Ridge vs. Groove Life
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is just my personal opinion. This wallet is useless to me. It does not work like it does in the commercial ad. You spend a lot of money and have to put in effort to get the cards out. I opted in for a better minimalistic wallet Groove Life which is the best wallet I’ve ever owned.

Farewell Primitive Wallets
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Like most, I’ve used a wallet since I was a teenager. Bi-folds, tri-folds, and even money clips, I used them all. A couple of years ago I received a leather wallet for Christmas that served its purpose and even had RFID (radio frequency identification) blocking. However, I was getting annoyed with the wallet because my cards (debit, credit, and membership cards) would fall out if I titled my wallet sideways. It’s frustrating when it happens while you’re at the self-checkout with a long line waiting. I had seen a few ads about the Ridge Wallet, and I researched them to see why they were so celebrated. I would tell myself, “I’ll get around to getting one.” Well, I finally got one and it’s AMAZING! It’s a minimalist design that does so much. The Ridge Wallet forces you to carry what you NEED in it. I was never the type to use my wallet as a “briefcase” but I was guilty of having mystery phone numbers on little pieces of paper or business cards that I had no use for. The Ridge Wallet’s design makes you reevaluate what you need to be carrying in it. I went from carrying 12 cards in my leather wallet to carrying six cards in my Ridge Wallet. Gone were the stamp reward cards for a yogurt shop that was no longer in business, or the flimsy business cards that carried over from a previous wallet. I have the necessary cards (license, credit, debit, insurance, etc) in it. It looks cool. My Ridge Wallet is gunmetal grey and it suits me perfectly. Again, the minimal design does so much. No more bulk in my pocket. There have been times when I thought I forgot my Ridge Wallet because it’s so light. “Where do I put my cash?” you might ask. Well, there’s a cash strap built into the wallet. Fold up your cash and slide it into the strap. And it’s easy to remove for those times when you may have to tip the valet or what have you. The design of this Ridge Wallet is made to last. If it gets wet, just wipe it off with a paper towel, if you drop it, it won’t snap or break. And it has RFID protection. I won’t pretend that I know whether or not it’s saved my debit card information from being boosted but it’s nice to know that it’s there, right? If you were like me and have been on the fence regarding getting a Ridge Wallet, then I hope my review has pushed you towards getting one. I truly believe that you will wonder how we managed with ‘primitive’ wallets until the Ridge Wallet.

Streamlined Style Meets Practicality
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently made the switch to the Ridge Wallet, and it's been a game-changer in terms of both style and functionality. As someone who values minimalism and efficiency, this wallet has exceeded my expectations. The Ridge Wallet's design is a testament to simplicity and modernity. Made from durable materials, it boasts a sleek, minimalist profile that comfortably fits into any pocket. Don't let its slim silhouette fool you, the Ridge Wallet is a powerhouse when it comes to functionality. The innovative design features a secure money clip on one side and a practical cardholder on the other. The elastic band holds your cards firmly in place, and the thumb slot allows for easy access to your most-used card. The wallet's capacity is surprisingly generous, accommodating up to 12 cards without sacrificing its streamlined format. Constructed with precision and high-quality materials, the Ridge Wallet is built to withstand the wear and tear of everyday life. The metal construction not only adds a touch of ruggedness but also ensures that this wallet will stand the test of time. It's clear that the manufacturers prioritized durability without compromising on style. In an age where digital security is paramount, the Ridge Wallet doesn't fall short. The integrated RFID-blocking technology adds an extra layer of protection, keeping your cards safe from potential electronic theft. It's a thoughtful feature that adds value to an already impressive wallet. While it may be a bit of an investment compared to traditional wallets, the long-term benefits and the sheer satisfaction of owning a well-crafted accessory make it more than worth the price. If you're in the market for a wallet that seamlessly blends form and function, the Ridge Wallet is a clear winner.

Simplicity and Comfort
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Ridge Wallet Aluminum, Cash Strap: Gunmetal is a minimalist wallet made from high-quality aluminum and elastic, both durable and lightweight. It is designed to hold up to 12 cards and has a money strap to hold cash, credit cards, or IDs. The wallet is also RFID-blocking, which protects your cards from unauthorized scans. It is perfect for those who want a minimalist option. The wallet's functionality makes accessing your cards and the money strap easy. I followed Ridge Wallet's instructions by placing the two most used cards in the front and back of the wallet to maximize accessibility. It took a little getting used to pushing the cards out of the wallet to find the one I wanted. After a few practice tries, I could easily push and fan the cards out of the wallet to access the card I wanted quickly. The aluminum construction is scratch-resistant and will not bend or break. The elastic strap in this wallet is very durable and is designed not to stretch or tear over time. The elastic strap and screws on the aluminum are all covered by a lifetime guarantee. The Ridge Wallet Aluminum, Cash Strap - Gunmetal wallet comes in a neat cardboard box that includes the wallet, a small instructional card, a Torx screwdriver, and screws to make modifications. Overall, the Ridge Wallet is a great minimalist wallet that is both durable and functional. I no longer have to carry my wallet in my rear pants pocket. I threw out my bi-folding bulky leather wallet and replaced it with this sleek and stylish Ridge Wallet. I can now walk, stand, and sit comfortably with the Ridge Wallet inside the front pants pockets. The Ridge Wallet Aluminum Cash Strap - Gunmetal -is an excellent option for those wanting a sleek and stylish wallet to protect their cards from unauthorized scans.

Minimalist Wallet
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.PROS + Small form factor, about the width and length of a credit card + Can fit up to 12 standard cards while still staying relatively small + Anodized aluminum plating feels great & durable, with RFID blocking capabilities + Very strong elastic strap holding plates together and for the cash strap on the back + Included Torx Driver for removable screws that can be used to replace strap CONS - Cards can be a bit hard to get out or easily get the card to you need without needing to pull all cards out SO-SO * Not for folks who need to carry around more than cards and cash in their wallet (e.g. coins, tickets, etc.) THE LONG AND SHORT OF IT The Ridge Wallet wears minimalism on its sleeve, and is all the better for it. Instead of trying to find a new way to create a wallet that allows you to hold more and more, The Ridge Wallet encourages you to downsize to only the essentials. You get the ability to hold up to 12 standard sized cards, although using as few as possible will limit the depth of the wallet, but even with the full 12 it is still remarkably thin. Other than the card slot, which sandwiches the cards between two anodized aluminum plates, you get a cash strap on the back (which can be replaced with a money clip) that allows you to place folded-up cash on the back. And that is it. There are no pouches, or slots, to hold things like receipts or coins. This is really a wallet strictly for the essentials, some cash, and your essential cards. Personally, I love this level of minimalism as I’m sure most people will find, we often have more in our wallets than we really need. 12 cards left plenty of room for my credit cards, license, insurance cards, and even a few loyalty cards I keep on hand. Even with this, I could probably trim back a few cards I really don’t need to carry around with me. Likewise, while cash is becoming less prevalent, it is still nice to have a cash strap to carry around some cash as well. The strap itself felt very secure, and I never had any issues with money slipping or getting pulled out of the strap. Likewise, once the cards are in the wallet between the two plates, they feel very secure, with no movement at all when secured correctly. In fact, this actually leads me into one of the few cons with this wallet after using it for several days, which is that the cards can actually be a bit tricky to get out of the wallet easily. Unlike a traditional wallet, where you have distinct slots for each card and you can pull out the one you need, with The Ridge Wallet all of the cards are crammed together in the slot between the plates. So, if you need a card, you need to push them out with your finger using the indent on the back of the wallet, which will push all of the cards out, and then you can fan them with your other hand and pull the card you need out. This system sounds easy enough, but in reality can be a bit tricky, as the amount of pressure needed to keep the cards secure, also tends to fight against you when trying to extract a specific card. More often than not, I often found I pulled out more cards than I needed on accident, as the one I tried to grab and pull would bring others along with it, especially if that card was a few cards deep in the stack. The Ridge Wallet recommends placing your high-traffic cards on the top or bottom for easy access, which does help, but once you need any card deeper than that, you will need to be more careful extracting them. Practice will make perfect I’m sure, but so far, getting out something like my license when needed does feel a bit more complicated than I was used to with a more traditional wallet. This all being said, what you lose in convenience you gain in size, build quality, and durability. The Ridge Wallet is very small (about the size of a credit card) and is made of a very nice feeling anodized aluminum that is scratch-resistant and feels it. Each plate feels well constructed and durable, with a very sturdy quality. Additionally, you get the ability to block RFID to prevent wireless theft, which I think is a great feature for added security. Likewise, because of the small size, you can easily fit the wallet in your front pocket, which can also make it feel more secure, although you’ll want to be careful you don’t scratch-up anything else in your pocket if you do, given the metal plates on the outside. Overall, I really like The Ridge Wallet for what it is. If you are after wallet minimalism, then this is a solid, good looking, and durable choice. Just be aware that it will often mean downsizing your current traditional wallet, and that the ability to quickly access cards will take a bit of practice.

If you must carry a wallet- this is the one!!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm not a fan of chiropractors- different story for another day- BUT, my first exposure to the field years ago did result in my not having carried a "wallet" for well over 15 years. Prior to this, I carried the standard issue, Father's Day gift leather trifold wallet that holds WAY TOO MUCH. That was the point of the chiropractor- he blamed that big bulging wallet, always carried in my right rear pocket, for at least part of my back pain & general issues that needed "adjusted". Whether I believe that or not, the few weeks of not carrying a wallet lead to me to a couple realizations: I don't need to carry every credit card, business card, receipt, etc. that I've ever collected! Fast forward 15 years, and all of this is SO MUCH more true. 2 cards and my drivers license are pretty much all I ever carry- in a hatch on the back of my phone... again, different review for another day. I tested The Ridge Wallet primarily as a gift for my son who, despite being a child of the 2000's, also has the inch and a half thick leather tri-fold wallet courtesy of some past girlfriend. I'm looking to move him into the 21st century with The Ridge Wallet's key selling points: - can carry up to 12 cards (but why?) - RFID protection- important & likely only to become moreso - well-built metal case & design - attached cash strap (which can be swapped with a clip, if desired) - easy in/out design for the cards you carry It's just so simple, it's awesome!!

Never Going Back to Traditional Wallet
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm never going back to a traditional wallet. I had a bifold and I was happy enough with it, but I switched to putting my wallet in my front pocket because my back started hurting with it in my back pocket. But the normal sized wallet just felt huge in my front pocket. The space savings was obvious in just putting everything in the Ridge Wallet. An inch isn't that big, but the Ridge Walllet is about an inch smaller in both width and height than my previous wallet. I always felt my wallet before, but the Ridge Wallet has just disappeared. The best part is that in my jeans and shorts, you could see the corner of my old wallet. And in certain of my shorts the wallet was actually almost as wide as the pocket. So it was very noticeable at all times. Now I really don't notice anything. Additionally, it's really cool looking. It seems very durable and is definitely more durable than my last wallet. That one was leather and anything scuffed and scratched it. This has no marks so far and it looks really cool. It's light and easy to use. Just push on the cutout and the cards pop out. They recommended putting your most used cards in the front and back, and I'd agree. The cards also slide right back in very easily. The cash strap is tight and I ahve a few bills and even put my license in there for quicker access. None of it moves. I'm very happy with this Ridge Wallet and would recommend it to anyone.

Great minimal wallet
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I actually bought one of these a few years ago and it's great. I just have one with the cash clip instead of the strap and it is titanium instead of aluminum but I think that isn't such a big deal in my honest opinion. That being said you get inside the box: the wallet, a screw driver and the booklets and a sticker. I guess the screwdriver is to take the back plate off if you ever want to change to a clip instead of the cash strap since this is the version with the cash strap. They both have pros and cons. I feel like with the cash strap you can hold more quality of dollar bills while the clip I find the bills to be more secure in but you can't hold as many. As far as the wallet goes it's sturdy and they are built to last. My original one is like 3 years old and banged up but the elastic still holds. Not like new but it works fine. They say you should only carry like a maximum of like 12 cards and while I have held more than 12 at times I feel like no more than 7-9 is ideal in terms of long term durability.

Last Wallet You Ever Need
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wow, the Ridge is minimalist. I don't hate it but it takes a change in mentality. Most guys are used to a filing cabinet in their back pocket. You have to take the hard look and decide if that's necessary. You can really reduce everything to mostly be in this wallet. It holds 12 cards! At max I needed 7 cards. It's super lite and compact. Ideally this goes in your front pocket for safety. I needed this to still be in my back pocket due to keys and phone. This was such a relief on my back than I constantly panicked that my wallet had fallen out. It is very sturdy and the expansion is controlled by elastic bands. I liked that this had built in RFID blocking. Where this didn't fit into my mentality is when I'd be given restaurant cards that are larger than credit cards, small grocery cards, and paper insurance cards. I think that there are ways to get around these cases but that's where the mentality kicks in. For every day typical use this was amazing. I think this product does everything as advertised. I would recommend this on the caveat that you have to be ready to not carry everything you need all the time. It's hard to beat a life time warranty on something that gets the job done.

The action isn't as smooth as I'd like
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wallets, bags/backpacks, and planners (for whatever reason) are all items that I love to buy. I LOVE wallets, especially low-profile, slim or modern/minimalist varieties. My main wallet is from a company called Ekster, who has a wallet product that seems to be a really great fit for me. But, you can't get into the minimalist wallet game without at least acknowledging The Ridge Wallet...they've been around for some time, and I've been seeing these wallets in the wild for years now. The Ridge Wallet appeals because of its simple but rugged design. The aluminum exterior is cool to the touch, and is substantial enough in weight that it feels great in the hands without being too heavy. The Ridge has the same footprint as a typical credit card, and has elastic straps that are said to not stretch out over time. Cards slide into and out of the wallet with ease thanks to beveled plastic edges on the interior of the wallet, the cash strap on the outside is made with the same elastic strapping used for the main wallet and has an embossed Ridge logo on a stainless steel plate through which the elastic loops. If you've spent any time at all shopping minimalist wallets, you know the importance on finding something that fits your *specific* number of cards that you tend to carry around-- and that number is typically not something that allows for much variation (consider Apple's Magsafe wallet, which only holds three non-embossed, or two embossed, cards). That's not the case with the Ridge-- it looks and operates just as well with two cards as it does with 8, and also allows for other non-card items to be stored (like folded bills or insurance cards), provided those items fit within the aforementioned footprint. Good wallets are worth spending a little money on, and the Ridge retails for just under $100. Given the quality (these things can literally last for decades), that's a fair price to ask-- and for a lot of people it's going to be a good fit. But for me, it just doesn't work. Don't get me wrong-- I have been enamored with the Ridge Wallet for years and have almost purchased it many times. I like that you can customize the wallet when buying direct, swapping out the cash strap for a money clip, or adding additional accessories like Airtag holders or coin trays. And it looks awesome. And it takes up very little space...it's easily 25% smaller than my existing wallet, which is impressively small. But a good wallet is more than form and design--it's also about function. A wallet's primary purpose is to hold a thing when you don't need it, and present it when you do. The holding part needs to work just as well as the presenting part... but in the case of The Ridge, it's just not a smooth operation. Credit cards get worn edges and scratched surfaces over time, causing points of friction when interacting with the Ridge. It's not so easy to remove one card, or even fan out all your cards as the videos suggest you can, because most people don't have a wallet filled with brand new cards. My inability to work with the Ridge quickly is ultimately the thing that will keep me from sticking with it. What's awesome about the Ridge is that they are expanding their footprint to physical retail locations, versus just being online-- and that's really great. I'd like to see the same customization options available in store, as well as some sort of price matching agreement keeping the prices the same between Best Buy and the Ridge direct. I think this can be a good wallet for a lot of people. It's not my favorite, but I'm also a snob when it comes to most things and I'm very picky. I love minimalist wallets and the Ridge has created a compelling product here, so while I might recommend this to a friend, it's not something that has an especially high rating because the operation of the wallet just isn't smooth enough for me.

Great gift for the Dad who is downsizing, but...
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve been wanting to upgrade and consolidate my wallet from the traditional bifold/trifold wallets of yester-year and recently got my hands on the Ridge aluminum wallet in the sleek gun metal color, complete with a cash strap. I wanted to love this wallet and while it has some attractive features, there are a couple of aspects that it has fell short and may not make it the perfect fit for everyone. Let's start with the positives. The aluminum construction is sturdy and gives the wallet a premium feel. The gun metal color adds a touch of sophistication, making it a stylish accessory. The inclusion of a cash strap is a convenient feature for those who prefer carrying some bills alongside their cards. The wallet, being very slim and sleek, fits very easily in any pocket in your jeans, vest, shirt, or even a small strap bag. I have enjoyed slipping the wallet in and out of various pockets and not feeling uncomfortable wherever I placed it. However, the design of the elastic webbed straps, while innovative and giving a bit of flexibility for adding multiple cards, can be a bit tricky for certain card types. The wallet may not be the most accommodating for paper cards, as the straps can make it a bit cumbersome to slide them in and out having the corner of the cards get caught and poking through. This is something to consider if you have a lot of business cards or any other type of cards that aren't the standard plastic variety. Additionally, fanning out the cards can be a bit challenging due to the elastic webbing. If you're used to quickly flipping through your cards, you might find this process a bit less seamless than with a traditional wallet. That being said, if you primarily use standard plastic cards and appreciate the modern, minimalist design, the Ridge aluminum wallet could still be a great choice. The durability and RFID-blocking capabilities are added bonuses for those who prioritize security and longevity in their wallet. In conclusion, the Ridge aluminum wallet in gun metal with a cash strap is a solid choice with a premium feel and innovative design. While it may not be the best fit for paper cards and can make fanning out cards a bit challenging, its durability and sleek appearance make it a compelling option for those who prioritize style and security in a minimalist wallet.

The Ridge has converted me to a minimalist wallet
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve been carrying a leather wallet for about 60 years, mostly in my back pocket, and at times I’m sure it’s been so stuffed that I’d get sore from sitting on it. Lately I’ve tended to trim it down to just cards and cash, but the size of the leather wallet itself made it inconvenient to carry in a front pocket. So I’ve been considering some sort of “minimal” wallet since they first came out. The Ridge certainly appeared to be the minimalist among minimalist wallets and I finally decided to give it a try. Opening the box, it’s obvious that there’s not much to it: a couple of metal plates held together with elastic. Of course, there’s more to its design than that, but it certainly is simple. Also included is a very small Torx screwdriver in case you need to disassemble it. On this model, there is also an external elastic band for holding down cash. There are really no usage instructions included but there is a video made by Ridge on Youtube that demos all the features. The specs say that it’s designed for a max of 12 cards. My current wallet contains 2-3 credit cards, my driver’s license, and a few thin medical cards, so I’m not straining the capacity at all. I should have plenty of room for the times when I carry another card or two. Everything slipped easily into the Ridge. I also included a folded packet of currency and slipped that under the external strap. It makes for a very neat high-tech looking package that easily slips into a front pocket. The available videos online make it look easy to use but it’s apparent to me that it will take some time for me to make accessing my cards a matter of routine. The elastic grips the cards quite tight – which is good for retaining them – but it is a little tricky to push them up and get a good grip on them. As I said, it will probably just take some practice to develop a preferred technique. The cash handling also takes some getting used to. It’s necessary to fold the bills over twice to make a small packet, which limits the number that can conveniently be carried. However, I know that I’ve always carried a lot more cash than necessary (especially these days) and can get used to having fewer bills on me. Ridge also makes some accessories that could be useful, such as a money clip to replace the cash strap and a thin “coin tray” that can hold small objects such as coins or a key and be slipped in with the cards. Overall this is a really well-designed product that should last me indefinitely and easily replace the types of bulky leather wallets that I’ve been carrying all my life. I guess you really can teach an old dog some new tricks -- consider me a minimalist wallet convert!
