    Product Rating, not Content Rating

...though the content is great. I've seen the movie a couple times now. I'm posting this to help others like myself who were initially a little concerned. No, the picture in the listing is not what it looks like. It *is* the Pop Art steelbook. So you can be confident that it will match the other two movies' steelbooks.

Da Vinci Code on Blu Ray

    |
    Posted .

All of my many Blue Ray reviews focus solely upon the actual quality of the film from Standard Def DVD quality to the higher standard set for Blu Ray. Summaries of the plot and opinions of the story line and acting can be found in the majority of the other reviews so I do not want to be redundant. My rating is based solely upon the Blue Ray disc's video and audio quality and not the quality of the movie itself. Keep in mind, however, that the quality of what you see and hear is also dependent upon the quality of the TV monitor you are watching on as well as the home theater set up you are using. The monitor I use is a fairly new Panasonic ZT 65" plasma and the amps, speakers, cables, OPPO 103 BluRay player and AVM-60 7.1 Atmos enabled Surround Processor I use are hi end esoteric gear to provide me with a more realistic and objective perspective. The Oppo player is not enabled to transcode Atmos audio so it will default to the next best audio coded, in this case, DTS HD MA 7.1 I am not trying to be a snob here, but just pointing out that what you see and hear is very dependent upon the quality of the gear you are using. Since there are several version releases, this one is based upon the 10th Anniversary release. I do not know if it is the extended version or not as the cover jacket does not say that it is. There are 2 discs with the 2nd disc holding the special features. VIDEO QUALITY...... Resolution quality is very good all around. Color grading is warm even in darker darker scenes and colors are nicely saturated without popping like you would see in a Transformers movie. Small details are clearly defined in hair and skin as well as objects in the darkest of scenes. Mbps rate appeared to average in the high 20's and low 30's depending upon the action taking place. At no time did I see any artifacting of any kind, no stalls in playback and an easy to navigate menu. AUDIO QUALITY.... A very nicely balanced DTS HD MA 5.1 lossless codec was used. Dialogue is clear and precise without it fighting ambience audio and music sound track. That said, I was disappointed that there was minimal use of the surrounds for various foley fx from the left and right as well as rear surrounds. Except for the soundtrack which was fairly immersive, most action comes from the front sound stage with little panning or directionality from the surrounds when there were numerous scene opportunities for these. This is why I lowered the quality rating to 4 stars. EXTRAS..... So many fine extras and I can't say I have watched them all up to this point. There were scenes taken from the extended cut, which implies that this 10th Anniversary edition is not the extended cut. However, watching the extended scenes did not truly do much for the original scene in comparison. Interviews with Ron Howard, the director as well as Dan Brown, the author, provided greater insight into making the film and its background. There was also a 'First Look' at the new film "Inferno' which is little more than an ad for the movie. However, there are enough other interested extra documentaries regarding other aspects of the film that they kept my interest. I do hope this review has been of some help. Thanks for reading.

I just finished the audible book version of this book and wanted to compare it to the movie. I'm a Dan Brown fan and the movie was excellent.

    Great Value

    |
    Posted .

I picked this up even though I already owned the Da Vinci Code on DVD, partly because I wanted to upgrade to Bluray, but more importantly because the value. Getting a Bluray in a steelbook with custom artwork (apparentlyexclusive to Best Buy) for $9.99 was a great deal. I had recently picked up Angels & Demons in a steelbook for the same price as I didn't own it yet, though I didn't necessarily care about the steelbook at the time, it was just a nice plus. But now having found a "matching" version for the Da Vinci Code as well (they have different artwork specific to each movie's plot, but go nicely together) I'll definitely be looking to get a similar version for Inferno when it's released.

    Work of Art

    Posted .

The studio sourced the film for the UHD Blu Ray from the 4K digital intermediate, this is one of the select few releases in the early going of UHD's lifespan not to be upscaled to 4K from, usually, a 2K DI. The results are very impressive. The image is beautiful, with an attractively fine grain structure appearing over the film for the duration. Details are very firm and natural, a bit more revealing and finely intimate than on the 1080p Blu-ray. The film also boasts a very well done and refined Atmos soundtrack (TrueHD 7.1 compatible) that reflects and enhances all of the fabulous qualities of the 1080p release's DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless soundtrack. The Atmos' best attribute is its great sense of coverage and its wider, more open, and inviting stage. I highly recommend this for any home theater enthusiasts. I would give it 4.5 stars if possible.

    Best of the Langdon Series

    |
    Posted .

Fans of Dan Brown's intellectually grounded thriller series involving a symbiologist from Harvard, Professor Robert Langdon have probably already read and seen "The Da Vinci Code," along with the other installments "Angels & Demons" and "Inferno," all starring Tom Hanks under the direction of Ron Howard. This is the first and the best in the series, probably because the novelty of an erudite professor getting involved in international conspiracies that can only be thwarted by solving arcane Renaissance-era puzzles seems freshest and the production breezes along. The others in the series get a bit bogged down trying hard to seem serious and profound, although Hanks and Howard are such pros that they could probably adapt the phone book and make it watchable.

this was the first time watching this movie and i thoroughly enjoyed it. the steelbook packaging is a matte finish and looks really nice and creepy. the bonus features are nice, im not sure if they are just ported over from a previous bluray release, but they also include the teaser trailer and theatrical trailer. i'm also extremely happy to see that there are so many language available to watch the movie in, from spanish castillian to spanish latin american, thai, portugese, all of which come in 5.1. great audio language options. more blurays need to have these options. not just eng and french, french isnt even the second biggest language in the US, its spanish. all in all, a great anniversary release.

    Buy the Standard Blu-Ray

    |
    Posted .

Very interesting story. Tom Hanks does a great job in this film. You do not need to buy the 4k version of this movie as the HDR, increased resolution and immersive sound is not a dramatic improvement over the 1080p version. Save your money on this and buy the standard Blu-Ray.

Even better than the first time

    |
    Posted .

After waiting to see this since the DVD release it became a revelation when I finally watched it again but this time in 4K. Coming from a 4K scan intermediate of the 35mm film it looks amazing! Adding in that Dolby ATMOS to boot is something to not be taken lightly with the likes on Hans Zimmer behind the score. All in all this movie looks absolutely stunning in this format and can't wait to see it again when it gets an 8K release.

    Code Breaking in 4K

    |
    Posted .

If you can get past the plot (and Tom Hanks great hair), this is still an enjoyable adventure with supernatural and religious themes revolving around Dr. Langdon using clues to solve the mystery. The 4K quality is very good and worth an upgrade for a good price.

Great movie.. Now in collectible Pop Art steelbook

Da Vinci code has always been my favorite Tom Hank's movie. It has a nice blend of action sequence as you witness how Hanks navigate through various clue. This new treatment in Pop Art steelbook makes the collection a must have. The also comes with a bonus movie money to see the Inferno. All around, this is a great buy. I am looking forward to watching this again and again.

    Superb Release

I purchased the 4k version because I wanted to know how much better this would be compared to the original Blu ray. I was not at all surprised to see what an improvement it was. The colors are deeper and thre are other subtle details that I did not notice from the original. The results are worth the extra cost.

    Don't pass this up

DaVinci Code...4K...instant buy for me. Got this for 7.99 when I bought Inferno, and I don't regret it one bit. The only thing I didn't like was that this only had the theatrical cut and not the director's cut. Keep your 2009 blu ray if you want that. That's the only reason why I took away a star.

    Packaging is not too good

    |
    Posted .

The only downside to this release is the packaging inside of the steelbook. It only has a holder for one disc, which means you have to stack the discs one on the other, which in turn means the one on top is constantly falling out of its holder. Angels and demons has two holders, one for each disc.

As a movie fanatic, having a title brought into a new and exciting format, makes it an easy choice. The images are enhanced and darker tones have better detail. Also the sounds can be perceived more clearly. Definitely recommend buying this movie. Great movie to collect.

    Good Thriller

This was the best of the trilogy. I have never read the book but I was entertained throughout the entire movie. While I don't believe in the theory on the movie I did find it interesting how the author came about his idea of his "theory". The movie was entertaining from start to finish.

    certainly not as good...

...as the book but absolutely worth the watch. you get all the big drama found in the book and America's Great Living Treasure (Tom Hanks) is fantastic as Dr. Langdon, not a fan of KZJ as the Interpol officer. Everything you imagined while you read the book is put on the reel.
