I saw this movie from start to finish and it was the bomb. This Hunger Games movie was off the chain and I say that this movie is way better than the rest of the other Hunger Games movies that I ever seen and if they have another Hunger Games movie that I want to get from Best Buy, I will be first in line to get it because the Hunger Games movies are truly my favorite movies ever. Thank you very much Best Buy, yours truly, Zaida Quijano.

I love this movie, picture and sound is decent, not the best 4k but it does definitely bring an upgrade from the blu ray version, for the price you can’t beat it

It is always disturbing to see what could possibly happen to society in the future. In a way, it seems as though the movie tells the major part of the story as though it were reality TV. The country had been previously ravished by civil unrest. A powerful group has dominated, becoming the elite...the Capitol. The other factions have become laborers each within their specific "district" based upon the primary resource available. People are provided the basic necessities in exchange for the continued provision of the raw materials needed to maintain the Capitol's lavish lifestyle. Life in the districts seems to be stuck in the mid-twentieth century whereas the Capitol has progressed into a highly advanced (and gaudy) level. To keep people in line, an annual "game" has been started...the Hunger Games...where each district sends one male and one female to the Capital where they receive a bit of pampering and heavy training before being sent to the staging area of the games. Once there, it is a fight to the end. Survival skills are tested, not only from the elements, but in how to survive from being killed by other participants. The entire time the game is going on, cameras everywhere are filming every move of each player and broadcasting the "show" back to the Capitol and districts, and if the action gets too dull, a control center can manipulate the environment to make things more interesting for the viewers. In a way, it is like Survivor, except instead of being voted off the show, you are killed during the show. Only one person is meant to survive.

When one thinks of a future Utopia, one imagines a place where people live in peace and harmony with many modern conveniences, yet in the Hunger Games you find that such a life only exists for the capital. The rest of the country, the "districts", are still barely surviving being forced into their routines at times by "peace-keepers." And to prevent future chances of civil war, the Hunger Games are created where a male and female from each district will go, to fight. Only one is supposed to survive out of all the contestants...the victor. And in the mean time, the whole country watches as the games are televised with ultra-modern technological advances. It is shocking to think that a society could actually reach that point. This isn't Survivor where we are looking to see who the last one voted off is, but to find out who actuallly lives to reach the end of the game.

Saw this in the theater, owned it on Blu-ray. So is the 4K UHD version worth buying again ??? The answer in short is YES. However that comes with some exceptions. If you own a 4K Blu-ray Player then most likely you already own a 4K TV. That's the only way to enjoy this version of the Movie. Is that still enough to buy again ??? Well for me not exactly. I purchased again because of the added Dolby Atmos Soundtrack. The standard Blu-ray uses a DTS 7.1 sound codec.. So if you have an Atmos enabled receiver and height / ceiling speakers installed then YES this is a much improved version of the movie.

Great movie with a well written plot. I would reccomend for anyone to watch this 13 and up I would say it's a must see. I enjoy movies in post apocalyptic modern/futuristic settings. The story shows a side of humanity that is important to remember in today's society. In our fast paced modern world we must not forget what makes us human, and how we treat others. It is a story of morality in that the main character Katniss does not forget where she comes from as she struggles between two worlds, one of the "haves" and the "have nots". A well done filmiworthy of any film collection.

Imagine taking a well-worn story line of a dystopian future where there is no way a "common person" can fight the government juggernaught and win? This classic theme of good vs evil ever being seen as fresh and compelling? In this film it sure was for me (I've been going to the movies for over 50 years). The writing, acting, directing, videography, design, costuming, editing, etc in this film are so A++ that the story already told a million times seemed fresh and new and captivating. I bought this DVD after renting it twice. IMHO, it is a keeper.

Never saw the hunger games in theaters when they were releasing. My sisters knew about it but I didn't jump in that boat. When Mockingjay part 2 was releasing I thought I'd catch up on what I've missed. Went to Best Buy and they had the best deal on the 1st hunger games. Saw it with my sisters and it was great. I haven't read the books but it is definitely entertaining. I will probably check out the books later. Good story. Well acted. If you were on the fence with it. Just get it you won't regret it.

The first entry in an awesome film series

This is the first film in the extraordinary Hunger Game series -- one that grows on the viewer with each additional entry. Since it is the first, this film sets up the narrative of what is to become a thriller. It is not quite traditional science fiction genre, but it does draw on a common themes found in those films: A post-apocalyptic, dystopian future. Yet Jennifer Lawrence's character injects the right amount of optimism to give one hope and to invite them to view the next film in the sequel.

So, I've never read the Hunger Games books, but I was blown away when I saw this movie in theaters. It really is a pretty cool movie and introduced me to Jennifer Lawrence, so it's a winner in my book. You might say it's just a ripoff of the Japanese film Battle Royale, but I think it differentiates itself enough to stand on it's own. Really, what form of media is original anymore nowadays? Pick up this movie if you think you'd be interested or want to see what the hype's about.

If you read the trilogy, it's clear that the books are written for "young adult readers" (in other words, teenagers). However, the movie soars above the original material. All the special effects and CGI are needed without the effects crowding out the compelling drama. Jennifer Lawrence's performance is unbelievable- most of the time she is silent, intense in her private hell, and the camera is focused in close-up on her face. Like "the boy who lived" this series is one of a kind.

The Hunger Games has some differences from Suzanne Collins's novel of the same name, most notably that the film is not narrated in the first person, but remains faithful to the source material for the most part. While the themes may go over the heads of younger viewers and the violent nature of the Games may be too much for them, the movie is suitable for middle grade children and older. The steelbook case is great for collectors.

The movie never seems to be quite as good as the book. However this is one of the first times I haven't made a conscious effort to read the book prior to seeing the movie. Without the book bias this movie was phenomenal!! After reading the book there are a few things I wish had been included - but overall a great watch! You definitely need to prepare yourself for the concept of children killing children though. It can be a lot to handle....

I refused to watch this movie for a long time, especially with all the release hype and my assumption that it would be another Twilight. Eventually I did see the movie (maybe it was on Netflix?) and wow, what an epic film. It didn't have that teen beat feel I was expecting, and was incredibly interesting throughout. So here I am now, reviewing the DVD I just bought (because it ended up being that good).

Everyone dies... No but if you read my first review on Catching Fire then this will kind of make sense, if not then, o well you're as confused as I am. This was a good movie and good family entertainment. So sit back and relax but don't watch with childern under 12, only because once they realize what is going on you might have to have them sleep in your room because they're afraid of other districts coming after them. Or those dog things...
