A Must for Movie Fans
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Before purchasing this Blu-ray (2 for $10) I only had a VHS copy recorded from cable. What a great treat this was to see it again in all its digital glory. And the extra's were full of great information and stories too. Both about the film itself and the real life crime story which inspired it. Great all around; directing, acting, story, music and tone. Still exciting to watch and really hasn't aged since 1971.

A great cop film
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is considered one of the best cop films ever made. It was a breakout role for Gene Hackman, who plays the real life NYC detective who cracked a major drug ring. Roy Scheider plays his partner (before he became famous through the Jaws films). "French Connection" also features one of the best car chase films ever made as Hackman pursues a bad guy who is on a subway.

Nice to have original color timing, get both
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Its a rare position to be in to have two releases of the same film that offer very different visual treatments of the film. I for one enjoyed the original bluray and found the explanations for the changes to be very well thought out. With this edition you are able to see a transfer of the movie that more closely replicates what was initially shown in theaters. If only fox would do this with some of their other catalogue titles...

Brilliant Classic!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This stellar sequel is brilliant where most sequels fail miserably. Gene Hackman reprises his role as the edgy NY detective Popeye Doyle with some of the most incredible acting of his career. With out giving anything away, there are a set of scenes where his acting is so palpably realistic that you can literally feel the gut wrenching pain he's experiencing! It's a MUST SEE for Hackman and detective flick fans!

This version is mastered correctly
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This film is a classic, hands down. So, I won't go into what it's about or what makes it great. What I will say, is that this blu-ray version is much better than the original release - the color palate has been corrected. It has all of the extras from the original release, except for the excellent BBC documentary on the making of the film, which is the only reason I'm keeping that one as well.

Great picture and sound quality
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've never seen French Connection and thought I would get it since it's been transferred to better quality and I must say, I should have seen this movie a long time ago. It's really good and engaging. The car chase was great.

Hard raw and exciting
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review."The French Connection" is a no-holds-barred story of chasing international drug smugglers. Excellent performances by Gene Hackman, Roy Scheider, and the whole cast. As well as the infamous car/train chase by which, ever since, has set the standard for all vehicle chase scenes. The blu-ray version is visually stunning, without losing the grittiness and 'dirty' feel of the film.

There is nothing like the French Connection.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There is nothing like viewing the movie French Connection because it's timeless. It been around for quite a while since 1971 and it is still very enjoyable. Gene Hackman, Fernando Rey, Roy Scheider made sure that this movie earned the 8 Academy Award nominations and winning 5. Their performances as actors were super and the Director got the Best Director Award for the movie.

Great 70’s Thriller
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Friedkin really knows how to make films, period. This is an awesome 70’s crime Thriller. With Hackman and Schieder you really can’t go wrong. This film looks great on blu ray and it has some cool extra features. It’s a little slow looking at today’s standards, which is a plus in my book. Well worth the pennies you get it for.

A classic gets a great transfer
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review."The French Connection" is one of the greatest films ever made, for its (at the time) revolutionary documentary style filmmaking, the setting in 1960's New York, the enthralling story, and its fantastic performances make this one of the best police procedules in film history. If you're a fan of film, definitely pick this one up.

Great '70's film!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had never before seen The French Connection, but I've been aware of it since my Dad told me about it after he saw it in 1971. Of course, I'd seen the now-famous high speed drive under the EL, but that was about it. I must say, it was worth the wait. One of the things I enjoy about films from the '70's, aside from the gritty look of the settings, is that, quite often, the "hero" was far from perfect. That is surely the case with The French Connection. Gene Hackman and Roy Scheider are great.

Fantastic Disc
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Video is 9/10 Audio is 9/10 and Extras are also 9/10. This was the best picture I've seen for this movie so far. The audio is engaging and puts you right into the center of the action. Probably the best part of this disc is the Director Commentary. I would say this Commentary is among the 10 best of any disc out so far.

Oscar winning gem
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review."The French Connection" is a thrilling, Oscar-winning masterpiece. Directed by William Friedkin (The Exorcist), it won the Best Picture Oscar of 1972 and won four others, including Best Actor for Gene Hackman and Best Director for Friedkin. All of the awards were deserved. Loosely based on a true story, this film will leave you breathless. Some may find it dated only because a lot of films have stolen from this movie. See the original ASAP.

The Best!
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. One of the all time great "cop" movies. Gene Hackman is fantastic as Popeye Doyle. And of course on of the most famous "chases" committed to film. Great disc with some great extras too!

Classic on Blu-ray
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Finally purchased this classic movie on Blu-ray. Still has that gritty feel that 1970's movie had only with a cleaner picture and sound.

Classic Film. Great Price.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There's a reason that Vince Gilligan (creator of Breaking Bad) cites it as one of his favorite films of all time. It's that good. If you've never seen the French Connection, then rectify it. At $7.99 for the Bluray, you've really got no excuse. Great transfer, too.

Classic film from the early 70s
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. An excellent version of this movie on Blu-ray. Gene Hackman turns in a great performance, and this movie has one of the top 2 or 3 car chases in cinema history. A gritty crime-drama that they don't make too much anymore.
