This is an amazing router that combines ease of use with some embedded prosumer/enterprise-level functionality. It's as easy as you want it to be or as complicated as you prefer.
Whether you're an avid user of all things "tech" or an entry-level novice user, this thing will have you covered. It's simple and stylish while packed with tons of functionality. Setting it up takes minutes after plugging it into your modem and connecting to power. You'll be instructed to connect using the mobile app. There is some web UI functionality, but it's currently limited to a network overview: IP, current speeds, clients, upgrade information, and SSID names with passwords. There is a section on the TP-Link website stating the web UI will be expanded over time, closer to that of other models, but nothing at the time of writing. A few taps on your screen to create an SSID, enter a WiFi password, and add an admin password for the router's UI, and you are ready to go. For the novice user, this may be where you would like to leave off. For the more advanced user, or the user who wishes to gain more control over their networked devices, you may wish to proceed to more advanced settings such as VLANs.
Features
Between this specific model and many of the newer TP-Link routers, the web UI is no different—except for the fact that you can't make many edits to the network as of now. By default, the router has several radio toggles for different networks, including the standard Guest network, the IoT (Internet of Things) network, the 6GHz network, and the newer MLO network. Each toggle adds several additional functions, such as enabling specific bands for that network (2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz). The guest network adds functions such as bandwidth metering and band selection (2, 5, or 6 GHz). In a separate toggle are your, now fairly standard, device isolation, QoS, block lists, and additional ACL filtering settings.
Do you want your guests to have access to every single device on your LAN network? Have an unthrottled network speed? Be able to see other guests devices on the same network? If the answer is no, these settings will control all of that for you without complicated third-party equipment or additional software. I personally wouldn't want my TP-Link WiFi smart plug to have access to my unthrottled 500 MBPS to 1000 MBPS service; it has no need for that much.
The IoT network doesn't offer as many additional functions aside from the radio bands in use and the security type.
The rear of the router features an external USB port. In the UI, this can be configured with an external storage device for use as network storage with password authentication. If you are a Mac user, this can also be configured as a Time Machine storage location. In either case, with password authentication to prevent someone else on your network from deleting its contents.
The parental controls tab settings give you control over other devices with customizable schedules and features. Want to have the internet turned off on your kids phones after 10 p.m. on a weekday? You can customize some features here, from time limits to the types of content available to them. Restricting adult material, hateful content, or gambling-related content, among others. However, while these functions are here, they are basic filtering tools. If you want advanced functionality, it isn't here. The predefined values for hate, gambling, adult material, and others seem to be created and maintained by TP-Link. Your only option is to enter blocked content manually into the text field. Entering mydomain.net will only block that domain. I don't see any type of support for a wildcard entry that blocks every website with a keyword in its domain. It does support keyword blocking, but it isn't clear to me if the match is based on the HTTP header or the full site. For the more advanced filtering, including some advanced firewalling, you need to subscribe to a monthly service in the Deco app. Considering you just gave TP-Link 1K, I think this functionality could have been baked into the firmware. On the other hand, if it did get baked into the software, there's a possibility it wouldn't be able to handle it. From the home screen of the web UI, because I don't see any type of system status within the app, there are 2 bars measuring RAM and CPU usage. With only 3 clients and 1 router in service, RAM load stays above 50% with very little to no custom configuration.
This thing is loaded with a ton of features, so many that this review will become a wall if listed all out. All the typical router functions from the DHCP server, DDNS, routing, port mapping, and access controls. Exclusive to this router are the Smart Home functions. Smart Home gives you what seems to be a seamless integration with all your other TP-Link smart devices and Phillips Hue into a single app.
The last standout features are the VPN tunneling features, both for connecting to a VPN service of your choice and routing specific devices, or connecting devices in different locations for sharing content or troubleshooting reasons. Both functions work perfectly and can help circumvent region blocks on your smart devices that typically can't use a VPN or require a Ph.D. in networking for you to get it working.
Performance
I'm surprised to know that I do not own any WiFi 7 devices. I really thought I did, at the very least one device, until this showed up. Connecting through WiFi, using a WiFi 6E-capable device, I am able to tap into my current full internet speed of 500 MBPS. This test must be conducted fairly close to the router, within the same room, as it begins to drop off the further you go away.
The range on this router is not as impressive as my now-aging old mesh device, and a non-mesh TP-Link router seems to have better coverage as a standalone device to the outside of the house. Being in a fairly central area of my home, I can reliably connect to it and have great to pretty good speeds all throughout my home. This is about a 20'–25' radius from the router across walls and possible interference from other devices. It should go without saying that these routers I've used to compare are all within the same living space, daisychained together with all the interference each creates for the other. That said, this is a mesh router that would be realistically paired with its other mesh devices throughout your home.
Overall, while I do find some minor inconveniences with this router, such as carrying paywalls, the pros outweigh any of my issues. This has overall good performance and a ton of features for you to dig into that rabbit hole if you're not very tech savvy, or go the easy route and plug-in; a few taps and you're ready to go. If you are a prosumer, then this is a great option for you as well.
This is worth 5-stars.

----- SUMMARY -----
Verdict:
The TP-Link Deco BE16000 Quad-Band Mesh Wi-Fi 7 System is a solid option for those who want a fast, reliable, and future-proof Wi-Fi network. It uses the latest Wi-Fi 7 standard, which provides faster speeds, lower latency, and higher capacity than previous standards. The coverage is also excellent, even in large homes, thanks to the AI-driven mesh technology. The mobile app gives you total control over your Wi-Fi network, and you can even use it to set up parental controls and security features. The only downsides I can think of are that some of the security and parental control features require a subscription, and the price of this system is a bit high. However, if you want the best Wi-Fi experience possible, I think it'd be a worthy investment.
Pros:
- Uses Wi-Fi 7, the newest and fastest standard available
- Provides faster Wi-Fi with lower latency and higher capacity
- Great coverage, even in large homes
- Uses AI to provide a fast and seamless connection
- Easy to set up and use
- Mobile app gives you total control over your Wi-Fi network
Cons:
- Some security and parental control features require a subscription
- High price
----- DETAILS -----
Setup & Design:
After I opened the box for the TP-Link Deco BE16000 Quad-Band Mesh Wi-Fi 7 System, I had it set up in no time. The TP-Link Deco app really impressed me. It walks you through the setup process, and it went perfectly for me. The app also has a bunch of other Wi-Fi management features. I'll get into those later.
The TP-Link Deco BE16000 routers are pretty big, standing at a little over nine inches tall and five inches wide. They’re bigger than the product photos make them seem, but they’re packed with tech and power. I like that they’re easy to place anywhere in my home and they have a modern, appealing design. Each router has four 2.5 Gbps Ethernet ports, one USB 2.0 port, a Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) button, and a reset button. They also each have their own power adapters that plug into the back, so they don’t have to be physically tethered to each other.
Performance & Features:
If you need a mesh Wi-Fi system that gives you the fastest possible speeds across a large area, the TP-Link Deco BE16000 is the way to go. It uses Wi-Fi 7, the newest and fastest standard available. I wanted to improve my home's Wi-Fi network and future-proof it, and the TP-Link Deco BE16000 is perfect for that.
There's a lot to know about Wi-Fi 7, but I'll keep this review focused on the TP-Link Deco BE16000 system. Basically, it provides faster Wi-Fi with lower latency and higher capacity. The lower latency means smoother online gaming and video streaming, while the higher capacity lets you connect more devices without slowing down your Wi-Fi.
I have a lot of devices in my house, and many of them are always connected to Wi-Fi. Before I switched to the TP-Link Deco BE16000 Quad-Band Mesh Wi-Fi 7 System, I noticed some slowdowns when most of my devices were in use. That's not a problem anymore. In fact, the network on each device is noticeably faster.
I also noticed a big improvement in coverage. I have a multi-story house, and I now have a strong, reliable connection no matter where I am. Even areas that my previous Wi-Fi system couldn't reach, like my front and back porch and my garage, now have great connections. This is important to me because I'm building out a Wi-Fi-connected security system.
The TP-Link Deco BE16000 uses AI to provide you with a fast and seamless connection as you move around your house. It works way better than a router and range extender setup. A range extender setup can provide whole-home Wi-Fi, but you might notice connection drops on portable devices like phones and tablets as they switch connections. The TP-Link Deco BE16000 system does this much more efficiently with its AI-driven mesh. It also learns about the network environment, like the placement of your devices and walls, to create the best mesh Wi-Fi solution for your home. After testing the TP-Link Deco BE16000 Quad-Band Mesh Wi-Fi 7 System with lots of devices and simultaneous network-intensive activities like streaming and online gaming, I can confidently say that it can handle anything you throw at it. The only thing that could slow it down is your internet service provider. You'll want a high-speed plan to get the most out of the TP-Link Deco BE16000.
Mobile App:
The TP-Link Deco app gives you total control over your Wi-Fi network from the palm of your hand. The app has a clean and easy-to-use interface that makes it simple to see your network status, connected devices, and notifications. You can also use the app to set up a guest network or a VPN, prioritize devices, and use parental controls to restrict online time and content.
Unfortunately, some security and parental control features require a subscription. This is a bummer, especially considering the high price of the TP-Link Deco BE16000 Quad-Band Mesh Wi-Fi 7 System. Despite this, the TP-Link Deco app is a great companion to the mesh router system and helps you get the most out of your home Wi-Fi network.

Fastest Wi-Fi 7 Mesh router for big houses

Ever since I’ve upgraded to 1 Gb fiber optic Internet, I’ve been looking for the next best router that could fully utilize all that bandwidth, not just for wired devices but especially for Wi-Fi as well. The ISP provided router never came close. An expensive Linksys 6E router from Linksys came close, but kept dropping connections and needed to be rebooted regularly. Then I got the TP-Link AX3000-PRO Wi-Fi 6 Router, a very affordable, full featured Wi-Fi 6 router and extremely stable for the price, but still not the fastest Wi-Fi speeds. Then I finally had the opportunity to test the latest TP-Link - Deco BE16000 Quad-Band Mesh Wi-Fi 7 System with Multi-Gig (3-Pack) router and the results are impressive.
This system is basically 3 identical Mesh routers packed with the latest future-proof technology that can meet your most demanding networking needs. Well packed, fairly heavy, a testimony to TP-Link’s solid build quality. They are quite big and round, about twice the circumference and height of a couple of soda cans - see pics. That’s perfectly fine with me as they each include 4x 2.5 Gb Ethernet ports and one USB 3 port that transforms this router into a powerful NAS just by adding a USB hard drive. Moreover each unit packs a serious punch with a Quad-core CPU and 6 high powered internal antennas that guarantee the multi-band 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz signals penetrate through walls and other obstacles.
The setup is as simple as they come, just plug it in, download, install and run the Deco App for Android or iOS. It will automatically detect your WAN connection type, prompt you to create your Wi-Fi SSID. I ended up using the same Wi-Fi name and passphrase as my old router so I wouldn’t have to reconfigure nearly 40 devices on my new network, just make sure to power off your old router before you cause Wi-Fi conflict.
The Deco App is very well developed, intuitive, feature rich and offers tons of information such as daily usage and security reports, etc. There are also additional advanced security and parental control features that you can subscribe to at reasonable monthly/yearly rates - see attached screenshots.
The initial setup of the first unit took about 10 minutes, followed by the firmware update that took less than a minute and can be set to auto update. I then proceeded to add the 2nd and 3rd nodes which were nearly fully automated. I ended up letting the units connect to each-other via WiFi, but I plan to also do some testing with them interconnected over wired Ethernet.
I ran most of the speed tests from multiple wired Windows 10 and 11 PC and a Samsung Galaxy S23 ultra Android phone that supports Wi-Fi 6e. The range coverage and signal strength is unbelievably good. With my gigabit fiber ISP, I max out at around 940 Mbps. Up until now, that was only achievable with the wired systems. With this TP-Link Deco Wi-Fi 7 Mesh system I could not believe my eyes when I got Wii-Fi downloads/uploads in the low 900 Mbps just as well, pretty much anywhere in the house and still very over 500 Mbps Wi-Fi speeds outside the house in the driveway and backyard.
In conclusion this is the best router and fastest Wi-Fi mesh system I’ve ever used and I would highly recommend it.

I have a 2300 sq ft 2 story home.
I did end up using all 3 nodes, but could get away with 2.
They should sell these in single packs for those that need 2 or more than 3.
Anyway, setup was easy once the deco app connected to the 1st node. I had to manually get my phone connected to the deco and turn off auto connect to my old network. My phone kept connecting to my old wifi as the deco didnt have internet yet.
The rest of the setup was easy. I did individually set each device on my network to use the mesh or not. If a device is not portable, turn mesh network off for that device. I also set connection preference as some iot devices wouldnt connect to the closest deco node.
I subscribe to 1 GB internet. Speed tests from wifi devices show 1gb+ for the 1st time in my home. I routinely get 700+ speeds from my garage.
This mesh router should last at least 5 years as it is 2.5 GB capable for future internet speed increases.

Works great, absolute recommendation for anyone with a 1gbps or 2.4 gbps internet esepcially on fiber.
My speeds went up 300% compared to my 4 year old Orbi units.
While WiFi 7 hasnt been fully ratified, The BE16000 already has AFC and MLO tech built in for future proofing. You should start to see WiFi7 devices starting 2024 as well.
These are larger and heavier than expected but the presence of 4x 2.5gbps ports is totally worth it.
Even on wireless backhaul I was seeing ~800mbps on a 1000mbps internet connection at the fartest node in my house.

For those you who want to be the first to dive into Wi-Fi 7 get ready get set....... Go.....
Well maybe not so fast there because Wi-Fi 7 is not available to too many products yet. But they are coming.
We will get to that in a bit.
Let set this puppy up.
So setup was super duper easy...
Download the app for me it was android. Follow the step by step prompts and I was in with my base unit. From there you have 1 of 2 options. Either go wireless or do what is called a back hauled method. Back hauled is basically connecting your satellite units with a cat 5e or higher cable back to the main base unit either directly or with a switch.
I went with back haul because I have a lot of walls and different dead spots in my house and my ADU.
Within about 45 mins and after 2 firmware updates I was up and running. As of right now there are no commercially available mounts. I hope and wish in the future they have ceiling mounts because I want to replace my ceiling mounted routers with these in the near future when Wifi 7 is fully available.
User interface via app is nice. There are A LOT of controls and customizable options such as MLO Multi Link Optimization and smart home features and a ton of other stuff.
So going back to wifi 7. Currently as of 12/07/2023 there are almost no phones or computers that have Wi-Fi 7. They say that in mid 2024 there will be products with this protocol. You can find a WiFi adapter but will need to retrofit your current PC to change your wireless adapter. But that you cannot still fully realize the full benefits of wifi 7 yet.
With that in mind and the fact that my phone and PCS are throttled limited to Wifi 6. My download is roughly maxed out at about 650 MBS and Uploads are about 150 MBS. I am running GB service so hardwired puts me at about +/- 900 MBS both up and down.
Still pretty wicked fast.
Zero latency and full throttle allows you to connect a lot of devices and max throughput. So if you are a serious gamer and have a huge dwelling unit with multiple wireless devices that are connected along with smart devices. This is the device to get.
For that I would highly recommend this product.

The BE16000 system was easy to setup and everything has been working smoothly. I had a TP Link Archer AX1000 router before. The speeds were good but slowed down quite a bit the farther away you were. With the new deco mesh, the speeds are fantastic everywhere in the house. You dont notice your devices switching between satelites. I have all my devices connected wirelessy besides the main device connected to my modem. Plugging an ethernet into one of the secondary devices gives me max speeds possible with my ISP. This is great for me due to me not being able to run ethernets to certain areas. Overall, so far, this setup has been great and it is easy to add on more deco devices to your setup.

I just for this last weekend 3 pack16000 and i have a ton of wired and wireless devices. I was hoping that i woukdnt have to redo everything but it seems i do. Ive bene having issues with the IoT devices on the iot network. Seesm that many of my devices just wont connect and others will only if i take off the 5ghz channel then they may woek. I have the same issue with my iphone pro max 14. My devices fo on and off constantly. I havent had a chance yet to speak with tech-support, but I have to say it’s it’s a little concerning with my expertise that it’s not working the way it should be. That being said there are many great things about it. I can definitely see that some of the things do seem to work better. Hopefully I’m not gonna have to use the guest network because why would you even have an IOT network if you can’t use it, but I do love how they do have the backhaul to connect wirelessly, even though I have my stuff all configured hardwired to have the mesh network be the same, but I’m also having issues because I do have multiple switches and so now I have to figure out why it wants me to set it up differently and I have a bunch of different theories on how to do that but again may need to talk with them first, but I’ve got a couple thoughts in my head once I have some time to work on it to make it so it’s it works better. So currently I will get back with you guys give an update. I’m really hoping that this is gonna be better than the Orbi mesh network that I had that was maybe two years old. It couldn’t handle all the devices. I had wirelessly and I didn’t like the speeds I do have gig speeds And with the Orbi I couldn’t get past about 400 up or down first time. I ran a speed test. I think I got around the 450 or so maybe 500 and then the upload was like six or so I still would expect better especially since I’m an AT&T tech And our fiber modem can get around 800 so I would expect a lot more. Obviously my phone doesn’t work with the 6 GHz channel but still with the five I should get faster than that. Another thing I really hate is how they don’t really have an option to use your computer like most other networks pretty much the app gives you way more than the website and still doesn’t give you enough. It seems as if they want you not to mess with it so it’s not really IT friendly I would say.

This is a great set with very strong coverage and power.
However, it just does okay in my house. You can never get the claimed coverage area. I can’t reach 5000 sqft fully with this set unfortunately.
In addition, it is a bit slower to switch from node to node seamlessly with iphone or other apple products I noticed (comparing to orbi)

The Deco was very easy to setup. Once I established a new SSID and passphrase, connecting devices was seamless. The Deco automatically detects the best band to establish connection for your devices but you have the option through the app of modifying that as well as creating a band dedicated to specific devices you’d like to prioritize for optimal performance. Advanced options through the app let you establish additional QOS settings. The app also allows for editing device descriptions to easily identify devices that may require bandwidth troubleshooting in the future. All in all, I am very satisfied with this product.
