Customers often highlight the exceptional picture quality, brightness, and deep blacks of the 65" Class QM8-Series 4K UHD HDR QD Mini LED Smart Google TV (2024). Many also praise its affordability and ease of use. However, some users note that motion handling could be improved, particularly for fast-paced content. The impressive HDR performance is also frequently mentioned as a positive aspect.

Great TV for a Great Price! But a few compromises

The brightness on this is absolutely incredible! After getting the picture dialed in (Use Movie preset when calibrating) and setting up 1917 in 4k Blu Ray as a tester for the new panel I was absolutely blown away! It was honestly so bright in some high contrast scenes that it nearly hurt my eyes. Color accuracy is also very good on this TV. Blooming is truly non noticeable unless you're really looking forward and this honestly has OLED black levels. This also has some of the best TV speakers I've ever heard and they actually do a good job with Dolby Atmos, they are however still not good enough to replace a proper surround setup or soundbar though. Now a TV with picture quality this good along with actually decent sound quality does come with some compromises and that is in motion handling. This unit definitely struggles with handling motion especially in live sports and fast panning shots. If you want it to be smooth you'll get lots of distortion around players helmets and a football flying through the air, but if you turn off all motion handling then its a bit of a juddery mess. Firmware updates over the paast few months have definitely improved its motion handling so kudos to TCL for still working on improving this set. I've personally found the best motion settings are Clearmotion on, Motion Blur 10, Reduce Judder 0. You then get a fairly smooth experience with minimal quality loss. Overall though this is a fantastic TV especially for the price, it has great build quality, great sound, great smart TV OS, and most importantly a great price!

Incredible TV depending on your use

This is a great TV depending on your primary use. For games, it's incredible. Very low latency, picture and colors are fantastic, and two HDMI 2.1 ports (neither set aside for eARC) makes this a winner.
For movies it is quite good, aside from it's handling of motion. I came from a Sony X90J, so the change was drastic. While that TV (and most Sony TVs) handled motion very, very well, the colors and brightness were lacking. This TV excels as both. Fair warning, if you are watching something at full brightness and there are flashes from a camera or similar, it will make you see spots, it's that bright.
As with the motion handling in movies, it is also not great with sports. I got this TV in time for the Stanley Cup finals, and it wasn't the best. Watchable for sure, but I wouldn't buy this TV if your primary use will be watching fast sports that are broadcast at a lower resolution. The settings can be adjusted so it is a little better from the default settings, but it is still not fantastic.
The TV's speakers are actually quite good, but I did not use them for that long prior to hooking up my soundbar. In the short time I did use them, I found them to be the best TV speakers I have ever come across.
Overall I really do like this TV, but my use is about 60% games, 25% movies, and 15% sports. If future firmware updates improve the motion handling, this TV would be 5 out of 5 and an easy recommendation.

Picture quality is amazing when playing 4k content. HDR content looks insanely good, and blacks are the best ive seen (never used an oled though I can not compare to that) Low resolution videos dont look too great, my old series 8 from 2019 seemed to handle low resolution content much better but its still very usable. I have one major issue with the TV. When using 144hz with VRR and HDR enabled on a PC for gaming, the screen will constantly flicker and display the input information on the top of the screen. The only fix is to limit the tv to 120hz, or disable vrr or hdr. You can not use 144hz , vrr, and hdr all at once for gaming on PC which is a shame because I specifically bought this TV for that.

I did a lot of Research on this TV. And was driven to return my first choice ( Hisense UN8) and buy this one. It was only $100 more at the time. This tv is very bright. I had a Sony previously where this tv was mounted. Sony was moved to a different room Love it and kinda hate it in the same time. Honestly ;-
Great picture when streaming 4k form Netflix ,Prime ,Max , Paramount + …ETC….
But this tv can not upgrade the cable box streaming and it does not show a realistic picture. Almost anime like. Weird. My wife hates it when I play content from cable box. It has been somewhat calibrated and looks great otherwise kn HDR or Dolby Armos…
Not in SDR streaming. I miss Sony at that. No matter what ckntent I streamed , Sony made everything look awesome and everything looked 4k. So, the processor on the TCL , it is not anywhere near Sony processors.
But, I enjoy watching movies on it a lot. Bright es and colors are great while online streaming.

Replaced a SONY and won!!

My son left the outside TV (SONY) away from the wall and the wind slammed and broke it.
I needed a replacement but it had to have over 1000nits to be outside in the very bright pool area. Cheapest SONY was $1300 at the time but wasn’t 120+ regress rate…etc! Took a chance with buying this TV and hit the proverbial jackpot. The picture is absolutely stunning and the performance and picture are as good as my OLED TV.
If you are on the fence and shopping around, like I did; look no more, this is the one you’ve been waiting for. Ours is the 2024 model. They have the same one for less that is the 2023 model, but it was on sale for the exact same price. So, I couldn’t pass it up. Stop looking and just buy it!!

I was looking for a 65” MiniLed TV for under $1k, I zeroed in on this 2024 model TCL, as it one some titles in 2024, and the price came down to $900.
Pros 120 Herz, google TV, solid build. Nice colors after some calibration (out of the box the reds are awful, but it can be easily fixed)
Cons does not look great off angle, but I knew that, and it does not bother me.
If you can get it for $900 it is a really good TV. One the 2025 model is out, (is it already?) the price will drop even more.

This tv is one of its kind. This tv offers great transitions of colors and brightness in watching a movie. Not to mention the sound is impeccable. Although, the more you have increased the volume for a long time, it’s starts to sound a bit less puncture such as the bass but overall, a very good tv

Amazing tv for the price. I’m HDR the picture quality is amazing, so is the audio. Where it lacks is motion, it’s good but not name brand good. It struggles with patterns but that’s rare so no biggie. For 899 it’s impossible to beat. This review is coming from someone who came from an older oled c9. If the blacks aren’t black enough for you on this tv you’re just a oled fan boy. I’m very picky and this tv/blacks have surprised me. Forgot to add SDR is just meh upscaling is still better on name brand

I bought this 65" TCL QM851G after doing some extensive research. I'm totally happy with the picture and the Google operating system. I'm 54 and this is the best TBI I've ever had. I'm a TV Junkie and watching movies on this and sports in the comfort of my own home is a real treat. It's extremely bright and no matter what setting you put the picture on you will have to turn it down cuz it will hurt your eyes. I love the back lit remote and I got it for 900 bucks at Christmas and yes I would buy this again.

I've been in the market for a new tv for at least a year. Did tons of research and saw the QM8. Once it hit a sale, I picked this one up. Best TV purchase ever. The TV is super bright and clarity is off the charts. I upgraded from an 8 year old LG, which at the time, was also a great TV. But going from that to the QM8 has been night and day. Almost no light blooming (my biggest gripe with the LG), very accurate colors, and just overall great build quality. I'm recommending this one to anyone looking for a great tv but doesn't want to break the bank

Best overall TV for the cost out of the box. Great sound eithout needing to add any additional audio equipment. Very user-friendly UI, and the home screen has basically everything you're looking for as soon you power it on. I use a tech review website before I purchase any electronics, as they have been the most consistent and trustworthy in their write-ups. Might be too much info for some, but you get the main bullet points most will carr about right at the top review summary. Love the sound and the Onkyo speakers w/ sub rock
I have the TV set up near a window and it's nice and bright/ easy to see.
I use internet only with WiFi and Google TV provides tons of apps to watch just about anything for free.
The 65" is heavy...you'll need 2 people to help wall mount it

I had to replace my T.V because it got fried from my parrot perching on top of it. The 65 inch TV arrived and you're going to need two people to hold the TV (it's 60 LBS). This TV has a ton of features, I would suggest looking up videos on YouTube and reading articles to figure them all out. Picture is very nice, I'm no expert but for the price, you're going to get an amazing picture quality. The remote has a mic on it. I just tell the remote what I want to watch and BAM !, it goes right to it! Worth the money, worth the time, very happy customer.Picture quality and color is fantastic for the price point.
Sound is great. I don't use a sound bar with the TCL TV. The picture quality is stunning—clear, crisp, and vibrant colors, making watching sports and movies a great experience. Overall, this TV has exceeded my expectations, and I couldn’t be happier with my purchase. Worth the money, worth the time, very happy customer. Great TV at a great and reasonable price! The quality of the picture is above my expectations! Sound meets my expectations! Overall TV is awesome! Great item and I highly recommend!

The TCL is a great tv out of the box, especially for those people who do not want to tweak with the settings. Not saying they can’t be adjusted, but for the casual tv watcher, out of the box settings are fine. The blacks are great, the colors are great, easy to mount on a wall with the proper mount. I would buy one again to replace another tv when the time comes.

Very, very happy I bought this. I feel this is one of the absolute value TVs out there, the most bang for your buck. Strangely, in some ways this 2024 model is better than the 2025, so glad I got the '24. This is as close to OLED as you get for under $1,000 (at 65"). The brightness & HDR are AWESOME. One of - if not THE - brightest TVs out there. No, it's not the most color accurate TV for SDR content, but whatever, it's still great to me. It also has pretty great built in speakers & subwoofer (yes, I realize a soundbar or audio system would be way better, but for built in audio, this is pretty great). I did a lot of homework & comparisons before purchasing so I had an idea of what to expect, & I'm happy to report I wasn't disappointed. There are a few downsides, but the pros far, farrrr outweigh any cons IMO. My biggest cons all have work arounds, not ideal but I'm willing to accept these because the TV really is so awesome for the price. Those cons- Some Google TV apps inconsistency w/ video processing (I really like Google/Android TV, but I've begrudgingly gotten an Apple TV 4K because it's super consistent); While it seems to have a strong/fast WiFi 6E chipset, the Ethernet port is only 100mb, not a gigabit port (!?), so it's network connection can be drastically faster on WiFi. If I'm streaming 4K Dolby Vision, I'd rather not rely on WiFi even if it is strong, so I've (again, begrudgingly) bought an adapter to get gigabit -USB 3 to Ethernet adapter that I've plugged into the single USB 3 port on the side of the TV, pretty cheap on Amazon & does the job, but not ideal. I don't entirely rely on the Apple TV because Apple's device doesn't do audio processing well, so audio actually sounds better using the built in Google TV OS. Finally, TCL isn't known for being great at updating their TV OSs often, but thankfully there's a pretty robust AVS Forums community that posts this TVs beta OS updates (of which there are many). Installing the betas is fairly easy, and it's helped with the video processing/color accuracy.

I started off with a 55" Sony X95L because I had to have the best. We'll the TCL QM8 65" is 1/3 the price and it is a beautiful unit. Paired with a Bose ultra soundbar makes for a great watching experience. Just invest in a decent wall mount.

I owned several TCL TV's. This is the first of this new high end series and first Google TV. It is outstanding. Extremely bright and vivid and sound quite good even without a sound bar. Setup took a little longer than the Roku interface but Google TV is far more comprehensive and offers so many choices.
