Girlfriend is loving it so far. The open-world has been a really interesting touch to the series. Feels a bit like a Zelda game mixed with Skyrim.

Nintendo really went back to its roots with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. After a brief tutorial with minimal hand-holding, the game drops you in a MASSIVE world with even less direction on where you have to go next. Exploration is once again the name of the game in a world with secrets around every corner - seriously, leave no stone unturned. For those with a Wii U, this is an excellent send-off for a console that never really got the fanfare it deserved. Having also spent several hours with the Switch version, I can confidently say this version runs comparably. So if you're not sure you're ready to buy a Switch just yet, this will more than make due in the meantime.

this game is the best legend of zelda game that i played in a long time. this game reminds me of the original legend of zelda with a open world to explore without guidance. this game is amazing.

I preordered this game way back when, back when it was supposed to be released at the end of 2016. It is such a great game and is worth every penny. I stuck with the Wii U because watching comparisons online really didn't show much difference in graphics. I'm sure the Switch is a great system, but I have so many games on my Wii U that I still need to get into. The only disappointing thing about this game isn't even about the game itself - it's now Nintendo handled the release. They could have given the Wii U one final farewell by releasing it on its own, before the release of the Switch. Irregardless, it has nothing to do with BOTW on Wii U, so go out and buy this game now!

As there are already many reviews that praise the game itself (which it certainly deserves), my review will deal more with what you can expect specifically for the Wii U version. Despite the Wii U's limited power and 720p resolution output, Zelda looks and performs remarkably well. Load times are reportedly faster than even the Switch version, which was a surprise, and even then there are relatively few loading screens throughout. While the frame rate does dip below 30fps, it only occurs when entering a new area or during hectic combat scenarios for only several seconds at a time. Screen tearing may occur as well from time to time, but only when the game is installed directly on the Wii U system. I have an external hard drive for my Wii U, and I found that having the game installed on the hard drive not only eliminates the screen tearing, it also results in fewer frame rate dips and contributes to faster load times. The few complaints I do have are more centered around the use of the game pad. Unlike other Zelda titles on the Wii U, this title does not feature the ability to manage items or display maps on the second screen. It does offer "Off TV Play" but colors are drastically washed out compared to how it appears on TV. And while the game supports nearly every controller type (Wii U Pro Controller is my main choice), use of the game pad is required for certain motion control based puzzles, so you'll need to at least keep the game pad charged and close by. Luckily switching controls is simple and instantaneous, so alternating controller types is painless. All in all, Zelda is a game that should not be missed and is still a grand experience on the Wii U.

Nintendo has done it again. Just when you thought they were out of the game they release a masterpiece such as this. Highly recommended. Stop reading this and go out and buy this.

Open world with very little hand holding, this is quite a departure from previous Zelda games but also probably the greatest one ever made. You will sink 50+ hours into this game easily!

Excellent game, one of the best in the Zelda series. The open worldbisba lot of fun to explore and there is a huge variety of weapons. The need for tactics has never been more needed.

I've never been very good at Zelda games, but I thought I'd give it a try. It's a beautiful game with a totally open world. Though not without its challenges, this game is for anyone

To be fair this is functionally my first Zelda game. And what a way to get started in the franchise. An excellent open world, engaging story, and fulfilling simple crafting system.

This is a fantastic new change to the Zelda formula. There is SO much to explore and see in this beautifully done game. I have not finished it yet, but there is so much to do in it.

This game is the reason I purchased the Wii U when it was originally released back in 2012. However, Nintendo ended up pushing the release of the game back citing develolment reasons. Finally Nintendo announced its release alongside the Nintendo Switch March 3, 2017. I contemplated purchasing a Switch just to play this game hearing that the Switch version has slightly better graphics. Honestly, the Wii U version (which is what this review is based on) is incredible. So far I cannot see a difference. The controls are so intuitive and the gameplay is amazing. This is a must own if you have Wii U. Stop reading this review and go out and buy now!

The gameplay is taking things in a fresh direction. It really feels like a big world that you can explore, and gives you the freedom to really go all over the place pretty quickly.

A seriously wonderful and breath taking experience. The characters, story, gameplay, and environments are fantastic. A game any gamer can enjoy! Definitely worth a ten out of ten!

I admit I have not played every single Zelda games but I have played my share of them all the way from the very first NES one. I have to say that this is the best out of all of them. The open world is HUGE and majority of the puzzles/shrines/dungeons are quite satisfying. There is not much hand holding like previous Zelda games which is good because you are free to explore the game any way you like. I have finished the game after 50 hours or so but I feel like I barely scratched the surface and am eager to go back and find all the side quests I missed. If you are going to play only one zelda game in your life, this is it!

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild focuses on presenting a large world to explore, with mountains to climb, rivers to cross, forests to navigate, and more. One of the main features scattered across the land are shrines, which offer a puzzle to solve or a challenge to overcome. They're fun, but none of them match up to the full-sized dungeons of previous Legend of Zelda games. There isn't much in the way of enemy variety, with the main differences being enemies having different weapons. Overall, the game has its moments, but is brought down by lack of variety and slow character movement.

Graphics are awesome. I like being able to roam the open world. I like that it is rated E for everyone 10 years and over. I can play it with my grandkids. They love it too!

Wow Zelda Breath of the Wild is amazing, one of the best Zelda games I ever played and I played almost all of them, the world of hyrule is back but in a unique way, the world is massive and lots of things to do ala Skyrim, graphics are amazing and unique, this game comes with a fresh new gameplay you will be amazed at how beautiful Hyrule kingdom looks, if you have the Switch or a Wii U this is a must buy and if you're still deciding to wether get the New Nintendo Switch then let this be the ultimate factor! This is one of the best games of the decade, Great soundtrack, gameplay, everything is amazing about this game.

This is a game that demands to be lived in. The scope is massive, the world beautiful, and even mundane tasks are fun. The lack of handholding tutorials may mean some early deaths as you get the ropes, but the autosave feature is incredibly generous and the freedom it brings is unparalleled and immensely rewarding. If you're on the fence about Switch vs Wii U, don't be. This version is gorgeous on my 4k and the sound is crisp and immersive. The Switch does have its advantages, but the incremental gains are negligible if you're not in the market for a new system (or want to squeeze some final miles out of the Wii U).

I love the open world concept of this game. The gameplay and plot are very good. The only thing missing is I would have liked is more of the traditional dungeon gameplay.
