I was looking for a secondary laptop to do freelance work on when I was away from home. I was worried that windows 8 wouldn't work with my version of photoshop and that it wouldn't be fast enough. WOW, was I wrong. Photoshop CS5 installed without any problems and runs like a champ. This has become my primary laptop and my $2000 laptop from 5-6 years ago is collecting dust. For this price, I am more than happy with this laptop. The only thing this laptop seems to be lacking so far is good speakers. They are alright, but nothing amazing. It doesn't have a backlit keyboard, but I always turn that off anyway. The webcam is "HD" but the quality is your basic cheap webcam blown up to HD size. None of these are deal breakers for me because the keyboard is really comfortable and quiet, and I have good headphones and good computer speakers. Haven't tried any video editing yet, but graphic design and web development tasks have been great! If you wanna save a lot of money and aren't editing movies, this laptop is for you.

    Great laptop for basic use

I was in need of a laptop with a bigger screen that could handle my everyday tasks - office productivity software, web browsing (mostly social media, sports, news and medical reference websites) and music/video streaming. This laptop has been able to handle these things easily! Internet browsing speeds will be largely dependent on your ISP and allotted speed. I feel this computer could handle simple image editing w/o issues b/c most of my usage has the RAM running b/t 33-45%. Make sure you uninstall all of the bloatware. I would NOT use this laptop for gaming. I originally paid $249.99 and 1 week later it went on sale for $229.99. BB refunded the difference under their price match guarantee, no questions asked! This is my first Toshiba laptop and have enjoyed my short experience with it. I was expecting to hate Windows 8.1 (coming from Windows 7) and actually like it! The transition is easy if you have experience using tablets. Overall, I believe this laptop is a great bang for your buck if you want a basic machine for basic tasks.

    its a LOW budget laptop

I bought this laptop recently because I was on a budget. It has lagged a little on me on a few web pages and has had an unexpected error when opening my first pre-installed app BUT I have barely used it for a week. I'v heard the fan come on a few time, mostly at start-up. They key board FEELS nice, takes some getting use to because the keys are all together so iv had a tendency to hit other keys It isn't super fast but from my personal experience it isn't super slow. It is all plastic, feels delicate like not much protection? idk how to explain it lol my other laptop was all metal so if it got sat on or anything by accident, it was protected, this is all plastic so It just feels delicate. I came from a tough screen, I think windows 8 is essential for touch screen BUT that is a personal thing lol OHHH the power key has a cool light around it and the NUM LOCK & CAPS LOCK keys have lights too! OVERALL: For the price, its a great basic laptop, which is what I needed (web browsing, emails not much picture/music storage# so its works great for me, no problems #so far) Personally: you cant compare this laptop to ANY Apple product or high end Windows because this is a LOW budget laptop and like many have said you get what you pay for. I just hope Toshiba warranty department is good IF I do have issues I don't want any grief! A few people I know have Toshiba lap tops they have had for years, hope I fit into that category :-)

    Best entrance level laptop

This laptop is one of the best entrance level laptops, which has Intel Celeron 2.16GHz CPU, 4GB Memory, and 500GB Hard Drive , for the price under $200. I have had it for about 2 months and used it nearly everyday. So far I haven't had any problem except the pre-installed Norton utility program that made the internet connection interrupted periodically. After removing it, I have never experienced any internet connection interrupted. The good features that this laptop has include the responsible keyboard, reasonable screen resolution (1366x768), 3 USB ports (including 1 USB 3.0), 1 HDMI and its light weight. The bad features that this laptop has include the difficult access to all function keys, not replaceable battery, and too light for laptop base (hard to keep base on desk while opening the lid). Overall, it is a good and best entrance level laptop for the price under $200.

Good for basic computing but slow

I bought this laptop as a birthday present for my 8-year-old son. I have owned a Toshiba laptop before and was pleased with its performance, so I chose to go with Toshiba for my son, and this one was at a very reasonable price. It is great for my son's needs (basic gaming, internet, e-mail, word processing) and he likes the Toshiba app features versus the traditional computer Desktop view, but it is extremely slow. Right out of the box before even loading any games or apps it was on the slow side. After loading only a few games, both the basic processing and internet search is agonizingly slow. Very disappointed with this aspect, and if it was my personal computer I would probably send it back, but my son is just happy to have a computer of his own and can handle the wait for everything to load.

    Great entry-level computer!

I purchased it for $199 a couple of weeks ago. Of course, it is entry level and you can't multi-task very much (I watch my Task Master to check memory and cpu usage). I was surprised that I was able to use my Corel Paintshop Pro X5 (photo editing). If you want a computer to check your email, watch netflix, hulu and youtube, surf the internet, this is the computer for you. The reason I purchased it was because it is so light weight. I am used to using a 17.3 inch that weight 7+ lbs. This is so light weight you hardly know it is on your lap. Also so much easier to take on vacation. Don't have to worry about my $1,000 laptop being stolen.

I purchased this computer cause my other one crashed. I needed it in a crunch and the price was right. I knew a few friends who had Toshiba products and didn't have any complaints, so I thought why not? Did I mentioned that the price was right:))) Anyway I do like the system, it has everything I need, including ports, bluetooth, DVD/Cd, HDMI port, and the little research I did on budget friendly laptops, it has EVERYTHING!!! So instead of being QUICK, FAST, and in a HURRY, I would say it's just quick. However if your looking for just basic computing needs this suits the bill. It is nice for the price, but I have a need for S-P-E-E-D!!!! Should you get one??? YES:) I'm I critical?? YES!!!:))

I liked the price available on the Toshiba laptop for my grandson, and this is the second one I have ordered in the past 45 days. The first I picked up within hours of the order; this one was confusing. I was told there was a slight delay in picking it up, then got an e-mail that it may take two weeks to get it to the store; later the same day received an e-mail that the laptop was ready for pick-up. I came close to cancelling the order because of the confusion. I did notice that the specs on the Best Buy website for this laptop were not the same listed on the Toshiba package, i.e., CPU processor 2.5 gig on Best Buy site, but 2.15 on the Toshiba product - very misleading.

Laptop is good - Windows 8 sucks!

The laptop is okay and still works even after our 4 year-old's constant gaming usage. The only major issue I encounter is the function key (Fn). On this particular laptop it is very inconvenient to use any of the F1 to F12 in combination with the alt key (for example) as you need to additionally use this Fn key, making it a total of three and not two keys being pressed simultaneously. The battery is also not that great. The worst thing about the laptop, however is Windows 8 (8.1). For the first time in my life, I am seriously considering the switch to Mac. I wish I could have gotten an older OS with the laptop. DON'T GET WINDOWS 8.X!!!

This is actually the third one of these Toshiba laptops($250) I've bought in the last year. 1st for me, then for two different friends less tech savvy. 4th friend bought his own. Screen size decent, but kind of smallish compared to a desktop with widescreen, but enough to get the job done. About 30 minutes battery time without being in eco mode. Windows 8.1 now standard, however, I feel touchpad is clunky with windows 8.1 and would recommend anyone buying this add on a Bluetooth wireless mouse to the purchase. This is NOT a touchscreen laptop. 4GB RAM should be enough for anyone but a gamer to get about 2-3 years out of this machine.

This was the very first laptop I ever bought so I didn't know how well it was going to be. To my surprise this was a extremely good computer for a very low price. I can watch video on this computer without having to worry about it buffering or crashing. It was also very easy to understand, and I love that it comes with a built-in webcam and mic. I couldn't have ask for a better laptop.

I originally bought this computer solely for the price and because it is among the few available with a CD/DVD drive, which I need for certain aspects of my work and other things. I did not expect much more and figured I'd be replacing it in the near future. However, so far, I have had absolutely NO problems (other than trying to figure out Windows 8, but that's just me, I guess!). In fact, it has worked better than other laptops I have had that cost more money. It is as fast now as the day I bought it almost a year ago. I am very happy with it!!

    Fairly Priced System

Bought for work -- not to play. System was fully functional out of the box and is worth the price. PRO: Battery life is exceptional. I run multiple Office 2013 pro and Viso apps and programs -- including Outlook -- for up to 6 or more hours per day and have yet to get a battery warning. Bluetooth and Wifi are on at all times. Performance is acceptable considering RAM & CPU. CON: Have never had a system delivered with as much unneeded and vulnerable software as this device was. Had to install MalWareBytes and CCleaner to get control and functionality of the laptop -- especially the browsers.

Can't say enough about it. I was looking for a windows media machine. I plugged it into my 27" monitor, and it just did the job. Turns out that it is more than powerful enough for my "real" computer needs too. Hod to delete the microsoft cpu devices from device manager to get full power, but it is very fast. Wish it was easier to upgrade the memory, but that seems to be very doable. Nice machine. Good keyboard, great screen, nice sound, great graphics. Just nice. Great for the price.

Great laptop, especially for the price. Nice screen, responsive keyboard and trackpad. Other models in this price range didn't include DVD, USB 3.0 or even wired LAN. This one does. Standout battery life too at 6 hours+ Hard to beat that outside of Apples. Toshiba makes a great product. No problems with previous models that I have owned either. Thumbs up!

I don't understand, what were you waiting? There is writing laptop's specifications, overview and price! Didn't you read before buy? Dollar for dollar, just cpu value is $107,00, 500 GB HDD ~ $50, 4 GB DDR3L 1333MHz RAM ~ $44 etc. This laptop for internet browsing, chatting, download and upload. Just bad thing for me, my brother bought this for me $250, now it's price $230 ban!

I have already purchased 1 of these for my wife and one for my daughter and they have both worked flawlessly for them for about a year now. I haven't used mine much but it works great for me when I do. I use it primarily for surfing the web and business use. I attach external speakers because the internal ones are not good. Dispay is good and large enough memory and hard drive but memory can't be enlarged. However, it is a super value for the $199 I paid for it. I would definitely recommend it to a friend that doesn't need high speed or great sound.

I had an emergency need to purchase a computer and was hoping to not spend a ton of money. After looking around the store I noticed a bunch of people flocking to the Toshiba exhibit. I ventured over, read the specs and knew this was the computer I needed. I then completely fell in love with the unit when I saw the price. It was half the cost of a desktop. I immediately purchased my Toshiba and have not had one problem. The computer performs for what I need it to and has the versatility to travel anywhere I go.

Got this laptop to stop some of the fighting in my house over the other computer. It has actually turned out to be the better of my laptops and at half the price. We do not game on our laptop so it has never been an issue about speed it surfs the web great loads fast and was easy for my not so Tec savy signifacant other to learn. It does all the task we need very well. Overall a great pick up for my house hold. On a side note if you are not windows 8 ready you might wana read up with out a touch screan it can be a little tricky.
