Nice Portable Hard Drive
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My NeoTv Max plays videos using this hard drive, using no external power source. One USB 3.0 cable does the job. Don't know how reliable this unit will be.

Posted .Thank you for the review, Reggie, and sorry to hear about the unusual beeping sound.
This can indicate that there's a problem with the USB port or that the drive isn't getting sufficient power from the USB bus. For starters, if it is currently connected to a USB hub I recommend connecting the drive directly to the USB port. If the same problem occurs, try connecting to a different USB port and if it still occurs, try connecting to a different computer.
If the drive works on a different computer and other USB devices work fine when connected to the original computer then it's likely that the original computer isn't providing sufficient power over the USB connection to operate the drive.
If the drive proves to be defective you can initiate Toshiba's warranty replacement process at acclaim.toshiba.com anytime during its 1-year warranty.
Thanks again for the feedback and sorry for the trouble.

Worked then died
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This worked nicely for my iMac for Time Machine 3 times. Used it on a PC laptop prior and everything was fine and dandy. It's not even a year and a half old and it suddenly died today for no reason whatsoever. It was stored properly, never dropped, never shaken, never nothing. Flashing white light, won't show up on the desktop. Pathetic. Avoid this brand and find something else.

Posted .Thank you for the review, bester and sorry to hear that you had ran into some sort of problem with your Toshiba Canvio Basics hard drive.
One possible cause of a USB drive not reliably making a connection (to any PC or Mac) is marginally insufficient power on the USB port. When that's the problem, there are a couple of ways to supplement the power from a single USB port which may resolve the issue:
1. Use of a USB splitter or Y-cable to combine the power of two USB ports, such as this: http://www.amazon.com/eForCity-dual-Micro-B-Cable-Black/dp/B005M0ICG2/ref=pd_sim_pc_1
2. Use of a powered USB hub between the drive and the computer
If neither of these workarounds solves the problem (or if you prefer not to use them) you can initiate Toshiba's warranty replacement process at acclaim.toshiba.com.
Thanks for the feedback and for choosing Toshiba.
