Handled the job as expected
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For the price it worked amazingly. I would recommend this device to anyone requiring to retrieve information from a hard drive from a dead CPU. Afterwards I actually utilized this for external hardware support and for creating a back up for my new laptop. This device will do what you need. I do not recommend carrying internal hard drives around for use as a back up due to possible damage of your internal. There is no protection while transporting your hard drives.

Works as well.

Good buy - no issues o far
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have few 500 GB internal hard drives and did not want to throw them away. Using this product, I want to use them as backup. Instead of buying one large backup hard drive and have it crash, I think it is better to sue multiple smaller backup drives. I don't plan to keep docking station plugged in.

Great External Drive Substitute!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this because two of my external hard drives quit working. I was hoping that the hard drive was still functional. I removed the hard drives from the external housing and plugged them in to the Thermaltake and it immediately read them. I was able to get all of my data off of the drives and now I use this as an external hard drive. If your external hard drive quits working, get one of these before you give up on retrieving the data.

Great alternative to HDD Enclosure
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you're situation where you can't install more drives into your rig, swap between multiple drives or don't don't use a hotswap bay then this is a great alternative. Better than a HDD/SSD enclosure where it would be a hassle to remove and put another drive just to access. I do like the fact that it's external power and has a separate power switch so it can be left off when not in use. So far it hasn't caused any read errors.

Excellent Device for Flexible Storage
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently purchased the Thermaltake BlacX Enclosure and have used it for backup drives. It is extremely flexible, allowing you to connect both 2.5" and 3.5" drives through USB. It also allows you to use your own drives as externals so you don't have to purchase an entire external drive. This allows for better performance as you can use faster drives (i.e. 7200 RPM drives vs 5400 RPM drives) thorugh USB. I intended to use my SATA drive temporarily as an external for data backup but later as an internal drive in a new computer and this system allowed me to work on both. It is also useful for those to want to transfer data from a dead computer or to a new computer as you can simply plug the drive in, copy the files, and then install in in your PC.

Very pleased
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first experience with a hard drive enclosure. Thought I would give it a try on a hard drive that wouldn't work that I wanted to get some files off of. It crashed on my dell desktop. The first 3 times that I put the bad hard drive in the enclosure, message popped up telling me that the hard drive had a problem and did I want to try and fix it. I said yes all 3 times. The enclosure then was able to get all of my documents and pictures that I wanted. I never did try to see if the fixed hard drive would work in the computer or not but I did get the files I wanted.

Nice device for hard drive cloning or for backups.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this to use for hard drive cloning and backup purposes. It's pretty much plug and play -- which, with the proper software you can accomplish any cloning or backup task with it. I believe that you can also boot from a hard drive plugged the Thermaltake -- however, I ran into issues with a laptop with UEFI enabled. The OS would start to boot, but stall out with errors. I gather that with some experimentation, I will be able to overcome this issue. Also even though the unit is rated for USB3 it will operate on a USB2 port. Finally, there is no eSATA interface on the single bay unit -- only one USB3 port.

Works Great!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had an external drive that became non-responsive. After a little research, I learned it was likely the power source and this became the obvious answer. I simply dismantled my old external drive and put the bare HDD into this. It was very easy and I now have access to my backup drive as well as the other HDDs that I pulled out of my old computers before recycling them. This product is great.

Naslite
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It is great for media sharing across my LAN. I connected mine to a Raspberry Pi and can easily switch out drives for media I have stored. It is great if you have a bunch of older drives sitting around collecting dust. Works with 2.5 and 3.5 drives

Best way to save your data on a crashed windows
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This device helps you save your data if your windows computer has crashed but the drive still works. You need another working computer to use it. Remove your hard drive from the crashed computer and use this to access it as an external drive on a working computer. Save your data files before trying to remedy the crashed units operating system.

This is great for retrieving data from old drives
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was looking for some way to retrieve data from the old hard drive in a machine that had failed. I was thinking of something to make it an external hard drive. The salesman suggested this and it has been great! I can swap in and out hard drives to retrieve data from old ones, but then it works great with the 1TB drive I had as my main backup.
