Great story characters and soundtrack. This movie is a must own for any music film lovers.

One ofy favorite movies! It has a great soundtrack, & the story is very relatable & inspirational.

Alan Parker has a diverse directing career (Fame, Mississippi Burning, Evita, Angel Heart, Birdy, Midnight Express, Bugsy Malone, Angela’s Ashes), but this tale of a scrappy Irish soul band is my favorite. Adapted from Roddy Doyle’s book, the first in his Barrytown Trilogy (followed by The Snapper and The Van, also good films), it’s hard to imagine the story without hearing the rousing music, most of which was performed by the actor/musicians. (Parker looked for musicians who could learn to act, since the reverse would take much longer! Look for Glen Hansard, who went on to Once fame.) The blu-ray looks and sounds fantastic, and includes many more stories on the making of this unique classic. Highly recommended for fans of soul music, Irish humor, or anyone who ever wanted to start a band.

The Commitments is an old favorite. Dublin slum dwellers discover talents and a sense of community, and we get to enjoy their passionate cross-cultural celebration of Black American Rhythm and Blues. They are reborn, stretching their wings. Based on the Roddy Doyle novel of the same name.

Enjoyable film about forming a soul band in the late 1980s in Dublin. This film will be particularly enjoyed by musicians who have gone through the trials and tribulations of forming a band. The picture quality is very good as is the audio quality. There are plenty of informative special features as well. The music in this movie Is very good and there's even a CD soundtrack that was released (CD Not included) Highly recommended for those interested in this subject.

This is an interesting and funny story about a group of Irish musicians and their struggle to make it big in the 60's. What surprised me was how great they sound as they come together as a band. The music is Soul/Motown and was so good I went out and bought the CD, which I also recommend. Their version of "Try a Little Tenderness" is up their with Three Dog Night's version. Watch it, then buy it and thank me later!

Finally on blu-ray. This is such a fantastic film. I watched it often when it first came out, and was out on video. But then it's just been such a long wait, and I hadn't seen it in years. Santa dropped this off in my stocking, so you can guess what I was watching that night! Great music, authentic acting (since the actors were actually mostly musicians from Dublin), and a fun story.

Classic movie. Great to have it out on blu ray. The extras are really interesting especially getting the directors comments on the cast and seeing what they did years after this movie was made. The music score will make you want to go out and purchase the cd. I'll be ready to watch this again sooner than later.

Taking place in Dublin , several young people come together to form a different type of music band. A new Irish sound , with soul and blues roots. The sound becomes a winner and grows popular with audiences. I love the music on its own , enough to buy both cds. The story is great.

I was a fan of this film when it first came out and have waited a long time for the blu ray upgrade and they did a great job. The extras are done well and the pictures looks good. If you are new to this release give it a shot it still holds up well after all these years.

Great Film that is not known as well as I feel it should be. We have owned it on VHS and DVD and liked it so much we had to get it when it came available on blu-ray. The actors are fantastic musical performers as well and thats why we also own the soundtrack for I and II.

I remember watching this movie a long time ago and waited anxiously for the blu ray release. Not disappointed, and very happy with this release. A bit dated now after watching again, yet I would still recommend it to anyone who loves music which is excellent. Cheers.

excellent look into the challenges of forming and performing in a band. these kids from across the pond opt for american R and B as their as their format and become quite good at it. this movie is sooooo good it is hard to put into words. just grab it and enjoy.

The film is flat out funny. The setting, characters and subject are what makes this movie memorable. Great dialog and great musical performances make watching this movie over and over always an entertaining delight. A must see if you love humor and soul music.

The commitments was one of the greatest music dvd's ever made about the life of a band similar th Eddie and the cruiser's and the doors with one of the better soundtracks out there has a great story very well written and directed with great acting in it.

One of the best movies about music that we enjoy over and over.

What a wonderful film, this is. This is a true crowd-pleaser with some terrific music sung by a very talented group of then-youngsters. It's funny seeing many of them in films now and realizing how young they were when they made this.

Very enjoyable blu about the forming of a band in Dublin dedicated to soul/ rock classics. The script which is largely true and based on real characters is very humorous and the music is great too. Audio DTS-HD 5.1 delivers and the video was very clear with no issues. It is an Alan Parker directed film who also did musical films e.g. Fame and Pink Floyd the Wall. I highly recommend this one. People who like R&R will love it too.

Talk about a great movie...love love this movie.. the plot is good, the music is killer... can't get enough of it. You will be singing the songs, especially Mustang Sally. Well worth waiting for it to be in Blu-Ray format.

One of the best movies about musical groups ever made. This funny, charming Irish comedy is a must-see. So glad it is finally out on Blu-ray. The cast is wonderful, the music is superb and this remains one of the best.
