I bought this as a possible solution to internet problems a friend's father was having. He has a computer in the basement, on the bottom floor of a 3 floor home. Years ago I was working on his computer and noticed that the connection was coming in and out with long lapses of lost connectivity sometimes lasting up to a minute. He was on wifi, so I encouraged him to run a wire from the router for a better signal. He obliged and I hadn't spoken with him for many years since. It came time to upgrade the computer, so I set it up for him at my home and brought it over. The computer worked fine at my home, but when I brought it over, it was having the same dropoffs that it had years ago. I noticed that the cable was different as well, so he had changed the Ethernet cable a second time, presumably with a better quality one. The internet would cut out, then try to connect to wifi constantly through his integrated dell wifi card. I did an internet speed test and discovered he was only getting 9.5 Mbps on the download, and about 10 on the uploaded, with a fast computer. It defeated the purpose of the new computer entirely. His subscription service is 100 Mbps, and the computer next to the router is able to get about 85 Mbps on both the download and upload. I decided to go with a high quality PCI-E wireless card with one of those fancy antennas not attached to the card. But first I did some research, and heard about these Powerline adapters and something called MOCA. The MOCA sounded kinda complicated, even for me with possibly getting the wrong equipment and configuration. So I decided to go with the cheapest Powerline adapter kit that I could get locally. Installation was very easy. Just plug one receiver to an outlet (without a surge protector), connect it to an Ethernet port with one of the two supplied cables. I believe they're 7.5 feet. Then plug another receiver nearby and press pair on both. After they're paired, bring the second receiver to it's final destination outlet, and plug the other Ethernet wire into the computer. The basement computer worked instantly, and the first reading was 39.1 Mbps download and 15.2 Mbps upload. No, it's not as fast as the computer upstairs that's hardwired to the router, but it works well enough. This is with a relatively newer home. I believe it was built in the late 80s or 90s. And the conditions are not ideal. My friend has about 15 devices hooked up between the two outlets where the host receiver is located. It would have been nice to have a passthrough outlet, but I wasn't about to spend double the price just for that. This review may be a bit premature as it has only been two days, but so far so good. No dropoffs, and constant internet connection. He uses the computer for basic internet browsing, e-mail, and Microsoft word. If it has any issues with dropoffs in the future, I will update my review. But it should be expected that you would have to unplug and reset them every once in a while. So if you're having internet connectivity issues with either wifi or ethernet, I'd suggest giving this a try. Worst case scenario is you waste about 5-10 minutes and have to return them. But they worked great for me.

I own several of these at different speeds based on location need. Obviously want the fastest one at the router, once paired works quite well. Even if unplugged / power loss, pairs right back up on its own. Saved me tons of re-wiring needs.

I run entire home theater on this. Streaming 4k from internet or from Plex server is no problem. Much better than WIFI range extender and cheaper than a mesh system and easier than running ethernet cable. And, easily expandable to add another room on the opposite side of the house.

Instructions direct you to plug into the same wiring circuit, but the main reason for buying this is because the wireless router on a different floor than my pc; and a different circuit. But internet performance is noticeably improved, and that's worth the price.

I decided to try this instead of another wifi range extender to help my daughter get faster internet speeds on her PC. Her bedroom is the farthest room from the existing router/extender and the wifi signal was nearly nonexistent. My concern was that the path on the house wiring might exceed the capable range of these units. I was very impressed that after 2 minutes of setup, she was getting download speeds in excess of 20mbs. I was so impressed, I bought another pair for my house

Probably not because of the unit but might be because of the electric wires at my house. Cant test it anywhere else to prove this theory. The throughout was horrible, my provider is Spectrum and I have 300Mbps with them. When I use this unit, the speed i was roughly 10Mbps, my 2010 iMac wifi (i know it’s old) still manage to get 250+Mbps. I ended up return the unit.

I had a need to extend my virtual Ethernet in the home to a laptop. Said laptop would occasionally go into airplane mode for no reason at all. As the laptop is being used for work-from-home at the moment, it became a big pain to have to continually reboot. I ordered this kit to give me a virtual Ethernet extension, but had concerns that this unit would not be compatible with the Ethernet-over-power-line system already in place. My concerns were premature, as the unit paired instantly and compatibly with the installed system. No more laptop issues!

My son was always complaining about slow wifi connection when gaming. A friend suggested powerline adapters so I gave it a try. They've been great. He's getting around 35 Mbit speeds consistently which is much better than wifi. Haven't heard any complaints lately, so worth the money for us! Got them price matched for $35!

My modem is on an opposite end of the house and this was the next best thing compare to a direct connection to the modem. It does not increase your speed. You get what you pay for from your internet provider. I think some people in the reviews are confused about product.
