolby atmos is pretty good without a sound bar in a small room. You do need to do some tweaking and calibration with the tv but you'll be glad you did. I highly recommend this purchase.

Super TV, especially for the price (sale for around $1000) with a picture comparable to our Samsung Q90. So far having the Roku built in freed up our 4K AppleTv for use with the Samsung. The miniLEDs give amazing blacks. Color and contrast also great. Can't understand the lack of built in Bluetooth and AirPlay. support but the av receiver gets around those issues. All in all a great picture at a bargain price if you find it on sale. Never had a TCL before so went with the extended warranty which I usually skip. Very happy a month in.

I’m writing this as I can’t find much content online or via the TCL site addressing Dolby Atmos Support.
I purchased a Sonos Arc soundbar and wanted to take advantage of the Atmos Height channels. My older TV couldn’t pass through Atmos content however this tv does it flawlessly.
I’ve been able to get Dolby vision and Atmos content from the following services via the built in Roku platform.
Netflix, Amazon Prime, VUDU, Disney Plus, Dolby App.
The screen visually is bright vivid and beautiful. This tv is absolutely worth the cost.
