So far it does not appear as user friendly as my previous one. I purchased it primarily for the updated maps and it has taken me the wrong way at least twice. Still learning & tryning to give it a chance thinking it might be a user problem instead of the device.

Great bargain GPS unit

The sequence to plan a route is by entering the street address first, than the city, finally the state. This is very inefficient. It was more efficient to enter the city and state first and then the street address. I have not figured out how to save the routes. The TomTom GO 50S does not come with any user guide.

If I were buying again I would probably stay with the Garman, even though screen size is smaller

I am sorry to hear that, although the size was to your liking, the TomTom GO 50 was not able to meet your expectations. Please note that you can change the search scope on your device. By default the whole map will be search however you can narrow it down to either zip code or town. It could perhaps be that the location you intended to find was not in your search scope. Have to spend sometime get familiar with it... Worth the extra $40 to get the 5S. The 3-D view makes it very interesting. It recalculates much faster than other manufacturer. I am happy with my purchase.

During my last move, it disappeared. I went shopping for a replacement and saw this model. I just hoped it would be as good as the old one. You know how companies sometimes let the quality lapse once they've won their part of the market. Well, I'm happy to say that my new TomTom is much better than my old one. It's easier to program, there are more options to save destinations, and it is serious about finding the best route. I doubted it on a recent trip because I had always gone one way there. This little jewel found a great short cut and though I was skeptical at first, this cut 45 minutes off my time. I really love this GPS!!
