Bought 2, both died w/in 75 days, Best Buy No Help

I purchased 2 55 inch Toshibas for an Airbnb so I kind of cheaped out trying to save about $50 or so dollars over a comparable Samsung, Vizzio or LG. Huge mistake. One died and completely stopped functioning and I thought it was cable. Cable came out and showed me it was TV. Not more than maybe 2 hours later, my 7 year-old was watching cartoons on the other and it just went blank. This one is doing the same thing. Turn on and screen is blank. Turn off and turn on again . . . nothing. Best Buy tells me to bring them in and they will exchange them. So I take them down, bring them in and the, in a very rude and condescending manner, tell me I should have paid the extra $50 for Geek Squad on these $350 TVs and they would not do anything for me but give me Toshiba's number and tell me to take them back home. I purchased 2 more Samsungs to replace as I had to have working TVs for this Airbnb and my sales person said this happens "pretty frequently" on those and its a "processor issue." "Get a Samsung" he said. Just purchased these 55 inch Toshibas about 70 days ago. They were perhaps delivered less than 60 days ago. Even when they worked, they had an annoying boot up screen that you had to navigate before you could watch them. Never again. Spend the few extra dollars to avoid an inferior product that may end up dying and Best Buy won't stand behind or help you with unless you spend n extra $50 for Geek Squad.

    Almost a good budget TV

Let me start off by saying that toshiba has been around for a long time. I have had a older tube tv by toshiba for SEVERAL years. This 55in has a spectacular picture in my opinion. There only thing that caused me to return it was the fact that, how do I put this, it would have small sections on the screen that would do a jitter or stutter effect in various places. This was sporadic but did happen pretty often while watching anything from Blu Ray to HD satellite to a mp4 in HD. After trying multiple things to try and figure out what was causing this, the conclusion upon reading other reviews with this similar issue, I decided it was hardware based (meaning, something with the processing of the video was not being handled right to cause the jittering in sporadic sections of the screen) and I wasn't going put up with that, even for a budget tv. Any TV should play flawlessly and smoothly without any hiccups. So I returned it in replacement for a TCL of same size and price. Which I will be giving a review as well. Please note I have read worse issues with this model but the majority of the issues were similar to mine that has 1 to 3 stars rating. It appears that the engineering of this budget tv shows the quantity vs quality in the number is reviews I have read on this model. I'm giving one star because any New TV should always play the video flawlessly. If you buy this model you may get lucky and get a solid one. But the chances are higher that you'll get one with an issue. Hope this helps.

    JUNK! Stay Away!

Purchased the TV during a door buster sale. ($350). The picture was decent, nothing special. I noticed some blur during fast movements. The sound without surround is bad. I do not like the interface when the TV first starts. (Home Screen) It will not stay on the last selection you picked when you turn the TV off. You will always have to choose HDMI 1 for cable TV when you turn it on. Kind of annoying. After 4 days the TV went completely dead in the middle of the Army vs Navy game. Returned it and got another, only because of the price and the because of the placement of the this TV's legs (Center Mount) The legs on this TV saved me from money from buying a stand or mount because they allowed me to use my old TV stand that is not very wide. Hooked up the second TV directly out of the box and the sound started making a digital cracking sound within 1 hour of use. Returned it and purchased a 65 Sharp Roku ($499). Amazing TV, I am so happy. These TV's are JUNK!!!! Besides the two I return, I also noticed they had another one of these in the open box area. No telling how many more they had in the back. I wasted a lot of time with this product, don't make the same mistake. I did some research after the two returned TV's, Compal Electronics???? Is the company that makes these TVs. These are not the reliable Japanese made toshiba's that we used to buy in the old days. It is just Rebaged JUNK.

The first couple of days it worked great! Way better/faster software than the TCL tv I exchanged it for. We watched Prime Video and everything was great once it was set up except maybe a minor blip right after set up which I just figured might have been software updates. Then today I have my mother in law and mother with the rest of my family to watch a movie, but this time using DIRECT TV Now. All of a sudden less than 3 min in the whole TV freezes and the image becomes green static. We figured maybe it was just a poorly made app by DTV since I’ve had issues on my Apple TV with that app because it was in beta. However, I then attempted to find the movie on the HBOgo app—same thing happened. And when the static came, I couldn’t even control it with the remote or press the power button to turn it off and on. I had to reconnect it. I tried plugging it directly into the wall rather than surge protector— still problems. Clearly there’s an issue once you use any app within the firetv software other than prime video. Determined to watch the movie since I had company over, I figured that if it’s a software issue, and I just used my Apple TV which is hooked up to HDMI 2 input it would work. I was right. So it works when I do anything that isn’t a streaming app. It works when I use my input. There’s a little distortion in the picture for a quick second on the input but nothing too bad. I wanted it to work SO bad... but no. I would love to say it’s a fluke but based on some of the other reviews it sucks. Apparently, there’s an issue With the first tv editions and it’s more glitchy than if you bought a regular TV and added a firestick separately. I wish they would do something about this major inconvenience having to keep switching and forcing me to buy a new TV that is $50+ more because you all couldn’t sell me a TV that does what it is supposed to do.

Hi! My family bought this TV 3 days ago (Dec 23) from our local Best Buy in Snellville, GA, and once again 2 days ago (Dec 24). Yep, thats right we had to buy this TV twice because the first one stopped working over night. Worked just fine out of the box and we loved it, but turned it off over night and woke up to find that our TV didn't work anymore. We returned the first one and exchanged it for another one hoping to have better luck. Ironically enough, the exact same thing happened to our 2nd new TV. Right in the middle of watching our new new TV, the screen went completely black but sound kept playing. Called the actual Toshiba Troubleshooting number, and was told there was absolutely nothing we could do to try and fix our now second broken TV. We were told on the phone that we were not the only ones experiencing this problem with the FIreTV. Now we are returning to Best Buy tomorrow morning to return our dead TV and hopefully get a full refund. Don't get me wrong, the TV has (well had in our case) such a beautiful picture and qualities but too bad we only got to experience them for 2hrs :) Please don't waste your time and money on this TV, especially if you are buying from Snellville, GA location since there must be something wrong with their shipment of FireTVs. Hopefully this TV ends up working out for you and you don't have to go through 2 of them in less than 24 hrs like my family had to.

We bought this TV on Black Friday after reading such good reviews here, and it arrived 2 days ago. After picking it up, it was very easy to use and intuitive. so me and my family were excited for the purchase. Soon I noticed the microphone button on the Voice Remote with Alexa was not working; after looking it up online, I found out it was a common issue on the remotes. I was considering not sending it back just for that, but today, 2 days after picking the TV up from the store, the image went black in the middle of a movie. The sound kept going and stopped after a couple of seconds. We have unplugged it and plugged it back, disconnecting everything, waiting a few hours and nothing has worked. The little blue light on the lower-right corner still lights up when turning it on, but there's no image; we could also hear the Netflix app starting up on one occasion, but even then the screen was black. It is such a shame to have to return it, and such a waste of time. This might be an isolated incident but if this had happened after the 15 day period on Best Buy's return policy, it could have been money down the drain.

Screen darkens randomly, sound stopped working

We've had the TV for less than a month and will have to return it for an exchange or a different model altogether... This TV has some nice Smart features and works very well with Amazon Prime, Netflix, various other apps, etc. Unfortunately, the screen randomly gets darker from time to time for no apparent reason. This usually will happen several times in a row and last for 2-20 seconds each time. The TV also will automatically revert to the home screen when you turn it on unless you find the setting which forces it to automatically turn to the last input used when powered on. Odd, but at least there is a setting to correct this. The speakers sounded very "tinny" from the day we got it, but the sound has stopped altogether now so I am not sure if there was something wrong with them from the beginning or if it is a design flaw. The speakers face down instead of our toward the listener, so I think the poor sound is tied more to that design but can't say for sure. Overall, I think we got a lemon, but the picture and the Smart features were very good until the sound/dimness issues forced us to return it...

I purchased this tv and I was so excited because it had FireTv included and looked like a great TV, well I received it and once I set it up I noticed the screen would flicker in certain places, definitely not what I want in a TV. I thought it was my WiFi connection at first but turns out it wasn't, I returned the first tv and received another in less than a week, but upon setting that one up, the exact same thing would happen, even when I switched to cable. I looked up some reviews on amazon and Best Buy and a lot of people have been having the same issue with this TV, it is called screen tearing and I would not be okay paying so much for a TV that was faulty, and not just one, but two. I ended up choosing a different TV, I am getting a Samsung, and hopefully I have a better experience with that one than I had with this one. I am truly disappointed.

Just put together the 2nd TV after having to exchange the first one 4 days after purchase. Still same issue. Screen jitters/pixelates about every 10 mins or so from both sides. Dark areas on the screen are faded looking and fizz out. Thought maybe it was the cable connection but it sounds as though others who have purchased this same TV are having similar issues. Image quality over all is not worth the price. Very frustrated that I once again have to unmount the TV and return to Best Buy for the 3rd time. I love the Toshiba brand and the fact that it came with fire stick but maybe this time I’ll purchase a Samsung instead. I would just like a TV that works. Very disappointed with this Toshiba model.

    Volume majorly lags and fluctuates

My husband and I bought this tv about 2 months ago at our local Best Buy after reading good reviews. The volume is constantly behind when the characters are speaking (starts about 5 minutes after watching and progressively gets worse). Another issue is that if you pause the tv and come back to after about 30 seconds - 1 minutes, the volume will be blasting as loud as it can, then you try and lower the volume and about the time it gets to a decent level, it will go to as quiet of a level as it can, so you have to raise the volume back up again. Unfortunately my husband threw away the receipt and box as soon as we got home so we weren't able to return the tv. I wish there was something we could do; we are both very upset and feel like we wasted $400.

I have the same problem that some other one star reviewers have. I l went to the store left the tv on and when I came back it was a black screen but you can still hear sound. I put a flashlight up to the TV and see a a dim image of the channel or app meaning the backlight is out. If you read other one star reviews and forums; this is a common problem. I bought this tv on 5/22. It just broke today 5/12; far outside bestbuy return dates. Buyer beware; buy a better quality TV. Even if Toshiba is willing to replace free of charge its always at the inconvenience of the consumer. Do not take the risk that your tv is one of the duds if you can avoid it

For cable or over the air input choose another TV

There is no easy way to select or move from one channel to another. It has little concept of channel numbering and prefers to use station identifiers. Even with that it takes several clicks on the remote to move from one channel to the next and there is no way to follow channel numbering (no channel up or down) and no way to enter a number except by voice and that is annoying and slow. It remembers most recently selected channels and rearranges next channel selections which can be mildly useful but still fails to denote channel numbers during selection and there is little in the way of consistency. I would not recommend this if using cable or even over the air inputs.

This maybe my first 1 star review. In fact, I would rate the TV - 0 stars. I read many of the reviews before purchasing this tv. I took into account both the positive and negative reviews. My thought process was that their were nearly 1,000 reviews on this tv, with 90% rating a 4 or 5 star. So I took a chance. Bad mistake. I spent over 2 hours trying to get this tv up and running. The tv would not turn on and the software would not load. The tv turned itself off and rebooted many times. I gave up. Boxed the tv up and returned it to the store. This tv should not be on the market. I cannot stress enough, DO NOT BUY.

I got this TV on Black Friday, it was great out of the box, we got it up on the wall, no problems. video quality is ok, not the best but for the price paid for it is ok. the fact that every time you turn the TV on and it is in the AMAZON mode it is quite annoying but livable with. However, yesterday watching a football game the screen just went off, I could hear the game but no video whatsoever. not my first time experiencing dead screen with Toshiba, I assumed the first time would be a separated incident, but it is already twice with this brand. first with a Laptop, now with a TV. I guess I will stay away from that brand. I am returning the TV today.

Purchased it, Installed it and magically the unit turns itself on at night. Checked the settings, turned off the screen saver and waited a while (about 10 minutes) and it turns itself on. Took the batteries out of the remote to be sure that I didn't have a bad remote. It came on again. called Toshiba and tried what they said to do, still didn't work. Brought it back to Best Buy and they took it back and gave me another one. The new one does the same thing. Called Toshiba and the same thing. Tried a few things but no help. Toshiba said they would come by and pick it up or I could bring it back to Best Buy. Maybe my store has a bad batch, but, I'm done with this.

Really loved this TV and its Specs for the Price. However just after a week i had display solarization issue and had to return it. Not sure if its a faulty T-Con board or the Main Board. But i am glad i caught this within the return period. For this size of a TV, return process is not easy, unless you have a helping hand.

Screen went black after 19 days. Returned to Best Buy without issue. Funny thing is they weren’t surprised and had seen a lot of them being returned. I didn’t get another one because I don’t care for the lack of numbers on the remote and the soud quality wasn’t very good. But I’m also probably more critical than most when it comes to sound quality. I’d recommend a sound bar at the least. Otherwise I really liked the TV. It had an awesome picture and great features. Not going to take another chance on Toshiba, so I’m still shopping around.

I purchased this tv, brought it home and within less than 24hrs called the store so I can return it. Picture is pixelated and blotchy, it freezes and looks almost to shake or spasm at times. I used it to watch a movie with my daughter and the whole time the picture would lag, and freeze. I don’t know if this is just an isolated incident with my particular tv, but being the tech person that I am, I am very disappointed.

I’ve had this TV for about 6 months and I have another appointment to replace the board. This TV is horrible and I want to upgrade and get a more reputable brand BUT I can’t until manufacturer finally gives up and realizes the TV is defective... By the time my TV is certified defective it will be Xmas and I will STILL be w/o a TV. I should’ve spent the extra $100-$200 to purchase a Sony or Samsung instead....#NOTHAPPY
