This thing is awesome. I had one previously that only held one drive. It went bad, so I needed a backup. This was a little more than I wanted to spend but, now that I have it...I'm glad I was forced into this option. This is hands down the best external dock I've used to date!

Works pretty good but I noticed that when 2 drives are inserted neither is recognized. Ok for using as a single drive docking station but I couldn’t copy from one drive to another.

Having bought the previous version of this dock (USB 2.0 connectivity) I was looking forward to the speed boost of the USB 3.0 interface on this unit. All in all I can say this unit performs well.

Requires usb 3.0 connection. Easy to format Sata drives. Haven't tried cloning a boot drive. It should work. I used it with Windows 10 pc system. Manufacturer claims it works with Mac OS. I ran a low level format on a 1 tb. 3.5 drive. The drive got really hot. It wouldn't hurt to place a fan on the drive to keep it cool for low level formatting. I would recommend doing a quick format then do a low level while in your new system.

This is the first one of these drives I've tried so I really don't have anything to compare it with, but so far it has worked fine and looks good on my desktop. Price seemed to be in line.

A bit pricy compared to other online sellers, but I needed to get one from the store, $70, I've had a few of these in the past, recently lost due to a fire, but the drives still are readable. Would be nice if they had the option to connect each drive to the pc so that transfers to disks also in the docking station are fast, currently it's 4x or more slower than copying to a separate drive (internal or external). For that price you would think that would be an option. I do expect this to last over 5 years based on past experience, so it's gonna be worth the cost as the cheap docks ($22 online) tend to break within a year or so..4 stars because out of the 10+ years they have been making this, they haven't added separate USB/eSata connections for each drive. Took 12 hrs to transfer 200gb from and to drives in the dock. So it's not good as a disk duplicator. I'm trying to condense 50+ drives damaged in the fire to large capacity internals in one shot (I don't know how long these drives will work due to the smoke and humidity) I got a cheap sata to USB adapter (online, $12) to connect my source drives and transfer to the dock, which seems to be around 50mbps to 100 at times.
Don't have the funds or time to rebuild my main pc (not til we settle with insurance) to get max transfer speed, but need to get the important data off these drives asap.
Also never had any issues with drives overheating while in this dock, that will depend on your ambient temp though. Very well built and will last 5+ years under normal operation.

The BlacX Duet is very simple to use—just plug in and you’re done. It was great for pulling HD from an old pc that had stopped working. So easy to switch out HD’s now I use the old HDs as backup drives. Great value for the price.

Easy to use. Quick and simple.
Only thing that I hoped to see is a free clone software that comes with it.
Had to go online and try several until I found one that suits my needs.

I needed an item that would copy or allow me to review and/or transfer from my old hard drive to the new current hard drive. It allowed me to review and determine if I wanted to keep the old information or not. Excellent product for me and my need.

I needed something to house the recovered disks from a burnt out NETGEAR READY NAZ NV+.
This device was ready to use minutes after unpacking. I just formatted my disks and it was ready to roll. I'm using it for my work computer with SSD drives.

The Thermaltake hard drive reader was a truly delightful discovery. I had installed an internal solid state hard drive and didn't need to back up my data. I used this device to transfer data as if the old internal hard drive were an external.

Upgrading from Blacx USB 2.0 Single Bay Dock

I already had an older USB 2.0 single bay dock and with the 2 bay dock on sale decided it was time to upgrade. Simple install and immediately recognized the dock and drive. Even came up with the same drive letter.
The only reason I gave 4 stars is the old dock had a metal base and was a little heavier. It may not make a difference in the long run, it overall it just 'felt' like a better, build.

This hard drive dock was just the ticket to get all of the information from some old hard drives that needed to be retrieved once the computers quit working. It also stand as as a great way to easily swap out hard drives to take on the go.

I have a dozen or so hard drives from old computers and was able to use this to access them without installing them in my new one. It acts as an external USB drive so now I use the extra drives for local archiving.

Like the unit as regularly swap HD for saving movies, photos, and music. However, I wished it had separate power switches for each drive instead running both drives.

The docking station brought the internal hard drives to live externally on my Mac. They mounted just as if they were external hard drive’s. We have 13 of these drives and it’s easy to use with multiple drives.

This docking station does everything that is advertised. Not sure I would have bought it if I hadn't got it on sale. Works great for dealing with loose drives but not something that I will use that often. While I like the dock and would buy it again, I am not sure this is something the average person would need. Mainly for people who do maintenance or build computers on a regular basis.
