... what a let down. Sleek, light weight, compact laptop. Performance was totally sufficient for business use and web browsing. Loved the key board. The problem these days is that laptops seem not to last anymore. 1.5 year into use, laptop started to crash regularly in midst of work. Re-installed all software. A couple of months later it’s become useless, so much so that I have to know buy a new one. Exasperating and disappointing.

I bought 2 (1 for my sis) and both came with the same problem. They simply shut down out of the blue all the time and usually I have problems moving the cursor. Besides, one of them (mine) does not recognize the battery :(

Thank you for the review, Dede, and sorry to hear about the shutdown issue with your Satellite L15-B1330s.
When I saw that you were reporting the same problem on two different systems I immediately checked the other two low star-rating reviews for this model, but no one else seems to be experiencing this symptom. While that's inconclusive, it does make me wonder if there have been software installations or configuration changes on both units that may have introduced this problem.
To help clarify whether this is a hardware or software issue, I recommend performing a Windows Reset. This will restore the software and Windows configuration to factory condition and would resolve any problems caused by software changes or additions. See the Toshiba Forums community knowledge base article and its embedded video at forums.toshiba.com/t5/System-Recovery-and-Recovery/How-To-Understanding-System-Restore-Refresh-Reset-and-Recovery/ta-p/342690 for detailed instructions on how to perform a Windows Reset or System Recovery.
If the Windows Reset procedure doesn't resolve the shutdown issue please visit support.toshiba.com or call Toshiba support at 800-457-7777 for troubleshooting help and, if needed, to make repair arrangements.
Thanks again for the feedback and for choosing Toshiba.

Thank you for the review, Meee and sorry to hear that you're apparently having some sort of performance problem with your Satellite L15-B1330.
This model is equipped with Intel Celeron N2840 Processor and 2GB of RAM which, while an entry level configuration, is fully capable of handling typical day-to-day consumer computing needs such as email, social media, and general web browsing.
I wonder how long you've had this unit and if perhaps Windows Update has been busy downloading & installing updates. That's typically the case with brand new systems, and if so it will tax initial performance until the updating process is completed.
If you feel that you're not getting the appropriate performance for this hardware configuration, please contact Toshiba support at 800-457-7777.
Thanks again for the feedback and for choosing Toshiba.

Nice laptop - poor keyboard

I was looking for a cheap laptop to use for internet browsing and word processing and this one has everything I was looking for. It boots up quickly, has good battery life and a nice display. Everything looks and works great, especially for the price - except the keyboard.
There are several keys that when you press them they don't register unless you press them exactly in the middle. This has been very frustrating and makes typing a chore. My typing speed is about half as fast as it normally is because letters like "t" and "m" only register about 2/3 of the time. Perhaps it is just me and they way I type, but I have never used a keyboard that works this poorly. If this computer interests you, I highly recommend going to the store and trying it out for a few minutes before you buy. Maybe you will have better success.
Unfortunately, the typing is bad enough for me to be a deal breaker. It's too bad because I like everything else about this computer.

This is a great laptop for basic stuff. It is light and has a pretty good battery life. Note that this has an SSD of 128 GB. It boots and loads apps very fast. I had some initial concerns about the 2 GB RAM, but it works pretty well despite it. Probably good enough for most tasks. Haven't tried playing games on it but it was not why I got this laptop. Great build quality is a definite plus. Better keyboard than the more expensive Lenovo and Asus laptops out there.

Very Nice Laptop for the Price

I'm an Apple-aholic, so this purchase was difficult for me. I wanted something for my wife and I to use for quick internet use, and our son for his Pre-K learning tools. As I'm not going to buy a Macbook Air, this item caught my eye as it has the 128GB SSD drive and not the slow HDD. For the price, I was willing to take the chance. Although I'm not going to transition everything else to Window's based OS, this is pretty impressive for the price. Not sure how it could be rated slow, as it's not. Could it be faster? Sure it could, but, it's $199 (July 4th sale). I type 65 words + per minute and haven't had a problem with the keyboard. The "tab" key is narrow, but big deal.
Overall, it's a nice machine and can't understand a negative comment. Just like anything else, if you want super performance, etc, you have to spend the money. If you're looking for a nice reliable machine, please give this one a shot. Just like I say to my friends, take the negative comments with a grain of salt. If you don't like it, return and try something else. It pains me to compliment a non-Apple device, but I must do so in this case. Very happy I chose this one and hope you at least give it a try.

Pros:
_lightweight
_128 Gb of SSD
Cons:
_Screen size
_Keyboard (size and keys distribution)
_Touchpad (definitely have to buy an additional mouse)
_Only 2 Gb. of RAM
_Win 8
_Useless preinstalled software
The laptop works pretty well, but I'm thinking seriously to install a less bulky OS like Win7.
As I travel a lot, it's a good alternative for certain occasions in which I only need basic features and don't want to carry my Macbook.
Also it can be used at home connected with bigger screens (it has HDMI), with a decent keyboard and mouse.

Performs adequately for email and internet activities. The 2 GB of RAM is a limitation but is much better than the other inexpensive laptops with only 1 GB. I was planning to upgrade to 8GB of RAM since you can buy 8 GB of RAM for $40. But, when I removed the back cover the RAM is not easily accessible. I would need to remove the whole back cover and some internal boards to get to the RAM. Not willing to take that risk with a new machine. The Disk drive is readily accessible but you don't need to upgrade the 128 GB SSD. It is fast and has 85 GB remaining even with all of the bloatware that comes pre-loaded on the machine.
Speaking of bloatware even before I ask it to do anything there are 4 Apps, 58 background processes and 24 Windows processes running. Gotta get rid of the bloatware to improve performance.
The Windows 10 upgrade is free but takes hours to do. Probably would not have upgraded if I knew in advance that it would take that long.
But in spite of these limitations, it is a great little laptop and I would buy it again if I needed another.
