    A little flakey

This unit has a number of idiosyncrasies. You have to cycle the power off and on again before the computer will recognize discs inserted into the device. If you have 2 drives mounted you can't unmount just a single drive. If you eject just a single drive and remove it the second drive will also be unmounted and you will get a warning that the second disc drive was improperly removed. The unit will take the drive(s) offline at random intervals for no apparent reason. (This usually doesn't happen until the drives have been mounted for at least a few hours but makes it a real pain to do overnight backups.) If you're using the unit for temporary storage or transferring files it's okay, but I wouldn't trust it to be able to make backup copies overnight without going offline. I have two of these units, but only because I really need this functionality and I can't find any alternatives locally. I wouldn't have bought the second one if I could find a reasonably priced (or indeed any) alternative in the area. If it weren't for the randomly going offline I give this 3/5 stars and a lukewarm 'buy' recommendation. I'm running this on MacPros using OS 10.10.4 (Yosemite).

I bought this docking station because I had corrupted my original HD in my computer. I had purchased a new drive from Best Buy and needed an easy way to transfer my previously made clone to the new drive prior to installation in my computer. It worked perfectly. Later, I decided to upgrade my computer to an SSD. Again I used the docking station to clone the drive in the computer to the SSD prior to installing the SSD. Again it worked perfectly. This is a great product. Well built.

Can read up to two hard drives at a time, though a usb 3.0 port with its propper cable that came with it. PROS: Fast Reliable Convenient Two SATA drives at a time Laptop and desktop drives compatible CONS: You need electric outlet to set it up Not totally portable, it is a little bulky to carry around, though you CAN carry it around Does not have IDE compatible ports Take it for what it is... a SATA hard drive reader, and it is very good and useful at that.

I thought I would get more than 2 years of use not everyday but when I needed it. It was more of a part time backup and now it's dead. The unit was hot to the touch and we all know what that means, fried, shortage, burned up, no power at all. Again it worked for what I used it for but not as long as I would have liked for it to have lasted. I've decided not to waist time calling the company and go through the hassle of explaining how, what and when did it stop working. This was based on trying to create an account on their webpage and it went nowhere, still waiting on the confirmation email, nothing. So for the price I'll try another brand and see how long a different brand will last,

This device works as expected but don't push the ejection button too hard when dealing with SSD drive. It'll fly out.

I have had this a bit now. Was very handy for doing my hard drive upgrades. Allowed me to install my drives the way I wanted them and then transfer the data from old drives I was replacing to the new drives in the computer. Data Transfer rates were not too bad and has been handy for small back ups and transferring larger things between computers. Has worked well over all and has been quite handy.

Great hub; has made testing 300+HDDs easier than an enclosure. Only reason for a four star rating is the USB 3.0 cable. The thing is high quality and as a consequence thick. Because of the way the cord is packaged, (and its girth), it has kinks that aren't easily removed. Fantastic product regardless.

    Retrieve files from damaged PC

My PC recently bit the dust so, I had to buy a new one. The issue - how to get the files off my damaged computer. This little gadget did the trick beautifully. You do have to remove the hard drive from the computer you are trying to get the files from, which is easy enough - you then put the hard drive into this docking station, and you can transfer the files from the hard drive to your new PC. Very easy!

I recently had a major hard drive crash and decided I needed the ability to rapidly clone my drives onto backup drives which could be locked away in a drawer until (hopefully never) needed. This docking station was the perfect answer. It allows me to plug in a bare bones drive to use as a backup from my main PC without a lot of fanfare.

I bought this to add the ability to hot swap hard drives. i do a lot of photo/video editing and have accumulated lots of hard drives over the years. With this device i was able to go through my files on several drives organize them and then label the drives for future use. What a time saver, and allowed me to use drives i had packed away and have not used in years. I will list some pros and cons below hope it helps! Pros: 1) Fast 3.0 usb speeds. (must have an available 3.0 usb port off the motherboard or a 3.0 pci-e card) 2) Built well and sturdy. Even with (2) 3.5" hard drives inserted the unit was stable and not top heavy. 3) Accepts both 3.5" and 2.5" hard drives 4) Plug and Play Cons: 1) Accepts only hard drives. The ability to plug in 3.0 Flash drives would of been a big+ for those lacking a 3.0 usb port on their towers front panel. 2) Although this is speculation i believe the eject buttons may not stand the test of time. Works very well with the smaller 2.5" drives but the 3.5" requires some assistance. Most likely a weight issue. 3) Supplied usb 3.0 chord is 4 ft. i purchased an additional 8 ft chord for more flexibility with placement.

This box is a great addition to the computer as it holds two drives a 3 1/2 inch and a 2 1/2 inch or two 3 1/2 or two 2 1/2. I used to clone a couple of hard drives work great. Now it's set with 26 TB 3 1/2 inch drives and has been great for copying a lot of files over for storage You can pull the drives hot and not lose data or be afraid of ruining anything the 3.0 USB is very fast and copies the file quickly.

This dock is perfect. Not only for connecting single drives, but for transferring files between two docked drives via a connected computer. Works fully with Mac and Windows, but only works with one slot at a time under Linux. I only wish it had a feature to copy files between drives without a computer.
