the Least Favorite of My Anderson Movies
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The transfer is wonderful on blu ray so there is no issue there. the extras are worth having if you are a true andersonphile. They go behind the scenes on the production and give you a glimpse into the magic that made the movie. Although it is the least favorite of my Anderson Films (I just absolutely love the Life Aquatic, Moonrise Kingdom, and the Royal Tenenbaums), it is still a beautiful touching story. A MUST HAVE.

A moving, heartfelt story about brothers
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wes Anderson has written and directed a touching and fascinating look at the relationships between 3 Brothers who were once close and have since drifted apart. Reunited, they go on a mission of self discovery as they search for their Mother and ultimately learn a lesson about letting go of emotional baggage in order to successfully move forward in life. Captivating from start to finish.

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A huge fan of Wes Anderson films, the Darjeeling Limited is one of my favorites. A comedy-drama that features Adrien Brody, Owen Wilson & Jason Schwartzman - it is a great story of family, specifically brothers, and the search for happiness.

A Trip Worth Taking
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was about to start by writing that either you like Wes Anderson's quirky, tongue-in-cheek, strangely endearing movies or you don't. Then I realized that I disliked "The Royal Tenenbaums" as much as I liked "Rushmore" and "The Life Aquatic," so who knows? You just might enjoy a ride on "The Darjeeling Limited" even if Anderson's quirky characters and deadpan irony have left you cold in the past. Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody and Jason Schwartzman are three brothers sharing an Indian train compartment. Wilson, his head bandaged after a motorcycle accident, has arranged the would-be spiritual trip in an attempt to reconnect with the others following the death of their father. That's made a little tougher by the fact that none of the brothers trusts the other two, they readily betray confidences at the earliest opportunity, and they just plain don't seem to like each other much. Somehow, all of this simmering resentment, brotherly backstabbing and frequent frustration is incredibly entertaining. Wilson is excellent at portraying a kind of hippie control freak, one who visits Indian temples on a schedule dictated by a laminated daily agenda. Brody is the kind of guy who buys a poisonous snake at a market on a whim, wears his dead father's prescription sunglasses all the time, and has abandoned his wife at a rather crucial juncture. Schwartzman is the hangdog but earnest romantic who manages to hook up with an Indian tea-server and thinks he's found true love. The movie takes what could have been a maudlin turn more than halfway through, but the tragedy succeeds in showing that even brothers as shallow as these aren't completely irredeemable. Interesting, different, funny and thoughtful. With laughs.

Another dysfunctional family from Wes Anderson
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Did Wes Anderson come from a dysfunctional environment as a child? It might explain why all of his characters come from dysfunctional families or are socially awkward. I'm not complaining though. It's these quirks that make his films so unique and enjoyable. While The Darjeeling Limited isn't as good as Bottle Rocket, Rushmore or The Royal Tennenbaums it is still a pretty good movie with great music. If you haven't seen it yet i would recommend renting it and watching it before you decide you'd like to buy it.

Good movie, but not Anderson's best
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wes Anderson has created many great movies over the years, and while The Darjeeling Limited is a good film, it lacks some of the soul that has made the director's other movies fantastic. Basically, if you like Anderson's other movies, you will like this albeit you may wish for a bit more out of it. And if you have never seen any of Anderson's other movies, I suggest starting with Rushmore or Moonrise Kingdom.

A Hit, Miss, or Huh?
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My title says it all... after watching it you'll either love it (for perhaps it leaves a warm feeling), strongly dislike it, or be totally dumbfounded by the strangeness and think "huh? that's it? I don't get it." Me? I thought "huh?" all throughout the movie. The plot is something like I have never heard of before... three brothers who went their different paths after their father died reunite in India in a quest to be reunited with their mother, who stepped out on the family and became a nun in India. The relationship between the three brothers is quite strange, but genuine. Each brother has a distinct character that follows him around and never ceases to stop... There is a lot of silence in the movie, and I would definitely link that to all the SYMBOLISM in the movie. SYMBOLISM is the backbone of the story. It may justify some of the random all-of-a-sudden scenes. Now, by attempting to explain what makes this movie weird, I would just confuse you more. This is why I would recommend someone else this movie... If you like it, you really will love it... so why not give it a chance? If you are in the right mood, it may be well worth the watch.

Another wonderful movie from Wes Anderson
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This movie is typical of Wes Anderson's unique style. Jason Schwartzman, Owen Wilson, and Adrien Brody really manage to show a brotherly bond. Although it is a fantastic story, there is less humor than Wes's other movies such as The Royal Tenenbaums and The Life Aquatic. This DVD includes the short 'Hotel Chevalier' which can be watched either before or after the main film to add a bit of depth. I suggest watching it before. This is a fantastic film.

Okey...but...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This movie seems as if it would have been great if I hadn't seen Life Aquatic or The Royals it just seems like a repeat to me...I know it's a different story base and it's Wes Anderson and that's what he does...but, maybe I just wanted something different from the same person? It was the same idea with a little added tragedy (dead kid) that seemed played down and frankly aggravated me. I don't know...I do own it, so I will watch it once more before I fully decide. But, a word of warning for those who wanted more than just another Wes Anderson movie. He's great, I just wish he'd expand or evolve.

Darjeeling Is Limited
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There may well be something here. Anderson is a respected director. But I would have much have preferred a long version of the Hotel Chevalier which is on the DVD to be played before the film. That Natalie Portman is in the short is part of that. She is the most compelling character in this combination film and short. A journey of three brothers to find their Mother who has become a Christian nun living in India is a nice bunch of symbology. And there may be more. Like all of that luggage. But if you want symbolic luggage go watch Joe Versus the Volcano with the unsinkable luggage. Perhaps there is also something in this about genetic traits and psychological traits passed on to siblings by each parent. And then there is another generation of male born. I almost want to watch the film again just to decipher what Anderson was intending. But quite frankly Wilson gets on my nerves. I'll wait for the full version of Hotel.

Worth a watch.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Darjeeling Limited isn't Wes Anderson's best movie by any stretch of the imagination but it's still worth a watch, or if you're a movie collector like myself, a purchase.
