I recently switched from a Linksys mesh network to this TP Link BE5000 mesh system and have no regrets at all. I just have a handful of WiFi 7 devices but the performance is great when compared to my previous network. This mesh system is basically an entry to WiFi 7 because it is Dual Band and not Tri or Quad. Now Wifi 7 CAN and does enhance the 2.4 and 5Ghz bands but is missing the 6Ghz band to fully take advantage of its speed. In the box is a pretty straight forward presentation of 3 modules with their power bricks, 1 single ethernet cable and a simple set up guide. Basically scan a QR code or download the Deco App. Setup was super easy and soooo much smoother than my previous system. Once I got the primary node up and running you just basically put the other 2 where you want in range and plug them in. They paired with no additional steps or anything. I love it. Range is great and reaches a few houses down from me before it disconnects. I have no problems getting my 1900 sq ft house 100% covered including the garage and surrounding yards. All my outdoor cameras show full signal strength and my garage door opener has no issues as well unlike my last mesh system. I am using 14 cams from different brands, multiple PCs and consoles and a ton of smaller things like plugs, locks etc and the BE5000 doesn't even break a sweat. I am using G Fiber Gigabit and the speeds are as advertised when hardwired. Setting up a home network was super simple in app and there is also the option of creating a Guest Wifi account. I have all my devices using the primary WiFi and my roommate is using the Guest. I like how you can also use 1 band or both by a simple button click. Need only 2.4? Done. Want both? Easy. I personally like this TP Link system a lot for my personal needs, but if you are really wanting to take advantage of WiFi 7 speeds, I recommend looking for a system with the 6ghz band.

This Deco BE5000 replaced my very stable, high quality pro mesh wifi6e ax system and has beaten it to almost every feature. Design The design of the router and nodes do not disappoint. They are compact, not intrusive, and looks like a work of art. It is finished in matte white and has a little led indicator that helps determine the status of each piece. It looks good that I do not have to worry where I place it because it looks pretty good just being placed on the piano, by the fireplace and on a work desk. Setup Setup is almost plug and play. The Deco app is pretty easy for me to understand, as someone who is more tech-oriented. It does require some tweaks to make the most out of the router which I will mention later. I don’t think my mother-in-law will be able to set it up, unlike some more consumer-focused plug-and-play routers, but this is easy enough for a mesh system that has ample customizations. Once I had internet on the main router, the two other nodes are pretty easy to set up. I would say, all three are running in around 15 minutes, maybe less. Performance Range is great and speed is FAST. My previous ax router had to be placed at a corner of the fireplace so the concrete does not block the wifi. Even though this router looks pretty, I tucked it behind the clock on the fireplace (to lessen fireplace decor) without signal interference. In my previous setup with the router showing, it hits my other node to the office, 15 feet away with a door, at 120mbps average. And I had to keep the office door open to give my office devices some boost every so often. With this BE5000 router, I am hitting 440mbps on a closed door! Now this gave me an opportunity to rearrange my nodes, because I am getting more coverage at faster speeds. Now, the advantage of this for me, is the ability to have WifI7 and luckily, I have two clients (PC and phone) that has wifi 7. This system has MLO, which I learned, uses all bands at the same time for the clients and works more closely hand-in-hand with each other to give the best signal at the best location at the best time. So far, it works for my phone well as I can move room to room without hiccups. I cannot say the same with my PC because it is mostly in the office, but I used to have signal drops in my previous Wifi 6e ax system with the latest intel wifi driver that I had to roll my wifi driver back to a previous build. Now, I have the latest drivers up and it is more compatible with this router. Deco app and customizations There are some pros and cons to the app. PROS: I can easily detect active and online devices, including added ones. I can also easily set up wifi settings like guest networks and iot networks—(however this is also a con). There are also pretty good added features which are network scanning and security (I am sure other routers probably have this too, but this sort of gives me more peace-of-mind), easy wifi-access controls, and device controls including camera security. One of the things I also love is the ability to install VPN on the router itself, making everyone in the network covered with VPN without having to install or enable VPNs for all of my devices. This also has the MLO network which is good for wifi7 clients. CONS: Besides the fact that the app is not for grandma, there are some features that are broken, which I think can be fixed by a software / firmware update. IoT network. This one supposedly creates a network perfect for all my IoT devices. I have at least 35 devices including lights, plugs, cameras, sensors, door locks, cast devices, etc. When I set up my IoT, it was VERY slow. It was almost unusable. My connections were breaking. So as I mentioned in my PROS that it is easy to setup wifi networks, I created the main network, not the MLO only for 2.4Ghz, with the hopes that this will be my dedicated IoT network. Same problem. So I think, when one network is running only on one of the two bands, 2.4Ghz specifically, it does not function properly. So I just did not use the IoT network, and placed all of them on the main dual band network (enabling dual band vs only 2.4) and anyone fast can log onto the MLO network. Not a deal-breaker for me as there is a workaround. Another con is the ability to do parental controls. I tried to do parental controls on the free version, which is, I created profiles for the kids, easily put their devices in, laptop and tablet and see activity. However, when they hit a snag, like perhaps open a site that is not appropriate for their age (one of them is 11 years old), it locks them out of the internet and the app simply tells me they ran out of time, even if they are in schedule (not in time lockouts). The only way to get them back in the internet is by deleting their profiles, which makes it almost useless. Now, I tried using the paid version (there is a 30-day trial) and it works without having to lock them out of the internet. The app works and simply blocks any content they hit that they were not supposed to visit. Again, not a deal-breaker as it is an add-on and something that firmware can fix. I know there are some quirks but so far, the main function of the system, it being super duper fast and super duper lag free and super duper low ping / latency is the main draw. Maybe one last quirk is hoping it had a hole under the node so I can install it like a smoke alarm to the wall, but that’s minor. All the other quirks are simple easy fixes that TP-link can do in a snap. Regardless of the challenges, it is still 98% great and I definitely recommend this.

There is not too much you can say about a Wifi mesh system unless it does not work or is hard to setup. TP Link Deco BE5000 has done a near perfect job at tackling setting up multiple access points as easily as downloading the new app, aim your camera at the QR code and just say yes to most of the default settings. It did take about 15 minutes to get this up and running and replace my older TP Link wifi 6 router. I did have to move my gaming consoles and PC to a network switch because the lack of LAN Ports. There are 2 LAN ports per unit, but you lose one to the modem in 1 location. Pros: Get all the speed you pay for at much further distances Small cereal bowl footprint with better wife approval to appearance Super simple app setup Notifications when new devices log on, likely only see notifications on day 1 LED status light can be disabled or scheduled Nice app for advanced settings and info if you have the know how Wifi 6 pricing, but its 7! Cons: Only a couple Lan ports on each unit. Maybe buy a "Network Switch" for gaming, but not totally needed as wifi 7 is very quick Have to use new Deco app, even though I have Tether from TP Link Setup/Tips: For ease of integration with so many wifi vampires around the house like security cams, smart tv's and computers. I renamed the new deco mesh network the same as the old so everything would reconnect on its own once fully setup. Example: if the old router name is "myHouse" and the password is "FrontDoor99". Use the same when asked by the new router during setup. Sooo much easier if you have over a dozen devices connected. If you go with a new name and password, you will have to setup all those devices one by one. Once setup is done by following the easy to follow Deco app. Unless you know what you are doing, don't tweak anything. The system is probably good to go and you should start getting notifications as your devices log in if you kept the same credentials. You may want to turn off the green LED on each device, or schedule it off at night. Go To: MORE tab in lower right of Deco app. Then LED Control near bottom of list. Disable or schedule is up to you. Other than that, just enjoy the increased range and potentially faster connection if you are lucky enough to have gig speeds. I still live rural, so my best speeds are around 300-400Mbps which is more than enough for most. Just know this TP Link Mesh setup won't give you faster internet than you subscribe to, but will likely give you far more coverage range around your house and property. My out buildings now have 3 to 4 out 5 bars for wifi signal. That is great improvement and solves a few camera placement concerns I had. Now to see how it behaves over time. The brand has been good to me so far.

This is my third model of TP-Link I've had in the last three or four years and while I liked the previous generations, this one beat all the others not just in speed which is fantastic and takes advantage of all the new Wi-Fi 7 standard, but also in the design. My previous ones were not round like these which I must admit that they look a lot better and doesn't scream that it is another usual router/modem. I have fiber internet and can get up to 940 download/upload speed at certain times of the day using a computer directly wired to the router but this is the first time that I get the same performance on my iPad connected to Wi-Fi. I could hardly believe it although that it is what I was hoping for considering that this is a Wi-Fi 7 mesh router. Because each comes with two 2.5 Gbps ethernet ports, it can easily support up to that speed to the internet as long as you have the latest Wi-Fi 7 or at least Wi-Fi 6e. My tests were on an iPad 13 Pro (latest generation) which achieved a maximum speed of 940mbps download and 930mbps upload to the internet during my initial test. That was the peak speed but most common has been 931/931 as you can see in the pictures that I've attached here, but that is due to congestion since I have about 40 devices connected at any point in time (I know, too many). Still, this is simply amazing. Jitter rarely goes above 1 ms and ping between 5 ms and 10 ms and I'm about 200 miles away from where my fiber is coming from. I'm sure that if I had a 2 Gbps fiber, I would be getting close to that. Internally, I get speeds of over 1.7 Gbps. Again, this is incredible. With the 3 distributed around the house, it covers over 4,000 sq ft, including our two gazebos and the speed is about the same. Games performed very well, including on Quest 3 with little to no lag. No issues whatsoever with video streaming, including uploading to YouTube in real-time. As for installation, it couldn't have been easier. I loved the fact that it connected to my previous Deco and transferred the configuration and made the first one the main router and offered to keep the existing ones as extenders. Everything was so easy once I had the app installed. By default, it comes with a few firewall security features such as device isolation, but if you want a more comprehensive security, you need to subscribe to a yearly package that starts at $2.99 (not bad) to $5.99 a month which will give you intrusion detection and prevention. I don't like subscriptions, but in this case I think it's worth it for the peace of mind and it is more important than third-party anti-virus in my opinion.

This TP-Link Whole Home Mesh Wi-Fi 7 system was thoughtfully packaged, making the unboxing process straightforward. Setting it up was simple. First, connect one of the mesh module and download the Decco app. The app will automatically initiate a firmware update after completing the setup. The remaining two modules connect automatically when powered on. You only need to find a good spot around the home for optimal coverage. Once plugged in, they will link to the first module automatically. Having previously used a Google Wi-Fi mesh system, I found the Deco system much easier to set up. One standout feature is the Multi-Link Operation (MLO) Network, which allows Wi-Fi 7 devices to connect across multiple bands simultaneously, enhancing speed and reducing latency. While I currently don’t own any Wi-Fi 7 devices, it’s reassuring to know the system is future-proof. The system’s coverage is impressive, rated for up to 6,600 square feet. I have a 1,900 square foot home and it performs very well. This Home Mesh has plenty of features like guest network option and customizable parental controls which is very convenient, especially in a house with young children. There’s also the option to purchase a Deco VPN service directly through the app. So far, the system has handled over 25 connected devices without any issues. I really like the dual-band technology feature. It efficiently manages traffic by distributing devices across different bands. The app also allows you to adjust the LED brightness on the modules. While my Internet Service Provider offers 1 Gbps speeds, my actual wireless performance with the Deco system is around 548 Mbps and some others with around 410 Mbps. The speed is sufficient for my needs and I can stream at 4K with no lags issues. Overall this Whole Home mesh system performs very well. It is extremely easy to setup, one of the easiest I have used. Great quality build with a modern form factor that can easily blend with any home decor. It is affordable and reliable, packed with advanced features. In the box, you get three individual modules, three power plugs, one ethernet cable, and a quickstart guide.

    Fast setup and internet speeds

This is our second TP-Link Deco mesh WiFi 7 system that we’ve tried and while this dual-band network only supports clients connecting via 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, it can achieve IEEE 802.11be speeds thanks to features like 4K-QAM, Multi-RU, and MLO that enhance and streamline connections for greater efficiency over previous standards. The BE5000 system includes three BE25 routers and is rated to cover 6600 sq ft and supports over 150 connected devices. The system is expandable by adding more Deco compatible access points, and while there’s no upper limit to the number of nodes you can use, TP-Link recommends no more than 6 per network; there’s also a priority order you should follow, if mixing models, to get the best network performance (e.g. the fastest node should be the main one). This system supports IPv6, 4324 Mbps on 5 GHz, and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz (up to 5Mbps combined). You’ll also have access to the 160 MHz channel width on the 5 GHz band by default, though you can change this to 240 MHz or 80 MHz as well, as long as your client devices support the higher DFS frequency channel and no nearby radar systems could cause interference. Setting up the main router takes only a few minutes, and it doesn’t matter which unit you use, however, you do need to download the Deco mobile app and register an account with TP-Link. The other two satellites are plug-and-play and connect to the main router automatically after plugging them in. Each node has a WPS button and two auto-sensing 2.5Gbps WAN/LAN RJ45 Ethernet ports to connect with the modem and client devices. The routers have no on/off button and power on immediately when plugged in. There is a status LED at the lower front of the base that indicates if the unit is in setup mode (blue), has internet (green), or no connection (red). The status light can be disabled in the app under “LED control” or set on a schedule to turn off during specific times (daily), for example, at night if the router is in a bedroom. For our three-story home, we used one node centrally located on each floor. With this setup, we don’t have any dead spots in the home. While our internet speed remained about the same around 500 Mbps download and 22 Mbps upload within the home, we saw more consistent signal strength while roaming about and a longer retention of signal and faster speeds 50 ft outside the home in the backyard, with an average improvement of about 40% (56 Mbps vs 40 Mbps downloads). These routers are able to utilize both wireless bands or optionally can be hardwired for backhaul and have 4 internal antennas each so can handle 4 separate streams simultaneously. Enabling MLO for multi-link operation creates a separate network that allows your devices to connect to both bands simultaneously for faster speeds and less latency. This works well for our home since we have well over 50 internet connected devices from smart outlets, to lights switches, video streaming devices, cell phones, and computers. There’s also an option to create a separate WiFi network dedicated to IoT devices as well as a dedicated guest network. However, there doesn’t appear to be an option to split the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands into separate and distinct SSIDs. Other advanced network and security options available in the Deco app are encrypted VPN, client/MAC address blocking, QoS prioritization, new device alerts, parental controls, device isolation, camera security, and network managers. Parental controls help you keep your kids safe while using the internet by setting time allowances, monitoring usage, and blocking websites or content type. Each child can have their own profile and devices assigned for personalized safety. Overall, if you don't have devices that need or support the extra bandwidth of 6GHz, the Deco BE5000 dual-band mesh WiFi 7 system is an adaptive networking solution for fast, stable, and consistent roaming signal strength throughout your home. It’s easy to set up, covers plenty of square footage, and has a number of security features built-in to safeguard your internet connected devices.

The TP-Link - BE5000 Dual-Band Multi-Gig Whole Home Mesh Wi-Fi 7 System 3-Pack (Deco BE5000) is a Mesh Wi-Fi router system that is designed to cover the whole home (up to 6.600 sq-ft) with its Wi-Fi 7 network capabilities. This 3-unit mesh system has the following features and specifications: - 5 Gbps Dual-Band Wi-Fi – 4324 Mbps (5 GHz) + 688 Mbps (2.4 GHz). (actual speeds will vary) - 2.5 Gbps Wired Connections – 2× 2.5 Gbps ports ensure max flexibility and boosted throughput (with compatible plans and equipment) - Wireless and Wired Combined Backhaul – Connects a wireless and wired backhaul with each unit simultaneously to improve overall throughput and reduce latency. - Multi-Link Operation (MLO) – Simultaneously send and receive data across different bands and channels to increase throughput, reduce latency, and improve reliability. Which of these capabilities get used varies by client and the features the specific can support. - Seamless AI-Driven Roaming – Forms a unified network with built-in AI-Roaming creating the ideal Wi-Fi solution for your home. - TP-Link HomeShield – Provides comprehensive network protection, robust parental controls, and real-time IoT security. Advanced HomeShield features are a subscription-based service. - Universal Compatibility – Backward compatible with all Wi-Fi generations and works with any internet service provider (ISP) and modem. Additional key features include 2.5G Wired Connectivity with each of the two ports being able to support operation as either a WAN or a LAN port (only one mode at a time); the ability to connect over 150 devices (which can support using these devices for an IoT network), Multi-link operation, Wireless and wired combined backhaul capabilities, and 4K-QAM. The backhaul capabilities allow each connection – 5 GHz, and 2.4 GHz wireless, and the Ethernet wired connections to be aggregated to “greatly improve overall throughput and reduces latency, delivering broader coverage with more stable and reliable connections”. The Homeshield services are built-in to the unit and are there to allow one to provide protection for your devices (including both at home and one the go). This includes Network Protection, Parental Controls, and through KidShield, “parents can monitor their kids’ locations. This way, kids stay digitally protected even on the go.” It is worth repeating that some of these features are considered advanced and require a subscription. Setup is accomplished in a few easy steps. First one downloads the Deco app to their mobile device and establishes an account. Next, one connects the first unit to a modem and power on the unit, next follow the in-app instructions to connect the first unit. This first unit is the one that connects to your modem’s LAN port or to an existing network via a wired connection. A quick scan of the unit’s QR code is all the app needs to begin the setup process. Once this unit is set up the remaining units follow suit and are scanned and then added to the Network as they will use the first unit configured as the main unit in the mesh. Once the network is established the units work seamlessly to allow you to roam throughout your home using the single network name. My home network is a 1GB Fiber based network and running speed test through the Deco app resulted in typical speeds for my network – 544 Mbps down and 786 Mbps up. The only downside I was seeing to these devices is that each on has a light on it to signify its connection mode – I recently found and app setting that allows this light to be adjusted between “Always on (default)”, “Always off”, and “Scheduled off” (with the default schedule being 10 pm to 7 am the next day). This is a great feature for when the units are in areas where an “always on” light might interfere with one’s ability to sleep. Also being able to turn it off should reduce the device’s power consumption to some degree, resulting in cost savings. Overall, I have found the addition of this Mesh Wi-Fi system to be a good addition to my network and the use of it has helped improve the performance of at least one of my streaming devices which has been suffering from lagging for the last few months. The Deco family of products are all compatible with one another and this affords one to add additional units to your mesh network including Outdoor units, Power over Ethernet units, and Powerline units for building with thick walls.

I needed a new Wi-Fi System/router because the extender on the router I’ve been using quit working just after the warranty expired. I dreaded switching because it took me a couple of days to get that system connected and working. My experience with the TP-Link Deco mesh system was entirely different. The app was clear and walked me through each step. I was back up and running in less than 30 minutes. Installing the 2 satellite devices was as easy as plugging them into an outlet. They connected to Wi-Fi without any intervention. Reconnecting all the devices that use Wi-Fi didn’t go as smoothly. Because of the network change, all the devices that use Wi-Fi had to be updated to the new network and password. The Wi-Fi network password should be strong, but a complicated one (like the suggested Google password) might not be the best choice if the password has to be entered into printers with tiny screens and TVs using remote controls. The Brother printer was easy. I just tapped the Wi-Fi icon on the printer and changed the password. The HP printer took some time. I had to remove it in Windows Settings, add it (took several tries) and then finish it up with the HP Smart app. The TVs and some app-controlled devices were easy. I had the most problem with the Tapo security cameras - which are a TP-Link product. The Tapo app wouldn’t open after installing the TP-Link Wi-Fi system. Because they are the same company, the Tapo app prompted me to link it to the TP-Link account I just created. When I did, all 3 cameras were off line. The only way to get them back on line was to physically remove them, put a pin in the reset hole, remove them from the app and add them as a new device. Connecting one, didn’t connect the rest. There was no way to enter the new Wi-Fi password in the Tapo app. The annoying part was that one of the cameras is 15 feet off the ground and requires a ladder to get to it. You would think a company that can connect their satellite Deco devices without any manipulation would be able to connect their security cameras to a new Wi-Fi network easily. The Deco system is great. It’s more secure than what I have and comes with 2 extenders. The box says it covers up to 6,600 feet. My house isn’t that big, but I do need coverage for the outside security cameras. The Deco system deserves 5 stars. I was tempted to give them 4 stars because of the issue with the Tapo security cameras, but that wouldn’t be fair. But I do think TP-Link needs to update the Tapo app so that like my other app controlled devices, the cameras can be updated to the new system and password in the app and not require the devices to be removed (physically and in the app) and then reinstalled.

The TP-Link Deco BE500 system is a 3 pack that allows many options for providing Wi-Fi throughout the house. Each unit is the same and comes with a power plug for each. The plugs are quite large but are designed in such a way that it doesn’t take up more than one space in a powerstrip. There is only one ethernet cable included so you will have to provide more if you want to wire more than one unit. I like that you have the option to use each additional unit wirelessly or wired. Each unit has two 2.5 Gbps ports so you can wire them all together if desired. It has Wi-Fi 7 so I will be able to future proof for many iterations of tech improvements with this system. With this system, I was able to finally get wi-fi into a part of the house that was not wired and had a hard time reaching my existing router. Setting up routers and networking systems is only something I do once every few years, so I liked that the app is very thorough in providing guidance in setting this mesh system up. I was expecting to have to do a lot of research as previous older wifi routers required. For this system, all you have to do is unbox all the components, download the app and then just follow it step by step. It even tells you when to turn on and off your modem and how to plug in the cables. The downside of this mesh system is that you must use the app and create a log-in. If you are hesitant to sign-up and rely on their app, then this will not be the system for you. I find the app to be easy to use and straightforward. I like that there is a useful graphic that shows you every Deco unit that is connected and how it is connected (wired or wireless) with the ability to label each one. All the major items I want to know are right on the front menu of the app. A speed test button is right on top and all devices using wifi on the system are in the middle (online clients). I was dreading having to add another app to my phone and sign up for another account but surprisingly find it really useful. There are lights on each unit to indicate its status but you can also turn off the lights. I do wish the units weren’t so large because you do have to find a place to keep it and plug it in throughout the house. They are low units but wide in width. I expected to be able to mount it but there is no way to do so. I wanted to mount it in a hallway that has no table or furniture to store the units but there wasn’t a way to do so. Each unit seemed to stay pretty cool and only slightly warm to touch with use. Overall, this is a mesh system that is easy to set-up and use with the potential to be used for a long time in the future.

My previous mesh system was the TP-Link deco m9 so I'm quite familiar with the brand and the app. But the Deco m9 is on the older wifi-5 and to be perfectly honest, I didn't really see any problems with it. I don't have a very large home, average is what I think, but the m9 I had, had 3 units and it seemed to cover my home pretty well. I have well over 25 things using our m9 at most times and nothing seemed to lag and coverage was good. So I wasn't really sure that I needed the latest and greatest. Well..... I was wrong. This really did improve every device in the house. I almost instantly knew when I opened a streaming device on my phone and started to watch a channel. It was almost instantaneous in playing the video. I switched to different videos and it loaded so quickly, I was stunned. My next test was to go outside towards my neighbors house to see what type of coverage I would be getting and to see if there would be any lag. My next door neighbor ran without a problem but I did notice a slight slowdown across the street, but still very very usable. I was super happy. Since I already had an older Deco, I just had to add the BE5000 to the app which was very simple. It is also Alexa and Google enable. I didn't know what good that would do until I looked into it. The ability to shut off the guest network or limit the time certain phones or tablet can be on the internet is awesome. This will help anyone with kids control their screen time. You also have so much information about the current status of things logged on through the app, things you probably forgot about LOL. So far, the BE5000 has been absolutely amazing. Fast and stable internet throughout the house.

A Great Affordable Entry to WIFI 7

The TP-Link BE5000 WIFI 7 System is a mesh router that I have had my eye on with its affordable entry price for WIFI which brings high-speeds, and seamless wireless connectivity to your home. This mesh system supports WIFI 7, offering faster speeds, lower latency, and better communications between devices, making it an attractive option for large households, smart homes, and gamers. Setup for the BE5000 is a very easy process in that all you need is a modem (not provided) that is compatible with your service provider or switching your router/modem combo provided by your Internet provider into Bridge mode ( A call to your service provider can walk you through the process of putting it into Bridge mode). Once you have one of the nodes plugged into your modem, just download and open the Deco app and follow the step-by-step directions, in selecting your BE5000 router and scanning the QR Code on the bottom of it and the installation process will begin. After a couple of minutes you should be good to go with naming your network and adding a password. Once that is done you can now your other to mesh hubs, at the home page click the “+” in the corner and follow the gilded steps I recommend doing this one at a time in the desired locations in your home. And once complete you have your mesh WIFI ready to go. The design of the BE5000 is very subtle and doesn't take up too much space where even your significant other should not have an issue with the design knowing she will be getting better WIFI throughout the home. When it comes to having a stable WIFI connection the standout feature of the BE5000 is its use of Multi-Link Operation (MLO). MLO is a new technology with WIFI 7 that allows devices to connect to multiple bands simultaneously, With MLO, devices can establish connections over both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. This improves speed, reduces latency, and creates a more stable and resilient connection. For example, if one band experiences congestion or interference, MLO will seamlessly switch to another band , ensuring uninterrupted performance. I also loved this new feature because I have a lot of smart devices throughout my home and they can only be connected to the 2.4 bandwidth and the MLO network allows me to connect those smart devices while still being able to get those 5g speeds on my cell phone. This feature is particularly beneficial for bandwidth-intensive activities like streaming in 4K, online gaming, or video meetings and you can have up to 150 devices connected to the network. The only real downside I found in this router is the lack of a 6g band for those super fast speeds, but there are only a handful devices that have utilized 6 or 7G bands. With a range of up to 6,600 square feet, this 3-pack system is ideal for large homes. It helps eliminate dead zones and ensures strong signals even in bigger homes with multiple floors. The system supports multi-gig speeds thanks to its robust hardware and advanced wireless protocols. Gamers and tech enthusiasts will appreciate the low latency and consistent performance across multiple devices, even during heavy use. Keep in mind that the further away you get from the main Hub node speeds will decrease, but with the BE5000 the slowest speeds I got from the basement and the 3rd floor was around 150Mbps, which is acceptable for pretty much everything. Pros Wide Coverage: Covers up to 6,600 square feet, ensuring reliable connectivity in bigger homes. Multi-Link Operation (MLO): Provides stable, high-speed connections by utilizing multiple bands simultaneously. Easy Setup and Management: The TP-Link Deco app makes installation simple and provides network insights and control. Multi-Gig Wired and Wireless Speeds: Great for gamers, streamers, and large households with high data demands. Seamless Mesh Technology: Ensures no drop-offs as you move throughout the house. Cons No 6GHz Band: While WIFI 7 can utilize 6GHz for even higher speeds and reduced interference, this system lacks support for the 6GHz band, which may limit its future-proofing compared to some competitors. Overall, The TP-Link BE5000 delivers great performance, coverage, and modern features tailored for the demands of smart homes and heavy network usage. While the absence of a 6GHz band is a notable absence, the system's range, Multi-Link Operation, and overall capability make it a strong choice for anyone seeking a reliable and high-performance mesh network at a reasonable entry price for WIFI 7.

The price for a three-node Wi-Fi 7 Mesh network is great, and there is a lot to like, until I realized that these although are Wi-Fi 7, do not have the 6 Ghz radio. W-Fi 7 allows for three simultaneous bands: The slower, more crowded and longer range 2.4 Ghz, the shorter range and faster 5 Ghz and the even faster 6 Ghz at much shorter distances. This router set lacks the 6 Ghz radio. However Wi-Fi 7 makes better use of the available frequencies by packing data frames more close together. So this explains the relatively low price for a three-set. This is my first TP-Link router after using a different brand for many years, and I like what I see. The configuration is done via the Deco app for phones or tablets. For a consumer router it has everything it needs. One can configure different Wi-Fi security settings, internal network address and reservations, port forwarding, IPv6, DNS and everything I'd expect. It can also be set to act as a VPN client (For whole-house VPN) or VPN server, to use the home IP address while traveling. Didn't get to use this but it's there and can come in handy. Each node has two Ethernet ports, and both are 2.5 Gigabits, so it can support Internet connections higher than 1 Gigabits. The main node recognizes automatically which node is connected to the internet provider and which one is local. This worked just fine. Additionally, the other nodes can use Ethernet for backhaul. For Backhaul, each node will prioritize Ethernet, if connected and will simultaneously use available Wi-Fi channels for extra bandwidth. It's all automatic and reconfigures itself on the fly. I have a complicated network with over 70 devices at a given time, some on Wi-Fi and some on Ethernet, with several Ethernet switches in between. Due to an unrelated issue, one Ethernet switch went offline, and the satellite nodes switched automatically to Wi-Fi and even served the local Ethernet clients. They again reconfigured when the issue was addressed. I'm impressed how reliable this has been. I prefer using a Desktop to configure the router, and the web interface is fairly basic, used mostly for monitoring, and not much to configure from it. However I was able to use the iPad app on macOS and worked well enough to set what I needed from the comfort of my keyboard. I also like it doesn't need to reboot when making most changes. It also supports Wi-Fi 7 MLO (Multi-Link) network however this runs on a separate WiFi network label. What this does is that it allows Wi-Fi 7 clients to utilize different bands concurrently. TP-Link also offers additional security filters through optional paid services, which I did not try. Regardless it also supports setting up a separate IoT Wi-Fi, Guest Wi-Fi, basic parental controls and IP camera filters. The main interface shows where every device connects to, on which bands and real-time bandwidth utilization. The deco app can also control other TP-Link home automation devices and it can act as a Matter server. This seems to need more work and doesn’t seem to support Thread but the Overall, if one doesn't need the short-range 6 Ghz band, this is an excellent choice, and the price is much more reasonable than other routers. I'm impressed at how logical the configuration is and overall how stable it's been since installing it.

Excellent Entry Level Wi-Fi 7 Mesh System

The TP-Link BE5000 Dual Band Whole Home Mesh Wi-Fi 7 system comes with 3 Deco BE5000 units, 3 power adapters, an ethernet cable and a quick installation pamphlet. Each BE5000 unit comes with two 2.5 Gbps ethernet ports and a WPS button. I considered this to be an entry level Wi-Fi 7 system because it lacks support for the 6 Ghz band. This wasn’t a problem in my case. Setup Setup was very simple using the Deco app. In my case, as I was upgrading from an older and reliable TP-Link Wi-Fi 6 mesh system (which I loved), the upgrade process was able to minimize any disruptions to my home network (which has over 50 connected devices). The upgrade process transfers all my current network settings (such as IP address reservation for my 4 NAS devices) from my home network to the new BE5000 unit. This saves me a lot of time and hassle. When upgrading to a newer TP-Link mesh system, there is an option in the Deco app to replace the main router with a newer (BE5000) unit. To do this, you attach an ethernet cable between the old main router and the new BE5000 unit. You then power up the BE5000 unit and the app will start searching for it. I had to attempt this a couple of times before the Deco app found the BE5000 unit. After finding the BE5000 unit, the Deco app sets up the new BE5000 unit as the main router and the settings of the previous main router were transferred to the new BE5000 unit. You can then remove the old main router from your network using the Deco app. I then used the option in the Deco app to manually add the other BE5000 units to my network and remove the older units. While I was doing this, there was no disruption to my network (except for the brief moment when I was replacing the main router). One really cool thing about this is that I could have used the older units from my previous mesh system as additional nodes in my new network. The older TP-Link units are compatible with the newer BE5000 units. For my 1400 square ft 3 level townhouse, 3 nodes are enough to cover my whole house with excellent wi-fi. I have a node on each floor of my townhouse. Performance During my 5 days of use, the TP Link BE5000 has been rock solid and super fast. I have not encountered any issues with any of my devices. All my wi-fi devices (whether using the 2.4 Ghz or 5 Ghz bands) seem to be functioning perfectly. The coverage is also excellent as I get full strength signals in all 3 floors of my townhouse. On my Wi-Fi 7 enabled laptop (using the Mediatek MT7925 adapter) I am getting the fastest link speed (2882/2882 Mbps) I have ever seen on the 5 Ghz band. With my previous TP-Link Wi-Fi 6 system, this same laptop reported a link speed of 2402/2402 Mbps. The TP-Link BE5000 Mesh Wi-Fi system can also perform Backhaul Aggregation where it can combine the wireless Wi-Fi and wired Ethernet connections between two nodes to improve speed and throughput. I am currently using MOCA as a wired backhaul for the units in my network. The MOCA units I am using are limited to 1 Gbps transfer rate. With Backhaul Aggregation, the connection speed between each node should now be greatly improved. Using Speedtest, I am getting 924.41 Mbps download and 23.23 Mbps upload speeds on Xfinity. Overall, browsing the web and doing anything online feels very zippy. The TP-Link BE5000 Mesh Wi-Fi system has been rock solid, provides excellent range and great compatibility with all my Wi-Fi devices, and is also very fast. The Deco app has a good user interface, visually displays useful information about your network while also providing access to advanced options and features such as Operation Mode, MAC Cloning, NAT Forwarding, IP Address Reservations, QoS, adding a VPN server, adding a MLO and dedicated IoT Network, etc. In summary, I can easily recommend the TP-Link BE5000 Dual Band Mesh Wi-Fi 7 system to anyone who is looking for a low-cost entry point to upgrading their network to Wi-Fi 7.

This product was easy to install and configure and works great in our home. We live in a one story home with a walkout basement and the coverage is great everywhere. We get faster wifi than the router wifi and it's even around the whole house. The app not only makes the setup easy, but allows monitoring of the wifi. This was my first experience with a mesh wifi and I love it.

I was curious about upgrading my Wi-Fi 6 mesh home network and when the Deco BE5000 Mesh Wi-Fi 7 system was recently introduced by TP-Link, I figured it would be an easy and affordable introduction to the latest in Wi-Fi home networking. I should state that I am basically at the entry level of fully understanding home networking, and I prefer to rely on simple and easy networking devices and software to get turn-key results. Being very familiar with TP-Link as a leader as the owner of several smart wi-fi plugs and wall switches, I was excited to give this new Wi-Fi 7 mesh network system a try. I sense that what you don’t know about networking can and will hurt you, but I found TP-Link takes most of the guesswork out of setting up a simple, secure, and reliable home network. I wasn’t so much concerned about connectivity speeds, as that seems more dependent on the internet service provider you have access to. However, as more and more home devices require networking connectivity to work, a fast and reliable network like the BE5000 Deco does begin to make a difference. Here’s where the advantage of utilizing Wi-Fi 7 network features comes more into play. After setting up the Deco BE5000 Mesh system following mostly default settings, I was up and running quickly. At first setup, it did require a brief firmware update and then the Deco smartphone app walks you through the basic installation. Wanting to know more about what I was actually installing, I did several internet searches lo learn about some of the unfamiliar terms, such as MLO (Multi-Link Operations) and IoT (Internet of Things) networks, just to name a few. TP-link’s website contains lots of useful information to help you to make informed networking choices. I could already see that I needed to go back and make several improvements to my “default” home setup armed with a little better understanding. For example, I created a separate IoT network to handle my smart home devices like the wall switches and plugs I mentioned earlier. I didn’t realize I had so many until you find they no longer work after removing them from the old network! It makes perfect sense to set up multiple networks for better control and safety. Speaking of safety, TP-Link does offer a security plan subscription to add extra layers of security to your networking, and that includes a free 30-day trial. My only Wi-Fi 7 clients in our home are two newer laptops. When I switched over to the newly installed network using the faster MLO option, I got a message on my laptop congratulating me for adding a fast and more secure network. It was also quick and easy to set up a guest network for when family visits, basically the flip of a switch in the app. I have noticed as I go around changing networks on all my devices, the Deco BE5000 provides strong Wi-Fi coverage throughout our home. I still feel I have a lot to learn but feel the Deco BE5000 at least gets my foot in the door of Wi-Fi 7 networking. It is no doubt an entry level system and expect to pay twice as much or more to get all the bells and whistles of Wi-Fi 7. In fact in its legal disclaimer, it states “This Deco may not support all the mandatory features as ratified in IEEE 802.11be specification.” For example, I’m aware that it lacks the 6Ghz band found in more high-end Wi-Fi 7 routers. I suspect that for home use, the TP-Link Deco BE5000 will be more than adequate to enjoy improvements from what Wi-Fi 7 has to offer, one that’s affordable and easy to set up.
