    Bring on the Hate

I am fully prepared to absorb, process, and discard all the negativity that will follow this review. So, lets begin. Also, I am not a Sam Raimi fanboy, nor do I don my walls with Tobey Maguire stuff. Rather I am an avid patron of modern film. Which brings me to the question: why? Why is this film so popular? It is mediocre at best. Sony should have relinquished the rights of the franchise back to Marvel where it could rest knowing a reboot was to soon. Instead, greed steps in and we are given this fuzzing mess. Incorporating every cliche, cookie cutter approach possible, Sony has truly smeared the excellence that was Spider-Man 1&2. Note the exclusion of the third because it was actually worse than this film. Suffice it to say, younger, impressionable film patrons will probably never watch such great films as the latter thanks largely to this mess. Good day to you all.

The Amazing Spider-Man is a 2012 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man and sharing the title of the character's longest-running comic book of the same name. It is the fourth to portray Spider-Man in film distributed by Columbia Pictures, Marvel Entertainment and Sony Pictures Entertainment and a reboot of the film trilogy preceding it by 2002–07 that was also distributed by Sony Pictures Entertainment. The film was directed by Marc Webb, written by James Vanderbilt, Alvin Sargent and Steve Kloves and stars Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker / Spider-Man, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curtis Connors, Denis Leary as Captain George Stacy along with Martin Sheen and Sally Field as the uncle and aunt of Peter Parker, Ben Parker and May Parker. The film tells the story of Peter Parker, a teenager from New York City who becomes Spider-Man after being bitten by a genetically altered spider. Parker must stop Dr. Curt Connors as a mutated Lizard from spreading a mutation serum to the city's human population.

ASide from minor plot details this is the same story as the Sam Raimi Spiderman, but that's not what keeps this film from greatness. The problem is Peter Parker himself. Now, Andrew Garfield is fine actor but Peter comes off as being very unlikable and at times downright selfish. For example: whereas in the first Spiderman trilogy Peter became Spiderman to honor his Uncle's last words to him in this version he does it out of revenge. At least that's the impression that I had. Still, I have high hopes that the sequel will see Peter grow into the Spider-man we know, now that the groundwork has been laid.

A good re-take on Spiderman by Andrew Garfield. Emma Stone manages to stay interesting, even as the lesser known Gwen Stacey. The villain was not well developed, and seems to change very quickly from Good Guy Scientist out to help himself and others to Power Hungry Villain who thinks he is better than others, and can "make" everyone better by messing them up too. I didn't understand his sudden motivation change. Overall, a good comic/action movie, and a fresh take on Peter Parker. Just don't look too deep into it.

While I enjoyed Sam Raimi and Tobey McGuire's Spider-Man films, I feel Andrew Garfield is a better Spider-Man than Tobey McGuire (both of them have been surpassed by Tom Holland, though). Was impressed that they went with Dr. Curt Connors for the villain...this was a little more true (who am I kidding, A LOT more true) to the comic version than Raimi's version of the Green Goblin.

It misses the mark in some areas but overall it's a good Spider-Man film. Spider-Man has always been bright and colorful, but this movie drenched him in darkness. The wise cracking aspect of Spidey was back and used well. Peter Parker is back to being a boy-genius again, and it's one of my favorite aspects of the character. It's a strong re-introduction to the character and the looks at ASM2 that have been out there on the internet seem to be addressing some of my concerns. Recommended.

This is a decent flick. Nothing amazing. Not really digging Andrew Garfield as Spidey. As for Emma Stone as Gwen Stacey, I do dig. Saw no reason to reboot this series so quickly. I mainly purchased this most affordable edition to grow my 3D collection. The video quality is a solid 4 out of 5. The 3D aspect I would rate a 3.5 out of 5 stars.

I missed this movie in theaters and held off on buying it until it went on sale. I just didn't see a need for a reboot. I did enjoy seeing The Lizard come to life on the big screen. It reminded me of watching the older Spider-Man cartoon when I was a kid. All in all, not a bad movie, worth a watch if you are a comic or cartoon fan. The action was good and the web slinging was done really well.

It's always great to see Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man on the big-screen and this outing was no exception, but at least 60% of it feels forced and lazy because the studio decided to reboot the franchise instead of just keeping on the pre-established continuity which was working just fine. Here's to hoping the upcoming sequel is able to veer off in it's own direction.

This movie sucks, Emma Stone is a HORRIBLE actress. But whatever, the price was good and it wasn't for me - it was a gift. The plot is meh and the movie is pretty boring. But it was on sale and it made the person I gave it to happy, so yay. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone though. Go watch the old Spiderman movies that Emma Stone didn't ruin w/her bad acting.

I'm not exactly sure we needed a Spiderman reboot so fast but I always hated Kirsten Dunst in that Sam Raimi version. I liked Gwen Stacey played by Emma Stone which was a nice departure from the Mary Jane store. And the new Spiderman I liked more than Tobey McGuire but still, not a fan of this one. Fun, teen angsty reboot (Parker still a nerd, but a skateboarder?) with the purpose of setting up the franchise to make more money. Spidey looks awesome; costume, webshooters, and is witty and uses intelligence when fighting the Lizard. Watch it! Looks like I reached the minimum, so that's enough for me.

The first time I saw this movie I felt it was below average, but after giving it a second chance I realize it can get average primarily for special effects. The plot seemed kinda thin and the acting seemed very average overall. Recently I saw the sequel which is much better in comparison.

I like Spider-Man but this third movie didn't seem to be as captivating as the others. The new Spider-Man movies are much better in every way. If your a fan and need to buy the movie just for your collection go for it but do not buy it thinking it will be like the others.

I enjoyed the first two Tobey Maguire films (sp?). This has a completely different feel. It seems a little more 'grounded' yet playful at the same time. Best Buy had a great deal on the package, and I expect to use the digital versions while traveling. Good package.

I bought this to watch in 3D on my new 3D projector. The 3D is barely noticeable. Other 3D blurays are stunning, this one has barely any 3D effect whatsoever. But, the 2D version is good. It's what you'd expect, and it's a good movie.

I actually liked Toby as spiderman, i felt this kid was a downgrade. Emma Stone is a huge upgrade over Kirsten though so it is about a wash. This movie had great potential but failed to recognize it. The effects with the lizard were particularly underwhelming.

Sony worked hard to revamp the Tobey Maguire Spider-man series. Another origins story within a decade of time is not the brightest idea. The depth of villain is lacking as well. Another additional villain would have been a plus.

Completely unnecessary retooling of a classic character. Acting is awful. The plot is boring. The visuals are impressive but ultimately can not save this mess. The blu-ray itself looks and sounds great and the extras are more than enough.
