Flat picture quality is fantastic (effects disabled).
I bought this TV because it is the closest thing to OLED without going OLED. It has great performance with HDR content and deep blacks like an OLED. The only time its very obvious it isn't an OLED, is when you view it from an angle, where you can see the backlighting have a halo effect in situations with high contrast, such as black screen and white graphics/text, but you don't see this from typical viewing angles, so this doesn't matter at all to me.
They typically have this TV on display in the store, so I recommend checking it out in person, and comparing to an LG or Sony OLED, and you'll see how close this TV comes for a fraction of the price.
By default, this TV's picture settings have a lot of effects turnt on, which in my opinion are garbage. Disable them.
"Intelligent Picture" is trash, just turn it off, it causes color shifting and flickering. I recommend turning everything off, to a completely flat picture, and then try adding what you need from there. I recommend turning off denoising, unless you're dealing with low-bit rate streaming content, cause I believe its better to see film grain in the original picture, than for a TV to smudge the image (cartoon effect).
-Possible stutter-
There may be some possible stuttering with 24 frame content. I'm still testing the TV out on this, and it may be something that goes away when motion smoothing is toggled on or off. Make sure to test this out yourself if it is a deal breaker.
-Legacy support-
This TV does not have composite, s-video, or component inputs, beware. You will need to convert these signals to HDMI. The TV does however support 480i and 480p coming from HDMI, so upscaling to 720/1080 isn't a requirement for these signals. The TV does have an RF input, if that matters to you. I don't know if the TV supports lower resolutions like 240, for those that like old consoles.
-Gaming-
Since this is an LCD and not an OLED, there is input lag for gamers, ranging from 6 ms to 16 ms, depending on refresh rate, with 120hz being the lowest input lag. I'd say this level of input lag is standard, and only a concern if you're into e-sports, there you may want to get an OLED or just get a separate e-sports PC gaming monitor. But for typical console gaming, I'd say this TV is fine.
-Sound-
I can't comment much on sound, because I don't use built-in TV speakers. No matter what TV you buy, no matter how expensive, I'd recommend you get floor speakers or at least a soundbar. I'm still using floor speakers from 1988, which clearly was a good investment if they lasted this long, so that is my two cents on sound.

Let me start by saying I have an LG B9 OLED in my game room. This QM8 TV gets way brighter and has much more color and detail than the LG B9. I started by watching the new season of The Witcher on Netflix, which automagically goes into Dolby Vision and works amazingly. The blacks are as good as my OLED with very little visible blooming. The colors and detail on 1080p content and 4k content look very nice and very OLED like. I used the settings that Stop the Fomo has on his youtube video for this TV. The built in sound on this TV is the loudest I've had built in any TV over the years. I have a sound system but often find myself not using it except for movies. That being said this TV has a few drawbacks including no ATSC 3.0 tuner and limited upscaling on very old 480p content. 720p 1080p and 4k content all look good to my eye. ATSC 1 content upscales just fine. The TV also likes to over-push red a bit which I don't find annoying as it makes most scenes pop a bit more. My overall rating is a 4.5/5 or a 9/10.

The BEST decision I have ever made...

A few weeks ago, I lost my beautiful Sony XBR-75850C. This was a $4000 4K top-of-the-line model in 2016. After a full diagnosis and contacting Sony support, I concluded that the TV would at the very least, require a new board. As such, I decided to research new models to see what was available to me within my budget. I am on a fixed income now, so cost was very important.
After watching several reviews, I became very interested in the TCL QM8 75 inch that offered Quantum Dot and Mini-LED backlighting technology. I have stayed up on technological advances and realized that this TV brought together some of the most important features available today from a video point of view.
I was also interested in purchasing a smart TV that could provide additional streaming sources that I was accustomed to, especially because I am a “cord cutter” who no longer pays for subscription television services. This model is integrated with Google TV, that provides almost 800 channels in addition to those available over the air with an antenna.
The same model was available on Amazon as well as Best Buy for approximately the same price. However, the decision-making factor was that Best Buy offered a credit card that allowed me to purchase the TCL QM8 with no interest, if fully paid in 24 months! That did it for me…
Now for the best part… After set up, I was absolutely stunned at not only the picture quality, but the “Smart” features built into this model… Please understand, I am talking about artificial intelligence… In addition to Alexa voice control, this model seems to know your personal preferences, and performs instantaneous searches with spectacular results.
Getting back to the picture, the QM8 offers outstanding brightness that allows the set to be used in almost any environment. The antiglare coating is better than any I have ever seen before. The blacks and the shadow details are as good as any OLED image. Finally, the audio (with subwoofer) is as good as can be expected without a sound bar or dedicated home theater set up.

Prior to this purchase, I owned two OLED and one plasma TV, so I appreciate inky blacks. This display comes close--not quite absolute black, but what more than makes up for it are the dazzling brights--almost flinch worthy. I have the set dialed in for low to no lighting, and have the brightness set at 30/100. Colors are great, motion artifacts are not bad with no correction and can be almost entirely eliminated using the available settings (at some expense to background detail). TV is good enough to give Sony Bravia and the Samsung's costing nearly twice as much a serious run for picture quality, and for the money it's not even close. The only minor issue is a corona effect around credits and logos (absolute black background).
What's utterly remarkable is the sense of depth--almost as if you could walk into the scene, that and textures along with the brights are all utterly remarkable.
I'm retired and wanted excellence at an affordable price, and this delivers in spades. (Paid 1800 for 75" when introduced).
PS: Not a gamer, but my AVS forum friends tell me it's thoroughly competent.

This TV is stunning, worth every penny, little to no blooming, very bright, speedy google tv interface, gaming is just about flawless Couldnt be mkre impressed by the 75” QM8. The only drawback is only havinf 2 HDMI 2.1 inputs, but having the EARC assigned to hdmi 4 at least allows you to have 2 consoles connected directly to the tv and atill have the features of 2.1 work. Forget overpaying for the competitors that dont offer dolby vision or other features. This tv has everythinf you could want and looks stunning!! I have never been this satiafied with a decision involving any electronics!

Awesome black levels, competitive with OLED and far cheaper. Very high brightness and good color representation. Can take a bit to dial each setting in to your liking, but once it's good it's great. Very impressive with gaming, although the Game Master mode can sometimes fight you. The processor isn't strong enough to stream games without severe stutter, which is a shame.
What sold me on it was that it's run on Google TV, which in my opinion is the easiest to use ecosystem by far. Google TV integrates with most of your apps seamlessly, and stays snappy.
Plenty of ports and connection options. The stand is central based, which is so much more convenient for finding placement. Where other TVs have to sit on a table or surface that's almost as wide as the TV, this lets you put the TV on any much smaller spot (as long as it's stable and can support the weight). Even with the single central stand, the TV stays stable.
The sound is not great, but who buys a 75 inch TV for the speakers?

I upgraded from a Vizio 75" tv, that lacked local dimming, after a few years, the Vizio backlight went out on half the TV, forcing me to replace it. When I got the TCL, I was enticed by the number of local dimming zones, and that it was a native 120hz panel, with 144hz capability. When I turned it on, I immediately noticed that blacks were black, and dang was it bright. After running some basic calibration through the Xbox, the picture is excellent. I can't comment on sound quality, other than forgetting to mute the internal speakers, I have never used built-in speakers, and highly recommend a sound bar at a bare minimum.
I've had this TV for a few weeks now and am extremely happy with the purchase.

this is not an $800 TV; this borders one of the best TV's I could find under $1,500... We love it.. If you just lookup the features of this, there's no fluff, it does exactly everything you see in the features.. it's great for sports, it's so bright I even had to turn it down a little... I have had my last Sharp Aquos for almost 10 years, it was the same quality as this one and cost just as much. With these TV's you really get what you pay for... if you're on the fence, lookup reviews of this model vs the Sony in the same price range; this one came out better... BestBuy has great deals on TV's and delivery was fast and great! They have all my business for all my applicances and big ticket items, just like this TV..

After comparing the 75” TCL QM8 and Hisense U8K, I upgraded to the QM8, drawn by its superior black levels, increased local dimming zones, enhanced Dolby Vision performance, and eARC support without sacrificing an HDMI 2.1 port, despite the U8K's ADS-Pro panel. The QM8 significantly outperforms my previous 2018 TCL model and is visually stunning. However, its eARC feature has notable issues, causing disconnections with the receiver or soundbar that require troubleshooting to resolve, slightly diminishing an otherwise perfect television experience.

Great picture quality! I came from an LG OLED A2 65” and this is close to the same quality. You can’t beat the depth an OLED panel gives you but mine died within a year and LG was horrible to deal with to get my money back so I decided to give this a shot. There is some blooming when most of the screen is black and it’s showing something bright but it’s not that bad and the black levels almost look the same as OLED. I’m impressed!

Great picture on this set. Extremely bright. Setup was easy thanks to Google TV. I recommend mounting on the wall if you use a soundbar as the IR reciever is on the bottom of the TV and it sits very low to the surface (soundbar blocks the "eye" when sat in front of the TV).

I purchased this in 75” size for my gameroom hooked up to a Xbox X and a soundbar. The picture is amazing! At night with the lights off it can actually get almost too bright so I’ll occasionally need to lower the brightness. I also have a Sony Oled 77” but for a bright and vivid picture the TCL wins. It may not have the infinite contrast of an OLED but it’s as close as I’ve seen. TCL has really stepped up against and is dominating the mid-priced Tv market. I recommend this TV for anyone who wants to watch a show and feel like you’re in the middle of it.

This tv is one of the best I’ve ever bought, I’m a gamer so fps are priority to me and this tv is pretty good at that, 120hz vrr, also color looks stunning and the blacks are oled level, the only complains I would have are that the viewing angels aren’t the best and the stand that it comes with is centered which could be a problem for some users if your tv stand is not solid enough because the tv is very heavy so your tv stand could bend, other than that 10/10 the OS works smoothly too!

Colors are amazing. Local contrast is amazing. Brightness is amazing. Best you ever seen. Did I say the colors are amazing? Close to OLED. Refresh rate is awesome too. However when overclockingto 240 hz some tearing appears in between scene cuts.
The motion of the this TV and AI processing isn't as good as Sony or Samsung, but it's decent.
There is some choppiness in the TV, but the Judder setting set to 6 or 7 fixes this.
The pixel density is also somewhat left to be desired. You can see more jagginess compared to sony, samsung or LG, it's a small difference but noticeable up close.
Fix the processing and pixel density and this TV will be king.
Turn off motion blur reduction it will help with tearing around moving objects.

I bought this to replace a LG OLED that needed to replaced due to burn in. TO start the blacks on this TV are incredible! Mixed in with amazing brightness, this TV gets it right. For gamers (like me) this TV is everything you could expect, checks every box on next gen gaming consoles and PC. The google tv is not bad, as it had all of the channels i needed, I opted not to hook up my Roku. The recent firmware update solved of the picture issues that many have complained about. Mini LED has moved me away from OLED and TCL has done an amazing job with this TV.

Absolutely incredible picture that is ridiculously bright. Even the smooth video processing is actually good. I usually hate this as it causes the soap opera effect but somehow they've figured it out on this TV such that it's preferred over standard.
Surprisingly good audio albeit not as good as a decent sound bar still. The audio is sufficient not to bother with a cheap sound bar. Good bass due to the sub on the back.
The single drawback is that despite all it's processing to assure proper fast motion, there is still some jitter/adjustment/hiccup to someone moving their hand quickly on screen. This doesn't happen all the time and seems to be more of an issue with the various picture standards like Dolby video plus whatever but it does happen.
I got this TV because reviewers said it was a once in a generation fluke where they got it very right. I'm very glad I did. The price vs quality and performance is beyond spectacular. Hopefully TV quality and performance improve further from here but given this incredible deal, it really does seem to be a fluke of an amazing TV.

The TCL QM8 is an incredible 75" TV for the price. The Mini-LED backlighting with over 2,000 dimming zones delivers deep blacks and amazing brightness, while QLED technology makes colors pop. Dolby Vision IQ and HDR10+ make movies look cinematic, and the 120Hz refresh rate with VRR is perfect for gaming. Built-in Google TV is smooth and easy to use, and the hands-free voice control is a nice bonus. With great sound from the built-in subwoofer and a sleek bezel-less design, this TV feels truly premium without the premium price tag.

Many good reviews on TV I don't need to add to, my concern was is it enough of an upgrade over LG 70 inch 4k LED from 2017. And it was, the brightness, clarity, 120 in gaming and sports, all very obvious. Roku person and no issue and enjoy Google tv framework.
Have old TCL tvs in bedrooms still going strong, hope this is as reliable.

Overall, I’m satisfied with my purchase. The online reviews are mostly correct about picture quality and brightness. The two biggest problems I have with it are (1) that the earc port doesn’t passthrough mulitchannel lpcm audio, and (2) that there is no way to turn off motion smoothing when using Dolby Vision IQ (Dolby Vision dark and bright expose more settings to the user, so it’s not a dealbreaker). I’d give it 5 stars if it didn’t have these issues.
