Awesome movie! I still jumped multiple times even though I‘ve seen the movie several times in the distant past. A good movie to watch for Halloween.

My first excursion into horror ...

It was a stormy evening (quite literally) on Lake Huron in a small pop-up camper, relentlessly shaken by a vigorous autumnal wind, and I was a boy yet to the hit the "double digits". Being unable to play outside due to the torrential downpour that evening, my father had decided it would instead be a good idea to rent a movie and "stay in" for the evening. As such, we went out and drove a good 20 minutes to the closest strain of civilization - a gas station (yes, in those days you could rent movies just about anywhere, including gas stations) - to look at their tapes. After mulling over the somewhat slim selection for a few minutes, my father had decided to go with John Carpenter's The Fog for our cinematic venture that night and, as they say, the rest is history. Despite the fact that I am in my 30s now, I still actutely remember watching that movie on our tiny and portable TV, engrossed and horrified all at once while the film's length went on. By the end of it I was so awe-struck and terrified that I laid in my bed for at least a couple hours before falling asleep, imagining that every large gust of wind that shook our camper may very well have been Blake and his spectral caravan, and ardently hoping that wasn't the case. Many years have passed since that fateful night but The Fog's impact still remains with me to this day, for it was that very experience that planted the seed within my bosom that has since grown into a well-nourished and ever-blossoming love affair with horror. I guess it's safe to say there was something in the fog after all, no?

This used to scare me as a kid. That opening sequence with John Houseman is just about as forbidding as one could get at that time. Of course horror movies are so much different now (over the top gore), but like the original Halloween, scary without a lot of slashing & gore. Scream/Shout Factory releases are awesome. They have done a great job with releasing quality Blu-rays of classic horror movies, and this one is no exception. I had a crappy DVD version for a long time so upgrading to HD was great. Granted the limited budget & production values, the Blu-ray quality is good. John Carpenter is 1 of my favorite directors, so this is just one of many of his movies that I've recently purchased.

My wife turned me on to this movie and I'm glad she did. It is full of both big-time actors/actresses as well and very good supporting A/A who do a bang-up job. The movie style is more classic cinema/film-noir for a suspense/horror movie. If you have to have modern style CGI and effects than please don't bother with this one. The character development is great and it makes me wonder why this movie isn't applauded more. Perhaps because it doesn't really break a lot of new ground even when it was released. Sometimes though I really am not looking for another Quentin Tarantino-esque movie. Even his stuff is old-hat now. Why not enjoy something that's well done and has Jamie Lee Curtis in it?

So awesome! Adrienne Barbeau and Jamie Lee Curtis are fantastic. Strong female heroines of horror. The legendary Hal Holbrook, John Houseman, Janet Leigh and Tom Welling (Smallville), too! Not too campy, definitely a classic. Just the right amount of scare and suspense. John Carpenter and Debra Hill definitely made a great film. Also, there isn't really any sex, drugs and women parading around in their skivvies. Not that I mind that in other movies, but it's great to be able to find an 80's horror film I can watch with my impressionable pre-teen niece. I saw this movie about twenty years ago for the first time and I was hooked. So thrilled when I stumbled upon it on Best Buy randomly looking for interesting movies to buy.

This is an excellent release. "The Fog" has had many home video releases but "Scream Factory" knows what fans want in a release and they deliver. What is nice bout the film is that they include some of best extras that previous DVD releases had. They also included new extras including new interviews and a "Horror's Hollowed Ground" with Sean Clark. That man always does a great job. To me if he is featured on any home video release the .then its well worth buying. THE MGM RELEASE however has the audio commentary from John Carpenter and the late Debra Hill which was not carried over to the Scream Factory Edition. This was a double dip for me, cause I am a steel book collector, so I had to pick this up day one.

Another classic film from John Carpenter. The Fog is another one of his greats where there's no explanation of what's going on and it isn't needed. The horror is creepy and slow and it just burns at the right pace. If you haven't seen the original fog, you owe it to yourself to watch this movie.

Featuring a great cast (Jamie Lee Curtis and Adrienne Barbeau especially) and it will have you hiding behind your hands at numerous points in the movie. This horror film, from the legendary John Carpenter, is well written, well acted and the special effects hold up very well, even by todays standards. This is a must for any horror fan. Highly recommended!

The Fog is a perfect Halloween movie. It drips with spooky atmosphere, with a beach side town at night, creepy campfire stories told by a grizzled fishermen, and LOTS of fog. The movie is suitably eerie in its direction and score, with John Carpenter now a seasoned master of his craft. The characters (except the lead) are unfortunately bland and or unlikable. But they're not what you watch the movie for. You watch it for red eyed ghost fishermen silhouettes coming out of the fog to murder people with fishhooks. And that is exactly what you get. This blu-ray release from Scream Factory is also loaded with great bonus features for fans of the film, and even a reversible cover with the original 80's poster. Highly recommended.

This is my favorite film by director John Carpenter. This is just a good creepy ghost story with plenty of scares. Well photographed by Dean Cundey accompanied by a great score by Carpenter and a solid cast headed by Adrienne Barbeau, Jamie Lee Curtis, Janet Leigh, Tom Atkins, John Houseman and Hal Holbrook. This is a slow burn film that builds suspense and is not overly gory. The transfer is great and the special features are great to watch. A great movie for a Halloween get together.

The Fog (also known as John Carpenter's The Fog) is a 1980 American horror film directed by John Carpenter, who also co-wrote the screenplay and created the music for the film. It stars Adrienne Barbeau, Jamie Lee Curtis, Tom Atkins, Janet Leigh and Hal Holbrook. It tells the story of a strange, glowing fog that sweeps in over a small coastal town in California, bringing with it the vengeful ghosts of mariners who were killed in a shipwreck there exactly 100 years before.

    THE FOG

The Fog has never quite attained the cultural cachet that Carpenter's Halloween has, but it's a very entertaining and often fairly spooky entry in Carpenter's filmography. There's an undeniably silly aspect to some of the scares, but the moral fiber of the film is where it derives some unexpected power from. This new Collector's Edition features excellent video and audio and comes jam packed with great supplements. Highly recommended.

This is not a GREAT horror movie by any means, but it is 80s John Carpenter, which in my opinion, automatically earns it 2.5/5 minimum. My fav thing about it is the music, but the story is interesting enough to keep me interested. I've had this on DVD for years and this is the first time I've had it on BluRay. I rewatch it every so often The video quality of this movie is pretty clear compared to the DVD.

I've been a big horror movie fan since I was a little girl. Always loved this one, the original is truly creepy, and even though the special effects may not be as gory as the remake, the spooky atmosphere is far superior. Some times old school is best.

If you're looking for a spooky film for the Halloween season, or just because, The Fog will certainly not let you down! If you enjoy any of John Carpenter's work, you won't want to miss this film about a small town that you'd love to live in, until the dark secret of it's founding is exposed... I would like to tell you more, but you should experience The Fog for yourself!

This is one of my favorite movies ever. Finally got it on DVD. I seem to watch it about once a month so I might as well own it. Carpenter is one if my favorite directors and composers. The soundtrack fits so well with the movie and is just as important as the writing and acting. It's got pirate ghosts... PIRATE GHOSTS!

One of John Carpenter's best films. With an all star cast that keeps your heart rate up. Carpenter uses sound as much as sight to ensure the viewer is never prepared for what will happen, you look left and the scare comes from the right. Leaps and bounds better than the remake that came out in the early 00's.
