Excellent JRPG. For those who enjoy RPGs, but are tired of the same old story of good guy goes on a quest to save the world from the bad guy and his plans for world destruction or domination, this one is recommend.
Great turn-based combat system that rewards you for not spamming the same strategy over and over, yet also can crush you on harder fights and bosses with multiple poor decisions. Ambitious storyline with many great characters. For those that enjoy turn-based style JRPGs this one is a must recommend, as there is a do fast-forward mechanic for the longer scenes. I'm currently about 40+ hours in and enjoying the world that's been created by the developers.
Glad to see the Nintendo Switch is getting these games because playing on the go function is great. Hopefully parts I and II get ported to the Switch as well, but if not they are on the PS3 and 4. Looking forward to part IV.

I'd never played the Trails series of RPGs before, but figured I would give it a shot. The characters all have personality (and there are a lot of them), the story keeps things interesting even if it leans pretty heavily into common anime tropes, the battles are good fun and can require some strategizing, and the game is plenty long. I've got 75 hours in and not done, but still having fun. If I have a couple of gripes is that I've had a few soft locks when the game goes to load a new area, and the XP system feels a bit weak. Enemies tend to give very little XP and aren't very numerous so grinding becomes a pain though thankfully it isn't required to be able to progress in the main story like some RPGs that don't scale as well in difficulty.

You will probably like this if you like Persona style rpgs where like half the games is interacting with friends and building relationships. Games in this series are a slow burn, expect lots of dialog/lore. Also if you like side quest expect backtracking for those, while technically optional are required for better school grades.
Hopefully the first 2 games or even the entire Legend of Heroes series gets ported to the Switch

Trails of Cold Steel: a New Generation

A solid continuation of what Cold Steel 1 and 2 started. Improved graphics with the switch to next generation consoles, expansions to the gameplay combat systems.
The soundtrack doesn't stand out as consistently as the prior two games but some tracks are really good. Also two of the new combat mechanics can be abused to somewhat cheese the game, which can be a con. However, some characters have solid development and the story told in this installment is solid. Expect a somewhat linear experience.
Play Cold Steel 1 and 2 at the very least before playing this one.

The Legend of Heroes series continues with another great entry. Awesome battle system, awesome upgrade and equipment system, deep complex story with mystery and revelations, decent dungeons. Very lengthy as well. Worth every dollar and hour. Its even better if you've played the previous games but if yoy have not, it has a summary of Cold Steel 1 and 2.

I love this game. Such a great RPG series to get into. I never played 1 or 2, but 3 has me hooked. I am hoping NIS will rerelease 1 and 2 on the switch so I can play those as well. Even though this game does a fantastic job at getting you caught up in the story its just that good that I want to now go back and play the originals.

I been playing the Erebonia arc since Trails of Cold Steel first came out during the PS3/Vita era and find this to be one of my favorite JRPG series. I am surprised Falcom continued with Rean's story, but I am not disappointed. I played the JP version, but it's good to finally have it English. Although NISA has reputation for subpar translations, they did a decent job with this game. The battle system took me while to get used to, but it's fun overall. Overall, I am pleased with this game.
Side note: to anyone interested playing Cold Steel 3, I recommend that you DO NOT start with this game first. The first two games are on PS4/PC as well and I highly advise you play those first or you will be very lost with some of the plot and characters.

Big fan of the Trails series so I have the ps4 version of this as well and all I'll say is it delivers there was only one small flaw was the frame drops just a little when playing it portable I have both the switch lite and the normal switch to play docked and while I still play it more portable, it runs a little better docked. But besides that this game is great whether you're new to trails series or a veteran lime me buy it now!

Underrated JRPG Series

Trails is perhaps the most underrated JRPG series available today. I'd highly recommend this to any RPG fan, but would recommend they play the first two (neither available on switch) before playing this. If you decide not to, there are options to catch you up on the story in the game itself.

It's the first in the second duology in the Trails of Cold Steel series. Do NOT expect to pick this one up unless you have completed 1 and 2. You'll be lost on a lot of references and even some of the gameplay. However, if you're ready for it... you'll be very happy.

Played the 1st and 2nd on the Vita and had to play the next one. Falcom is a ridiculously underrated developer. Has some of the best JRPGs out there. An amazing soundtrack and a great story to go with it. This series is one of my favorites.

This is a great JRPG to pick up! I read reviews saying that you should play 1-2 first, but it was really easy to pick up and follow along the story. Probably missing some important bits, but still enjoyable nonetheless.

A great entry point for newcomers to the franchise, Trails of Cold steel III brings one of the best RPGs I have ever played to the Nintendo switch. I highly recommend this game to anyone looking for a great PRG to play.
