This blu/4K is a loosely based re-make of the Magnificent Seven classic 60's film which in turn was based on Akira Kurosawa's 1956 masterpiece "Seven Samurai". The new Magnificent Seven has great bones and frankly I liked it for it's humor, action and great modern cast. The 4K version is a worthy format to view this western epic film. The color saturation and HDR effects were most in evidence during exterior landscape views and especially in action scenes in the last half of the movie. I highly recommend seeing the movie in 4K.

I enjoy collecting the Exclusives slip covers & Steelbooks on movies and Series I enjoy. It is a shame that HBO decided not to continue with the L.E. Sigil Packaging with a great series like Game of Thrones and decided to save a few dollars and drop Sigil Slip Covers after 5 years. This is a cheap shot to all collectors and all though HBO might save a few dollars they will loose a lot of dollars in the long run because I for one will never buy or spend money for Exclusive covers from HBO knowing they will sell out collectors to save a buck.

I loved the original Magnificent Seven with Yul Brenner. This version has Denzel Washington playing the head gunslinger. He plays it straight and cool. The villains are brutal and hateful and you find yourself feeling sympathy for the good guys because they bring life into their characters, and you hate to see them killed. The battle scenes are innovative and realistic. Plus they go into a better detail about why these men decide to fight including our main gunslinger. The reasons are more believable that in the original. Recommended

Good Remake of a Classic Western

Considering this is remake of a western of the same name; it was a pretty good movie. The main noticeable feature of the movie was that in this version, the setting of the film was of a small Western town. The setting of the original film was of a small Mexican village. The odds of the first film were much more believable as well. There were still only seven "heroes", but a smaller group of Mexican bandits. The remake had the seven "heroes", but seemed to have an never ending supply of villains. If you haven't seen the original "Magnificent Seven", I recommend the remake for a good film. Slightly unbelievable, but good.

This was an excellent movie, especially for a remake of an old classic which is very hard to do! The story is well written in a way that brings even more personal interest to the individual characters while at the same time none of this brings down the action and flow of the story line. Good film work, very high quality. Unless you just don't like westerns or can't stand the idea this movie bears the same name as a classic film you will highly enjoy it no matter if you were/are a fan of the original or not.

I'm a big fan of the original Magnificent Seven, as well as the original Seven Samurai which it was based on. I also enjoyed this version. The acting is top notch and features an assortment of interesting characters. It's no longer bandits or Mexican banditos that are the bad guys. It's a creepy land grabber, played by Peter Sarsgaard and his army of hired guns. Solid action film that's a lot of fun. Not a lot of thinking necessary. I enjoyed it and recommend it. Comes with a digital copy watchable on iTunes.

If you are looking for a solid western, this is it. If you are looking for an interesting story about 7 guys who beat the odds and stops the bad guys, you will be disappointed. The ORIGINAL is much better and the characters are more interesting. You will like the characters but you will be disappointed in the battle scenes. The first battle with the law in town was solid, but the end scene was a little over the top with the good guys not acting rationally. It is good for the collection, but not a movie that I would see over and over again. Open Range is more interesting.

What can you say? Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, and on and on and on. Lots of star power. I really enjoyed Denzel's recruitment of allies to help defend the towns people from the robber baron. The character development of each recruited gunslinger was pretty cool. I was especially fond of Vincent D'Onofrio's portrayal of an ornery old mountain man. Anyway, there are enough gun fights and explosions for several westerns. My wife and I got a real kick out of watching this film. Glad I bought it.

this is a remake of a remake of a remake. you likely are already familiar with the story, however i must say i enjoyed the direction that Fuqua took the film. all the actors put in admirable performances. my main qualm is moreso about the packaging as opposed to the film itself. there is no interior art on this steelbook - @ the price point ($30 at time of purchase) and being only one of the first few Best Buy exclusive steelbooks to include 4K, I would expect to have some sort of artwork on the interior - yes it's a minor issue - but i feel this should have certainly been added

Good Take on an Old Classic

I am not an expert movie critic but I really enjoyed the original The Magnificent Seven movie from the 60's. This version takes the core story from the original, changes the setting a bit, adds a few more twists and turns it into a fun and exciting movie. There is obviously some serious star power and the cast selected works well together for a story like this one. It's not just an action movie, there is a story line and some drama involved that kept my wife enjoying the movie as well.

I had no expectations of this movie and in fact thought it was a terrible idea to remake such a classic western. As a remake the movie doesn't really stand up to either the original or the seven samurai. As a stand alone movie it is a good entertaining movie. Denzel is likeable as the ringleader and Chris Pratt plays the same role he does in pretty much every movie but he is still funny to watch. If you go into the movie expecting it to be like the original then you will be disappointed however if you go into the movie with an open mind you will be pleasantly entertained.

The combination of Fuqua & Denzel is a dynamic, barrier-breaking force of Hollywood that we as fans of the movies should appreciate and encourage project after project. I absolutey love Denzel films and have this film seeded #1 as my favorite Denzel movie/performance replacing Safe House. Grade: A+ P.S. C. Pratt added his own brand of humor into his character and really made it his own. He provided the little bit of comic relief every serious story needs to truly be great

Awesome movie!!! It reminded of 'Tombstone' a little, with how good the story was, and how good the gun play was. This movie was a little more intense though. I just finished watching it a few minutes ago, and I already want to watch it again. ...And now since I brought up 'Tombstone', I want to watch that too. And while I'm at it, I think I'll watch all of my Clint Eastwood westerns, as well as Bruce Willis movie 'Last Man Standing'. All of them are really good westerns.

I really enjoyed this movie. Highly entertaining...really strong acting all around...good, easy plot...very well done. But the UHD presentation - wow! Reference quality for sure. Never more apparent than in the sweeps of the landscapes. Seriously breathtaking. Good use of HDR and even WCG (although the movie is a Western, so more muted and strong uses of reds/oranges). Audio is also reference, to me. Great use of surround and even better use of LFE, with all the explosions.

The action was great! Denzel was excellent, played his part great and mostly everyone looked like they had be riding horses for a long time. True, it was not a exact copy of the original, but that was fine. Just had small issue with his name, Sam Chisolm. Reminded me of John Wayne's movie "Chisolm", even the music was almost identical to that movie. But the story was great, action was awesome, and much to our regret not everyone lived. True western! Loved it!

The director did a first rate job with this remake. I like the fact the movie showed the diversity that really existed in the old West. I watched the movie when I first received it, then took the movie to my friend's house (she is a cancer survivor and doesn't get out of the house much), she and her husband both enjoyed it, then my husband and I watched the movie, and then again I watched it one day. I am a big fan of Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt and Vincent D'Onofrio

This is ANOTHER Hollywood remake of a classic movie, and I only bought it because of the seriously star studded cast - Denzel Washington, Chriss Pratt, Ethen Hawke, Peter Sarsgaard, Matt Bomer, Cam Gigandet --- just to name a few! If you love westerns with lots of BIG HOLLYWOOD special effects than this is a great movie for you! Take it at face value and this is a rewarding movie!

I liked the cast of characters that's why I bought it.I Also have the original. Considerable difference. Can't really compare one to another. The action near the end was directed well and acted well. No over the top super CGI effects or anything like that. Some greatly choreographed stunts. Good entertainment to watch for an evening. Denzel Washington and Vincent D'Onofrio hardly recognizable at first, but without fail ... was the best acting and characters...

If the sight of Denzel Washington, guns blazing and saddled up for his first western, doesn't get your pulse racing, read elsewhere t's certainly fun, and a spectacle to behold in IMAX, but if you're going to remake the 1960 classic, which starred Yul Brynner and Steve McQueen, you need to make a cinematic cavalry charge into the territory of modern sensibilities.
