OPne of the greatest films ever made

The Dark Knight is the start of a new era for comic book films, and even for summer blockbusters. A smart, dark, realistic film, it seems like an antithesis to the flashy, shallow entertainment that generally fills the multiplexes in the hot summer months. This is the kind of film that you go out of your way to refer to as a "film". The story begins about a year after the events of Batman Begins. Batman (Christian Bale) and Lieutenant Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) have formed an unofficial alliance and are hard at work to take down the Gotham mob, who are weker than ever. Along comes a mysterious bank robber known as the Joker (Heath Ledger, in the final performance of his career, and one of the most memorable ever) who has spent the last year stealing mob money for fun and now comes to the crime bosses of the city with an interesting proposition: he will take out the Batman for half of their loot. They mock him at first, but soon are forced to accept his deal. However, as the Joker's crimes become deadlier and more out-of-control, everyone in Gotham realizes that the only one who can stop this menace is Batman, who in the Joker finds his deadliest foe: a maniac without fear who obeys no rules and will stop at nothing to bring chaos upon Gotham and take the very souls of its citizens. Meanwhile, Harvey Dent, the new District Attorney of Gotham joins Gordon and Batman in their quest to stop the mob, but is soon forced to make terrible sacrifices and must even risk his relationship with Rachel Dawes, who is Bruce Wayne's childhood friend. If the story sounds complex, it's because it is; wonderfully so. Never before has a summer action film has such varying layers of depth. It thrills and engages the mind. The performances range from good to great; Ledger's turn as the Joker will likely net him an Oscar nomination or victory for Supporting Actor. The Dark Knight is the farthest thing from disposable entertainment, and its high level of accessibility to a mass audience merely adds to its greatness. This really is the Godfather II of graphic novel adaptations.

    The best Batman yet.

Chris Nolan and Christian Bale came back to true form in this sequel to the new, revamped, Batman franchise. Christian Bale does a consistent job on Batman, but his voice for the character has been reduced to almost a growl. It's overdoing it just a bit, but the character comes across non the less. Caesar Romero and Jack Nicholson has brought their creative renditions of the Joker (and BOTH are one of the greatest actors in their own right), but Heath Ledger nailed The Joker right on point. The Joker is not a comic character or some psychopathic clown, but just a person who's totally demented and the dangerous part-The Joker KNOWS it. Heath Ledger's approach was simple and to the point, but Heath made The Joker his own. The story has many twist and turns as Batman including the cops and criminals, are all caught in The Jokers web of manipulation and deception. No one is spared against The Joker's sadistic cruelty. He creatively uses their strengths and weakness against each other to create a chaotic world for his control and amusement. The story has a tendency to drive the point of how people handle situations in the moment of crisis a little to hard, but it gets the job done. The composition within the cinematography are fantastic although I would have favored a more edgier, more contrasty lighting as seen in Road to Perdition shot by the late Conrad Hall. The fact that most of the stunts were shot live as opposed to CG added to the flavor and "realism" in Batman. Heavy CG use would have reduced the impact of the character and the story. The use of the Chicago location couldn't have been more perfect as opposed to the "Cabinet of Dr. Calagari" inspired set design of Tim Burton's Batman. Over all I give Batman: The Dark Knight a high rating and must see for all fans of Batman and all fans of good crime movies.

One of my most favorite movies I've ever seen. The movie is dark and disturbing and the acting all around is great. All the actors did a great job, but unfortunately Maggie Gyllenhaal (sp?) still couldn't put life into the Rachel Dawes character. She did better than Katie Holmes in Begins, but I think the character in general is just weak. Eckhart did an amazing job as Dent, though I think they rushed what happens at the end just to wrap up that story in this movie. However, the whole movie was stolen by Ledger who puts out one of the creepiest performances I've ever seen and easily propels himself into one of the greatest villains of all time easily. This performance far surpasses Nicholson's version, though they are two completely different Jokers. Oldman steps up as Gordon and one scene in particular makes you cheer out loud. Caine is still a heartwarming Alfred that makes you smile and feel good, and of course Bale still delivers as the best Batman yet. Storywise, it's the Joker breaking down Gotham and showing everyone that they are just steps away from completely breaking and becoming villains themselves. He goes for Dent in particular because he's seen as the best among the people who inspires hope. But in his way is the Batman, and Joker is willing to bring him down to fulfill his goals of anarchy. Really, it's an amazing movie with the only complaint I've really heard is being that it's too long, which I sortof agree with. They set it up nicely for a third film if they wish to do so, and hopefully they do (and more likely will after the success of this film). This movie is action packed, character-driven, heart-felt, and everything you could want in a film wrapped into a 2 1/2 hour bundle of excitement. Definately a must buy on my list.

While plenty has been said about The Dark Knight and how amazing it is, this collectors edition set with the Batpod can frustrate some Blu-Ray owners. Some of you out there are like me and purchase the biggest, baddest, top-of-the-line edition of anything we are going to purchase, but likewise, we keep our collections orderly and like everything to be neat, uniform, and alphabetical on our shelf. I know this doesn't apply to everyone, but some of you reading this are in the same boat as me. Just know that this will not go nicely into your collection, as the discs' case is built directly into the figurine. No alternative like the collector's editions for Blade Runner or Hellboy 2 or even the previous collector's edition for Batman Begins. Great movie, great extras, but just remember that if you're very particular about how your collection is organized, you're gonna have a figurative square peg to somehow get into a round hole. I WOULD NOT recommend the CE to someone who was as particular as I am, but would gladly recommend it to everyone else.

This movie was absolutely amazing!!! This is at the top of my wife and I's list of greatest movies ever made! Not to take away from Batman Begins, but this one was better. (But then again, it's really just one movie in two parts.) I personally have to be honest, when I heard Heath Ledger was going to be the Joker, I was upset. Not only because he had never really played a bad guy (Ned Kelly doesn't count), but because I didn't think he would live up to Jack Nicholson's Joker. Boy was I wrong! Not only did I eat my words, but he surpassed J.N.'s Joker! Don't get me wrong, I'll always love and appreciate J.N.'s Joker. But, H.L.'s Joker was much darker and more sinister, as he was originally meant to be. I also thought they did an outstanding job, (not only character wise, but special effects wise), with Two-Face. I love the new Batman films because they've started all over, making the films more dark and serious the way they were intended. Much like the Punisher, Batman was always suppose to be a sort of a bad good guy. Not the comedical Batman of the past, or the goofy Batman from the 50s and 60s spoofs. This is the REAL Batman, as it was intended! Heath Ledger actually was so into character that it messed with him mentally, and eventually led to his untimely death (allegedly). But, he will live on in this film. The performance of a lifetime, he will be missed! This is a must own movie, I highly recommend!!! I also recommend Batman Begins and look forward to the Dark Knight sequel. (From what I understand, Johnny Depp will take the role of the Riddler, I can't wait!)

In response to the only "bad" review to this movie, everyone did a great job acting even though I would have rather had Katie Holmes at Rachel, but the Maggie did a good job for that part. What made the other actors/actresses possibly not look as good is Heath Ledger. Heath Ledger as the Joker, not one person can honestly say that they thought he was going to perform as well as he did. Never in his career has he starred as a character as dark, twisted, and crafty as the Joker. His role outshined the other characters, but with exception to Rachel, you couldn't have picked a better cast for this movie. Most of us have seen the movie, but in regards to those who haven't I won't spoil it but I will say that Aaron Eckhart did an amazing job bringing out his other side throughout the movie. (hint, hint) This is the darkest chapter of the Batman saga, with the perfect combination of action, suspense, and drama. After what happened to Heath Ledger, can we expect another movie with this fantastic cast directed by Christopher Nolan? I know that this series can't end like this...after all that is what happened with the Michael Keaton series. Two good gothic style batman movies were made and they were amazing especially the first one, but with Michael Keaton gone...it took an enitrely different angle and I was not much of a fan of those movies. Now with the Christian Bale series, I have been nothing less than astonished by what Christopher Nolan has done and there must be a third movie or else DC movies is pretty much done for another twenty years before they remake the movies again.

I bought this movie the day after the release (12/10) and when I opened it, i found 3 disc inside (how cool is that? for $27 what a great buy). The first dis has the movie, which is great, I really liked this movie, I went to the theater 2 times because the movie was that good, from effects to history, this is not like the other type of superhero movie, Batman is a normal guy, no powers, that's what make this movie so great, very very realistic, this is a very long movie but you'll enjoy every minute of it the history really gets your attention, this movie, to me, is more like you describe yourself with the villai, in this case, The Joker, Heat Ledger made such a great character, such a psycho maniac criminal (Why so serious?) This is a most have in your collection, and with the blu ray power, this movie is just amazing, + this disc has so many extras but not too many about the joker, which is very disappointed, but the movie is really worth it. The second disc, is really amazing, it has every single trailer the movie had, from theater to tv commercials, also has such a big story line about Batman, his villains, his life (Bruce Wayne) and lots of more info. very very packed with more hours to still watching. The third disc, is a digital dvd copy you have to enter to the web and register it, i still havent done it, but I'm sure it'll be fine. If you are looking to buy this movie but knowing much about it, well i hope this help you out, you will enjoy this movie a lot, go to Best Buy, buy a PS3 and get this movie, i highly recommend this film, it just GREAT!

    Costume Design

    Posted
    Bonic08

Costume designer Lindy Hemming described the Joker's look as reflecting his personality — that "he doesn't care about himself at all"; she avoided designing him as a vagrant but still made him appear to be "scruffier, grungier", so that "when you see him move, he's slightly twitchier or edgy."[20][10][20] Nolan noted, "We gave a Francis Bacon spin to [his face]. This corruption, this decay in the texture of the look itself. It's grubby. You can almost imagine what he smells like."[80] In creating the "anarchical" look of the Joker, Hemming drew inspiration from such countercultural pop culture artists as Pete Doherty, Iggy Pop, and Johnny Rotten.[81] During the course of the film, the Joker only once removes his make-up, causing it to become more unkempt and resemble an infection as it worsens.[10] Ledger described his "clown" mask, made up of three pieces of stamped silicone, as a "new technology", taking much less time for the make-up artists to apply than more-conventional prosthetics usually requires—the process took them only an hour—and resulting in Ledger's impression that he was barely wearing any make-up at all.[

I watched this in the theaters and then waited longingly for the blu-ray version. And let me say, it does not disappoint. The picture and sound is terrific and there is real acting talent in this movie. Of course Heath Ledger's performance as the joker is spine-tingling and awe-inspiring. Christian Bale reprises his role as batman and does an excellent job and Aaron Eckhart played the role of Harvey Dent perfectly. I love this movie. For those complaining about the aspect ratio changing during the movie, this is because 6 of the scenes in the Dark Knight were shot with imax cameras so that the entire giant imax screen would be completely filled during key scenes. I saw it in imax and the use of these cameras provided a stunning full-screen image. For those who watched it in a normal theater the aspect ratio always stayed the same and didn't switch back and forth. Similarly, if you get the blu-ray version the aspect ratio will switch to take up your entire widescreen TV during the scenes filmed with imax cameras, if you get the DVD then the aspect ratio will always stay the same.

I saw The Dark Knight from start to finish and I loved it. I truly loved at the end where Batman kills Joker and he kills Two-Face and this was one of my favorite Batman movies that I ever liked. I know this movie is close to 8 years since they made this movie back in 2008 and it had the late Heath Ledger playing the role of the Joker and for me, I cried when I saw his last movie. The Joker was the best villain that I ever liked from the Batman movies and I will always remember Ledger for playing that role. Thank you very much and I will recommend this movie to my friends and my family, too and I will see this movie again with them. I will see it 200 times more because it's my favorite movie ever. Yours truly, Zaida Quijano.

If you are a comic or Batman fan and haven't seen this movie yet, you honestly need your head examined for brain damage lol...this is, hands down, THE best Batman movie EVER. Bale is on point as a well-balanced Batman/Bruce Wayne, Oldman is his typical awesomeness in the role of Gordon...and Ledger...Heath Ledger, who many were certain would bomb out as the Joker, took a decades old character who is perhaps the greatest, most iconic,comic-related villain of all time, and completely made him feel fresh, vibrant, complex, and truly interesting once again after decades of stagnation with the character. This is what EVERY comic book movie should strive to be in terms of story, pacing, quality and entertainment value. Watching this movie will make you look at all the other comic book moves that came before it (and many that came after it) with a more critical eye and, with many, you will see them somewhat diminished when compared to this instant classic.

The follow-up to Batman Begins, THE DARK KNIGHT reunites director Christopher Nolan and star Christian Bale, who reprises the role of BATMAN /BRUCE WAYNE in his continuing war on crime. With the help of LT. JIM GORDON and District Attorney HARVEY DENT,BATMAN sets out to destroy organized crime in Gotham for good. The triumvirate proves effective, but soon find themselves prey to a rising criminal mastermind known as THE JOKER, who thrusts Gotham into anarchy and forces BATMAN closer to crossing the fine line between hero and vigilante. Heath Ledger stars as archvillain THE JOKER, and Aaron Eckhart plays Dent. Maggie Gyllenhaal joins the cast as RACHEL DAWES. Returning from Batman Begins are Gary Oldman as Gordon, Michael Caine as Alfred and Morgan Freeman as LUCIUS FOX. There are so many stand out performances but this is Heath Ledgers legacy.....the perfect scary Joker...after all some people just like to watch the world burn.

Probably the best of the Batman trilogy, in my personal opinion. Heath Ledger does an incredible job portraying The Joker. There is a fantastic cast of characters and there is seriousness to the movie, not continual comic remarks that you encounter in other shows. In terms of 4K presentation, all three of this Batman series looks incredible and clean. What I like the most is that the screen presentation switches between full screen and widescreen, which I think is a great way for a producer to focus in on details when a widescreen presentation isn't necessary. It also gives us TV owners the ability to enjoy the full real estate of our screens when widescreen isn't necessary. When you have a 4k HDR TV, full-screen looks so good. I have nothing but praise for all three of this Batman series. Get it - NAO!

WOW. (good wow). This movie is not for younger viewers, parents be warned - this really should have been rated R. So watch it first yourselves and then decide if your kids might be able to handle it. (Some 8 year olds may handle this movie well, and some 16 year olds may not, or even 26 year olds - refering to a friend of mine. She had one word to describe the movie - I 'd already seen it - 'scary.' I had had forwarning that it was going to be a fairly accurate portrayal of a 'psycotic clown' and that it was gooing to be a really 'dark' movie, so I guess I just expected it to be what it was.) Anyway, this is a great movie, though I don't usually watch stuff this 'dark.' However, I do believe it to be a rather accurate view of the batman world. Or at least one more perspetive of it. I hope if this director / actors / writers continue with this batman saga, that they will take care with it (and not end up with another X3 fiasco). So, great movie, but might not be for everyone. Goognight everybody!

Arguably the greatest superhero film of all time, it brought devastating darkness to the masses, becoming quite easily the most depressing film to ever make over $1 billion at the worldwide box office. In the scene when The Joker gatecrashes Bruce's party, Michael Caine was originally supposed to have a line when the elevator arrives but he was so spooked by Heath Ledger's appearance that he didn't speak. Caine referred to him as "terrifying". Heath Ledger actually designed the look of The Joker himself, using make up he'd bought from a local shop. Christopher Nolan was so impressed that he tasked the movie's makeup team to recreate it themselves. One of The Joker's creepiest tics in the film was his frequent lip-licking and cheek sucking. This wasn't intentional but rather Heath Ledger's genuine reaction to the uncomfortable prosthetics. But he was told to keep it for the character.

Here is the deal... YOU MUST BUY THIS MOVIE!!! All I can say is that this movie is PHENOMINAL. While my movie friends may disagree with it being the best movie ever, they cannot disagree with the late and certainly great Heath Ledger for his role as the notorious Joker. It is a shame, as you will definitely see, that Heath is not around to see his work so talked about, probably more so than most actors in a LONG time! I am saddened by the fact that he isn't around to continue making films at the caliber he brought "The Dark Knight" to. This movie is certainly going in my movie collection as soon as it comes out, simply because this has been one of the greatest movies I have seen in a LONG time... even better than the "Transformers" 2007. If anything, you should simply buy this movie as a testament to the man that Heath Ledger was as a phenominal actor. To put it lightly, I would be stupid not to recommend this movie to ALL of my friends, their friends and so on. BUY IT!!!

Just when I thought they couldn't outdo BB, I was wrong again! The Joker/Heath Ledger comes to Gotham to create absolute chaos in the city, just as Harvey Dent/Arron Eckhart, Batman/again Christian Bale and Jim Gordon/Gary Oldman almost restore order. I didn't think anyone could outact Jack Nicholson as the Joker, boy! I'm glad to be wrong there. Jack's version was way over the top as the Joker, Heath Ledger was somewhat more subtly menacing, and he appears to hold his own. Christian Bale still does a good Batman, even with his raspy voice, but that bothered my friends more than it did me, I understood he did that for disguising purposes. Can't forget to mention Gary Oldman as Jim Gordon, because so many times he plays an over the top villian, he's very good in this role as well. Special mention must be made to Arron's Harvey Dent, the burn-make up is very creepy and convincing. Chris Nolan and David S. Goyer once again do a very good direction/script, check it out!

It's about time that they made a Batman movie for adults.I never really liked the others that much. Not that I hated them, I just felt that they were a little childish at best. Now this one is great on all levels. It is like watching two movies for the price of one. The villian Heath Ledger ranks up there with the best of them. He was absolutely , most definatlely beliievable as the joker. It's so obvious that he worked very hard at this role. He plays a sociopath so well, that you hate him, but still want to see more of him.Morgan Freeman, Christian Bale, Aaron Eckhart, Michael Caine, Maggie Gyllenhaal were all very good as well, but Heath Ledger was what made it work !! One of the best movies I've ever seen. Don't miss this one, It's very entertaining.

Batman has been my favorite superhero for a long time, and Batman begins showed me someone had a clue on how to film Batmans dark story. This movie just solidifies the attempt by puting the all time favorite supervillian of mine into play, The Joker! Heath Ledger in my opinion did a slightly better job than Jack Nicholson did but this movie follows more of the Dark Knight comic series than the old Comic/TV series lighter style Batman. For anyone who says that either of the two above mentioned characters are not super hero or villian you are sadly mistaken. This movie shows how people can become either a super hero albeit an antihero, or super villian. This movie is more realistic than any superhero film that I have ever seen. Human nature is seen on both sides of the fence in this film. This is one of the best if not the best I have ever seen in my lifetime, and I have seen a lot of films. Highly recommended for anyone
