This plug worked as advertised. Positives: -Excellent value for smart remote control from my phone app (android). - Good wifi receiver worked throughout my house including outside outlets. I went ahead and bought two more after initially testing the first one. -Can change dusk-to-dawn settings automatically through out the year so I will replace the old timer controls that I have to change manually. - Can turn on exterior flood light manually at night e.g. if I hear something outside or dogs are barking, etc. Negatives: - Potential fire hazard- I would not recommend using at the full rating the company claims (15Amps). The penetration of the metal contacts into the female portion of the plug doesn't seem adequate. I plan to use mine for low-current LED lighting but I would be nervous about running the full 15 amps without thoroughly testing for overheating especially from a remote location. - TP-Link has padded/flooded their reviews with over 18,000 and with over 1000 questions/answers on Amazon, I was happy to be able to see real reviews and make my purchase decision at BestBuy.

I've been using a few of these smart plugs for almost 2 months. They were easy to setup via the Kasa App and integrate easily with Alexa. I don't think I would purchase these again, however, or any wifi plug for that matter. Every couple of days, these plugs loose their connection to my router and stop working. I have to either recycle my router or unplug/re-plug them to get them to reconnect. I have updated firmware and tried other "fixes" to no avail. Having to reset the connection every few days undermines a major part of the purpose of these units. So far, I've gotten around the issue by setting my router to automatically recycle every night. If I purchase any more smart plugs, I would probably try a Z-wave/ZigBee product instead of a wifi product.

Got it as part of promotion with echo dot for $5 and for sure for that price I cannot complain. But if I have to pay anything more than $10 then I would look otherwise. Setup was easy and worked well till a power outage and after that it was all downhill. I can start and stop remotely but cannot put a schedule to it, reason: app (iOS App) says cannot update the plug. Seriously!!!! the same app can turn on and off the plug but cannot push the schedule. Now that's something broken right there if it is able to communicate with the plug for basic functionality, but for pushing a schedule.

I got this for $5 on black Friday when I purchased the Echo dot. For this price the device is definitely worth it, but for $30+ I would pass on a second one because the device seems to disconnect quite often. I've had it for about a week and a half now and within that time the TP Link has been unresponsive 2 different times and it has caused me to have to unplug the device and plug it back in to get it to work properly. If you can get it for cheap it's good, otherwise I think I would say to go with another smart plug option.

Tp-link smart plugs are the onIy brand I own so I cannot say whether they are more or less reliable than others. All of mine tend to fall off wifi occasionally and the only way to reconnect is to physically unplug and plug back in. Very annoying and not very smart. The overall design is good and they allow both top and bottom outlets to be used. The Kasa app that controls them is excellent. These work with both Echo and Good Home Assistant.

They Work with Alexa but not with Apple?

These were a $5 add-on during a Black Friday special. They work very well with Alexa but apparently, they do not work with Apple's Home Kit. I have a few iHome smart plugs so I am used to these things and love their functionality. I was afraid that over the years I would be adding different manufactures but Amazon seems to work well by bringing all of them under their umbrella. Again, if you are using Alexa, they are great. If you want to use your iPhone with them too, you may check other devices.

I actually have 4 of these, bought them on sale for $10 if you buy an echo deal. I had issue with one of them, had a hard time pairing. Finally got all 4 to pair, but two of them now say "local only" on the Kasa app which means I can't control them from outside my network, only internal (when connected to wifi at home). I unplugged one of them and it still says local only - still have to troubleshoot more, not sure why it's doing it.

Bought it to be able to turn on and off the fairy lights in my room, since they do not have a remote. It makes the plug stick out pretty far out, but that is partly from the plug from the lights. When turning on and off the plug, there is a loud click sound. I don't mind it as much, but others might. Overall, works for what I bought it for. Can control it with my Google Home Mini as well.

The smart plug device installed on the WiFi with no problem. Downloaded the ap and I could control the plug. Alexa Echo Dot could not discover the plug at first. After days and several attempts she just all if a sudden discovered the plug and has worked properly since. Therefore 3 stars. If it would have worked the first attempt to set it up on the Echo Dot this would be a 5 star rating. I almost returned the plug for it not working.

I was hoping that this was going to be able to actually turn on one of my devices, but what it really does is just give or take the power from what is plugged up. So it can only turn on something that is already set to an on position. It can't turn on your tv, game console or something you have to press to turn on after it's plugged in. Works good for lamps or fans or something but it just doesn't do what I thought it should do.

I have two of these Wi-Fi outlets in my home. The one located in the living room works very well, but the one located in the upper bedroom does not. I installed a Wi-Fi extender but it still doesn’t work well. I’ve had better luck with using the lightbulbs and Alexa versus this outlet. If you’re installing some distance from your router, this might not be the best solution.

Ok, so, I'm one of those people that are into the "smart home" thing. That's pretty fun to be able to add this kind of plug and order things fr to be turned on and off from a connected device, with your voice for example. Now, those ones, I'm not sure if this is me not setting up my network properly, but they tend to disconnect from time to time, and it's not always as easy as it should be to reconnect everything together.

Overall these do the job, I like the app, and I tied them up to Amazon's Alexa no problem. They have lost connection though several times now which is frustrating,. I wish two things, that I got one that did need a hub, I like everything controlled by my Wink Hub, and second I wish I could dim the lamps this have using the plugs. Probably should have opted for smart wall switches instead.

Pretty get smart plug. Occasionally it seems to not be recognized by my Alexa turn off the lights. It’ll say smart plug not responding and you’ll have to unplug it occasionally. When you unplug it it resets it. I got it for a fair price so overall I’m pretty happy but I wish I didn’t have to reset it from time to time

      Hi Angie,

Thank you for your review. We always recommend ensuring your router's WiFi signal is adequately strong in the smart device's location. Within the Kasa Smart app there's a feature that allows you to measure WiFi signal strength of your smart devices. When the app is connected, please check the signal strength in the Device Settings menu.

If the signal is within the ideal range and you're still experiencing these symptoms, please ensure your Kasa Smart app is up to date, then update your smart device's firmware using the steps in our FAQ: http://www.tp-link.com/us/faq-1256.html

If you'd like assistance with any of these steps, please send an e-mail with your contact information and a link to this review to Kasa.Support@TP-Link.com and we'll gladly have a Support Agent follow up with you directly.

Just to be clear, the reason to purchase a device like this is to control it remotely via a Smart Home Appliance. I can vouch for Alexa working about 90% of the time and the other 10% losing connection or multiple tries. I bought other wi-fi related receptacles and haven't had the same issues; being the same distance away from the wifi gateway.

Overall concept tis good but this product had a difficult time connecting to my network. It saved all the settings from prevous attempts. The firmware i updated and still takes around 5attempts with the correct information to get connected. My Amazon Echo can't find it on the network. However I don't have a smart home router and that could be an issue with my business grade router.

You would think it would be quick and simple to connect but it was very frustrating to set up. It took me almost an hour!! The "help" feature on the app didn't provide much help. Multiple attempts using the automatic and manual setup. Don't know how it finally worked but it did. Beyond that frustration the product works like a charm. Love it.

The smart plug is definitely a decent smart plug. I got it for a fair price at Best Buy and shipping went faster then expected. I have other smart plugs that disconnect a lot but this one stays connected most of the time. Occasionally you do have to reset it. Overall feel is above average in performance. My experience with Best Buy was pretty good.

Probably a decent product, but bought it to control a lamp light that I already have had two different brands of smart bulbs fail on for being controlled by Amazon Echo. Bought this at suggestion of BB staff for my mother in assisted living. They do not have secured network, so device not workable for me.

I tried to hook or sync this up with my echo dot but it won't work. I tried to place it in a electric plug behind a sofa or bed but does not respond even if the router/wifi is in the same room. I have not tried it yet but I'll plug it in to an obstructed electric plug to find out.
