Poor choice for role of Phantom. Someone with stronger vocals.

Great movie to watch, amazing scenes to this play aswell, and a good choice for movie night

Didn’t’t realize this movie would be this hard to find. Original search was for Blu-ray. But prices were outrageous. BestBuy meant best price for the next option of a DVD version. Short ship time. Movie is a great and slick addition to your video library if you’re a “Phantom” fan. And in retrospect, Gerard Butler as the Phantom!? Worth price for Rossum and Driver.

Saw this back in 2005 with my then GF (now wife) and it was nostalgic and emotional- definitely a lot of singing but it conveys a message highly esteemed to this day of forbidden love, loss, and the remembrance of the past. Definitely a must in DTS: HD MA 5.1!

I wouldn't count myself among those who must see every musical ever produced but there is something about the music from Andrew Loyd Weber that leaves you humming the tunes (since I don't know the words by heart). I was familiar with the premise of Phantom of the Opera but hadn't seen a live performance or movie. Great movie. Would recommend.

It still won't beat seeing the Phantom in person, but is very good adaptation. I enjoy this version and it is one of the better movies i've seen.

This was a great movie. Anybody who loves music and singing this is a good one. Good songs and very memorable!

I've never actually seen this movie, but my 16yo niece lost her copy in a move and REALLY wanted another...so it must be good!

Nice "present for no reason" for my wife. Bundled it with another purchase and shipping was free.

It's not the stage production that I love so much, but the movie will not disappoint!

Overlooked film that was almost as good as the Broadway play. Emmy Rossum is terrific.

This is a wonderfully elaborate and very romantic screen version of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical (itself based on Gaston Leroux's novel). The production values and music are first rate and Gerard Butler & Patrick Wilson are fine as the Phantom and Raoul, respectively. But it's the gorgeous Emmy Rossum, whose physical beauty is matched by her singing, that leaves the lasting impression here. She is perfect casting as Christine, the budding opera star whom the title character falls for.

Love the movie and have the DVD version already. Bought the bluray version to see if there is a significant improvement in video and sound quality. Not a big difference in terms of video; most good DVDs with up-convert will look quite good on reasonable size HD TVs. The sound is certainly better. At $10, I think it is a good but and item for the collection. Frankly for a musical, $10 bluray is a steal.

This DVD has trailers and thats basically it for extras. The film is not as great as the play. Emmy Rossum was not the best choice for Christine and her performance was the weakest of the main cast. Even the normally talented Minnie Driver was a disapointment. Luckily Gerard Butler gave a memorable performance as the phantom. If not for his strong scene presence the movie would've been just awful.
