Customers admire the 65" Class QM8 Q-Class Mini-LED QLED 4K HDR Smart TV's picture quality, brightness, and HDR capabilities, frequently praising its excellent visuals and deep blacks comparable to OLED screens. Many appreciate the value for the price and the smooth, user-friendly Google TV interface. However, some users noted concerns regarding upscaling of lower-resolution content and motion clarity in certain situations.

This is my 1st experience with TCL TVs as well as Mini-LED QLED technology, and I have to say I am impressed. It’s out of the box performance and easy setup made for a great user experience. While its design would not win any awards the picture and sound quality, at this price point, is impressive and I would recommend it.
Unboxing was typical, the only issue was attaching the big metal stand. It comes in 2 pieces and attaches at a 45-degree angle to the back of the TV, making it difficult to align the 4 screws. There are 2 possible connection points with the lower allowing for more space for a sound bar, however these connections were covered by small bits of plastic that must be pried out to use??? As such I missed it and my soundbar would not fit under the TV – so I had to re–install base using the lower connection. Another issue I have with the base is it is very clunky and the soundbar either must sit on it (raising ends of soundbar) or set in front exposing the power/HDMI cables. Luckily the sound is so good (best I have heard) from the 4(?) built in speakers and sub-woofer that I decided to forgo my 2.1 soundbar all together - eliminating those issues.
It uses Google TV which you can ignore signing into during setup, as I did. But then I found some of the options for apps did not work – so I wound up signing into my account - and all worked well then. So be prepared to use or create an account. I have other Google TVs and I have found it to be fast, intuitive and has most any streaming app you can think of available. Also has Chromecast Built-in and supports Apple Airplay2, Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Apple HomeKit – none of which I use on a TV.
The screen colors really pop (can display 1.07 billion colors) with deep blacks and nice contrast. The TV is very bright, with full array Ultra local dimming with Up to 2,000 Peak Nits and 2,300+ Dimming Zones. As such I had no problem viewing the screen in a room filled with early morning sunlight. I did notice the screen became a little washed out when viewing from an angle greater than 45 degrees or so. Supports HDR ULTRA (Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10+, HDR10, & HLG) and IMAX Enhanced Certification. As one would expect any content using any of these formats results in a fantastic picture with premium sound.
The picture has a wide array of preset options (standard, movie, etc.) as well as “intelligent” settings such as Adaptive Brightness, Adaptive Content, Adaptive Color Temperature. Digital Noise Reduction, Noise Reduction. Picture quality is very subjective - as for me I always turn off these “intelligent” options as they just never seem to give me the consistent picture I want. While this TV was the best so far using “intelligent” settings, I still turned off most, but you can dig into these and tune the picture as you like with any combination. Watching action movies, auto racing, baseball, golf all looked good with virtually no ghosting with 120Hz. I did notice on a completely black screen the color was consistent over the entire screen – even the corners.
There are plenty of connections;
2x HDMI 2.1 (4K @ 120Hz/144Hz VRR)
2x HDMI 2.0 (4K @ 60Hz, 1x HDMI ARC/eARC)
1x USB 2.0
1x SPDIF Digital Audio Optical
1x Audio Output Headphone
RF connection (cable/antenna)
Ethernet (LAN) input
Composite input (with mini 3.5mm adapter)
RS-232C
3.5mm headphone jack
Flimsy plastic cover
All connections are on the right side (looking at screen from front) with power connection on left. No connections come directly out the back of set, making for sleeker/better wall mounting.
Supports Auto Game Mode (ALLM) with AMD FreeSync Premium Pro. I don’t game anymore but I mentioned connections to my son, who does, and he indicated the 2 2.1 HDMI connections at 120Hz should be great for gaming (allowing connection of 2 games) while still having a separate connector for eARC allowing you to also connect a soundbar. I connected a Win 10 desktop with HDMI 4K output, and it looks great on the TV with no adjustments required for size or sound.
As I mentioned the internal speakers are probably the best, I have ever heard from a TV with 10W + 10W (Speakers) + 20W (Subwoofer) - Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital + processing. There are several preset audio settings but can’t adjust treble/bass/subwoofer separately.
Bluetooth Personal Audio – I easily connected a pair of headphones and when turned on – sound from TV is automatically off. As soon as I turned my headphones off – the sound came back on through the TV. Excellent option for early/late/dorm viewing without disturbing others. You can connect to your phone as well, but I decided not to at this time.
Dual-Band 802.11ac Wi-Fi is supported so streaming should not be an issue and there is an Ethernet LAN attachment as well.
I attached a 2TB USB drive (NTFS format) and it recognized it with no issues. I played several movies (m2ts and mp4 formats at 720P & 1080P) and the picture was excellent as well as recognizing Dolby Atmos sound processing. Could also control CC, etc.
Remote has backlight and is well thought out with reasonably sized/tactile buttons. Has voice control, which I found works well. It appears to be connected to TV by Bluetooth and I used remote from over 20 feet away and the TV picked it up with no issues – even through a wall.
Wall mount is 300mm x 400mm using M6 x 12mm. TV weighs in at 50 lbs. and is 56.9" x 32.6" x 1.7" without base. 54 lbs. and is 56.9" x 34.1" x 11.7" with.
1-year limited warranty
Negatives (nitpicky to be sure)
Base has large slab of metal extending over 5 inches in front of TV.
While the sound is excellent you cannot adjust treble/bass/subwoofer – must use preset options.
The screen can be a little washed out when viewing from more than 45-degree angle.
While the design may not be the most elegant and the build quality is a tad flimsy in places - it more than makes up for it by providing high performance at a budget price. Overall, a worthy option and do recommend. I only wish I had gone bigger with the screen size!

This is my second and last TCL tv, I purchased this QM8 based off the online YouTube reviews. After 2 months of use the left side of the screen has a line / zone that flickers. TCL just does not have good quality and I have no interest in bringing tv's back in for repair. (I just want a tv that works and lasts, is that to much to ask?)

Decent quality-recommended

Pros:
1- Image quality at 4K is good.
2- Google TV is easy to use and it runs android 11 under the hood.
3- Built-in speakers are decent, it even has base/tiny subwoofer.
4- Brightness is can go very high. Good for a bright room.
5- TV response is good, it is not super snappy but it is not slow either.
Cons/or not depending on your view:
1- If you have a dark room, brightness jumps in 10% increments. If 10% is too bright and 0% is too dark, well you're out of luck.
2- 4 bright yellow lights at the center bottom of the TV stare you in the face when you turn on the TV. It turns out, there is a small switch at the bottom center of the TV, a little to the left, that if toggled, turns On the TV microphone and then the yellow lights go away. If you have privacy concerns that a Chinese made TV with 25/7 access can be listening ... No solution here but to turn the microphone off, and put a black tape over the lights to hide them!
3- quick ON setting is enabled by default . It leaves the TV in standby mode, it won't shutdown completely so it can be turned on fast or with voice commands. Internet and power remain active when in standby. If disabled, TV take about 30 seconds to boot up.
4- Power saving mode is On by default. It causes flickers and brightness changes while watching TV to a point where you'd think something is wrong with the TV. This is under "picture mode" I changed it from "low power" setting to one of the other settings and the problem was solved.

The TCL Q Class QM8, Exceptionally good !

I will begin this review by stating my following opinion:
There is no such thing as the perfect television ! I say this because of the various features and technologies on the market and the many end users with different preferences.
That said, The TCL 65" Q CLASS 4K MINI-LED QLED HDR SMART TV WITH GOOGLE TV - 65QM850G, in my opinion comes as close as posible to the perfect television in its category. As the first generation Q series high end quantum dot mini LED screen with anti glare technology and multi dimming zones the QM8 definitely gives the OLED televisions a run for their money with near perfect deep blacks and vivid colors without the shortcomings OLED TV’s are widely know for and the cost.
The QM8 has a very bright picture to overcome sunny and bright rooms through its near 2000 nits of power. It does have some slight blooming at times but in all fairness, believe it or not so did my old OLED with certain tv shows and movies.
I use the QM8 in a room that has but a few hours of sun in the morning so I find myself turning the brightness level to 10 from 100 percent to keep from having to use sun block during evening viewing.
It also has a decent built in sound system with ample bass and loudness which will not require
you to purchase a sound bar saving you extra money. After unboxing and wall mounting the QM8 did required me to perform a software update and personal adjustments for just the right personal preference. Finally the TCL QM8
added a back- lid remote control to the package which is great during night use. I highly recommend the TCL QM8 for your viewing pleasure so sit back and enjoy.
In addition I have to add that Best Buy made the buying experience as always a good and pleasant one. Thank you for standing by your customers.

I just bought this TV from owning an LG OLED(2016) that suffered from severe burn in. So disappointing, since OLED is the best picture you’ll get from a TV, hands down. This TV comes close, but is definitely not a match for OLED. Blacks are pretty good, but not perfect. Sometimes blacks are crushed in really dark scenes. Very little to no blooming, very bright picture, lots of customizing options for picture color temps and saturation. Dolby Vision and Atmos both supported. HDR 10+ looks really good. Depending on how videos are flagged, it’ll change to the correct format, but sometimes the picture blinks in and out, acting like it’s changing even though it’s already on the correct format. Hopefully a future software update will fix this. Overall, a good TV for the money.

Cost IS a factor to consider

At the end of the day, cost IS a consideration. And sometimes, it wins out. That is the case for this TCL 65 QM8. Once I decided to add a television, I immediately threw a high end OLED in the shopping cart. Big time sale price, it was highly recommended and highly discounted. But it was still expensive and I was still aching from Christmas and tuition payments. Not to mention, I frequently game on my TV and also watch a lot of YouTube and other channels that shown badges in fixed locations. I learned from my plasma display that this can lead to the dreaded image burn in. So, I let it sit and went looking for a back-lit alternative. I have a 42-inch TCL television that I use as a monitor with which I have been very happy. TCL is an up and comer in the TV market. It is not as familiar as those you regularly hear of, but it is, in my opinion, finding its place in the market by offering a great product at a great price. My TCL search turned up this TCL QM8. Doing further internet searching revealed that this is a highly recommended, and bright, television that is near the picture quality of OLED screens and has none of the draw backs. Did I mention a severe cost saving?
I'd say that the QM8 is everything everyone says it is. VERY bright screen with a lot of contrast to give deep inky blacks and vibrant colors. Games are a treat and just watching bird feeders on YouTube or high definition HDR mediation channels really shine.
I find myself going to Sport and Smart HDR to give the best combination of color and smooth panning. Panning in Movie mode can lead to a bit of quite noticeable stuttering. I haven't experimented enough with the settings to try to smooth it out and using the other base modes seems to sort the issue. That does raise the issue that most all new televisions with deep capabilities also have deep settings options that can require "TV settings for dummies" text book if you really want to go down that rabbit hole. That is to say, if you want to, you can tweak several dozen different settings to dial this set in to your own personal liking. Or pay a professional. For me, the base modes with a little touch hear and there, based on some quick searches, get me what I need.
A whole lot of words to say this television is a versatile alternative to a higher end OLED or "name brand" set, with none of the potential drawbacks and at a significant cost savings. And sometimes, that cost savings can't be ignored. Maybe check your shopping cart to see what you're about to commit to. You might be surprised at what TCL offers at a considerable savings. I was. -Cheers
*Note: Sound quality is listed as average because I run everything through my stereo. I don't know how the built in speakers and sub-woofer (!) actually sound.

I recently upgraded to the TCL 65" QM8 Q-Class Mini-LED QLED 4K HDR Smart TV with Google TV, and I must say, it has completely exceeded my expectations in every way possible.
First and foremost, the picture quality is outstanding. The combination of QLED technology and Mini-LED backlighting delivers breathtaking clarity, vibrant colors, and deep contrast. Whether I'm watching movies, gaming, or streaming my favorite shows, every scene comes to life with stunning detail and realism. HDR content truly shines on this TV, providing a dynamic range that enhances both bright and dark areas of the screen.
The size of this TV is perfect for creating a cinematic experience right in my living room. The 65-inch screen is immersive without being overwhelming, making it ideal for enjoying movies and sports with family and friends.
The integration of Google TV is seamless and enhances the overall user experience. It's incredibly easy to navigate through apps, find content, and control the TV using voice commands with the Google Assistant built-in. The interface is intuitive and responsive, ensuring I spend less time searching and more time enjoying my favorite entertainment.
Another standout feature is the sleek design of the TCL QM8. The slim bezels and modern stand complement any living space, adding a touch of elegance to my home theater setup.
Setup was a breeze thanks to the straightforward instructions and user-friendly interface. Within minutes, I had everything connected and ready to go.
In summary, the TCL 65" QM8 Q-Class Mini-LED QLED 4K HDR Smart TV with Google TV is a true powerhouse when it comes to home entertainment. If you're looking for a TV that delivers exceptional picture quality, smart functionality, and a stylish design, look no further. Great Quality TV Where It Counts
|
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I decided to upgrade my bedroom TV with this 65-inch mini-LED panel from TCL since my old TV was pretty thick and took a long time to load apps.
Design
The TV seemed to have the exact same panel as a more expensive brand I own, which are both very nice. The TV seems about a half inch thicker than my other TV, but I didn’t find it significant. The only noticeable quality differences in the TVs was in the plastic used on the back panel. This TCL TV used a thinner, more pliable plastic where my other TV used a thicker, stiffer plastic. As for the remote, I liked the subtle backlit lighting which made it easier to locate the correct button when the lights were out.
Setup
I found many similarities to more expensive televisions surprising, but was more surprised by the easy setup using my Google account. The more expensive TV I purchased last fall didn’t even have this feature. I did, however, run into an issue with my other TV not responding to voice commands after setting the voice control features up on this TV. I ended up turning these features off for now until I can figure out a way to isolate voice control for the two different TVs.
Picture Quality
The image quality was identical to my other TV, which is phenomenal. The blacks were not a dark as an OLED TV, but I was happy with the picture since I need more light from the panel to offset the light from the windows. The screen did a great job at preventing the light, from part of the panel, from bleeding into other parts (halo effect).
Overall experience
The apps loaded quickly and you can stream from your Android based phone, Windows computer, or Airplay from Apple products. I tried Airplay and it worked flawlessly.
I would highly recommend this TV. The picture quality is comparative of much more expensive TVs and would not be surprised if the supplier of the panel was not the same. The only two negative things I found with this TV was the interfering “Hey Google” commands and the cheaper plastic which was used on the back. Neither of these issues would prevent me from seeking out another TCL TV in the future.

This was an upgrade from a 55" TCL older model Roku TV. The picture is, comparatively, spectacular. It's a bit of adjustment going from Roku OS to GoogleTV OS. I had difficulty getting eArc to behave so that the TCL remote would power off my AV receiver and the TV. There are a LOT of things to explore in the menu. WRT the picture, the deepness of the black AND the contrast between light and dark are outstanding. I have been watching in movie mode with the brightness level set to 6 (out of 100!) and the picture is beautiful. There's a scene early in No Time to Die where Bond is in a dark hotel room with the rising sun streaming through a window behind him, and the sun is so bright it blinds you, yet the rest of the darkened room is clearly visible. I think the TV will benefit from some future firmware upgrades, but I am quite delighted by it.

I am on my 3rd week of owning the 65" QM8 and love it so far. I was in the market for a new TV and was going to buy an OLED LG or Samsung, but when I saw the early talk a few weeks back about this TV it caught my curiosity. The price difference was a huge factor, and after I bought the price dropped again, $1199.99 to me is still a lot. But when you save $800 - $2000 to me for the difference it's a no brainer. If you would have told me last year that I would buy a TCL TV, I would have laughed and been like you are crazy. I have been going back and watching some of my favorite Sci-Fi movies with lots of night and outer space scenes and I have been blown away on how good they look. It's like seeing the movie new again.
Now I have encountered a small problem. My TV is not playing nice with my Onkyo AV receiver. All of my components DirecTV, Roku Ultra, 4K Blu-Ray, X-Box are going to AVR and one HDMI to the TV. When I turn on the TV it always turns on my Roku when I want to watch DirecTV. I never had this problem before on my Samsung TV. I am using eArc and did auto select in menu of TV. Don't know if I missed something else in setup or it is what it is. After the TV is on for a few seconds I can switch it to the right input, but when you first turn on it's always goes to Roku and will go back to it if you change right away. I have the TV wall mounted and during a remodel had two HDMI cables run in the wall. So I could probably run two or three more HDMI's to the TV and let the TV be the switch but it would be a pain in the butt. I was curious if anyone else has had this problem?
Over all I am happy so far. Now just wait and see how long it last compared to all my Samsung TV's that quit working with in four years, or right past the warranty ended. If it does Samsung and LG better take notice.

Purchased the 65 inch Qm8 because of its amazing price...
Pros:
Crazy bright, over 2k nits.
Great fluid gaming.
Fast interface (Google)
Cheap entry into VRR and 120hz gaming.
Cons
Upscaling and Motion
When watching 1080p content or lower this set is horrific. Tried watching football and it's a blurry artifact ridden mess... And don't even think of using the smoothing (anti judder option). The ball almost completely disappears and it creates unusual artifacts in the players while moving.
I also tried watching content on YouTube and even in higher resolutions the picture quality was just not good.
My unit also had poor screen uniformity. Left side was really dark compared to the right. I tried to like this TV for a whole week but given the shortcomings of Upscaling, and motion while watching anything besides HDR content made me decide to return it.
I ended up getting a 65 inch LG C3 OLED and couldn't be happier with the motion and Upscaling.. It's definitely not as bright as the TCL mini led but it's a much better quality unit.

Great TV for the money, good picture quality for most content including 4K, SDR (mostly, still unsure with this set's motion and upscaling), and gaming on the PS5! Utilizes the 3rd HDMI port for eARC which ALL brands should be doing already rather than take up limited 2.1 HDMI slots with it

BEST TV I COULD FIND FOR MY BUDGET. ENJOYING THE EXTRA INCHES, AS WE MOVED UP FROM 55". BRILLIANT COLOR, GOOD PICTURE SETTINGS OPTIONS, AND SOUNDS GOOD RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX.IF YOU SIT IN THE SWEET SPOT, NOT TOO CLOSE, THE PICTURE SHARPNESS LOOKS GREAT WITH MINIMAL DISTORTION OR PIXELS. MACY"S PARADE LOOKED FANTASTIC. TV IS WONDERFULLY BRIGHT ACROSS ENTIRE SCREEN. BLACK BORDERS ARE REALLY BLACK, ... A TRULY CINEMATIC SITUATION.
I would recommend this to a friend
