    Horror Classic!

The Howling is one of those movies I saw many years ago but haven't seen again since. I have been looking for this on any streaming service or on digital or even a good DVD copy for years. The streaming rights must be tied up somewhere preventing its release. I finally found this 4K version, and it was totally worth it. The practical effects used were groundbreaking for the time, and this movie just does such a great job of bringing the werewolf genre to life. I bought this on Halloween day this year, and since I rarely have many trick or treaters, I made popcorn and watched this instead of waiting to see if the doorbell would ring. Worth it!

    Worth the upgrade to 4K!

Absolutely worth the upgrade to 4K. I have the previous Blu-ray from Scream Factory and I wasn't sure a 4K upgrade would benefit this film much. Boy, was I wrong. The picture is very pleasing. Film grain is intact but not heavy. The reds and lights of the opening scene pop and create a picture with more depth. Details can be seen in faces, clothing, and the effects. Oh, the effects. Though little of the werewolves is shown, what we get looks amazing and the transformation scene has never been more grotesque. The previous Blu-ray is included and it has loads of very interesting special features that I also thoroughly enjoyed after watching the film. The Howling is a classic. Buy it!

    Perennial Horror Classic

The Howling is a horror classic that never goes out of style due to the masterful filmmaking by director, Joe Dante, who makes werewolves seem all too real. Dee Wallace is completely convincing in her role as Karen - it's a perfect example of "believing" an actor as a normal person going through extraordinary and terrifying circumstances. From the nightmarish horror sequence in the opening act to the nearly surreal climax, The Howling holds your attention. And the screenplay by the great John Sayles strikes that balance between horror, realism, and dark humor.

    Fun werewolf movie

The Howling is a fun 80s movie. I didn't find the film at all scary, and it's almost without blood. The effects are still very good after 30 odd years. The cast is good and stars Dee Wallace, Christoper Stone, Patrick Macnee and the timeless Dick Miller, who cites his very small cameo as the best part he's ever played in his film career. Whilst The Howling is not as nearly as good as I remembered as a kid, the film is still very enjoyable. Sure there are a few moments that don't fit too well, but overall it's classic 80s horror. Also it's just refreshing to see a good werewolf movie. In all honesty I don't think I could name 10 good ones. Point of note the woman werewolf was my first ever crush- she still looks hot looking back. You'll have a good time with this movie and it's climax. Try and avoid the dreadful sequels though.

Great Picture and sound, in a movie that deserves both. I am also very happy that this package included all the best special features and extras from some of the previous editions. Carpenter gets all the music glory for his movie scores, but in terms of atmosphere and enhancing the experience, this is one of the best I can think of. Even if you already own the movie, this edition and package are worth the upgrade.

Shout Factory knocks it out of the park with it's 4k UHD restoration of "The Hoeling". I wasn't the biggest fan of the film the first time i ever saw it but upon each additional watch the film has looked better and better. This is the best way to have rewatched and the film looks incredible. I cannot recommend this enough. A great release from shout and a treasure for cult film fans. Fans of werewolf films and director Joe Dante's work will want this too.

The other great 80s werewolf classic (the other being An American Werewolf in London, also available in 4K), this is a great film, with an amazing performance from Dee Wallace (of E.T. fame). Great effects, scares, and even some humor. It has never looked better than here in 4K. It may even look better than it did in its original theatrical run! Bonus features are plenty. You will get a big bang for your buck!

1981 was the year of the Werewolf movie and this one is an all timer as far as most people are concerned. Rob Bottin did the makeup effects (his movie right before Carpenter’s The Thing) and Joe Dante has his wit on display throughout. Scream Factory doesn’t have the best quality control on their encodes usually, but this is a stellar AV release.

Not as good as American Werewolf in London but close. The transformation scene is long and super weird but that’s a good thing. 4K transfer looks solid and maintains original grain. The softness in some scenes is intention for the look of the film. Great slate of special features too. Scream factory put out excellent discs.

One of my favorite werewolf movies of all time, along with one of the best transformation scenes in cinema history. The tone and the atmosphere that this movie evokes, always draws me in. I tell ya, it really looks and sounds good in this 4k format. For fans of this cult flick, It's essential that this be in your collection.

I am so happy that Scream Factory has decided to jump on the 4K bandwagon and bring us all these delicious releases. The ones released so far have all been stellar and I hope that the trend continues. The Howling is an excellent upgrade to what you have already seen and worthy of a spot on your shelf.

Great special effects and was in competition, in a way, with An American Werewolf in Paris with the practical effects. I like the special features as well; there was a lot and very informative. A definite purchase for those who love werewolf films.

What is there to say about this film that hasn't been said already? It is hands down one of the best werewolf films ever made. The effects hold up incredibly well to this day plus it is still rather scary. The 4K release really lets it shine. Highly recommended.

Absolutely fantastic transfer of a great cult horror film. I’ve seen some complaints about the soft focus shots but that’s literally they way it was filmed so that’s not an error or quality issue. Hopefully fans would know that.

This horror classic just got the 4K treatment! This is a great Joe Dante movie that gives "An American Werewolf in London" a run for it's money. The practical effects alone are worth the price of admission. Do check out this movie!

I’ve bought every version of this movie since it’s been released on DVD and this one looks the best! The old animation effects that were meant to be viewed in a dark theater look a lot better in this version.
