Amazing picture great value. I would suggest somebody if they’re buying a TV to get it.

This TCL tv is the absolute best! I just love watching football and movies on it. Best Buy delivered it when they said they would, installed it perfectly and answered any questions we had. I wish I had one in the bedroom!

It has a beautiful picture but we put a sound bar on it so we don't know about the sound. The 9k doesn't look that much better, just a little brighter. Both look amazing.

Got this for gaming on PS5. Compared it to Bravia 5 (had employee discount on this so was the same price as tcl) but this was the winner for a bright room.

The TCL 98QM8K is NOT interoperable with the Marantz AV7706, period.
This isn’t a “settings issue.”
This isn’t a “try a different cable” issue.
This is broken HDMI-CEC implementation on TCL’s side.
What’s broken (consistently):
Power OFF the TV → Marantz does NOT power off
TV remote → does NOT control Marantz volume
AV7706 just sits there saying “Muting” like it’s confused and disappointed
eARC audio sometimes works, but CEC is completely unreliable
“Quick Start” disable option does not exist on this model/firmware
Changing HDMI Pass Through, resets, cable swaps — all useless
These are core, basic features for a modern home theater setup. If you’re selling a “flagship” 98-inch TV in 2024/2025, HDMI-CEC and eARC should not be a science experiment.
Why this is unacceptable:
The AV7706 works flawlessly with other brands. The moment the 98QM8K enters the chain, CEC falls apart. That points squarely at TCL firmware. Firmware updates don’t fix it — they just reshuffle which feature breaks next.
Bottom line:
The picture is great. The size is incredible.
But if you use a real AV processor and expect your system to behave like a single system, this TV will drive you insane.
Avoid this pairing unless you enjoy manually powering devices and losing basic control every day.
TCL needs to fix their HDMI-CEC stack. Until then, this TV is a compatibility liability.

This tv offers a lot of bang for the buck and is about 85% of a OLED tv. Where it lacks is poor video processing with SD and lower quality formats. The google UI isn't the greatest and not so intuitive.

Enix and Arash were instrumental in my purchases. Enix from TCL was very knowledgeable in my acquisition of the TCL 98 inch QM8K. The TV is very impressive and performs very well.

By far the best (and biggest) TV I have ever owned. Best Buy delivered and setup free of charge. They even price matched for an additional $200 off. Couldn’t have been better!

So far so good. Responsive UI. Excellent blacks, color not quite a natural as my Sony mini led but 98 inches for the same price as my 85. I’m impressed so far.
