The book, the movie, both were absolutely captivating. The remarkable story of an astronaut left for dead on Mars and living. This story gripped me until the end, I couldn't let go. I literally cried throughout the entire thing, even when he complained about disco.

Excellent movie well worth the excellent price! Can’t believe I got such a good movie at a steel. Grab it while you can at this excellent price, five bucks! Watch Matt Damon become a space pirate in one of the most unique sci-fi Flicks I’ve seen in a while!

The movie is as great as I remembered, but the added value is in the special features. I haven't gotten through them all, but the ones I have seen are entertaining and very informative. Playback is perfect, and the discs are in excellent condition.

I purchased this as a gift for someone who really likes the movie. They probably already had it on DVD, but the cover/art on this was so nice, I thought I would get them one before they are gone. I think this one looks great and made for a nice gift.

Film director Ridley Scott is well known for releasing direct-to-disc “Extended Editions” or “Director’s Cuts” of selected movies, usually several months after the completion of their theatrical runs. His most notable Director’s Cuts, which are usually vastly superior to their shorter theatrical releases, include “Kingdom of Heaven,” “American Gangster,” “Gladiator,” and now “The Martian.” I’ve already reviewed the theatrical release version on Blu-ray disc (BD) of “The Martian” here at Amazon. I think it’s a nearly perfect blend of drama, high adventure, suspense, comedy, and realistically futuristic technology. Starring Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Sean Bean, and based on Andy Weir’s novel of the same name, it tells the story of how an American astronaut, presumed killed in a violent sandstorm on Mars, is left behind to fight for his survival against incredibly long odds… “The Martian Extended Edition” is a 2-BD set, with one disc containing both the theatrical release and extended edition of Scott’s feature film, and the other containing a wide variety of excellent special features – most of which are brand new. The extended edition is 151 minutes long and adds about 10 minutes of footage to the theatrical release. Most of the extra footage shows astronaut Mark Watney’s heroic efforts to survive on Mars long enough for someone to come and rescue him. A few minutes are added to various scenes back on earth at Mission Control. I didn’t see any significant differences between the extended and theatrical versions of the film, so I’m a bit undecided as to whether or not my purchase of “The Martian Extended Edition” was worth the extra money I paid for it. However, if there were anything that does make my purchase worthwhile, it would have to be that supplemental “Special Features” disc included in this 2-BD set. I thought the bonus features were all very entertaining, interesting, and helpful in enhancing my enjoyment of the feature film. Highly recommended for both the feature film and the outstanding bonus features.

Don’t let this one slip under your radar. I had heard good things about it but never bothered...at least until it started winning awards. I finally watched it, and WOW - great story, great performances...give this one a shot! Highly recommended

I loved this movie when it first came out, and I couldn't believe it was just $5! This review is not only about the movie, but it's also about Best Buy's great pricing! Disclaimer: I am not affiliated in any way with Best Buy, I just love a good deal!

Watching this movies makes you think what we might be doing on our first visit to mars great movie !

It's a good movie, reviews of which are numerous, so I won't go into that. This is a great 4K rendition, great to look at and listen to. Even if you've seen the movie before, if you haven't see it in 4K, it's probably worth seeing again.

The movie is really good, that's something I think most people can agree on. The 4K transfer is also good, but maybe not quite as good as I wish it was. I wish the film was filmed in 4K (or maybe even 5 or 6K) but sadly the film was made from various 2K renders. This provides a decent uptick from the standard Blu-Ray, but does not give the film the really nice 4K look many native 4K films have.

If you have ever thought about going on one of the ships destined for Mars and colonizing it, this movie makes that a reality and the dangers associated with this type of venture. We have a long way to go before we can colonize a planet.

While the extra scenes in the film itself are OK, it's the much longer and better bonus features on the second disc that makes the Extended Edition release of "The Martian" worth it over its less-expensive regular release.

The movie is good and the oicture and sound is great, when it was workung- but i had to skip a scene to get past a part that was skipping. Took the disc out to see it had a scratch. Bought it brand new in store and waited too long to watch it so i cant return it. I’m very careful with my discs and it stayed unopened on my shelf until my first watch. Too bad.. I use a panasonic ub-820 and it works fine on other discs, so its just the disc that came damaged brand new with a scratch.

I went into this movie with extremely mild expectations. OMG was I wrong this movie was so visually stunning, well written and suspenseful without feeling rushed. This is my second time buying it because I NEEDED to see it again on Blu-ray

A great movie to really showcase a 4k display. Looks fantastic, the extended cut on the disc adds some subtler character moments back into the film, and there is a wealth of bonus content the quality of which we, sadly, rarely get any more.
