    Do not buy!

    three months later the harddrive had a bunch of errors. cpu and disk usage was always at 100 even with no programs open it was impossible to get anything done last night the hard drive finally crashed it is now saying no bootable device lost an entire essay i typed i will NEVER in a million years buy a toshiba product please do not buy this it is not meant to last you will get 3 months max out of this and will be very dissappointed feels so flimsy,cheap and ugh even the screen quality is complete trash u need to tilt the screen to the sweetspot just to get decent color of what your looking at 250 dollars out the window

    Would not start up 3 weeks after purchase. Even factory reset didn't work. Only additional software installed was Offfice 365 purchased through Best buy. Toshiba customer service was responsive though. We shipped it back to Toshiba since the 2 weeks return to Best buy had expired. Hopefully we'll get it back in working condition. We purchased this basic laptop for basic tasks and didn't want another high end laptop at home.

    Terrible PC

    I bought the pc because of the great price and specs. Upon start up it froze. I restarted and was able to get through. Then the mouse is so unresponsive and feels terrible. My toshiba from 2006 has better responsiveness than this laptop. Ive had it less than 1 hour and I will be returning it now. Terrible!!!!!!!!

      Thank you for the review, ZeGerman, and sorry to hear that your new laptop seems unresponsive.

      I wonder if Windows Update has perhaps been busy downloading & preparing updates for installation. That's often the case on brand new systems, and if so it will tax initial performance for a period of time when the system is brand new. You may want to run the Windows Update app to see what it's up to, if anything. If it has critical updates to install, I recommend having it complete that process ASAP and reboot when it's finished (even if not required) to see if performance improves significantly once that process is complete.

      I don't recommend letting Windows Update install any "optional" updates since those can overwrite drivers & utilities that are optimized for or by Toshiba. Optional updates can be installed via the Toshiba Service Station app or by visiting support.toshiba.com.

      Of course, the perceived speed & responsiveness of any PC will depend somewhat on the number of programs and processes currently running on the unit at any point in time, and their respective demands on various components, subsystems, and networking resources.

      Regarding general touchpad response time, slight delays can sometimes be caused by an application or service being prioritized above those user inputs. In the worst of cases the system may be consuming too many resources on a runaway process to respond to input in a timely manner. Or, as mentioned above, the system may be busy installing updates.

      Please contact Toshiba customer support at 800-457-7777 for further troubleshooting assistance if the responsiveness issue doesn't resolve itself when all Windows Updates are completed.

    Save your money to buy a better laptop

    To be fair, its not a bad laptop for very basic, extremely basic, computing needs. I was very happy that my computer stopped working (after 4 uses) because I was able to return it for a full refund. I bought this computer to do reports for work and school, no games, and it was painfully slow. I recommend to save the money you want to spend on this one, add some more to it, and get a real computer.

    It was priced right and the pre-order, pick up at customer service procedure worked great. Unfortunately, in just a few days, the hard drive had crashed. All of the work to get my old files moved onto this laptop was in vain. My nearest Best Buy location had no more of these units, so I had to pay more for a different brand and model.

    I am very disappointed in this laptop. It won't let me install my printer, upload pictures onto my computer, or even go on the internet. The computer itself is extremely slow and the mouse pad freezes constantly. I've never had any of these problems with any previous computers I've had in the past right after purchase and I will definitely not be buying a Toshiba ever again.

    got 2 of these laptops, the touchpad on one of the laptop stopped functioning within 5 days of purchase. Tried to install/uninstall the driver few times still didnt solve the problem. Ended up returning both laptops as I just didnt want to be stuck trying to deal with Toshiba to get this fixed under warranty.

    I bought this laptop C55-B5300 for my 13 yr old son's christmas gift and after recently reading BAD reviews decidd to turn it on which i had not done since i bought it a week ago......THANK GOD I DID because THE SCREEN WOULD NOT EVEN GO ON.......I tried several times and the screen remained BLACK!

    Horrible and cheap. First day, the screen froze. It kept freezing the next few days, then it wouldn't shut off. I had to do a "hard shut off" by holding the power button down, just for it to turn off. It is cheap, guess you get what you pay for. Returned if after a week. I'll still with Mac.

    The computer came broken, it would connect to wifi but when trying to go to a website it would say that there was no wifi connection. I payed for a year of insurance and I'm losing at least a month and a half to geeksquad fixing it.

    This seemed to be a good price for this item but I never took it out of the box and returned. The issue was with customer service. They were slow to respond to a question and as a result was past the price match period. I just returned it a purchased somewhere else.

    I was so excited to get my new laptop! When I tried to boot it up for the first time it never got past the Toshiba screen. I spent 30 minutes on the phone with tech support. It's either a bad motherboard or cmos... whatever that means.

    I purchased this laptop as a replacement for an old Toshiba, that was a mistake. I had this laptop for about 2 weeks and it constantly lost wifi signal and was generally slow. I bought this for general purposes and it could not fill the bill.

    Computing circa 1990

    I bought this to surf the web. Pages load circa 1989 AOL dial up speed. Horrible tinny sounding speakers. Videos chop up and break up like AOL 1991. Horrible. I bought Office through work and it takes so much time to even launch word. Bad.

    This product is very difficult to use. Logic is absent from the whole layout. For someone coming from a desktop XP this is nearly impossible to use! The CD door to allow insertion of a disc for backup is impossible to open!

    I hated this computer. Without a touchscreen, it was clumsy in Win 8, but mostly it was just slow, slow slow. It was incredibly cheap, but in the end not a bargain. I returned it.

    After four weeks, I got system warning messages on my C55-B. Had to pay $30 to ship back to Toshiba. Why am I charged for Toshiba's quality control problems? I was a fan of Toshiba until now.

    Kept freezing up and extremely slow. Page would just close while on different pages. Worst computer ever owned. Not worth the money at all. I was told that is due to processor that it has.

    Don't buy this. Cheap, slow, and they ever advertised the wrong processor. It's slower than my 10 year old Compaq. Also the office 365 free month was not accepted by Microsoft
