Great TV for Gaming

Awesome TV for a fraction of the cost of the competition. After a little picture calibration, the screen looks comparable to OLED. I use this primarily with my PS5 hooked up to HDMI 2.1 @ 120hz. Features like THX, Dolby Vision and ALLM make it perfect for gaming.
Only downsides are the viewing angle is small, the audio is average at best, plus the software is still occasionally slow/buggy even after updating.

Amazing quality and performance for the price. This set can almost (read almost) hang with the premium group of tvs available. Google interface could use just a tad bit tweaking from an update but confident in that happening. Gaming runs magnificent with 120hz. I would have loved to have an LG c1 if money weren’t issue but this honestly blows me away for price and performance. Probably the best bang for your buck available and by far.

Has a great picture. The Blacks are really Black and The Whites are nice and bright. The Tv guild is slow to come up but I mainly stream so that's not a problem for me.

The screen is pretty bright to be used in day time without shading, and the picture quality is great. The system is a bit slow and lagging comparing to the old TCL TV in Roku platform and the other TV I have in Android TV platform.

Good image quality but software has many bugs and crashes on some apps.
Also, I have lost audio and video on a few occasions, and I had to restart the TV to fix it.

Nice TV, Good Price Point, Terrible UI

The TV itself, once you have a good panel, is nice. Quality picture and brightness with a decent price point.
Controlling the TV settings and the app UI itself... well, Google failed miserably here. I'm very technically savvy and this UI just has me scrambling to figure out where to find things and how to get to where I need to be. If you need the 2.1 ports and VRR, go with this TV but be aware the UI sucks. If you don't need them, I'd stick w/ TCL's Roku interface, last year's 6-series.
Check your panel well too before calling it good. My first panel had some major wave to it and all the pictures were distorted by the wave in the panel. Had to return it and get a new one, which was a crappy process.

Just got the TV today and had to spend quite a bit of time just getting it to play nice with my sound bar (Sonos ARC) and my Apple TV. The software is buggy as others have said and pretty sluggish - I even tried to play a show on one of the built in apps and it looked really muddy and washed out vs. playing the same show on the Apple TV. The good is that the picture quality really is good and if you're using a different streaming device, it seems you can avoid most of the negatives.

I’m so mad at myself for giving this TV a shot after seeing the other reviews about glitches. After hearing how good the picture was for the price I decided to give it a shot. It sounded like maybe the bugs had been worked out. I’ll assure you they haven’t. After multiple sotfware updates apps continue to freeze more often than not. I spend more time resetting the tv trying to get it to work than I do watching shows. Don’t buy this tv, you’ll thank me later.

Well, I'm not an expert on TVs by any means, with this said, I'm surprised with the quality and image of this TV, I just have to set the brightness to 60% and that was all I had to change in terms of image. One thing I notice is the Google TV implementation is not at the same level of the Nvidia shield and for some reason, the Shield produces more vibrant colors than the native GTV. I bought 2 75" sets, up to now (only 1 week), I'm happy win them.

LIP SYNC ISSUES WITH SOUNDBAR
|
|
Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed.

This TV would get 5 stars if it was not for the lip sync issues I get across the board with all content and sources with my soundbar using eARC with digital audio out set to passthrough on the TV. The sound will start perfect for a few minutes and then you notice it's not in sync anymore. This is constant throughout an entire movie across all sources. I have the same soundbar (Sony Z9F) connected to another LG OLED using the same passthrough eARC setting and I have no lip sync issues so it's not my soundbar. eARC is supposed to eliminate lip sync problems (at least that's how it was advertised). I did call support and they suggested I use the audio delay setting on the TV. This setting goes from -50 all the way up to 1000. This did not work since like i said it will start perfect and then go off sync and come back again in sync and them off, etc. The TV speakers are fine, no lip sync issue there. The picture is very good, no issues there. I really hope this gets fixed with a software update within the next 50 days or so otherwise I will have to return.

Big and Beautiful !

Big and Beautiful!
Was in the market to replace my aging 50” plasma. I wanted something that was bigger, had lots of streaming options and worked with some of the smart plugs and such I have in my house. This made me want Google. I saw TCL and Sony with Google TV. Doing some research showed that I could save some big money and still get a great picture. Glad I did my research!!
First the hardware. This TV has something called a “mini LED backlight” All I know is it’s SUPER bright, plus the backs are great. So I can enjoy it during the day and at night, plus not worry about burn-in like with OLED. There are TONS of picture adjustment options, plus all the latest gaming features including 4k/120Hz…butter smooth! It was easy for me and my buddy to mount, and weighed lees than my 50” plasma I took down! I did find out that the mounting holes are on the bottom third of the TV, so I had to move my mount down a bit to accommodate that and the larger size, but that didn’t surprise me: I looked at all the other brands in-store and they all seem to be the same like that.
Google is awesome! I love how when I turn the TV on I see movies and TV shows to watch, not just a bunch of apps. I have already found some great shows based on stuff I have watched already. Hello Ted Lasso!! Plus it works great with all my smart stuff. I can just say “Show me the garage” and it quickly shows my Nest Camera. Pretty slick! One thing it took me a second to find is that there is actually an 0n/off switch for the microphone on the TV, so if you don’t want it on, you don’t have to.
Overall I could not be happier. I still need to spend some time customizing the home screen so I can get to things faster, but that’s part of the fun! Highly recommend!

Amazing value. Brightness cranked, you can absolutely see some weirdness on TV torture tests. But I've seen no artifacts or weird glow using the Google TV OS and streaming apps. I did have some weird instances where green afterimages would persist, but those went away after a quick factory reset and software update. Metal frame is premium looking, Google TV OS is great fun for Hipster Whale games with the family, and the remote takes standard AAA batteries that you can buy rechargeable versions of. A steal for $1,500 all said and done.

Good pic, bad CEC, and potential privacy issues

Overall it has a good picture, but other things about it are annoying. Here are the top three in order from least to worst annoying.
1) it's pretty thick (but not that bad)
2) I don't trust the privacy settings at all. I only connect to the net for firmware updates using a temporary guest Wi-Fi network (that I disable afterwards). Do not trust this TV on your network full time! By default this tv will monitor everything you watch on tv. And it has a mic so it can hear everything you say in the room it lives in. Keep in mind, it is manufactured in a country without a great tradition of respect for privacy. There is an off switch for the mic and just don't leave it connected to the net. It may try to reconnect so consider my temporary guest network trick. Or use Ethernet and just pull the plug after.
3) it has a terrible CEC implementation. Every other tv I have tried (and it is many) can be turned off by connected devices. Not this tv. It means that if you have something like an AppleTV you need a second remote to turn off the tv. TCL claims this is a feature, not a bug. Look in Reddit, nobody else thinks it is a feature! (BTW external devices can turn it on, just not off...go figure.)
There's also some "dirty screen effect" (aka DSE), but that is common on this kind of panel and it normally isn't really visible. I'm also thinking that with some adjustment it will go away (or at least be minimized).
I don't use the built in smart features at all so I can't comment on them. But considering that using them requires either a complete disregard for privacy concerns -- or a serious leap of faith -- I think nobody should. Just get an outboard device. IMHO, of the available devices Apple TV is the best when it comes to respecting your privacy.
And definitely turn off that microphone that is built into the tv!

The sheer value of this TV is like none other. The picture quality on this TV is stellar for the price point. 4k 120hz gaming is a delight and supports next-gen consoles such as the Xbox series X and PS5 to reach their full potential. The implementation of Google TV is a bonus in my experience with this television and does not interfere with my use cases with this TV. Highly recommend getting your hands on one of these!

Panel is decent, but the software is lacking. Expect some hiccups here and there when using smart functions. Built-in speakers suck, as a vast majority of big thin TVs do.
