Sounds great excellent build quality and very easy to setup. At first I didn’t think the auto lift was working but I watched a video on you tube and found that you have to wait 30 seconds then it works. It also showed how to change the settings if you want it to lift earlier. It’s really just a safety measure in case aren’t paying attention. I would definitely recommend.

    A blast from the past

Incredibly fun to get a blast from the past to play old and new records. The arm comes with easy instructions to assemble. Take your time and be gentle with the needle and teach all those unfamiliar with turntables to place the arm gentle on the records as well as HOW to lift and return to the base so it doesn’t scratch the records. There’s an on/off switch on the top left of the turntable, as well as a switch to indicate what size record you are playing. There’s a tension that’s adjustable to the arm so the needle has the proper weight to touch the record as it’s playing. The arm has a locking feature to secure it. There’s a plastic lid to protect your record player from dust and or protect your records while they are playing. It is NOT recommended you place the record player on a speaker for various reasons. I’ve included a video of the record player in action. It was easy to connect via instructions. Plug and play, meaning you plug the wires into the receiver and speakers and you’re ready to begin listening. I would recommend this product.

This is an excellent sounding table to my ears. It has a beautiful design and nice features given the price point. Why 3 stars, then? I am confused on two things- the cartridge this table ships with, and the integrated phono amp. On the cartridge, you are getting a 2M Red with this table, but this table can certainly handle a better cartridge and I imagine most who buy it are going to want to upgrade the cart. I'm confused why they don't offer it without a cartridge, or package it with a Bronze or something better. Similar issue with the integrated phono amp. It sounds -fine-, but you are buying a table that can sound -great-. There is a similar variant of this table (SL-100C) that doesn't have a phono stage, and in retrospect I wish I'd saved the money and gone with that instead so I would have saved a little money.

Upgraded from an Audio Technica AP-120XUSB to the Technics SL-1500C. Wow! The quality and precision is night and day. My vinyls actually sound more warmer and detailed. The AT sounded way too bright and gave me headaches after an hour of listening. It’s built like a tank and will outlive me. I can’t speak of the Ortofon 2M Red. I use my AT-VM540ml/h. It’s a much better cartridge and stylus. Grab one if you see them available.

Please welcome the TECHNICS SL-1500C to the family! I've wanted a Technics turntable for years but it was always out of reach in one way or another. Up until now, I've been using Audio Technica's AT-LP120 which has served me very well. When the opportunity to grab the Technics finally presented itself, however, I decided to pull the trigger. Because I'm using the same cartridge, amp, and speakers, I tempered my expectations away from anticipating a revelatory change to the sound. After all, the Audio Technica is modeled after the Technics line of turntables to begin with so expecting a huge sonic change might be a recipe for disappointment. As expected, the sound has its similarities. However there are several improvements with the new table: 1. High frequencies are much more detailed. Cymbal crashes are no longer the sibilant experience they once were. 2. The Technics is far less "bright" in its upper frequencies. Extended listening to the AT-LP120 (on my setup) was a pretty fatiguing experience in this regard. 3. The built-in phono pre-amp is completely bypass-able on the Technics. The AT-LP 120's circuitry was such that the phono pre-amp could not be bypassed without physically modding the turntable. Meanwhile, the Technics has two separate sets of audio outputs; one for PHONO and one for LINE OUT. 4. Wow and flutter is no more! When sounds resolve themselves on the AT-LP 120 (particularly at the end of a song), pitch-shift would occur; almost as if the record was warped. Casual listeners might not notice but, once I heard it, I couldn't un-hear it. 5. No "DJ" frills on the new table. Just a well-constructed piece of kit for playing back records. Far more suitable for my purposes. I went with the black model to match my other gear. Overall, very pleased with the new addition!

So far, I’m enjoying playing my vinyl records on this turntable. When compared to my other turntable, the AT-LP3, the sound quality is very nice. I will be purchasing an Ortofon 2M Blue cartridge to take the sound quality to another level. Well made turntable with great sound. Highly recommended.

The Technics SL-1500C is an outstanding turntable with ample capacity for upgrades to serve all your vinyl playback needs for decades to come. In short, this is a premium turntable aimed at newcomers and dedicated audio enthusiasts, alike. First and foremost, the turntable’s construction is nothing short of amazing in both quality and appearance. Weighing in at nearly 22 pounds, the Technics SL-1500C is pleasantly heavy and rigid, resulting in a confidently stable platform for playback. Speaking more technically, the SL-1500C features a coreless direct-drive motor, eliminating the need for mechanical gearboxes and allowing for uncannily smooth movement during operation; in other words, direct-drive results in a cleaner audio output. Additionally, the motor supports the three standard vinyl playback speeds (i.e. 33 1/3, 45, and 78 RPM) and comes with metal 45 adapter, ensuring compatibility with most vinyl. The SL-1500C also features a solid built-in phono preamp alongside dedicated RCA outs if you prefer to use your own dedicated preamp. This option allows newcomers to plug-and-play without much fuss while keeping the customized avenue open for audio enthusiasts, as well. The unit also comes with an Ortofon 2M Red stylus cartridge attached to a removable headshell. While audio enthusiasts may wish to opt for a more premium cartridge right out of the box, the Ortofon 2M is a well-reviewed and well-regarded option which offers lively and accurate playback. Personally speaking, I haven’t had any gripes with the performance of the provided 2M cartridge in the 20-or-so hours of playback I’ve enjoyed thus far. Finally, the SL-1500C features an S style tonearm with a fine metal finish. The various moving components of the tonearm operate shockingly smoothly including the movement of the tonearm itself and the operation of the cue lever. Additionally, the tonearm construction features fine adjustability in each dimension including tonearm balance, stylus pressure, anti-skating tension, as well as height of the tonearm assembly itself. While the assembly requirement alongside all the room for customization and calibration may seem daunting to newcomers, I found that setting up the unit and integrating it into my sound system was a fairly simple endeavor. The only hurdle I had in setup arose from me misreading the directions and erroneously attaching the included auxiliary weight to the back of the tonearm which made it impossible to balance with the included light 2M cartridge. Turns out the auxiliary weight is only for use with particularly heavy aftermarket cartridges. I quickly realized my rather foolish mistake and recalibrated without the auxiliary weight and was ready to go in a few short minutes. The setup and balance-calibration process requires due care for optimal playback, however, after consulting a brief (3-4 minute) setup video on YouTube, I believe most folks should be able to do it without much hassle. Of course, if you’ve had prior experience with turntables, you’ll find the pieces go together as you’d expect, and there aren’t any surprises when it comes to balancing out the tonearm. Speaking to the aesthetics of the turntable, I found the SL-1500C to be a visually pleasing addition to my setup. The white metal finish of the base against the silver metal finish of the tonearm and buttons gives it a classy retro look, while the minimal user-interface keeps things modern and sleek. The unit features only four buttons, a power toggle, a start/stop toggle, as well as the two speed selectors (left for 33 1/3, right for 45, and both for 78 RPM). Each of these buttons feel premium and elicit a satisfyingly tactile click when pressed. While the unit is rather beefy in dimension (~6 inches tall, ~18 inches wide, and ~15 inches deep), I found that its size only serves to further affirm the premium feel of the unit. Overall, I have been impressed with every single aspect of the SL-1500C. Between the crisp and clear playback, the construction and appearance of the unit itself, the quality of the included components, and the ease of setup, it was an absolute joy getting the unit running and experiencing my favorite records through the premium hardware. I would absolutely recommend this product to anyone looking to improve upon their current setup or to anyone looking to get into the vinyl hobby. This unit ensures that users have plenty of room to improve their setup through cartridge replacements and dedicated phono preamp choices as their ears become more discerning while also providing an amazing platform for newcomers to plug-and-play with very little hassle. Outstanding product!

Beautiful table that performs and sounds great

First thing you will notice about the Technics SL-1500C that it is absolutely stunning in white. The table came exceptionally well packaged. It was actually triple boxed and very protected. The table is heavy at around 22lbs. and is very stable. It was very easy to set up. I read the owner’s manual several times before receiving the table so I would be familiar with the procedure. After removing all the components from the box and confirming everything was included the first thing you need to do is remove the protective plastic cover from the bottom of the platter. This cover protects the magnet that is used to seat the platter to the motor. This is a direct drive table so there is not belt to deal with. Once you install the platter and rubber platter mat you will need to attach the headshell and stylus to the tone arm and attach the counterweight to the arm. This process was easy and balancing the tonearm and setting the tracking was straight forward, especially if you have set up a turntable before. The table comes with an Ortofon 2M Red cartridge that has a tracking force of 1.8 grams. After setting the counterweight I used a digital stylus scale to confirm it was correct and it was dead on 1.8g. The table has adjustable feet in order to level the table. The table comes with a very nice dust cover that was the easiest cover to install of all the tables I have. The table has a built-in phono preamp with a switch to turn it on or if turned off you can use the direct phono connection to connect to a receiver or speakers that have their own phono preamp. I connected the table to a pair of powered monitors using the built in phono preamp. The table also has an auto lift function that has a switch to activate this function and can be turned off if you don’t want to use it. This function basically lifts the tonearm once it reaches the end of the record. When I first put on a record, I noticed that the cueing arm was dropping the stylus without any damping. I reread the manual and discovered that there is a height adjustment feature for the tonearm. There is a locking switch that you release that allows you to raise or lower the tone arm. The lock switch was in the open position and the tonearm had lowered to its lowest point. The manual says for the Ortofon cartridge it needs to be set at level 4. Once I raised the tonearm and set it properly and locked the tonearm in place the cueing worked perfect. The table comes with all the cables you need along with an extension weight for heavier cartridges as well as a 45-rpm adapter. It would be nice to have a recess to place the 45 adapter in on the table. The table can play at multiple different speeds including 33, 45 and 78. Unlike the DJ style Technics tables it does not have a strobe or fader switch. This is a very modern looking table. Very clean and uncluttered. There is a power button, start/stop button and switches for the speed control. The motor has a lot of torque and start and stop times are almost instantaneous. This is a very well isolated table. I have not noticed any noise or vibration with the table at all. I connected the table using the built in preamp to a pair of very high quality white powered monitors that use AMT tweeters and aluminum woofers and the sound quality is amazing. The Ortofon cartridge provides good detail and sounds very good for what it is. I do wish Technics had used the 2M Blue for this level of table but the 2M Red can be upgraded to the Blue by just replacing the stylus. I will likely make this upgrade at some point. I have been into vinyl for years and have a large collection of Mobil Fidelity albums as well as other less well produced albums. I will say the better the source the better the sound as poorly recorded albums will not show off the capabilities of this table. If I had on complaint it would be with the cueing lever as it seems to be on the fragile side. Other that that I think this is a great turntable and well worth the investment if you are either new to the hobby or a seasoned veteran. And did I mention this table is beautiful in white.
