The inside has a nice padded foam. I park my computer in the case when not in use and still looks new.

There's some edge protection, an inner strap to hold the laptop in place during transit, and water-resistant zippers. The clamshell design is convenient for use while still in the case; it just doesn't accommodate plugs/cords very well.
